Chasing Truth
(Eleanor Ames #1)
by Julie Cross
Publication
Date: September 27, 2016
Publisher: Entangled TEEN
At
Holden Prep, the rich and powerful rule the school—and they’ll do just about
anything to keep their dirty little secrets hidden.
When
former con artist Eleanor Ames’s homecoming date commits suicide, she’s
positive there’s something more going on. The more questions she asks, though,
the more she crosses paths with Miles Beckett. He’s sexy, mysterious,
arrogant…and he’s asking all the same questions.
Eleanor
might not trust him—she doesn’t even like him—but they can’t keep their hands
off of each other. Fighting the infuriating attraction is almost as hard as
ignoring the fact that Miles isn’t telling her the truth…and that there’s a
good chance he thinks she’s the killer.

Excerpt:
Clay
Everyone
in the apartment is awake when I get back from dropping Kat off. Emmett is on
the couch playing Madden and Max is
in the kitchen with Sophie making something to eat. Well, I guess that answers
last nights question. When Max sees me, he grins. “Where’ve you been? Taking
home last night’s guest?”
He
doesn’t have a clue. Max was already in his room, I guess with his girl, when I
brought Kat inside. I don’t answer, and Max being Max, he doesn’t let it go.
“C’mon man,” he cajoles. “You gotta tell us who the girl was.” He turns to
Emmett and tries to pull him into the conversation. “Right, Em? Shouldn’t he
tell us?”
Emmett
doesn’t acknowledge him. I don’t have time to worry about it though, because
Max’s girl chimes in. “Maxie, leave your brother alone.” God, her voice is annoying. I’m talking nails on a chalkboard,
migraine-causing annoying. She puts a hand on Max’s arm, running it up and down
in a soothing motion as she goes up on her toes to say something in his ear.
It’s low enough I can’t hear it, but based on the way his eyes widen before he
glares at me, I can guess.
“Kat? Kat is the girl you took home?”
Before I can tell him she just slept here, alone, he moves Sophie out of the
way and gets up in my face. “What the fuck,
bro? Kat hates you. How’d you get her
to agree to that? She never would’ve come with you willingly.”
His
implication gets my back up. Now I’m pissed. I shove him backward, but he’s not
as easy to push around now, so he doesn’t go far. This time, I’m the one who’s
up in his face. “First of all, fuck you. I don’t have to get a girl drunk to
get laid.” Max narrows his eyes, but I don’t let him say anything. “Second, if
she was here for that—and I’m not
saying she was—it would be none of your goddamn business. You’ve made it pretty
clear you don’t think of her that way, so don’t you fucking dare put that shit off on me.”
“Then
why was she here? You can’t make me believe she did a complete one-eighty and
suddenly she’s all about your dick. Kat’s better than that.” I know full well I
can be an asshole, but I’m nowhere near the person he’s acting like I am.
What
a douchebag. “Man, for someone who’s supposed to be such good friends with her,
do you know her at all? Even a little?” I step closer, to the point we’re
almost nose to nose. Or, we would be if he wasn’t two inches shorter than me.
“Your girl Kat, she got drunk off her ass. Drunk to the point she passed the
hell out. I couldn’t find her roommate and her phone was missing, so I brought
her here to sleep it off.” Max backs down, but I’m not finished. He takes a
couple steps back, and I throw my hands out at my sides. “What would you have
me do? Call her parents? Her sister? You?”
I scoff. “Obviously, you were otherwise occupied, so that wouldn’t have
worked.” Now, I’m the one backing up. I’m disappointed as hell in my little
brother.
“Not
that I owe your ass an explanation, but she slept in my bed. I slept on the motherfucking couch. Alone.” Throughout this entire conversation, Emmett hasn’t moved.
That pisses me off more because all those times people were giving him shit
about Livvie, I had his back. Even when I didn’t agree with him, I took his side.
And now? He’s just watching the show. “Fuck this. Fuck you. I’m out.” I slam the door to the apartment when I leave and
stomp down the stairs to my car.

