Use
cash and keep moving.
After
I ran away from home, these were the two rules that dictated my life. Scoring a
job as a roadie fit perfectly for what I needed. Traveling, cash, and life out
of the spotlight. But when my path collides with West, the lead singer of Bus
Stop, I can’t seem to stay out of his spotlight—especially since we’ll be
touring together for an entire year.
West
is determined to break down my walls. He won’t give up. And little by little
they come crumbling. But if he knew what lurked behind them, he wouldn’t be so
eager to get rid of them.
The
more time we spend together, the more the lines of our friendship become
blurred. He makes me dream of things I never thought possible. But while our
friendship has been evolving into a romance, my secrets have been closing in.
And just when I’ve decided to reveal my past to West, I’m confronted by it. The
cost of my freedom could ruin the life of the guy I love…

Excerpt:
My lifeline, is gone. It’s all me now. The rest of
this is up to me. I look at myself in the mirror. I
look scared,
yes, but elated, too. And it’s the elated that
bolsters me for
the rest. Taking the scissors, I hold out a long
clump of my
hair…
Your hair’s so pretty. So long. Never cut it.
Clenching my jaw, I put the scissors all the way at
my
chin and whack it right off. With it, a
harsh laugh escapes me.
I hold the long blond chunk out in front of me, and
a tiny
smile creases my lips. If this is what
rebelliousness feels like,
no wonder Gideon is so afraid of it.
I cut the rest of my hair all the way up to my chin
and
tear into the red dye. I stay in the handicap stall
for thirty
minutes. Someone comes in to use the one beside me,
and
then leaves. I spend my time staying as still as
possible, like
even if I move somehow Gideon will know it. Finally
it’s time
to rinse the dye out, and as I do I hear the
announcement for
my bus to Boston.
I shove everything in the garbage, and I wedge a
baseball
hat over my wet head, grab my duffel and guitar,
and hurry
across the brightly lit station and out into the
loading bay.
I don’t think I breathe the whole time. And I don’t
lift my
head, but from under my cap my eyes flick back and
forth
across the area. Scanning. Scanning.
“I.D. and ticket,” the driver says.
With clammy, shaky fingers I hold out both, and he
takes them. If he notices my unsteady hands, he
doesn’t
mention them. Then he’s waving me on, and I’m
boarding.
I’m boarding!
I find a seat half way and tuck in, lowering my cap
even
farther and surreptitiously staring out the
windows. One-by-one
people continue to board and I don’t make eye
contact
with any of them. An elderly gentleman sits down
beside me
and proceeds to fall asleep.
Eventually, boarding is done. The driver takes his
seat.
And slowly, we pull away. As we do, I take what
feels like
the first breath I’ve had.
My new name is Eve, and as of this
moment, I’m officially a runaway.

