A festive house party. A shocking murder. And secrets that could destroy everything Lady Theodora holds dear.

When Lady Theodora Ashcombe returns to her family's estate for Christmas, she expects nothing more taxing than navigating her aunt's matchmaking schemes and enduring awkward encounters with two very different men who both seem determined to complicate her life.

But when a body is discovered beneath the Christmas tree on the first night of the house party, the festivities turn deadly.

The victim is a man no one admits to knowing—yet someone at Ashcombe Park wanted him dead badly enough to kill him in front of a houseful of witnesses. With a forged invitation in his pocket and a locket containing a photograph of Theodora's late mother, the mystery becomes devastatingly personal.

Trapped by a snowstorm with a killer among the guests, Theodora must unravel:

  • Why a man supposedly dead for fifteen years appeared at her family's Christmas celebration

  • What scandalous secrets from her mother's past someone would kill to protect

  • Which of the elegant guests hiding in plain sight is a murderer

With her loyal maid Bea and her clever spaniel Pip at her side, Theodora races to expose the truth. But when she's attacked in the dead of night, she realizes this investigation is more dangerous than any she's faced before.

Inspector Hargrave wants to protect her. Her rakish ex-fiancé Jasper wants to help her. And the vicar's earnest son wants to marry her. But what Theodora wants is justice—even if pursuing it means confronting painful truths about her own family.

Because some secrets are worth killing for. And some mysteries hit far too close to home.

Perfect for fans of Tasha Alexander, Deanna Raybourn, and classic Agatha Christie, THE CASE OF THE CHRISTMAS CORPSE is a delightful Victorian cozy mystery with a sharp-witted sleuth, a loyal spaniel, and enough romantic tension to warm even the coldest winter night.

My Review:

Theo returns home for Christmas, but her family's house is filled with unsettling mysteries. To her surprise, she discovers the body of a man who has been dead for 15 years hidden under the Christmas tree.

This shocking find uncovers a hidden past involving Theo's mother, and Theo finds herself trapped in a house with a thief and a murderer. Determined to uncover the truth, Theo must work quickly to figure out why this uninvited man is there and what he knows about her mother, all while fending off threats to her own safety.

What was meant to be a joyful holiday gathering turns into a suspenseful quest to solve a perplexing mystery from the past. Theo's Christmas homecoming has become a high-stakes adventure filled with ghosts, secrets, and danger.

The Case of the Christmas Corpse captivated me with its intriguing mysteries. Someone was determined to keep these secrets hidden, even if it meant taking a life.

As I delved into the story, I became increasingly curious about the unknown man found under the tree. Who was he, and how was he connected to the protagonist, Theo? The allure of unraveling these puzzles kept me engaged throughout the narrative.

If you're in the mood for an engaging mystery, I highly recommend checking out The Case of the Christmas Corpse.

Teaser + #Giveaway: The Love of a Dog by Jo McCauley Prouty @RABTBookTours

A Chronicle of a Remarkable Retriever

Memoir/Love, Black Lab, Dog

Date Published: 02-14-2023

The decision to get a dog becomes a journey from high expectations through the reality of care giving and the fun of companionship to enduring love and finally loss. Dog lovers will see themselves and remember their beloved canine friends. They will wish they had known Tasha as they read about this quirky dog and her love of family and fun. Readers can applaud the transforming power of love.

Excerpt

Typically, I put mulch down in the spring, but I also use mulch to prepare for winter. However, not all mulch is equal when it comes to dogs.

I am the queen of mulch. I used it abundantly to discourage weeds and hold moisture in the soil, and to protect roots during winter. I had a preference for cocoa bean mulch, which had a delectable aroma. A neighbor at our previous home came out one day while I was spreading it and said, “Oh, I thought you were baking brownies.” That’s how good it smells!

I had been thoughtless. The cocoa bean is just as toxic for dogs as chocolate. Mulch covered the flower beds in the backyard where Tasha played. “Tasha,” I lectured, “you are not to touch this mulch under any circumstance. Never, never, never touch the mulch.”

 You’re overreacting, Mom.

I’m not sure how she interpreted “mulch,” but not only did she never touch the mulch, she never put a paw in any flower bed or touch even a petunia or marigold. She kept me company when I worked in the yard, and much later, I found it difficult to garden without my furry assistant.

My Review:

Join Mike and Maddie on vacation, where they attend the book launch of a friend. When the lights go out, the first edition of the book goes missing. The author, Rachel, was planning on auctioning the book off at the signing for charity.

Why not join them as they navigate a corn maze, where they witness a startling turn of events – the sudden demise of the headless horseman. Naturally, our intrepid duo is compelled to unravel the mystery, sifting through potential suspects and unearthing clues.

Or maybe you would like to join them on a double date. Mike and Maddie witness a shocking event – a food critic at a nearby table suddenly collapses, seemingly poisoned. With a restaurant full of potential suspects, Mike and Maddie must race against time to solve the mystery before the killer strikes again. Trapped inside due to a raging snowstorm, they must use their keen detective skills to uncover the truth.

How about taking a trip to the Big Apple? Maddie and her boyfriend Ben take a trip to New York to meet Ben’s publisher. Things soon turn deadly when Ben’s publisher, Veronica, is found dead in their hotel room. Maddie quickly becomes a person of interest in the case. Mike joins Ben and Maddie to help them clear her name.

Or maybe you would like to go to a book sale? Mike visits a book sale with Maddie. A rare, annotated copy of a cult classic that belonged to its late creator, Francis Fitzcott, is found by Maddie. Maddie discovers a message inside the book after buying it, which may provide evidence that the author's death was not accidental after all.

Every book in the Mike and Maddie Mysteries has been enjoyable to read, and I am sorry to see it come to a conclusion. Every book is a fantastic read in its own unique way, with several twists and turns that kept the pages turning and numerous secrets that someone constantly desired to remain that way and was prepared to pay a price to do so.

If you're a lover of mystery and suspense, be sure to pick up a copy of Mike and Maddie Mysteries Volume 2 – you won't be able to put it down!