Erin Hayes
(The Cotton Candy Quintet #4)
Publication date: September 22nd 2016
Genres: Paranormal, Young Adult
Christine would do anything to get away from it all.
After escaping an abusive marriage and heading up a group of brand new performers, she’s tired and in need of a vacation. So when her sister Sara wants her to go camping out in the mountains of Georgia with the girls, she packs her bags for some rest and relaxation. Not even meeting a gorgeous park ranger like Colton Donnelly is going to distract her.
Except Sara didn’t tell her the real reason for the trip: she’s running away from a terrible secret. One that puts all of their lives in danger.
Now the vacation that Christine so desperately needed is ruined, but that’s the least of her worries. She has to use her wits and skills to save them all. Because she soon finds out that werewolves are very real. And they’ll stop at nothing to get their claws into her sister.
—
EXCERPT:
When the sliding door locked, I turned my gaze onto Sara and watched her, waiting for her to bring up her story. I wanted her to be the one who talked first, if only because I didn’t want to prod her too much if she was traumatized by whatever this was.
But if she was going to try to weasel her way out of talking to me, she had another thing coming.“Wow,” she murmured softly. “Look at that full moon.”
I picked up a note of fear in her voice. “Yeah,” I said cautiously. “It’s beautiful.”
“I used to think so.” Sara turned around and looked back at me. Her eyes were wide with fright and the rigidity told me something else was going on with her.
Finally, my patience snapped.
“Sara, what’s wrong?”
“You won’t believe me,” she repeated, using the same phrase she used when we were putting food away.
I crossed my arms. “I think you’ll be surprised.”
Sara’s jaw worked. “I think I’m going to need more wine for this.”
I held up my glass. “Just drink mine.” Don’t think I’m letting you back in the kitchen that easily. She’d run away and hide and hoped I’d forget about it. She wanted to talk about it, but she was too afraid to.
She took my glass and downed the rest of it in one chug. I raised my eyebrows in surprise.
“Okay,” she said, as if warming herself up for our talk. “Okay.”
“It will be all right,” I told her.
“No, it won’t.” Tears started filling her eyes. “Christine, do you believe in werewolves?”

SNEAK PEEK:
He entered Natalie’s bedroom. Moonlight glanced through the window and shone on her face. Her dark hair lay like liquid night on a pillow. Those perfect lips barely parted. Her sleep was peaceful. Restful. A thought . . . a memory . . . a moment from before, with Marisol, flashed through Beck’s mind like lightning in a summer sky, then was gone.
Natalie was tough. She might appear like a sexy girly-girl, but with all the treachery she’d endured from her family and friends, she’d developed a thick hide to survive and thrive.
Beck circled the room. Tested the locks on the French doors that led to the balcony. Her room was on the second floor, but if a person was determined they’d find a way to get inside. He scanned the bathroom. Pretty damn swank. Next was the walk-in closet, which was bigger than his last apartment and filled with more shit than one of those fancy-ass high-end department stores.
He circled back to the bedroom and stopped beside Natalie’s bed. She had no reason to trust Beck. All the people in her life had failed her when she’d trusted them. Why would she expect anything different from him?
Because Beck wouldn’t fail. Not again. Not this time.
“What are you doing in my room?”
“My job.”

