A new dawn, a new weapon.

Alice thought she understood her purpose.

She was the first Nightwalker, a vampire made to hunt her own kind.

But the Order of the Morning Dawn has a new creation.

A rebellious progeny, forged by Alice's own bite.

Loyal only to the Order, he wields a glowing silver crucifix, a "Gilded Cross."

They claim its light is celestial, a gift from angels.

Alice, secretly sustained by the Eucharist, suspects a darker origin.

Could this holy light be born of the very witchcraft the Order condemns?

As the lines between good and evil blur, Alice must uncover the truth.

Is the Order truly fighting darkness, or are they the greater evil?

And can she save her soul when her own creation is turned against her?

In 1891 Alice Bladewell lost her human life. It was when her new existence began. For more than a century, she was an agent of the Order of the Morning Dawn, a pseudo-religious organization dedicated to the elimination of all vampires and witches.

You've read about Alice before in The Legacy/Fury of a Vampire Witch, in The Legend of Nyx, and in Alice in Vampireland.

This is Alice's story. How she became a vampire, made to kill other vampires - and how she became the nightmare that the Order feared the most.

My Review:

The Gilded Cross serves as an excellent follow-up to the Nightwalker series by Theophilus Monroe. I was immediately captivated by the narrative after perusing the summary. The plot kept me engaged with its intriguing mysteries that rendered the story enthralling. I enjoyed discovering more about Alice, her transformation into a vampire, and the universe she inhabits.

The world-building is among the finest I’ve encountered. I appreciated the blend of religion and vampirism, illustrating how these two realms merged seamlessly. The interplay of light and darkness unfolds in multiple fascinating ways.

I’m completely invested and eagerly anticipate the next installment in the Nightwalker series to uncover where Alice’s journey leads her next.

I wholeheartedly recommend The Gilded Cross to all enthusiasts of vampires and the paranormal! Be sure to grab your copy of The Gilded Cross today and join Alice in a one-of-a-kind vampire universe like no other!

Book Blitz + #Giveaway: The Ordinary Bruja by Johanny Ortega @XpressoTours

The Ordinary Bruja: Marisol’s Story
Johanny Ortega
(Las Cerradoras, #1)
Publication date: November 1st 2025
Genres: Adult, Horror, Magical Realism, Psychological

The Ordinary Bruja is a haunting and heartfelt coming-of-age novel wrapped in Dominican magical realism and psychological horror.

Marisol Espinal doesn’t believe she’s special. Not when she’s back in her small Ohio hometown, working as a barista, haunted by grief and the girls who once made her life hell. But when mirrors flicker with strange words, cigar smoke curls where no one is smoking, and voices whisper from Hallowthorn Hill, she realizes something darker has always been watching.

The Espinal family magic was buried generations ago-forced into silence by Salvador, the ancestor who bound their power for himself. Now his ghost feeds on fear and doubt, and Marisol is his next target. To survive, she must reclaim her heritage, unearth the truth hidden in her mother’s journal, and face the hill that has been waiting for her all along.

Atmospheric and emotionally charged, The Ordinary Bruja blends generational trauma, identity reclamation, and queer love with a creeping sense of dread. Perfect for fans of The Inheritance of Orquídea Divina and Mexican Gothic, this novel asks: What does it cost to embrace every part of yourself-even the parts the world taught you to bury?

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Kobo

“Ten months since she had dropped out and came home, to the place she promised herself she’d never return to. She was bad at keeping promises. That was for sure.”

PRAISE for The Ordinary Bruja

“There is spirituality, magic, ghosts, there is plenty of love, there is loss; and above all there is familia, both genetic and of choice.”

“…An impactful horror story that blew me away.”

“This book . . .  pushed me to confront my own assumptions about history.”

“You can absolutely feel the anguish Marisol feels at the loss of her mother.”

“I absolutely enjoyed “The Ordinary Bruja”. It was a perfect mix between horror (with a slight humor – thank you early Marisol and her “nope” moments + Kia) and a story that shows you that you need to find your own way, even if everything is pushing you down.”

My Review:

Whispers from Beyond is the second installment in Hash Black’s Mr. Stenson's Phone Short Story Series. I was captivated by the narrative right from the opening page, as I found it hard to fathom the nature of Hailey’s boss and the type of person she is. She is a cruel and unpleasant individual, her speech filled solely with harsh and spiteful remarks that constantly demean those around her, particularly Hailey.

Hailey remains silent, her gaze cast downward, never responding in kind. Naturally, she harbors some negative thoughts about what she wishes could befall her boss. But who can really blame her or anyone else for that matter, given that this woman is truly wicked and despicable?

Yet, I can’t help but ponder, does Hailey’s boss genuinely mean what she says, or is she merely concealing a profound pain from her past? What lies within her heart? Is she simply trying to mask the fact that she actually cares for Hailey?

Whispers from Beyond unfolds as a deeply unsettling and grim tale of a woman who finally reaches her breaking point due to her boss's constant mistreatment and schemes her revenge with the aid of a mysterious black phone.

Get your copy of Whispers from Beyond today and accompany Hailey on her quest for vengeance!
