I AM Alive: I am not my heart rate. I am not my skills. I am not how I look like. My name is Decca Tenderstone. I live in a future America where teenagers are ranked on a scale from 1 to 10 on graduation day. There has never been a 10. Those below the rank of 5 are considered Monsters, a liability to society. The system says I am a Monster. I will not let them kill me. I will survive.

Initiation: Being a Vampire is a crime punishable by eternal servitude in the arena as a Gladiator of the Iron Gate. Mira, a newly turned vampire, must prove she has what it takes to survive in the human's world. It's kill or be killed. Immortality is not guaranteed.

Dissension: In the aftermath of the great cataclysm, vampires are enslaved by humans and used for blood sport as gladiators in the arena. Mira is undefeated, uncompromising, and unbreakable, but when an escape attempt leads her into the path of the city's Regent, her destiny is changed forever.

Finding Hope: After the death of the one person he called mother, Elei leaves the Trashlands of Ost for the city - looking for other people and for answers. But he soon finds out that people are complicated and answers hard to come by…

Rex Rising: In a world where parasites create new human races, Elei leads a peaceful life as aircar driver - until a mysterious attack on his boss sends him fleeing with a bullet in his side and the fleet at his heels.

Resonant: As the first days of the end of humanity tumble across the City of Las Vegas, turning everyone into vampire-like creatures, April Tate will find out what it really means to survive.

Reign of Blood: April Tate is a seventeen-year-old ferocious vampire killer who lives in the remains of Las Vegas one year after a viral epidemic has left the world decimated. After her family is abducted, her world tilts when she discovers they're not truly alone.

Released: After a demon apocalypse kills everyone they know, 17-year old Abby Phillips, her brother and her friend Max flee their home to travel through the wastelands of America, chasing a radio transmissions of a resistance offering shelter. But soon enough Abby and her companions discover what awaits them is much worse they could have ever imagined.

My Review:

I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

I don't normally read box sets but when I saw Shades of Chaos I knew I had to read this one. It has a book in a lot of deferent genres that I love. It has Dystopian, Apocalyptic, Post-Apocalyptic, Aliens, Vampires, Demons and Monsters. Most of the characters are fighting to stay alive or survive in one way or another.

In I Am Alive teenagers are rated on a scale from 1 - 10. Everybody wants to be a 10 and is raised from birth to be the best that they can be and hopefully they will be a 10. When it is time for Decca to be rated the system says she is a monster and monsters are considered a nuisance and a burden to society and will always be below their standard of expectations and must fight for their right to live.

Initiation and Dissension are about vampires becoming slaves to humans. The humans keep the vampires locked up in a dungeon like place. If the vampires don't do what they are told or don't follow the rules then they are punished in a horrible way. Each human that owns a vampire fight them against other vampires. They are trained to fight to the death. Poor Mira hates being a slave and being locked up all the time. She is a very head strong woman and will never stop trying to get away.

Finding Hope and Rex Rising is about Elei who was infected with two parasites when he was a little boy. He grew up with these two parasites fighting each other inside of him each wanting to control the other. Elei is a very lucky person to have survived the parasites inside of him because to most they are deadly. After the rough life that he has lived Elei finally got him a break. He got a job driving an aircar. Elei was happy with his new job and his boss for a while until one day his boss is killed and after witnessing her death Elei flees the scene with a bullet in his side, running for his life. Whoever killed his boss is now chasing after Elei. They want something from Elei that he knows nothing about. He has no clue what it is they want.

I didn't read Resonant or Reign of Blood and it wasn't because I didn't want to. It was only because I read and reviewed them a few months ago. I loved reading about the vampires in April Tate's world and about her little brother and all of her new friends that she met while living in Las Vegas before and after the apocalypse. April was a very strong girl who knew how to fight the zompires and was always or at least most of the time aware of what was going on around her which helped her a lot in beating the zompires.