No Known Address
by Jo A
Hiestand
GENRE: British
mystery
BLURB:
The man seemed not to hear the continuous whine of the phone
receiver lying on his lap. He sat upright, stiff-backed, in a wooden kitchen
chair that, like the house, had seen better days. As he had also seen better
days, he reminded himself, glancing at the calendar on the wall. A date circled
in black ink smirked at him, the remaining days of the month X-ed out. As
though he was counting down to something. But the dates were three years old.
The discrepancy didn’t bother him. He had never flipped over the rest of the months. They didn’t intrigue him; it didn’t upset him that he had stared at January for more than a thousand days. If he flipped over the page it would signal that the search needed to continue into another month. And possibly another. And another. The consequence was too terrible to comprehend.
Excerpt:
“There’s the problem of Luke’s guitar.”
“Something wrong with it, Michael?”
“On the contrary, Dena. It’s a very
fine instrument. Twin to my own.” He glanced at his own guitar sprawled across
two-thirds of the living room sofa. “Same make, same model. Dreadnought size.
Perfect for folk or bluegrass music.”
“He goes up in your estimation as a
musician, then.”
He opened his mouth to protest her
suggestion that he played favorites with victims, but her laugh implied she was
joking.
“So, what’s odd about the guitar, Michael?
Don’t tell me there’s something stashed in it.”
“As I said, the instrument is fine. But
don’t you think it’s strange that he would vanish around four-thirty,
presumably on his way to sing that night, and not have his guitar with him?”
My Review:
This is the first of the A McLaren Mystery and the first
book by Jo A Heistand that I have read. I don’t read many mystery novels
although I use to love watching a good murder mystery on tv. You know like the
old tv show Murder She Wrote. Yes now I loved that show way back when as they
say.
I would have to say that Jo definitely knows the meaning
of the word mystery. She will keep you on your toes the whole way through the
novel making you guess over and over trying to figure out who do it. I was
always trying to figure it out. I was like oh yeah he did it or no maybe she
did. Then I would be like I don’t know maybe he did it. But I did have fun
trying to figure out what happened to our missing person.
Michael McLaren is asked to find Gary Barber’s son Luke
who went missing three years ago. McLaren finds that he has quite the list of
suspects and a lot of road to travel to find out what happened to Luke. Luke
was a very well-known and likeable person in the community. He stayed to
himself. He loved playing tennis and his music. He helped his father out on the
farm besides his music, tennis and the farm.
Luke pretty much stayed to himself and didn’t bother
anyone. So who would have wanted to hurt Luke? What did they have against him?
Or maybe it wasn’t Luke they had a beef with maybe it was his girlfriend or his
father.
If you like reading a good mystery then you are going to
love reading No Known Address it will grab you right from the beginning and won’t
let go until you have read the last word. Who can pass up a good whodunit?
AUTHOR BIO:
Books, Girl Scouts and music filled Jo A.
Hiestand’s childhood. She discovered the
magic of words and the worlds they create: mysteries, English medieval history,
the natural world. She explored the joys
of the outdoors through Girl Scout camping trips and summers as a canoeing
instructor and camp counselor. Brought
up on classical, big band and baroque music, she was groomed as a concert
pianist until forsaking the piano for the harpsichord. She also plays a Martin guitar and has sung
in a semi-professional folkgroup in the US and as a soloist in England.
This mixture formed the foundation for her writing. A true Anglophile, Jo wanted to create a mystery
series that featured a British police detective who left the Force over an
injustice and now investigates cold cases on his own. The result is the McLaren Mysteries,
featuring ex-police detective Michael McLaren.
Jo’s insistence for accuracy -- from police methods and
location layout to the general “feel” of the area -- has driven her innumerable
times to Derbyshire. These explorations
and conferences with police friends provide the detail filling the books.
In 1999 Jo returned to Webster University to major in
English. She graduated in 2001 with a BA
degree and departmental honors.
She has employed her love of writing, board games and music in
other ways by co-inventing a mystery-solving game, P.I.R.A.T.E.S., which
uses maps, graphics, song lyrics, and other clues to lead the players to the
lost treasure.
Jo founded the Greater St. Louis Chapter of Sisters in Crime,
serving as its first president. Besides her love of mysteries and early music,
she also enjoys photography, reading, crewel embroidery, and her backyard
wildlife.
Her cat, Tennyson, shares her St. Louis-area home.

Gerald Wright works for billionaires. He never imagined he’d become one.
The former Navy Seal is a chauffeur by day, artist by night, so when hotter-than-ever ex-fiancée Suzanne Dayton interrupts his nude model sculpting class to serve him with inheritance paperwork from a man he’s never heard of, he assumes it’s a joke.
Turns out the joke’s on him. There’s just one catch. A big one.
And it might be Suzanne — in more ways than he ever dreamed.

SNEAK PEEK:
He smelled like home. Like love. Like promise and comfort, like passion and disbelief.“What’s wrong?” he snapped, his face alternating between joy and anger. “Why are you here?”
Coming to her senses, she extracted the thick envelope from her brief bag, looking him square in the eye. “Legal matter. I’ve been instructed to deliver this to you.” She used remarkable restraint in not peering around Gerald to get more of an eyeful of Declan McCormick’s stately form.
Then again, Gerald was an impenetrable wall of muscle himself, not easily subverted. She’d need taller heels to peer around him. He did not move his palm from her arm, and his touch infused her, a deeply satisfying sense of connection slowly creeping along her skin, her breath quickening, his touch ringing bells inside her that had been dormant for a decade.
“What is it?”
“Read it. You’ll understand.” She turned on her heel and started to leave, shaking inside so hard she might trigger the New Madrid fault.
He glared at her. “What? That’s it? Ten years and that’s it?” He pulled back, breaking contact.
All her anxiety faded, like an antidote injected straight into the heart, his words kicking in, providing such clarity.
“Ten years you chose, Gerald,” she hissed, mouth curling, throat seizing. “You do not get to put this on me.” Grief flared in her, a burst like a fireball, and then it turned to the ash of anger, a light coat settling over every spare surface of her heart.
His eyebrows shot up, eyes gliding away, his nose twitching and mouth tightening as if holding back.
Squaring her shoulders, Suzanne decided to make this easy for him. God only knew why. “My law firm is handling the estate of deceased billionaire Harold Hopewell. You’ve been named in his will.” She tapped the thick envelope in his hand. “These papers explain everything.”
“Explain what?”
“You’re his heir. One of them, at least.”