Bleeding Hearts (Book #1)
by Dana Louise Provo
Publication Date: August 25, 2016
Publisher: Clean Reads
Orphaned at an early age, now
twenty-four-year-old Camryn Lucks is ready to commit to find that special
someone, and so accepts a date from a charming, gallant, handsome stranger. The
last thing she imagines after accepting that first date with Carson would
actually be the beginning of her worst nightmare.
Red roses, a reminder of her
parents' killer, soon become an emblem of horror for Cami as one by one, those
closest to her fall victim to a serial killer. Cami becomes an obsession for
Carson, the man she had finally allowed herself to love. Not only is he vying
for her heart, but also her life.
Finding herself in a
whirlwind of torments shadowed by the blood-colored bloom, Cami finds solace in
Isaac, a neighboring police officer. She’s desperate to escape the haunting
memories, but she must revisit them in order to catch her would-be killer.
Living life in constant fear has driven Cami to second-guess every choice she
makes. Will the police catch the illusive murderer, or will Cami be forced to
face him once again?
Excerpt:
My
arm trembles as I grip the cool handle of my pistol, keeping a firm grasp to
ensure it doesn’t slip out of my sweaty hand. It usually stands sentry in my
left nightstand to scare the nightmares away. But this isn’t a dream. The room
is dark and hides the face of the man whose intent is to kill me. But I know
who he is. A metallic taste fills my mouth; I want to gag. My blood drips off
the blade in his hand in slow, steady beats on the carpet. My arms shake as I
lift the barrel and point it in his direction. He doesn't move. His heavy
breaths alert me to the meager distance between us.
We’re
at a stalemate.
A
soft glow from the lamppost just outside my window casts a sliver of light on
his face. His dark, beady eyes that I have grown to know rake over my body like
I'm another one of his many victims. He lifts the edges of his mouth into a
smile. My heart plunges into my stomach. I know what that sinister expression
means, and I think back to all the times he had looked at me like that before.
I had been so blind.
Before
I react he lunges at me, grabbing onto my waist and twisting me to the ground.
I shriek as my head slams against the bed frame. Black spots flood my vision. I
squeeze my hand only to find it empty. My gun is gone. The sound of the knife
clattering on the floor gives me slight hope. Not much though. He climbs up my
body trying to pin my arms to the floor. I thrash my fists around, desperate to
knock him off.
“Get
off!” I scream, pulling on his shirt and kicking him off balance. Wrapping his
hands around my arms, my attacker cuts off the circulation of blood. Rug burns
flare across my skin as he drags me across the carpet. He closes his hands
around my neck, shutting off my air supply. I pull at his hands but it's no
use; he has always been stronger than me. My pulse drums a frantic beat in my
ears. The air slowly leaks out from my lungs, killing any hope I may have left.
I search for the gun around the room; it may be my only savior now.
"Why
are you doing this?" I struggle to get the words out. He squints his dark
eyes. I'm wondering if there might be a chance that he will stop this madness. I
am wrong.
"It'll
be over soon, sweetheart." His hands again tighten around my neck,
blocking the air from entering my lungs.
Author Interview:
What inspired you to write Bleeding Hearts?
My
inspiration came from when I moved into my new home. I live in Cami’s apartment
building in the book, though the name has changed. I wanted to write a story
with more than one timeline where the reader gets bounced from present day to
the past to reveal more twists and turns. After I moved in, and met my
neighbors, I built the story around them. The characters don’t necessarily
resemble their personalities, but I used them as inspiration.
When or at what
age did you know you wanted to be a writer?
I have always loved books and reading
even though parts of my life I didn’t read. About three years ago I knew I
wanted to be an author. I had begun writing and reading again and it felt so
good.
What is the
earliest age you remember reading your first book?
Elementary school, I used to read in
a lower level than my classmates. I loved reading the Amelia Belia books!
What genre of
books do you enjoy reading?
I’m a sucker for romance and enjoy
reading young adult books. But recently, after completing my first new adult
book, I started reading adult books. I also enjoy a good paranormal or
supernatural book!
What is your
favorite book?
The whole Shadow Falls series by C.C.
Hunter are my favorite. It’s a young adult supernatural series with an
abundance of romance side plots in it.
You know I
think we all have a favorite author. Who is your favorite author and why?
C.C. Hunter has a great style of
writing. After discovering The Shadow Falls series and reading those books more
times than I can count, I consider Ms. Hunter my idol.
If you could
travel back in time here on earth to any place or time. Where would you go and
why?
The French Renaissance era is where I
would travel to. For one, it’s France; what’s not to love. And two, the renn
era fascinates me, from the clothing, to the royalty, to sports, and how they
lived.
When writing a
book do you find that writing comes easy for you or is it a difficult task?
It depends on what I’m writing. BH
was really easy for me. It only took me two months to complete the first draft.
But the sequel is taking much longer than I expected, but I blame it on the
excitement of my first release!!
Do you have any
little fuzzy friends? Like a dog or a cat? Or any pets?
Unfortunately the only living
creatures I have living in my home with me are my husband and my two
houseplants names Sprout and Thorn. I have two horses, Anna and Chloe that live
at a barn facility and are cared for like queens. One day I hope to get a
puppy, but for now I pet sit in my spare time to get my animal fixes.
What is your
"to die for", favorite food/foods to eat?
Definitely a veggie taco salad from
Qdoba. I’ve been eating way too many of those delicious salads recently! But I
can’t stop. They’re so good!!
Do you have any
advice for anyone that would like to be an author?
Don’t procrastinate. Have a plan.
After you’ve written and edited your book at least 5-6 times and don’t think
there’s anything you can possibly change to make it better, then you send it
out to agents and publishers. Make sure you know who you are querying to and
when you sent that scary email out. Don’t let time slip away and use it to your
advantage. Start on more books, keep reading, and have fun with your
imagination.
Dana Provo has always loved
books and reads everything from young adult fantasy to adult historical
romances. When she’s not reading or writing her next novel, Dana can be found
riding her horses and getting ready for competition. Dana lives with her husband
and two house plants in Richmond, Virginia.