In Released Abby, her brother, Carter and their friend Max all leave their home on a journey across the wastelands of America after demons have taken over their world and have killed their families and all of their friends; so after hearing on the radio about a group of people that are offering a safe place to stay so they head out on their journey and run into all kinds of dangerous things along the way.

I have truly enjoyed reading all of the books in Shades of Chaos and am very grateful that I had this opportunity to read them. I love dystopia and apocalyptic books with vampires, zombies or zompires in them. If you love reading them too then this box set is for you. I highly recommend each and every book in the set. I plan on writing reviews for each book separately at a later date.

Fairy, Texas (Fairy, Texas #1)
Release Date: 02/06/14

Summary from Goodreads:
Laney Harris thinks there might be monsters in Fairy, Texas.

She's right.

When her mother remarried and moved them to a town where a date meant hanging out at the Sonic, Laney figured that "boring" would have a whole new meaning. A new stepsister who despised her and a high school where she was the only topic of gossip were bad enough. But when she met the school counselor (and his terminal bad breath), she grew suspicious. Especially since he had wings that only she could see. And then there were Josh and Mason, two gorgeous glimmering-eyed classmates whose interest in her might not be for the reasons she hoped. Not to mention that dead guy she nearly tripped over in gym class.

Boring takes on an entirely new dimension in Fairy, Texas.

If she's going to survive in this small town, she'll have to learn to wing it.

Excerpt:
I was partnered with Mason Collier, the infamous football-playing, cute, but possibly black-magicky friend-of-Bartlef I'd heard about at lunch. I looked around and saw a guy waving at me from across the room. He was looking at me kind of like he was hungry and maybe I was breakfast. It worried me.

Still, at least I hadn't been paired up with Kayla. It could have been much worse.

"Okay," Carlson said. "Go ahead and meet with your partner and plan your strategy."

Mason and I stood up at the same time and walked toward each other. I was so busy making sure I didn't trip over any desks that I didn't see Kayla headed toward me until she was right in front of me. And then she leaned in close to my face and hissed at me. "Don't get too cozy. He's way out of your league."

I rolled my eyes and moved around her without responding. Three days. Three days I'd been in Fairy, and already I had an enemy. And I lived in her house. My life kept getting better and better.

Mason and I met in the middle of the room. Kayla and her friends huddled nearby, watching us.

"Hey," Mason said.

"Hey." Nice, neutral word, hey. Can mean almost anything. Or nothing.

"So," he said, "where do you want to start?"

He was asking me? Where I wanted to start was away from here, where there weren't any dead boys to trip over.

So much for that option.

Life can suck…

When reality becomes overwhelming, seeking comfort in fictional fantasies keeps hope alive.  And while this escape may be a little delusional, it's also therapeutic.

Sharing secrets is daunting, but virtual friends don't often judge and they are always ready to share a glass of wine…or three…while typing out life's latest endeavors.

Brooke believes obstacles only add to romance, not detract. Rachael longs for a more intense relationship, or so she thinks. Lizzie misses the excitement in her life, but sometimes new situations find you when you're not even looking. And Jess believes a tiger can change his stripes. It can't.

Bound by a shared passion for blogging about happily ever afters, these four young women use keyboard therapy to work through their expectations, anxieties, and inadequacies, all with the hopes of achieving the perfection found in romance novels.

Completely blinded by what they think life should be, they navigate their unique paths in search of what they envision is right. But when reality taunts them with persistent curve balls, will they be strong enough to choose wisely? Or will their happy endings escape them?

