A man forced to work for the enemy and a woman on the run from her past…

To infiltrate the impenetrable Red Winter compound, Archie needs help from the team he deceived and the one person who truly knows him—Meret Shahid, his childhood partner-in-crime turned photographer. The girl who once earned the nickname “the Imp” in their small Iranian village might be his only shot at redemption. But Meret has her own demons from Red Winter, and returning to the organization she barely escaped could cost her everything.

As Archie grapples with guilt over his betrayal and his growing feelings for Meret, they must navigate new threats, uneasy alliances, and shocking revelations. The mission is clear: destroy Red Winter’s empire and free the innocent families trapped within it.

But the price of redemption may be higher than either of them is willing to pay.

This book is a full-length romance with a happy ending. It is part of a 4-book interconnected series where each book features a different couple.
This is a steamy romance for readers 18+

EXCERPT:

The knock on her door had her glancing at the clock. Archie likely wanted her dinner order, even though it was a bit early. She opened the door before she considered her outfit. She’d changed into a tank top and loose shorts after lunch. For comfort. Which, of course, included ditching her bra.

Too late to turn back. She opened the door halfway and hid behind it as much as possible. Surprisingly, Archie walked a few steps into the room instead of remaining outside. When he turned to her, all the moisture in her mouth dried up.

Meret bit the inside of her cheek rather than moan out loud. Gray sweatpants hung so low on his hips, she saw the white elastic band of his underwear. A light dusting of dark hair curled across the top of his chest. There was none on his perfect abs and only a thin trail that began under his navel. The bruises from his recent fight were fading to a greenish yellow along the left side of his torso.

There were scars on his tanned skin, including a long strip across his shoulder, possibly from a knife. On his right bicep, there was a corner of a tattoo showing, but she couldn’t make out the design from this angle. Of course, he was still an agent, maintaining the top-shelf physical fitness that was required. Damn, he was beautiful.

Archie bit his lip, chagrin obvious on his face. He took a deep breath, shook his shoulders, and all the awkwardness fell away, replaced by steely determination. Meret swayed, mesmerized at the transformation. He held her gaze and this time, his voice was strong.

“What happened between us on the boat was good. But we can do much better.”

Shock held her muted. This was not what she’d expected, but oh, was it what she wanted. Her fingers flexed as electricity shot through her in anticipation. She tightened her mouth, loathe to say the wrong thing. Best to let him do the talking.

He continued, “I’m aware my experience and skills are lacking, but I’ve been studying.”

Her mouth fell open, and she managed a single word, “Studying?”

His slow grin was equally charming and sexual, even showing a hint of teeth. Her lungs shrank at least four sizes as she tried to breathe. What was happening? She was 90% sure she wasn’t dreaming. He was not only discussing her and sex, he had smiled.

His voice lowered, and she felt the vibration between her legs. “Yeah. Reading the sexy parts of romance books. I assumed it was better than watching porn made for men.”

Oh, dear God in heaven. Which books? Steamy, spicy, kinky? Okay, she’d gladly take any of the above, even if kinky was not her preference. Her nipples hardened until it was almost painful.

They both chuckled a bit, and he added, “Plus, there are actually helpful instructional websites. I only need someone to test my knowledge on.” His expression morphed to sincere. “Meret, you are the only person I want to touch me.”

Tears stung the back of her eyelids at his confession. What courage it took for him to lay it all out for her. She was honored, but mostly, she was aroused. His fiery gaze roamed all over her body, clad only in the thin tank top and short shorts. His growing erection became obvious under the loose sweats. She stood rooted to the spot in shock, so he moved closer.

He looked feral, reckless, slowly stalking towards her like a predator.

Why did she think he was reckless? Agents were never reckless. They always had a plan. And two backup plans, plus an “oh shit, everything has gone to hell” plan.

What was her plan? Meet him halfway, yank his head down for a kiss? Hold up a hand to stop him? Plot an escape? Oh, hell no.

Suddenly, she didn’t want a plan. It was time to live in the moment. He wouldn’t harm her as long as she held her heart back. Sparks sizzled along her skin, put there by the singular focus in his eyes. For this moment, she would join him in recklessness. Her anxiety broke free, and she waited for him to reach her.