genius and demi-goddess—a.k.a Divinity—Khloe Bradenton relies on no one for
help, and she definitely doesn’t need comfort from anyone but her twin. After
her parents were killed by the demons over two years ago, she graciously
accepts her role in the war between the demons and witches. But when a creature
far more dangerous than the ones responsible for killing her parents claims he
is her guardian and steps in with help she never asked for, she is torn between
her desire for the dark predator and memories of the painful loss she endured
at the hands of her enemies and from those who claimed to love her in the past.
One of the last
Death Demons still in existence, Jagger has pledged his life to the Goddess of
Witchcraft, Hecate. Charged with guardianship of the Divinities—one particular
spitfire, in particular—he was told never to approach them, but simply to aid
from a distance. But when Khloe sacrifices herself to save her twin and best
friend and thus becomes the demons’ prey, Jagger has no choice but to reveal
himself to her. However, he is taken by surprise when the desire to claim her
as his own emerges, and his need for her burns hotter than her Fire. But in the
midst of the war, their feelings for each other could prove more dangerous than
the demons out to destroy them.

The Keeper’s Vow
by Francina
Simone
GENRE: YA
Epic Urban Fantasy
BLURB:
All Katie Watts wants
is to pass her junior-year, at Hamilton Private, with as little effort as
possible—devoting time to knitting hats, breeding gerbils, becoming a movie
critic, or even just sleeping. No wonder she isn’t ready for a world with
vampires, werewolves, and nightmares.
Her life is shattered
to pieces when Tristan gets stabbed in her front yard. She has no idea where he
came from and worse, he hears her thoughts—and when she can’t take anymore, she
starts to hear his. No one is who she thought they were. Her father is keeping
secrets and when she searches for the truth, she ends up homeless.
As the truth claws
its way to the surface, Katie and Tristan grow closer together and they find
themselves connected in more ways than she can believe. But is honesty worth
more than the peace blissful, ignorance brings? Especially if it sparks a chain
of events that will end the lives of millions? Can she live with the truth that
begins with her dead mother and ends with The Keeper’s Vow?
Excerpt:
Training Day
In one move, Tristan kicked Katie’s
legs out from under her and she hit the ground. “Shut up already. Be more
focused on what you’re doing, not me. Do you think the werewolf or vampire
who’s trying to kill you will compliment you on how you stabbed him in an
artery? Get over yourself. I’m sick of listening to your crap. You never shut
up.”
“Tristan!” Lucinda scolded.
Katie scrambled to her feet. Covered
in dust and dirt. “Then get out of my head!” How dare he complain about
invading her privacy.
“You think I enjoy this? Do you
realize I spend my entire day trying to shut you out!” Tristan yelled back.
Lucinda, Allison, and Brian were
staring at them, but Katie didn’t care if all of Boise was staring at them. She
was tired of him. Sick of not knowing whether she was right to hate him or not.
She clenched her fist and growled. “I can’t stand you.”
Tristan scowled. “Funny, you didn’t
say that yesterday.”
“I never asked you to do anything. I
didn’t show up at your school. I didn’t mess up your life!” she screamed.
“Katie,” Lucinda warned, taking a
step towards them.
Maybe it wasn’t fair that she was
taking out all of her anger on him, but he asked for it.
Tristan glared at her, his eyes
unwavering as the sun beam down on them. “I didn’t ask for you. I didn’t ask
for this. I didn’t have a choice.” He
balled up his fist and walked off.
Author Interview:
1. What inspired you to write The Keeper’s Vow?
So the Keeper’s Vow came about because I was reading a
paranormal young adult book that I thought was just super…not…great. I’ll never
reveal the title of that series (no it’s not Twilight) but I just pulled up my
sleeves and decided that if I wanted to read a specific book with vampires I’d
just have to write it instead of waiting for an author to read my mind.
2. When or at what age did you know you wanted to be a writer?
I was seventeen and I kept hearing this boy in my mind. Isaac.
He was on his way to a world full of magic and under dire circumstances he and
his best friend were separated from their parents. Isaac’s voice was slamming
around my head during class one day and I went home and wrote four or five
chapters of his story.
3. What is the earliest age you remember reading your first book?
I’m going to pick the first book I read and loved because I’m
