Excerpt - Crush:

She looked amazing in her green dress, her soft, red hair falling in waves down to brush her bare-skinned shoulders. She was showing a fair amount of leg-something I hadn't really seen her do before-and I didn't mind one bit. She reminded me of some sort of green apple just ripe for the picking. I grunted internally, realizing I was comparing her to fruit again. What was up with that? You know exactly what's up with that, my mind countered, but I couldn't force myself to look away. I knew she wasn't for me, though somehow, it didn't seem to matter much at the moment.

"Enjoying the eye candy again, I see," Russ said, joining me after getting his snack.

"Who? Clayton Bradley? I don't think so."

Russ snorted. "Yeah, we're both aware that's not who you were looking at. Dude, if you like her that much just go get her. You know you want her."

I shook my head and turned in the direction of the theaters. "Can't."

"Why not?" Russ pressured, trying to understand. "You got a girlfriend back home? Or are you saying you play for the other team?"

I snorted. "I just can't, okay? No girlfriend for me, period."

"So you're going to lust after her from afar?" He elbowed me as he took a bite of his giant popcorn.

"Something like that."

We found ourselves a seat at the back of the theater. I liked sitting here so I could watch what everyone around me was doing while I was waiting for the movie to start.

"This is just a crying shame," Russ said.

"What is?"

"Sitting on the back row and not having any honeys to make out with in the dark. I need a date soon."

"Good luck with that," I replied. "Maybe you should try actually talking to a girl. That might help."

"Oh, look who's Mr. Advice all of a sudden-he who stares and drools from afar."

"At least I have an actual babe to drool over instead of just wishful thinking."

"Ah ha! You just admitted it. You do like her!" His face was lit up like he'd just discovered electricity or something.

And dang it, he was right. "Eat your popcorn like a good boy and leave me alone." I grinned.

He laughed. "There's not a good bone in this body."

"That sucks for you," I countered with a sly smile. "Good bones are all I have lately."

Russ choked, spewing popcorn out into the aisle.

"That's just sick, man," I chuckled with a shake of my head, observing the chewed popcorn on the back of the chair in front of him.

"It's your fault. Don't blame me." He took a napkin, wiping his mouth and then the chair.

"You're never gonna get a girl like this. Maybe I should show you how it's done."

"Well, master, here's your chance." Russ gestured into the theater, and I saw Cami and Clay enter together.

I stiffened immediately as I watched them. They chose some seats a few aisles down from where we were. Clay put his drink in the cup holder and leaned in close to her. Cami clearly shifted away from him.

This caused an alarm to go off in my head. She was obviously uncomfortable with his close proximity. I wondered if he'd tried to hit on her, and she didn't like it. It was as if they weren't the same people I'd watched in class together. Clay had changed his appearance, and it seemed to have the opposite effect of what he was going for-changing the dynamic between them completely.

He bent closer and whispered something in her ear and she leaned even farther. There was definitely something bad going on between them.

I reached over, grabbed Russ's popcorn, and got up.

"Hey, where you going?" he asked, looking confused.

I ignored him and walked down to the row Cami was on. I had to find something out.

Excerpt - Smitten:

"I hope you don't mind spending a little alone time with me."

Cami smiled. "Are you kidding? This was the best idea ever! Besides, I've been starved for time with you." She flopped back onto the park grass-our impromptu picnic from Francesca's spread in between us. I'd been unable to resist the opportunity to recreate our first date. "I can't believe you got a whole strawberry pie too!"

I chuckled and leaned against the tree providing us a nice shady spot. "I know it's your favorite."

"But a whole one? There's no way we'll be able to eat it all."

I loved seeing the smile across her face. She hadn't been this relaxed in weeks. "Then give what's left to your parents, or better yet, take it home with you as a treat for later."

She sighed heavily, her smile slipping. "Do we have to go back? I say we forget about everything and stay here forever. I've missed all this." She waved her arm in a broad arc.

"What? This park?" I teased, trying to get her smile to return.

