Could Alex Roberts lose everything again?

Four years after the death of his daughter and the collapse of his marriage, Alex has finally rebuilt his life. With Gia, he has found something rare: stability, passion, and a future he never thought he’d have again. But the past isn’t finished with him.
When his ex-wife Valarie leaves a chilling note in the condo he shares with Gia, Alex knows she’s back. And she isn’t just looking for closure, she’s unpredictable. As the threat grows, so does the guilt Alex thought he had buried. He still feels responsible for Valarie and everything that went wrong. Gia sees it too. She feels him slipping, piece by piece, into the wreckage of a life he barely survived.

Now Alex must face the woman he couldn’t save or risk losing the one who saved him.

My Review:

Alex believed he had moved on from his past until he discovered a note on his bed from his former wife, Valarie. Naturally, she denies having left the note, but Alex isn’t convinced. After he confronts Valarie, he deceives Gia, his girlfriend, about the situation and keeps silent about visiting Valarie regarding the note.

Alex's intention is to shield Gia from the troubling circumstances by withholding information, but he only complicates things further. The antagonists are indifferent to her knowledge; they will exploit her against him if they decide to do so.

The plot thickens as more details emerge concerning Gia’s mother. Is she aware of what’s happening? Is she involved, or is she merely an innocent observer?

Alex pulled me into his narrative as deeply as Gia’s tale did in After Gia, the third installment of the After Dark series. Each book in the After Dark series continues to improve with each read. The intrigue and tension kept me captivated as I awaited the unfolding of the truth.

I eagerly anticipate diving into the next book, After Valarie, to discover what lies ahead for Valarie.

Check out all the books in the After Dusk series I’ve read.

It’s a battle for the wolves we have to win.

Interview with Ophelia Black

What is your favorite part of the book?

I loved getting to use the Norse lore. Weaving it in after deep diving into the mythos was so satisfying.

Does your book have a lesson? Moral?

I think it teaches us to treat everyone well, because we never know who might be the one saving our bacon one day.

Are your characters based off real people or did they all come entirely from your imagination?

In this instance, they were all from my imagination.

Of all the characters you have created, which is your favorite and why?

I really loved Ylva. Her creativity, determination, and sense of justice , even when it cost her were a fun challenge.

What character in your book are you least likely to get along with?

Oh boy, Bo. There were so many times I wanted to choke that man. *laughs.

What would the main character in your book have to say about you?

She likes to torture us by putting us in the worst possible situations, but we get back at her by refusing to cooperate with the outline.

Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book?

I’m trying to build an interconnected universe. Each trilogy will have their own quirks, but we’ll see how they fit together as a whole.

Book Blitz + #Giveaway: Winter in the High Sierra by Robert Brighton @XpressoTours

Winter in the High Sierra
Robert Brighton
Publication date: October 1st 2025
Genres: Adult, Historical, Romance

November 1899. New York society belle Louisa MacGregor, heartsick after a broken engagement, flees her old life aboard the last westbound train of the season, whose track cuts through the very heart of the steep and forbidding Sierra Nevada Mountains.

When an early blizzard traps her train in a remote mountain pass, Louisa is fast asleep in her luxurious palace car. The big train proves too heavy to make it over the snow-covered summit, and the engineer makes a fateful decision: to lighten the load, he crowds all his passengers into the first two cars and leave the rest of his train behind to the mercy of the elements.

Asleep, Louisa does not hear the conductor’s urgent cries, and she and her palace car are left behind. When she awakens, she finds herself cold, alone, and deserted in the most rugged wilderness on the continent.

She is near despair when a solitary mountain man—whom she comes to know only as ‘Bandit’—locates her abandoned train. The handsome, mysterious Bandit—who seems to carry with him a deep sadness of his own—leads Louisa over the mountaintops and down to his tidy cabin, nestled in a secluded valley surrounded by the towering peaks of the High Sierra.

With no prospect of rescue until spring, Lou and Bandit must find a way to survive the deadliest winter in fifty years. Trapped in a wild mountain paradise that is by turns unspeakably beautiful and utterly terrifying, these two lost people must learn to trust each other—and, perhaps, find the true meaning of life, love, and redemption.