way too old to think back all those years…I think that was Perloo the Bold by
Avi I was in the 8th grade and it was my first real introduction to
fantasy.
4. What genre of books do you enjoy reading?
I love fantasy. I pretend that I love everything but Fantasy is
my home. I just like other genres to visit every now and again.
5. What is your favorite book?
Is it fair to ask any book loving person this? I’ll tell you my
current favorite. Six Of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. I love moral ambiguity and her
characters and the world is full of it. I’m also a huge fan of a diverse cast
or and her books just satisfy a lot of my “love” checklist.
6. You know I think we all have a favorite author. Who is your favorite author and why?
J.K. Rowling, Jacklyn Moriarty, DJ MacHale, Polly Horvath. These
are authors that mean a lot to me for one reason or another, but that list is
always growing these days.
7. If you could travel back in time here on earth to any place or time. Where would you go and why?
Maybe I’d got back to 1780 ish (for like a week if it’s only
promised I don’t end up dead or deathly sick) To chit chat with Hamilton and
have a torrid love affair while he’s writing like he’s running out of time…But
I fear Lin Manuel’s Hamilton might be a bit more suave than the real one…
8. When writing a book do you find that writing comes easy for you or is it a difficult task?
This really depends. Conceptualizing is difficult. But once I’m
in the world and writing—it all comes like a giants wave and I just try to type
fast enough to stay afloat.
9. Do you have any little fuzzy friends? Like a dog or a cat? Or any pets?
I have a Catahoula puppy and a cat. My cat is 8 and he’s been
all over the world and is really low maintenance…he’s more dog than cat I
think. My puppy is currently chasing my screaming child around the house with a
hula hoop….so there is that. LOL we love him but he’s a handful.
10. What is your "to die for", favorite food/foods to eat?
Worst question for me because I’m fickle. On minute it’s key
lime pie, the next I will cut you if you ask if I want a slice *gag*. Right
now, I’m pretty bit on soup and gingerbread cookies.
11. Do you have any advice for anyone that would like to be an author?
Write. Once you have your first draft, this is the time to soak
in everything you can about story telling and writing as a craft. You’ll get
there. It takes a lot of research and time but you’ll get it and you’ll have an
amazing story. But what I want you to do now is start a blog, vlog, instagram,
twitter, whatever works for you, go out there and connect with the people who
will most likely love your story. Get out there now because you’ll make some of
the best friends and you’ll be surrounded by people who love books and writing
and on the bad days, this will help you get through them.
AUTHOR BIO:
Francina Simone is a writer of Epic Urban Fantasies
brimming with Magic and Moral Ambiguity.
From the time Francina Simone entered kindergarten,
she loved to read and share words with her friends. When she was in the
fifth-grade, she was scared to read aloud and so the teacher concluded she
wasn’t very good at reading—Francina read anyway.
Francina left her middle school book club behind for
the daunting and exciting life as a high school freshmen. She was quickly told
Young Adult books were childish and she should concern herself with finer
literature—Francina read them anyway.
Francina waved good-bye to her high school life and
strutted into University with her YA books and graphic paper to take notes. She
witnessed the birth of a YA trend where publishers flocked to sell their
stories to teens…stories that were underdeveloped and glaring with structural
issues. The message she heard as a consumer was simple—common belief is YA
readers aren’t good enough readers to discern quality stories or they are too
childish to tell the difference.
Francina dropped her degree in chemistry and decided
enough was enough—and set out to write the quality* stories her fellow readers
deserved.
After her formative years she moved to Japan, with her
best-friend and husband, land of some of the worlds best story-tellers and
creators of unique manga. There she worked on her stories and the quest to
understand what authenticity* in story means.
Now she lives in Boise with her husband, son, cat, and
Catahoula. She spends most of her time battling the terrible-twos and
puppy-dom. But when things are quiet—you can hear frantically typing away; her
mind far away with her characters in their quest to make the right decisions in
a world brimming with magic and moral ambiguity.