She rolled to her side so she was facing me, propping her head with her hand. "No. Everything. Home, this town, us-how we were in this town-I miss all that."

"Shall I call Mr. Adams?" I joked. "We could see if he'll give us the keys to the darkroom, and we can go make out in it." I winked at her.

She giggled. "That was heaven! I had no idea what I was getting myself into back then, did I?"

"Do you regret it?" I asked before taking a sip of my shake.

She sat up and crawled over, climbing into my lap. She placed her palms on the sides of my face and stared deep into my eyes. "Not for even one second. I love you."

I'd never get tired of hearing those words from her. I set my shake in the grass and slid my hands around her hips. "Say it again." I stared at her beautiful mouth, thinking about all the things I liked about her lips.

"I love you," she said again, obliging me.

"I love you too. Now kiss me."

She grinned. "You're bossy today, aren't you?"

"Are you going to kiss me or not?" I arched an eyebrow, staring at her seriously.

She bit her bottom lip and appeared to ponder. "On our first date here I spent the whole time wishing you'd kiss me with those amazing lips of yours. You fought it, though, and wouldn't give in. In honor of that day, I think I'll decline your order and make you suffer like I had to."

"Wrong answer," I replied, moving quickly so she was pinned on the ground underneath me. I lifted her hands above her head and held her wrists with one of mine. "If I remember correctly, you wouldn't admit you liked me, and I had to do some tickling."

"Don't you dare tickle me again, Hunter!" She squirmed beneath me causing my body to react instantly.

"If you'll remember, you didn't win that battle either."

"I did win the battle-just not on that day-but I'll win today." I grinned as I tickled her side.

She jerked and squealed. "Oh, I'm gonna kill you!"

"Kiss. You're gonna kiss me. Get your words right." I laughed as she tried to twist away. "Give it up, Goody."

"Fine! You win!" she gasped. "I'll do it!"

I stopped immediately, letting her catch her breath for a moment. "See? That wasn't so difficult, was it?" I grinned triumphantly.

"You're a . . . a . . . pig!" she countered.

I laughed. "I've been called way worse. Besides, pigs are thick skinned, so you're gonna have to try harder."

She groaned and rolled her eyes. "Just shut up and kiss me already."

"Gladly." I kept her hands pinned above her as I lowered my mouth to hers. Sparks exploded the moment our lips touched. I'd intended the contact to be soft and subtle, but it quickly built into something hot and fiery. It amazed me how every time felt like the first time. I'd never known chemistry like this with any other girl, and I wasn't sure what it was, but Cami seemed capable of turning my insides out. She made intensely lustful thoughts tumble rapidly through my head every time she was near. All I could ever think of was claiming her, keeping her, making her mine in every way possible.

My lips traveled to her neck, and she moaned my name as I gently sucked at her skin. The scent of her hair was like an intoxicating drug-everything about her smelled amazing. I wanted to lick her-taste her everywhere. She turned her head to the side and arched her back. I slid my arm underneath her, crushing her tightly to me.

"I've missed holding you like this," I whispered in her ear. "I need to be able to touch you. This separation has been killing me." I nibbled at her skin again.

She sighed. "I know. I've missed you too."

The sound of children running and laughing close-by broke into my thoughts, and I quickly released her, rolling to my side, sad that it seemed like I always had to pull away from her. I propped my head and stared at her, running my fingers through her gorgeous red hair. "You're so beautiful." My gaze locked with hers. "I wish I could carry you off someplace the two of us could be alone together."

She linked her fingers with mine, and I lifted them to my lips, kissing them each tenderly. She sighed and closed her eyes. "Are you sure we can't run away together right now?"

"It's very tempting," I agreed. It would be so easy to pick up and leave everything behind.

She sighed again. "I can see the wheels turning in your head. Forget I even brought it up, Hunter. You're too dang trustworthy, and we both know it. There's no way you'd abandon this case before it's through. Your word is as good as gold."