EXCERPT

It's not uncommon for people to have two sets of friends. The "real" friends; these are the ones who live nearby, the ones you see or talk with occasionally (less and less as time goes on). Then there are the "virtual" friends; these are the ones you talk to (well, type to) every day. The latter group comes from all over. You've never actually met any of them and yet you trust them with some of the deepest, most intimate thoughts and details of your life. You share way too much information and in return, they over-share way too much back.
On Brooke Bloomfield's twenty-third birthday, she went to lunch with her real life best friend, Lauren. The two girls had a very nice time. They gossiped in between chews, catching up, because even though they lived only ten minutes away from each other, they still hadn't seen each other in quite some time. When the bill came, Lauren grabbed it, insisting she treat Brooke on her special day. They hugged goodbye at their cars and promised to meet for lunch or a drink soon.
Later that same night, Brooke let loose and celebrated her birthday in a much more exciting way, at a computer-generated party with her three online BF's, Rachael-XXOO, Lizzie1214, and JessRomance93. In a relatively short time, all three of these girls had come to know more about Brooke than anyone else.
Similar tastes in books kept connecting them through book tours and blitzes. Comments on posts and reviews turned into discussions over emails. Tweets bounced back and forth between the four of them endlessly, until one day they discovered a social website designed for readers, where they could all chat privately amongst themselves. Within no time, their virtual discussions went from benign topics such as books they all loved, hated and/or felt somewhere in between, to a hell of a lot more serious things.
It's funny the things a person will share with people they don't actually have to face. Like a diary into which they feed their emotions and it types back.

ReaderGirlBrooke: Hey guys!
Lizzie1214: Wine is open. Time to celebrate!! The big two-three!
JessRomance93: Hey, birthday girl! I just opened a beer. Does everyone have a drink now?
Rachael-XXOO: Got mine. Happy Birthday Brookey!!!  Did you get the pic of Preston's package all wrapped up in a bow?
ReaderGirlBrooke: Thanks guys. I just poured a glass of red. Yes, Rachael - great pic! *blushes
Rachael-XXOO: You're not blushing. You love it. I'm sure you saved it with all the other dirty pics I send you.
Rachael-XXOO: By the way, did you guys finish Fix My Heart yet? I'm only 45% in.
ReaderGirlBrooke: Yes!! Loved! Five stars. A guy exactly like Grant is what I wished for when I blew out my birthday candles today at lunch.
Lizzie1214: I gave it five stars, too.
JessRomance93: It was good. Meh. Three stars.
ReaderGirlBrooke: Jess, are you serious? Only three stars? How did you not fall in love with Grant? He was perfect!
JessRomance93: Yeah, Grant was perfect. But a little too perfect, don't ya think? Guys like that don't exist.
ReaderGirlBrooke: Are you just saying that because of you-know-who?
JessRomance93: This has nothing to do with that asshole. I just thought the way Grant rescued Cassandra was a little over the top.
Rachael-XXOO: Um, hello. What part of "I haven't finished yet" did you all not understand? Remember, we don't discuss a book until everyone is done reading.
ReaderGirlBrooke: Sorry! We'll stop. Just make sure to stay away from my blog until you're done reading. My review is getting posted tonight.
Rachael-XXOO: I'm probably reading slower than usual because my own love life has been picking up lately.
JessRomance93: Nice, Rach! Do we get some dirty details later?
ReaderGirlBrooke: Wah! The only love life I have lately requires batteries.
Rachael-XXOO: Yes! I'll give details later. And speaking of dirty details, did you get my special little birthday care package, Brooke?
ReaderGirlBrooke: Yes, but I haven't opened it yet. I figured I'd wait till we were chatting.
Lizzie1214: Open it! Tell us what fun, twisted things Rachael sent you.
Rachael-XXOO: Yeah, go ahead and open it up, birthday girl!
ReaderGirlBrooke: HAAA! I didn't know they made so many things in the shape of a penis. Lollipops, straws, a lipstick, pasta, and a toothbrush! OMG! Where did u find a penis toothbrush?
Rachael-XXOO: I ordered everything online. Do you like the theme??
ReaderGirlBrooke: I love it! Thank you!! I'm taking a pic of everything right now to send you guys.
Lizzie1214: Will you actually eat the pasta and the lollipops? I wonder what they taste like.
JessRomance93: Ew, yuck. What do you think it tastes like?
Rachael-XXOO: Go ahead, Brooke, try a lollipop and tell us if tastes like a pecker.
ReaderGirlBrooke: Yum. It does. ;)