Publisher: J.J. Macaw Publishing

Genre: Mystery, Cozy Mysteries, Cozy Mystery

Blurb:

The beautiful vibrant seaside village of Coral Cove is hosting its famous annual book fair. Tony Blane eagerly anticipates unveiling his manuscript exposing the environmental crisis affecting the water supply and wildlife. Maxine "Maxy" Harper was Tony's fierce childhood friend and high school sweetheart covering the book fair for her podcast. Maxy, Pulitzer prize-winning journalist, returned to her childhood home to detox from the 24/7 stress of the crime beat in Washington, D.C.

Excitement turns to horror when he discovers that his manuscript has vanished. Things take a darker turn when Tony's college mentor, Dr. Edgar March, is found dead at the fair.

Maxy’s experience kicks in with a vengeance, and she dives into questioning witnesses, uncovering secrets past and present that point to the potential eventual death of Coral Cove’s children and wildlife. Maxy and Tony embark on an investigation filled with quirky locals, including a witchy "wise woman," a Haitian grandmother known to be a voodoo priestess, and corrupt officials.

Threats built to stop the investigation and the dismissive police chief are aggressively pressured to downplay  the concerns and wrap up the murder quickly. Maxy follows clues and leads a covert expedition to a neighboring island, exploring pirate caves and discovering toxins that explain the poisoning of wildlife and people. A deadly confrontation ensues, forcing them to use every ounce of their wits—and humor—to outsmart their pursuers.

A successful ground roots campaign among the community produces pressure that can’t be ignored. It draws once reluctant state and federal authorities into Coral Cove’s fight.  The heir of the Allen family businesses works with Maxy and newfound official support to uncover the fraud and corruption at the root of the life threatening tragedy to Coral Cove.

My Review:

The seaside village of Coral Cove conceals deep, dark secrets that someone is determined to keep under wraps, willing to go to great lengths to ensure these truths remain obscured. Maxy and Tony plunge into the enigmatic puzzles buried deep within the village.

Tony was thrilled to participate in the yearly book fair, only to find that a manuscript revealing the environmental crisis impacting the water supply and local wildlife had vanished. Maxy and Tony begin to interrogate witnesses, unveiling both historical and contemporary secrets that suggest a dire future for Coral Cove’s children and animals.

The mystery and tension had me captivated with each sentence as I anticipated what revelations Tony and Maxy would discover. I was eager to find out who was responsible for the water supply debacle and what was transpiring with the children and wildlife. I was also curious to learn how far these individuals would go to protect their secrets.

I am looking forward to uncovering the new crimes that await Maxy and Tony in the next chapter of the Maxy Harper Mystery Series.

I wholeheartedly recommend Depths of Deception to all enthusiasts of cozy mysteries. Be sure to grab a copy of Depths of Deception today!

I woke up to the feel of Max’s tongue between my thighs, pulling me from sleep with waves of pleasure that made my back arch off the silk sheets.

“Fuck, Max,” I gasped, my fingers tangling in his dark hair as he worked me with that skilled mouth of his. The morning light streaming through the windows of our suite caught the blue of his eyes as he looked up at me, never breaking rhythm. He knew exactly how to make me come undone, his tongue circling and flicking until my orgasm forced a scream from my throat as I trembled beneath him.

“Good morning, beautiful,” he murmured against my skin, his voice rough with desire. “I wanted to give you a treat.” Another swipe with his tongue. Another moan from me. “Before you go to work today.”

“Work?” Oh, boy… I tried to act nonchalant, but I thought I’d failed when Max smirked at me.

“Yep. And, boy, are you going to need your strength today.” The wicked gleam in his eyes never failed to make me wet. That always meant something naughty and fun as fuck was about to follow.

I could barely form words as he continued his assault on my senses, building me higher and higher once more until I shattered with a cry that echoed through the room. My body convulsed as waves of pleasure crashed over me, and Max didn’t stop until I lay panting and boneless beneath him.

He crawled up my body like the predator he was, all muscle and controlled power, before claiming my mouth in a kiss that tasted of me and pure hunger. “You’re insatiable,” I said, my voice a hoarse whisper.

“Daddy Jacob said I should put you in a good mood.” The rough timbre of his voice vibrated through my chest. “I’m just following orders.”