I chuckled. "Why do you make it sound like that's a bad thing?"

She smiled. "I don't mean too. I'm just tired of being frustrated."

I laughed harder. "I give you my word-I promise to take care of any and all frustrations you may have."

She rolled her eyes and gave me a pointed look. "Your selflessness overwhelms me."

I lifted a shoulder casually, laughter still escaping me. "What can I say? I aim to please."

EXCERPT

My feet start to move quickly as I travel down through old buildings toward the bar. In a few short minutes, I make my way to the parking lot where I need to stop to catch my breath. The heat is sucking all the air from my lungs along with my guilt for what I've done. When I pull open the door I can hear Darcie screaming at Drake at the same time that Reggie is restraining his arms, pinning them behind his back. His eyes meet mine and they break all over again. I have to save him. I can't bring him down with all the ugliness growing inside of me.
I slowly walk through the bar and keep my eyes solely on his. Darcie is turning her anger to me, but I shut it down because only Drake matters in this moment. No one else. I reach into my pocket and pull the small white pill from its depths. Placing it in the palm of my hand, I show him exactly what it is and his bloodshot, drunken eyes meet mine, slowly. Reggie releases his hold on Drake, allowing him to lower his arms to his sides.
"What's that?"he asks with a slurred tongue as he shrugs his shoulders, loosening them from the tension inflicted by Reggie.
"I didn't do it. I was waiting for something good to stop me, and then…there you were. You are more important to me than my own life and I can't hurt you by doing this," I whisper as I pick up the pill and place it in his sweaty hand.
His eyes focus slowly on the pill. He turns it over with his fingers in his hand, the confusion apparent as he studies the small white tablet. He can't even look at me and I don't blame him. I've ruined any trust he's had in me and I deserve it. I've only been hiding from reality for a long time. Drake tips his hand to the side, allowing the pill to drop to the floor. As it hits the ground, Drake lifts his booted foot then slams it onto the tile. He twists his heel, grinding the pill into a fine white powder.
He slowly lifts his head and looks over to Reggie. "So now you know," he says then he pushes past me, brushing his arm against mine as he walks out on all of us. ~Presley Quinn, Tragic Love

Prologue

They were two beautiful people. Both strong and healthy, exactly what she was looking for.

The male was at least six foot, slender, but his body was firm. His light brown hair was slicked back, making his jaw-line and chiseled cheekbones more defined. His eyes were firmly fixed on his partner as they attempted the triple spin.

The female-such a petite thing with snow-white skin and a dazzling set of white teeth. Her blue eyes shone as she gazed up at him from a slanted dip. Her golden hair was tied up with stray curls hanging around her face.

Such a beautiful couple. They will do perfectly. She waited for the show to end.

*****

Gabriella stood in front of the dressing room door. The small copper star resting against the worn wood had lost its gleam; the scratched metal had seen better days. She moved her attention to the two sheets of paper pinned below it, one reading: Robert Burton; the other: Nina Hewson. The dancing couple from Arizona. A couple whose lives were about to change.

She knocked sharply upon the door, which opened immediately, bringing her eye to eye with the polite, green-blue gaze of Robert.

"May I help you?"

"You may indeed." She walked past him into the small room.

The dressing room, like the rest of the broken-down theater, wasn't anything special. The general necessities were there; a mirror, vanity table, railing for costumes, and two chairs that looked like they had been stolen from a high school classroom. And from what she could guess, the hideous, moth-eaten red fabric hanging from the wall toward the end of the small space was the door to the restroom. The faded floral wallpaper peeled in many places, and the room stank of sweat and cheap perfume. Her nose wriggled almost uncontrollably as the rancid smell swamped her. At the sound of the door shutting, she turned and focused her attention on Nina, who was standing and pulling her faded, pink silk robe shut.

She drank their beauty in almost hungrily, reminding herself why she was in the hellhole of a theatre in the first place. Robert moved and stood beside Nina, who had folded her arms across her chest.

