Some call them “tramps.” In Greek, they are called
vrykolakas, or “vryks,” which sometimes gets translated to “freaks.” They are
the vampires of Athens, created centuries ago by the Maenads. They live in
caves beneath the acropolis, without economic resources and according to rules
imposed on them by the Olympians. They are forbidden from turning humans into
vampires, which happens when all of the blood is drained; however, they are
allowed to drink from a willing mortal. Some mortals are willing because a
vampire bite will infect the body for six hours, and, during that time, the
mortal has the powers of flight, invisibility, strength, speed, x-ray vision,
and mind control. Such great power can become irresistible, though dangerous
and addicting to mortals.
As seventeen-year-old Gertie, studying abroad from New
York, uncovers the unfathomable secrets of this ancient city, she unwittingly
becomes a catalyst in an uprising led by Dionysus, the god of wine and lord of
the vampires.
My
Review:
Gertie is a sixteen year old American girl who is being
sent to spend a year with a family in Athens and go to school there. Her
parents try to tell her that this will be good for her but Gertie knows they
just want to get rid of her for a while. Gertie doesn’t have any friends at her
school in New York well not true friends. So there really isn’t anyone or
anything that she will miss. But Gertie loves spending time alone so that she
can read. Gertie loves reading about vampires and Greek mythology. So you would
think she would love visiting Athens but it is not Athens particularly that she
doesn’t want to see. She is just afraid of the unknown and of being around
people or someone she doesn’t know.
But once she arrives in Athens and meets the family that
she will be staying with and gets to know them as well as a friend of theirs
Gertie falls in love with all of them and doesn’t ever want to leave. Gertie
actually meets two guys, Jeno and Hector while in Athens that she really likes a lot
and they both like her very much as well. The family that Gertie is staying
with warns her away from Jeno though.
Athens has some secrets that they try to keep hidden from
most humans. In the ancient city don’t be surprise if you run into a vampire or
two or maybe even a Greek god or two as well. Jeno is a part of this secret
world he is a vampire. And the family that she is staying with warns her away
from Jeno for this reason. They think that vampires are nothing but tramps and
if you hang with them then you must be just like them.
But Gertie likes Jeno very much and doesn’t want to lose
her new friend but she doesn’t want to lose her new family either so what is a
girl to do? Jeno is very addicting but she loves her new family very much. Can
she have both? Her new family and Jeno? Will she have to choose between the
two?
Yes Vampire Addiction is very addicting. Once I started
reading it I couldn’t put it down. I think I read it in one setting. Vampire
Addiction will grab you right on the first page and keep you enthralled the
whole way through until the last page and beyond. I love me some vampires but
throwing in Greek mythology was out of this world as I do love both. If you
love vampires and Greek mythology then you are going to love this mixture of
the two. Pick up your copy today and get started on this new series. I can’t
wait to read the next book Vampire Affliction in The Vampires of Athens.
Eva Pohler is the Amazon bestselling author of The
Mystery Book Collection and four series for young adults: The
Gatekeeper's Saga, The Gatekeeper’s Saga Spin-Off Series, The
Purgatorium Series, and The Vampires of Athens. Her books have
been described as "thrilling" and "addictive." A Kirkus reviewer
said of The Gatekeeper's Sons that it was "sure to thrill
Hunger Games fans."
A reader herself, Eva writes in multiple genres, but all
of her stories blur the line between reality and fantasy, truth and delusion,
and draw from Eva's personal philosophy that a reader must be lured and
abducted into complete captivity in order to enjoy the reading experience.

EXCERPT:
I trudged up the stairs to my apartment and wiped wet tendrils from my face. Water sloshed in my boots, a reminder of today’s most recent adventure. I’d had the pleasure of bodyguard duty for a water nymph, which was no easy task given that, in her eyes, I was a glorified babysitter, and we happened to be staying in a cabin that was mere feet from the Spokane River. It was the middle of January, and I’d taken the polar bear plunge more than once today. I was chilled to the bone, wet, hungry, and I sorely needed a good cup of coffee, or three.
Only one more flight of stairs to go. I could already taste the coffee on my tongue and feel the hot spray of a warm shower against my skin.As my apartment door came into view, the hairs on the back of my neck rose and my body went on high alert. Something was off, and dammit, wasn’t that just my luck. I stood in the hall, a chilling breeze whipping my wet hair around my face from the open balcony doors and stinging my cheeks. Shit, it was cold.
I narrowed my gaze. Why were the balcony doors open in the middle of winter? It was like a blizzard out there. I stepped closer toward the balcony, intending to shut the doors, when a splash of red to my left caught my attention instead. There was blood on the doorknob leading into my apartment. This couldn’t be good.
I took a deep breath and debated just turning around. I was too tired to deal with anything else today. Was it too much to ask for some dry clothes and a hot cup of coffee? For chrissakes, I’d take a cold cup of coffee at this point. Then again, it was my apartment, and with my luck, there would be a dead body inside and I’d be framed for the murder. Why couldn’t stuff like this happen at a decent time of day when I was fully rested?
I pressed my ear against the door. Well, really it was more like I slumped against the door, but the result was the same. I listened for any signs of movement. The wooden door was cool against my cheek. Silence greeted me. Hmm, maybe there really is a dead body, I mused with a sick sense of morbid curiosity.