A shiver of anticipation raced through me. Daddy Jacob did this often for me and his Kitten -- a game we played. He and Max knew how we loved our “jobs” and they both took great delight in keeping me and Kitten as busy as we wanted to be. I’d come to love this play time. I also loved coming back to our suite and letting Max question me and repeating every single thing I’d done while away from him.

He didn’t push into me. Not yet. Instead he braced his weight above me, his arms caging me in, and bent to kiss me. His kiss, soft, almost reverent, carried the taste of my pussy on his tongue, filthy and sweet. I opened for him, letting him take what he wanted.

Max kissed like he did everything. With full attention, like there was nothing else in the world. I wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling him closer, burying my fingers in his thick hair. He growled low, a vibration that started in his chest and echoed in mine.

When he broke away, his face hovered just above mine, his eyes impossibly blue and focused.

“I need you, Max,” I whispered, my body still on edge despite the two earlier orgasms.

He flashed me a wolfish smile. “You’ll have me, little Bunny.”

Max reached over the edge of the bed, rummaging in the nightstand, a practiced move. Condoms and lube were two staples in this house. With practice ease, Max tore open the packet and rolled the condom down his length with a downward stroke of his hand. For a second, I let myself savor the view, admiring the way his cock jutted from his body, thick and veined and angry red at the tip. I ached for him to fuck me.

Max must have seen the hunger on my face because he gripped my hips tighter, his fingers digging into my soft curves. He lined up, teasing the head along my slit, and the heat of the intimate contact the ultimate tease.

He paused, holding himself at my entrance, his mouth at my ear. “You ready, Bunny?”

Ashes and Echoes

Publication date: August 22nd 2025
Genres: Adult, Psychological Thriller

A missing friend. A locked estate. A note that says, I know what you did.

Three friends. One is missing. The truth won’t stay buried.

Mara hasn’t seen Elise in years—until a handwritten invitation pulls her back to the crumbling estate they swore they’d never return to.

But Elise isn’t there.
Her handbag is.
So is the daisy.
And a note that reads: I know what you did.

Now Mara and Jodie—the third in their fractured trio—are trapped. No cars. No signal. Nowhere to run.

The house is full of locked doors and old ghosts.
Every secret points back to that night.

Elise’s absence is only the beginning.

Some friendships end in silence.
Some secrets refuse to stay dead.

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Kobo

PROLOGUE:

There were three rules.

One: Don’t ask questions.

Two: Don’t keep records.

Three: If something goes wrong, disappear.

Elise memorised them before she knew what they meant.

Before she understood what kind of house she lived in.

What kind of programme she had been born into.

What kind of silence the adults needed in order to survive.

They were never written down. Just repeated in whispers.

Embedded in routine. Hidden in the space between a closed

door and a too-long pause.

The files were kept in a box under Ian’s bed. Locked, of

course—but not well. She picked the clasp with a bobby pin

when she was twelve and didn’t breathe again until she was

fourteen.

Inside: incident reports, training forms, assessment notes.

Faces she didn’t know. Names she couldn’t place. Her own

wasn’t among them. That unsettled her more than if it had

been.

She never told Grace.

She told no one.

But she remembered.

Not everything. Just enough.

Just the names that seemed misfiled.

The dates that didn’t line up.

The symbols that kept reappearing—on files, in margins, on

lanyards and notebooks.

And once, scratched into the underside of a metal desk in the

old admin wing: a daisy. Faint, but deliberate.

She started drawing them, too.

On the inside of her sleeve. In the dust on her windowsill.

With steam on the bathroom mirror.

By the time she turned fifteen, she no longer trusted the

silence around her. She didn’t fear it, either. But she recognised

it for what it was—a tool.

On the night of her birthday, she wrote a single line inside

the fabric lining of her mattress, using the ink from a leaking

pen:

If something happens to me, it wasn’t random. And it wasn’t

right.

She drew a daisy beside it.

And smiled, like any other girl.

BETWEEN TWO SEASONS

by Marc Macdonald

GENRE: Literary Fiction

Blurb:

Haunted by regret and stalled by guilt, Alex Chambers arrives at Silver Springs Health and Rehabilitation Centre searching for redemption. What he finds instead is Mae Seasons—a sharp-tongued, fiercely independent resident with no interest in being anyone’s project.