Happy with her choice, Gabriella dusted one of the chairs and sat, making herself as comfortable as possible. This was the last place in the world she would ever choose to be, but for her plan to work, she would need working class people. Individuals hungry enough for fame and fortune that they would sell their souls to the devil himself just for a taste. Who could be more famished than a struggling performer; or in this case, a couple of performers?

So she'd had to drag herself downtown, forced to sit for two hours in the dump that somebody had a nerve to call a theater. No one in their right mind who cared about their career or their bodies would even consider what she was about to propose, but the information she had found on these two loved-up dreamers was enough to assure her that her money would be welcomed, even if it took quite a bit of persuading. And she was, after all, very good at persuading.

She placed her red purse on her knee and folded her hands. "May I just begin by saying that you are both simply marvelous dancers?" Her fake and flattering smile slid into place, and satisfaction stirred inside her as the compliment sank in.

Nina blushed as Robert nodded.

"Why, thank you." His broad smile fluttered across his lips. "What can we do for you, miss?"

"I was wondering if you would like to make some extra money."

They glanced at each other.

"I was thinking along the lines of ten thousand. How does that suit you?" Excitement sparked in their eyes. She could see the slight twitches running through their bodies at the offer, and she imagined they either wanted to embrace each other in sheer delight or fall at her feet and kiss her Prada shoes.

Nina beamed. "We would be very interested."

"Yes," Robert agreed, although hesitation quivered in his words. "But firstly, who are you?"

"My name is Gabriella D'Punz. I am-"

"Gabriella D'Punz, the founder of Ivory Tower Modeling Agency?" Nina dropped her arms to her side and took a step forward.

Gabriella cleared her throat and purged the surge of irritation that pulsed through her at the girl's interruption. "That is right, my dear."

"We accept."

She fought the slight urge to smile at Nina's conclusion. "You do not even know what I am proposing."

Naturally, the girl would presume they were being offered a contract for modeling; why else would a modeling agent come to see them?

"But surely there is only one reason you would want to see us-"

"I'm afraid you have mistaken me, my dear." Nina's brow creased under her words. "Or should I say you jumped to conclusions. I am Gabriella D'Punz, founder and agent of Ivory Tower, but I have not come here to offer either of you a modeling contract."

"But-"

"Although you are both beautiful-I openly admit it-and you are at a reasonable modeling quality, well, you are such wonderful dancers. That is where your hearts are, and I wouldn't dare drag you away from that passion."

"Then what do you want?" Nina asked, slumping down in the chair facing Gabriella.

"I want a child." She paused as their eyebrows dipped in uncertainty to where this conversation was heading. "You see, my husband is growing old, and I am unable to have children…."

"I…I'm sorry to hear that, but what has this got to do with us?" Robert asked.

"Well, I was wondering if you could help me."

Nina lifted her shoulders, her eyes widened a fraction. "How exactly?"

Gabriella's focus shifted to Robert; a small smile curled her lips as realization blossomed over his face.

"Haven't you heard of adoption?"

"Yes. But I want a surrogate mother and in all honesty, I have had my eyes on you,"-she rested her gaze on Nina-"my dear, for quite some time."

Nina shifted in her seat. "What do you mean?"

"I want you to be my surrogate."

"What? No." She shook her head. "No, I won't do that."

Robert stepped forward. "Why her? What do you mean; you've had your eyes on her?"

"I saw a show of yours a year ago. I became interested in you. You're both beautiful and in good health. From what I have learned of your education, you are both decently smart. All the qualities I need in a child. I have considered adoption for years, but I never found a child I liked."

Nina's eyes grew bigger. "What, you…you've been spying on us?"

"No, not spying. I just have an interest. I also have an interest in your career. You're not making very much money. You have no home. You're living out of Motels, travelling up and down the country-"

"How dare you!" Robert thundered. "How dare you come in here and…and poke your nose in to our business, to ask-"

"There's no need to get hysterical."

"No need? I...I...Get out! I want you out!"