Since the horrific night a drunk driver slammed into their car during his driving lesson, young Teddy has had to live with the memory of seeing his beloved father, Stan, die. Now just sixteen, he carries both sorrow and survivor’s guilt.
Concerned for her grieving son, Mary decides to put as much distance as she can between Teddy and the nightmarish Phoenix intersection that claimed Stan’s life. She moves the family to Stan’s small Indiana hometown, a place of peace in which she hopes they can build new memories. There, Teddy finds inspiration in an old book his great-grandfather carried with him to America, a book Bulgarian fathers have always read to their sons.
Is Stan reaching out to his son from the grave?
Mary also makes an equally life-changing discovery in the small town—Rosetta, Stan’s high school sweetheart. The deeper Mary digs, the more she learns of the forbidden love Stan and Rosetta shared. During the Civil Rights Movement, they dared to reach out for love across racial lines.
Now as their three lives intertwine, Teddy, Mary, and Rosetta must make difficult choices. Will they choose happiness? Or will old pains cause them to live as victims of circumstances?
Beginning in 1912 on Ellis Island and told in three voices over four generations, I’ll Always Be with You is a profound celebration of the power of family.
Praise for I'll Always Be with You:
"A two-tissue tale about life after loss." Kirkus Review
"...a simple but engaging tale of life after loss. It never devolves into pointless melancholy, but simmers like a pot of family recipe chicken soup, goes down wonderfully, and warms from within." Clarion Review
"...a gem of a story that has heart, soul and empathetic insights and is potent in its small moments. This beautifully crafted, touching book offers tender wisdom that will draw a wide audience and could be especially appealing to young adults grappling with insecurities and difficult times." Blue Ink Review

EXCERPT:
The Hunger
“A lot’s happened since you decided to shut down and wallow in self-pity. You’ve been impossible to talk to, and I’ve been bored out of my mind. I thought we came here because we were going to figure things out. What happened to ‘I’m going to save the people I love’? Did you just feed me that bull so I’d agree to come with you?”
“You know that’s not true. I meant it.”“Then what’s the hold up?” Galilea’s irritated face turned a subtle shade of pink. Her pulse quickened just the slightest bit.
I was surprised at how much my senses had developed. Heighted. Months ago, I wouldn’t have noticed any of this, but now, I could even smell the natural notes of musk on her skin. I felt my mouth water. Sometimes, I liked that my new superhuman senses gave me insight to peoples’ moods and emotions. Most of the time, they were waiting for me to let my guard down so the beast could take over.
“Galilea.” I closed my eyes. “I’m hungry.”
“You can’t just change the subject. You do it all the time. I’m tired of it.”
“I’m not changing the subject. I’m trying to tell you I don’t know how much longer I’ll be able to control myself. How am I supposed to save anyone when I want to rip out their guts?”

Mama
didn’t want me. In fact, she would’ve traded my soul back for someone different
if God would’ve let her, but he didn’t, so she was stuck with me.
For eighteen-year-old Lacey, life at home is a rollercoaster. She doesn’t think she’ll ever be good enough to truly deserve Mama’s love.
But when Lacey enters college and meets Walker, everything starts to change. Suddenly, Lacey is face to face with the realization that maybe what she’s always seen as normal really isn’t. Her entire life—and everything she’s ever believed about herself and her family—is abruptly hanging in midair.
Lacey is left facing two paths, and she has to make a choice. The first means walking away from everything she’s ever known. The other means never really knowing the truth.
The Truth She Knew offers an honest and powerful glimpse into mental illness, the meaning of true love, and the psychological waltz that a daughter dances as she endures her mother’s unpredictable emotions, manipulation, and abuse.