Publication date: October 18th 2016
Genres: New Adult, Romance
Kylah
I’ve always lived in the shadows of my athletic older brother and my charismatic twin sister. And that’s okay by me. I don’t mind being known as the shy wallflower. The gawky geek. The sweet, virginal girl. Well, that’s one label I’ve been trying to shed since starting my freshman year in college this year. The thing is, no one’s ever looked twice at me.
Until I met Van Gerard.
He notices me. He looks at me and seems to like what he sees. He understands and listens to me. He’s become a great friend. The problem is, I don’t want him as a friend.
I want more.
But my brother – along with a state line between us, and oh yeah, Van’s long-time girlfriend – are just a few complications getting in the way of what I want.
Van
I thought my senior year in college would be the best time of my life. I’m a starter on a Pac-12 basketball team, set to graduate with a degree in Finance. I have a girlfriend whom I’d planned to start a future with. I thought my life was already mapped out.
But then the bottom dropped out with a confession I never expected to hear, from the girl I thought I knew.
I thought wrong.
Luckily for me, Kylah Griffin was there to break my fall. She’s the best thing this year has given me. She’s helped me through a devastating blow that could have sent me reeling.
I know she wants more, but I’m not sure I can give it. Now that I’ve been burned, I don’t think I can go there again. Kylah’s not a hook-up, and she’s definitely not a rebound. She’s a sweet girl who deserves more than to be friend-zoned.
If only things weren’t so complicated.
Author Bio:
Since writing and publishing her first book in 2014, Sierra Hill has found her creative passion in writing about the fictional characters that live in her brain, who are constantly shouting for their own love stories to be told.
Sierra frequently indulges in what some might consider to be an unhealthy dose of reading, dark chocolate candy, and way too much coffee. She hates cold weather, and frequently finds herself traveling around the country to see her favorite live musicians in concert.
Sierra resides in the Pacific Northwest with her husband of twenty years and her long-haired, German Shepherd. She is currently working on her next book.

SNEAK PEEK:
BEARS DO IT BETTER
by Jessie Lane
All reason left him as his bear surged to the front of his mind, demanding to be let out. The beast wanted to find whatever or whoever was making that scent and make it his.by Jessie Lane
Ignoring the calls from his bear brethren on the den porch, Borys turned and started stalking toward the edge of the forest across the lawn. With every step he took, a little more reason left him and a bit more desperation took over both him and his bear. The aroma became stronger, sweeter as he found himself now running toward the trees.
In the back of his mind, he registered the fact that people were calling his name behind him, but nothing was as important as finding that scent. It was something like oatmeal cookies laced with vanilla, but better. It made his mouth water and his cock hard.
He probably should have been concerned over the fact that he might be getting hard for a cookie, but he couldn’t bring himself to care. He wanted that fucking cookie, and he wanted it now! Borys could analyze the disturbing new trait later and pray that it wouldn’t hinder his grocery shopping trips.
The edge of the forest was coming up fast, the nearest trees only a few feet away. By now, the mouthwatering smell was strong, and he knew he was close to finding his proverbial cookie.
His bear roared inside his head that there were others chasing them. He needed to hurry before they could reach his cookie.
Borys assured his beast no one would have their cookie but them. They were so close … just a little farther.
Running around the massive trees, he followed that sweet scent, zeroing in on one tree in particular. Just a few more feet, and he could climb up that tree and figure out what was making that smell that was slowly driving him insane.
Leaping off the ground, Borys sunk his bear claws into the tree and started to climb up. Maneuvering his way around a few branches, panting, not with exhaustion, but the need for that damn cookie. It struck him a bit dumb when he pulled himself up onto the thickest branch and found, not his mouthwatering oatmeal cookie, but a pair of big brown eyes set in the prettiest face he had ever laid eyes on. Did the woman have his cookie?
With his brain and his bear running on nothing but the most primitive instincts, he growled, “Gimme the cookie.”