Gabriella sighed. "I see you are going to make this difficult. So, let's just get down to it, shall we? How much money do you want?"

"What? This isn't about money," Robert snapped.

"Nonsense, everything is about money." She reached into her purse and pulled out her silver cigarette pouch. "Everyone has a price. So name it."

"No. This isn't about money. This is about a complete stranger waltzing into our dressing room demanding a baby from us!"

"I have not demanded anything from you. Please keep calm." She placed a cigarette in her mouth and put the pouch back in her purse.

"I will not! You have no right! No right to ask this! No right to go digging around in our private business!"

"I was not digging, and more to the point, I am offering you fifteen thousand dollars to have a child for me; for a woman who is unable to have children." Gabriella pulled her lighter from her purse and lit the end of her cigarette.

"And that's our problem?"

"I do not see what the problem is."

"You wouldn't, would you? You strut in here with your expensive clothes thinking you can buy people. Thinking you can buy a baby?" Robert's face grew redder with each word.

"Why did you choose us?" Nina's voice was soft, tentative.

Removing the cigarette from between her lips, she blew out a cloud of smoke. "Because with your looks,-" Gabriella's lips twisted into a smile "-you would give birth to a supermodel."

"You're disgusting," Robert replied through clenched teeth. "Get out!"

"You're making a big deal out of nothing. I get a child, and you get money." She slipped the lighter back into her purse. "Money that you are both in need of."

"Get out." Nina stood up. Her hands balled into the material of her robe. "Please, get out."

"Are you sure you want to turn this offer down?" She kept her attention on Nina as she stood. "Twenty thousand can really come in useful."

Robert walked to the door and opened it. "Your money isn't welcome here."

She laughed, and glanced in his direction. "My money is welcome everywhere."

"Get out."

"Why are you so insulted?" She tucked her purse under her arm. "I am offering you twenty thousand dollars to have sex and get pregnant. Once you are pregnant, you will stay in my home as guests. My doctor will see you, take care of you, and then when it is time, he will deliver the baby. As soon as you are well, you may leave. You may leave twenty thousand dollars richer than you are at this very moment. You can get on with your lives, fulfill your dreams. Tell me what is so disagreeable?"

"You want me to get pregnant and sell my baby to you for twenty thousand dollars?" Lines creased Nina's forehead.

"Yes."

"No! It's wrong."

Gabriella shrugged. "Who said it is wrong?"

Nina shook her head. "I won't do that."

"Not even for twenty-five thousand dollars?" Gabriella quirked her right eyebrow. "How much do you want?"

"Get out!" Robert demanded once more.

"Fine." She reached into her coat pocket and pulled out a small ivory card, which she placed on the vanity table beside Nina. "Call me when you realize this is the best offer you will receive in your lifetime." She walked past Robert and out the door, turning right toward the fire exit.

Gabriella heard the door slam shut as she took another drag of her cigarette. Then the shouting began. She pushed the fire exit open as her smile spread to her ears.

My Review:

I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Razel Dazzle is about this girl whose mother named her Razel. Razel's mother is also her agent. Razel is a supermodel. She is her agent before she is her mother. Razel's mother tells her when she can eat, when she can sleep or whatever. Razel's mother is a very bossy woman who thinks everyone should always do what she wants them to do.

She will not even let Razel go out on dates. Well she probably would as long as she approved of the guy. So when Razel has a photo shoot and meets the photographer Matthew Prince and has the hots for him. Which Matthew also has the hots for Razel too. Matthew never thought that he would ever feel what he feels for Razel ever again. He thought that every woman would put him through the same thing that his last girlfriend put him through.

Razel Dazzle has some really hot romantic situations involving Razel and Matthew. Yeah I know I don't usually read books that has hot, steamy romantic situations in it but on occasion I will. After reading the summary on this one there was no way I could turn it down. I am really glad that I decide to read this one. It may be a short story but it reads like a novel. What I mean is that I found out a lot about who Razle, her mother and Matthew were and what kind of person they are.