Hannah Winchester is
down on her luck and disillusioned with love, but her fortunes are about to
change. When Hannah inherits a defunct bakery in East Tennessee, her first
thought is to sell it and settle her substantial debt. Then the townsfolk
welcome her warmly and she’s taken with the joyful spirit of the place, where
stores employ holiday themes and residents have surnames like Christmas and

he’s more than a hot guy in a red suit and shiny black boots. Sheriff Carter
Livingston has joined in the cause of rejuvenating the town, and he’s
encouraging her to do her part. Hannah’s great-grandmother, Lena, sold special
holiday cookies that brought hope and renewal to the people of Christmas Town.
Yet Hannah has plans elsewhere and isn’t looking to stay. Can she possibly

Excerpt:
Hannah held back the door, greeting
the men on the street. Frank Cho gave a friendly smile, bomber jacket zipped up
tight and thumbs hitched in his utility belt. “You must be Hannah.”
“Thanks for coming by, and on such

“No problem,” Frank said as Carter

Just as Frank spoke, Carter locked

turned to her, puzzled, and Carter reached up and smoothly shut the door.
Hannah noted the paper bag in his hand. Its logo read The Elf Shelf Book Shop.

him a smile. “Been shopping?”
“Had some errands to run.” Carter
awkwardly cleared his throat. “On this street.”
Frank paused in unzipping his jacket
to scrutinize them both. In a flash, his face registered understanding. “I’ll
just go check things out, while you two get acquainted.”
“Oh no, we’ve—”
“Met,” Carter finished for her. His
eyes were a thicket of pines: lush, green, and inviting. Heat warmed her cheeks
as Carter removed his hat and pressed it to his chest.
“Right.” Frank repressed a grin. “In
that case, reacquainted.” Hannah was vaguely aware of Frank turning her way.
“Fuse box?”
“Kitchen,” she said weakly, never
taking her eyes off Carter’s.
Frank clucked his tongue. “Uh-huh.
Uh-huh.”
As he trailed away, Hannah could
have sworn he said, “Major power surges could be an issue.”
Carter shifted his hat to the hand
holding the bag. “Hannah…”
“Frank seems to have gotten the
wrong impression.”
“What impression is that?”
Her color deepened. “That you and
I—”
“But we’re not,” he assured her
firmly.
“No.”
“Not even in the least.”
Hannah shook her head.
“The only thing is…”
Hannah waited, her heart drumming.
“We could be, if you wanted.”
“Could be what?”
“Going out.” A sly smile crept up
his lips. “You did kind of invite me.”
“The rain check.” The words were a
breathy whisper.
“Yeah.” Carter raised his free hand
and lightly traced her lips with his thumb.
Hannah’s pulse raced and butterflies
went wild within her.
“How about that rain check?” he
continued. His palm was on her cheek now, the heel of his hand cradling her
chin. Carter took a step closer. Only his hat and the shopping bag stood
between them. “Can I cash it in?”