Mama didn’t want me. In fact, she
would’ve traded my soul back for someone different if God would’ve let her, but
he didn’t, so she was stuck with me. She reminded me of this on a consistent
basis, and as hard as I tried, I couldn’t change her mind. Finally, I had to
make a choice: her or me.
My heels clicked against the cold tile
floor of the hospital and my heart fluttered as I searched the room numbers.
I rubbed my clammy hands against my
jeans as I saw the ladies’ restroom and hurried toward it. I needed a minute
before I reached her room. I pushed the door open and scanned the bathroom for
anyone else. It was empty.
My purse landed with a thud on the
bathroom counter. I turned the cold water on, splashed it on my cheeks, and
wiped my face with a paper towel.
“Breathe,” I muttered. “She can’t hurt
you anymore. You’re grown.”
My pep talk wasn’t working. Fear was
gnawing at my stomach.
I reached into my bag, grabbed my
powder compact, and touched up my makeup. My green eyes shone brighter against
the redness left from my tears. I ran a brush through my long, blond hair and
dabbed a hint of gloss on my lips, more out of habit than need.
“Let’s do this, Lacey. Suck it up,” I
said to my reflection. I released a slow, deep breath and headed out of the
restroom and down the hall toward the ICU.

Only a fool steals from a wizard.
Talon Stormbringer thought he knew the risk of stealing from Viland Shadowbreaker - until he got caught. The wizard will spare him if Talon performs a service - fetch the deadly silver elixir from the Everway, a supernatural land that Talon assumed wasn’t real. Only children believe the stories about what lies within - lost souls, corrupted magic items, and mysterious destinations that most people never escape. Ruling over it all is the Ever Fiend, a bogeyman that people use to scare unruly youngsters into behaving.
Talon agrees to go, if only to stop Viland from doing something unholy with the potent elixir once retrieved. Joining him are a band of people he can’t trust. Their leader, a sorelia with nefarious plans of his own. The sorelia’s battle-trained mynx, a large cat who obeys only its master. An alluring swordswoman who wants to enchant her blades with the elixir. A cocky guard whose bravado might prove more liability than asset. Of all the things they might discover on their journey, one is the most obvious and yet the hardest to learn...

Only a fool steals from the Ever Fiend.
Excerpt:
While most in Talendor slumbered,
Talon Stormbringer crept through a hallway dark with flickering shadows, his
human ears and eyes alert. He’d already slipped undetected past a jhaikan and a
mynx, undeterred by their ferocity and taste for man-flesh. Even the dozen
sleeping riven in the courtyard hadn’t given him pause, when even fully armored
knights would have turned away. The little monsters were infamous for stirring
at the slightest sound and waking to become like a whirling dervish of steel,
not unlike what Talon himself could unleash from the sword he gripped in one
hand.
Now he heard nothing, not even his
own passage, the supple black leather pants and tunic he wore never squeaking
as he crept toward the doorway and his prize—the gold figurine of a great bird
of prey, said to be magical and worth a fortune. Stories in taverns had piqued
his interest but also warned him of the dangers, the greatest of those being
the wizard whose white tower he now prowled. Some said Viland Shadowbreaker
enjoyed unsavory habits when few were looking, his public persona of benevolent
charm masking a dark truth. But men with great secrets often hide things of
greater importance than their private sins.

I had always been a good girl ruled by my catholic guilt, until one little slip-up in college led me down a different path. Now, I'm just trying to be the best mom I can to my little girl, making ends meet - cleaning houses by day, hosting sex toy parties at night, and holding out hope that Prince Charming truly does exist.
Then I met him - handsome, successful, and hardworking. The perfect Prince Charming.
Right? Wrong. So wrong.
I'm carefree.
He's a perfectionist.
I'm broke.
He's rich.
I'm a single mom.
He doesn't have patience for kids.
And…Did I mention, he's my new boss? A boss who has me thinking more impure thoughts than a teenage boy with their first dirty magazine, a boss who is totally out of my league, and a boss who I'm impossibly attracted to.
Sometimes a girl must give up the illusion that fairy tales exist and realize happily ever afters only happen in movies. I'm not a princess, and he's not a prince.
But when an unconventional fairy godmother intervenes to work her magic, maybe just maybe, I'll get to wear that crown after all.
Ever since I can remember, I have always enjoyed Creative Writing. There was always something about being able to travel to a different place or become a different person with just the stroke of a pen - or in today's world a touch of the keyboard. I am the author of The Exception To The Rule, An Unplanned Lesson, An Unplanned Life, Drowning In Love, A Cry for Hope, A Will To Change, Blind Side of Love, When The Chips Are Down and Easy Silence.
My life is not as interesting as my books or the characters in them, but then again whose life is? I'm a mom of twin teenage boys, a crazy Border Collie and a cat with an identity crisis! I guess you can say writing is my form of relaxation.