Rich with historical detail, wilderness adventure, and heartfelt romance, Winter in the High Sierra is a sweeping, inspirational, clean love story perfect for readers who enjoy:

Heartfelt clean romances
Nature and healing journeys
Inspirational love stories with grace
Snowbound survival stories
Western mountain wilderness stories

EXCERPT:

★★★★★ A beautifully written romance where love, trust, and survival intertwine. Absolute must-read!

What if your second chance came in the form of a snowstorm and a stranger who help you to see your worth before you did?

That’s the heart of Winter in the High Sierra, a powerful, clean historical romance set in the remote Sierra Nevada in 1899.

Louisa MacGregor is used to wealth, comfort, and being told what’s proper, until a broken engagement sends her fleeing west, heart in pieces. Boarding the last train out of New York, she hopes to disappear into the wilderness and leave her pain behind.

But when an unexpected storm traps the train in a mountain pass, Louisa’s car is quietly abandoned. She wakes to an empty train, deep snow, and no hope of rescue.

Then she meets Bandit, a quiet, deeply kind mountain man who offers her shelter in his isolated cabin. With no way out until spring, the two must face the elements, and their own guarded emotions.

Unlike the gruff, brooding heroes found in many survival stories, Bandit is gentle and introspective. He listens more than he speaks, and his kindness runs deep. As Lou finds her footing in this strange, wild world, she begins to rediscover her strength — and see herself through Bandit’s eyes.

Set against breathtaking landscapes and rich historical detail, Winter in the High Sierra blends survival, heartache, faith, and emotional redemption into a story that will leave you deeply moved and enjoying every word. Funny, moving, and a real page-turner. You won’t want to put it down, trust me.

you’ll love this clean, character-driven romance with a slow burn and a strong sense of place.

Don’t miss this unforgettable journey. Grab your copy of Winter in the High Sierra today and let it carry you away to a cozy escape.

He has traveled in more than 50 countries around the world, personally throwing himself into every situation his characters will face - from underground ruins to opium dens - and (so far) living to tell about it.

Nonfiction

Date Published: June 24, 2025

Publisher: BlackBox

The Multiverse comprises different realms of reality as apparent in its map.

The first realm is made up of different kinds of substances with specific powers. These range from the world of pure matter (quantum fields) to various embodied forms of life, consciousness and rational thought (microbial, botanical, mammalian, et al.) to the world of pure spirit (angelic).

The second realm encompasses the agents who "operate" the substances. These range from unicellular microbes to plants to animals to human beings to angels.

Then there is the realm of purpose, beauty, the virtues, right and wrong, good and evil.

Finally, we have the worlds that will never end: Plenitude on the one side, Heaven; and Void on the other, Hell.

Our journey through the Multiverse begins with the Mission Control Center.

Here we find the Source of all that exists, we discover that Its Life has no beginning or end and, finally, that It is Tri-personal, Three Centers in One infinite Mind and Will.

Next, we explore the Metaverse of Mind, the cosmos in which we live with its five domains of mind.

Underlying the Metaverse is the MindField, infinite-eternal Mind.

We then move to the world of Homo sapiens, the highest form of mind in the physical world.

From there we go to the realm of pure minds, the world of good and evil spirits/angels.

Next up is the religious history of humanity that culminates in the Incarnation of Infinity and the descent of the divine Spirit.

The Incarnation bestowed on Homo sapiens the God Gene, the Life of God.

Those who live with the divine Life offered to them enter into eternal ecstasy; those who reject it suffer the endless agony of separation.

Finally, you will meet your Secret Lover.

So far my job month, which should’ve been lowkey and easy, has gone thusly:

1. A bride wants to divorce her dead husband. (You unfortunately read that right.)

2. Zhen gets called into work anyway because they lost Annabelle at the airport. Yes. That Annabelle. (#nothankyou)

3. Jasha is magical. With a familiar. (Anyone have this on their bingo card? I didn’t.)

Is it too late to revoke my supernatural club membership?
