Blurb:

A star collapses mid-performance, and Paris’s most dazzling cabaret turns deadly.

Food critic and amateur sleuth Darcy Finnegan arrives in Paris to savor haute cuisine—not stumble into murder at the legendary Moulin Rouge.

But when the star performer drops dead center stage, Darcy, her best friend Lizzie, and clue-sniffing Schnoodle Mozart are swept into a glittering world of secrets, sabotage, and backstage betrayal.

As whispers swirl beneath the velvet curtains, Darcy uncovers a cast of suspicious characters: a jealous understudy, a jaded choreographer, and a powerful patron with more than money to hide.

Under the shadow of the Eiffel Tower and a ticking magazine deadline, Darcy races to untangle a web of lies.

Because in a cabaret where envy runs deep and egos burn bright, the killer isn't finished—and the next act could be murder.

Murder at Moulin Rouge is a captivating whodunit filled with glamour, intrigue, and danger —a truly unputdownable page-turner that will keep you hooked until the very last page.

About the Author

Michele Packard writes like she talks—with just enough sarcasm to make you smirk and squirm at the same time. An award-winning, multi-genre author, Packard is best known for her snarky, high-stakes thrillers that blend conspiracy, chaos, and current events. But she’s not afraid to slow down the pace and get personal, especially when sharing stories that open conversations around mental health, addiction, and grief.

Her background? Military kid turned cable TV exec turned full-time mom—and now, full-throttle storyteller. Her family dubbed her "AESOP" for her tendency to exaggerate (okay, lie creatively), and she's proudly living up to the name. Whether she's writing fiction that reads like Bourne meets The Americans, or raw nonfiction that hits where it hurts, Packard keeps readers hooked with her wit, grit, and brutal honesty.

Her books have been recognized by the American Book Festival, BestThrillers.com, Pencraft Awards, and Writer’s Digest, among others. But her favorite accolades come from readers who say, “I stayed up all night reading,” or, “You put into words what I’ve felt for years.”

My Review:

The Pretty Ones captivated me right from the opening page. Once I began to read, I found it impossible to put down. The tension kept me on the edge of my seat, curious about Charlie and the memories she couldn't grasp.

The Pretty Ones concealed numerous secrets, revealing them gradually. Even the protagonist, Charlie, seemed unaware of many of those hidden truths. It wasn't just Charlie who was keeping things under wraps; it appeared that everyone around her was, too.

Charlie encountered Quinn during a bus journey one day, and they quickly became close friends. Quinn had a dominating personality, always insisting that things should go her way, including Charlie's fashion choices. Whatever Charlie wore was never satisfactory for Quinn. Charlie went along with her demands, fearing that refusing her might cost her friendship.

After the incident from long ago that she can't recall, Charlie craved companionship. She was willing to tolerate a lot just to avoid spending every moment alone.

Quinn decided to move in with Charlie after her former roommate failed to meet her standards. Quinn constantly imposed her preferences on Charlie, taking advantage of her kindness. She never informed Charlie about the plans she made for both of them.

One night, Charlie awoke in the middle of the night to find Quinn absent. She attempted to call her, but there was no response. She kept trying, but Quinn remained silent. Where could Quinn be? What was she up to? Was she intentionally ignoring Charlie? Or was something wrong? What if she were in trouble?

The Pretty Ones is an incredibly engaging novel that kept me engrossed with each turn of the page as I tried to unravel all the twists and turns. The suspense ensured there was never a dull moment, and I couldn't have stopped reading even if I wanted to. I was drawn back in every time life threatened to pull me away.

I wholeheartedly recommend The Pretty Ones to all fans of thrillers! Be sure to pick up a copy of The Pretty Ones today!