Alex came hoping to make amends for the mistakes of his youth, especially to the woman he once hurt. But when that hope slips away, he’s drawn into an unexpected role: caregiver and reluctant confidant to Mae, whose irreverence hides a lifetime of buried truths.

As days at Silver Springs unfold in their strange, often absurd rhythm, Alex is forced to confront the tangled grief of his past. Through awkward silences, reluctant confessions, and moments of startling vulnerability, he and Mae forge an unlikely friendship—one stitched together by shared loneliness, reluctant compassion, and the possibility of healing.

At once poignant and quietly humorous, Between Two Seasons is a story about the lives we try to outrun, the people who challenge us to face ourselves, and the surprising ways connection takes root.

Excerpt:

Walking back to my room after Mae had been escorted to her doctor’s appointment, Susanne lobbied my attention from near the elevator, requesting a word that, although promised, I knew wouldn’t be quick.

Great, I thought. What fresh hell does she have in store for me now? Was she coming, with her corporate language, to add salt to my very fresh shin wound?

Susanne was dressed in her self-styled uniform. Nearly everything was exactly the same as the day before, but instead of a navy-blue ensemble, it was charcoal grey. Even her hair looked the exact same. If her tone indicated she was operated by levers, her attire confirmed it.

Mr. Chambers, how are you this fine afternoon?” she asked cheerily. Fake, but cheerily.

I’m good, Susanne.” Thanks for asking. I guess.

I heard you had a little mishap with Ms. Seasons this morning. I do hope you will try not to rile her up like that in the future.”

Stunned at where she could have possibly received such misguided information as to the morning’s events, my mouth opened to respond, but no words formed.

Very well then. I just wanted to check in on you and remind you that our older guests here at Silver Spring can be very sensitive. Many of them have lived a life you and I could never dream of enduring. We need to be mindful of that at all times. I do hope you will remember and conduct yourself accordingly.”

I felt my jaw inching closer to the floor.

Yes, very good. If you need anything, please let Mr. Abner at the front know. He can assist you with whatever you require. Though, in the future, do try to be a little kinder to him as well. We want to make sure we treat everyone here at Silver Springs, whether staff or resident, with the utmost respect, care, and love.”

Jaw met floor.

Interview with Marc Macdonald

What is your favorite part of the book?

For me, it has to be the moment Mae and Alex arrive at the cabin. That scene captures the turning point where the chaos of their lives slows down, and they’re forced to face not only the wilderness around them but also the emotional landscapes within. It’s quiet but charged—a place where the story breathes.

Does your book have a lesson? Moral?

If there’s a lesson, it’s not to hold on so tightly to the past that you forget to live in the present. Nostalgia can be comforting, but it can also become a trap. The book is about learning to loosen that grip and rediscovering what it means to live now.

Are your characters based off real people or did they all come entirely from your imagination?

They’re entirely from my imagination. Of course, like any writer, I can’t help but be inspired by people I’ve met, scenes I’ve witnessed, or conversations I’ve overheard. But Mae, Alex, and the rest of the cast are fictional creations through and through.

Of all the characters you have created, which is your favorite and why?

Mae Seasons is my favorite. She’s got this spitfire attitude that makes her both unpredictable and magnetic. Writing her dialogue was a joy—she always seemed to have something sharp, funny, or brutally honest to say.

What character in your book are you least likely to get along with?

Probably Phil. He means well, but he can be kind of a pain, especially in the beginning. He represents that sort of person who thinks they know what’s best for everyone else, and I think I’d find myself butting heads with him pretty quickly.

What would the main character in your book have to say about you?

I think Alex and I would get along pretty well—we’d probably have some thoughtful conversations over a drink. Mae, on the other hand, might treat me exactly the way she treats Alex: skeptical, challenging, maybe even a little dismissive at first. But I’d like to believe she’d come around.

Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book?

In the last few pages of Between Two Seasons, readers get a sneak peek at the sequel, which is coming in May 2026. Those two are directly connected, continuing Mae and Alex’s journey. Beyond that, though, I imagine most of my books will stand on their own—new characters, new settings, and fresh stories that don’t require you to have read the others.
