Blog Tour + #Giveaway: College Life 101: Freshman Orientation by J.B. Vample @JBVample @yaboundtourspr

College Life 101: Freshman Orientation
by
J.B. Vample
Genre: NA Contemporary Fiction
Release Date: December 18th 2015

Summary from Goodreads:

Leaving home for the first time to attend college is stressful enough. But when the roommate lottery of Paradise Valley University strikes, it produces couples who have absolutely nothing in common; causing personality clashes which takes the stress to a whole new level. Dismay hits Sidra Howard, the prim and proper princess, when she contemplates spending an entire semester with Chasity Parker, the troubled beauty with a sharp tongue and even sharper claws. Malajia Simmons, a boy crazed, attention seeking diva, is no happier. Not only does she get stuck with the upper bunk bed, she has to share a triple room with Alexandra Chisolm, a nosey and overbearing, self proclaimed “know-it-all”. But even the meddling Alexandra isn’t as bad as Emily Harris, the shy, mommy’s girl with a non-existent backbone.

Coming to college to escape her home life, Chasity hopes to get through the semester without any problems. Her hopes are tainted once she begins to have to resist the advances of a determined football star, on top of dealing with family drama which seems to have followed her. Alexandra’s need to fix everyone’s problems not only rubs her roommates the wrong way, it also causes her to fall blind to the problems brewing with the boyfriend that she left behind. Eventually she’ll be forced to face the issues head on. Emily’s refusal to come out of her shell is too much to handle for party girl Malajia, whose main purpose is to have fun and be seen. The same doesn’t apply to Sidra, who’s more concerned with trying to keep her over-the-top stress level under control.

These five young women try to handle family drama, pressure, and conflicts; all while trying to maintain their grades. They quickly learn that college life isn’t what they expected and must adapt to their new environment if they ever hope to make it through their first semester.

Interview with J.B. Vample

What inspired you to write (College Life 101: Freshman Orientation)?

The idea for this book, and ultimately the series came to me while I was in high school. I was a senior and was months away from going to college. I started thinking about what type of people I could meet, what scenarios could take place; and from there, I created character names, gave them characteristics, personalities and just started creating. Knowing that I would soon be in the place that my characters were, and the anticipation of my soon-to-be life as a college student, is what inspired me to write this. This is a character driven series, so through each book, the characters develop a little more. You learn a little more about what makes them who they are. There is plenty of drama and humor.

Can you tell us a little bit about the next books in (The College Life Series) or what you have planned for the future?

The series will be nine books in total, with the first eight books taking place during the characters’ college years and the ninth book following them about five years after their graduation. The next two books of the series are also published, “College Life 102: Social Learning” which takes place during semester two of their freshman year, and “College Life 201: Sophomore Studies” starts their sophomore year.

Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in (College Life 101: Freshman Orientation)?

There are five main characters in this series. Five black woman, who are so different in appearance and personality. Chasity Parker is a feisty sharp-tongued girl who most people are afraid of. Her words alone can tear a person's feelings apart. But what people don't realize is that Chasity is angry because of how she was brought up. Having a mother who hated her and a father who ignored her, turned her from a loving child to an angry, guarded young woman. What's special about her, is that under her tough exterior is a caring person who just wants to be loved and accepted like everyone else.

Malajia Simmons, is the loud, silly, boy-crazed party girl. The girl loves attention, and her need for it comes from being the middle child of seven girls. She certainly gets it due to her outgoing, flirty personality and barely-there clothing. But she soon realizes as her journey goes on, that not all attention is good attention. And she learns that she must change how she comes off, if anybody is ever going to take her seriously. The special thing about Malajia is that although her exterior seems shallow, she has a big heart and will go to bat for her friends at the drop of a dime.

Sidra Howard, the prim princess with the business attire and neat up-dos, initially comes off as snobby, despite her use of manners and her polite persona. Being the butt of jokes because of her wardrobe, reserved presence and usage of proper words, never bothered Sidra. What will send her over the edge is stress, and blatant disrespect. Sidra has a side to her that rears it's ugly head when pushed to the limit. What's special about Sidra is her ability to be the calming, pacifying voice among her friends.

Alexandra Chisolm (Alex), being the oldest child in her family, has a "mothering" personality. Her need to be in everyone's business, and her need to fix problems for everyone but herself, lands her in a lot of hot water. What Alex doesn't realize is that not everyone needs another mother, and that not everybody handles their problems the same way. Alex learns that the person she needs to focus most on, is herself. The special thing about Alex is that she genuinely loves her circle of friends, and no matter how she comes off, she has their best interest at heart.

Emily Harris is shy, quiet and a total mommy's girl. So much so, that her mother seems to control her even when she's not around. Emily's meek personality, her bad wardrobe, and her inability to stand up for herself, makes her the most unlike-able character in the very beginning. But the events that she goes through, helps her discover her voice and her backbone. The special thing about Emily is that deep down, she knows that her strength is there, she just needs a way to find it.

You know I think we all have a favorite author. Who is your favorite author and why?

I would say at this time, that my favorite author is Rochelle Alers. She wrote this great romance series called “The Hideaway series” that I love.

If you could time-travel would you travel to the future or the past? Where would you like to go and why would you like to visit this particular time period?

If I could travel to the past, I would go back to certain times in my childhood because of the memories that were forged during that time. Those are times that I miss.

Do you have any little fuzzy friends? Like a dog or a cat? Or any pets?

Yes, I have one temperamental, two faced cat and her name is Sarabi. I’ve had her since she was a baby.

Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to visit with us today.

You’re welcome, and thank you for having me.

Book Blitz + #Giveaway: Bad Nanny by C.M. Stunich @CMStunich @XpressoTours

Bad Nanny
C.M. Stunich
(The Bad Nanny Trilogy #1)
Publication date: November 22nd 2016
Genres: Comedy, New Adult, Romance

“He’s a bad boy … and a nanny.”

Holy sweet baby Jesus.

I don’t know anything about taking care of kids.
I pierce nipples, navels, and noses for a living.
I’ve never even held a baby before. Not once. Never changed a diaper or cleaned up a skinned knee. Hell, I don’t even want kids. I’m more of a drifter, a once in a lifetime lover, and then I move on.
Family? Commitment? Nuh uh, no way.

Tough sh*t, though, because my brother and his kids need me. Desperately.
I never thought to wonder if I might need them, too.
That I might need her, this strange woman I met at a playground.
Brooke Overland.
She doesn’t know I’m not a professional nanny, but what am I supposed to do now?

She hired me; I took care of her sister’s kids for her; I f*cked her.
My life is so screwed-up.

EXCERPT:

“He’s just a study partner. I met the guy like three days ago.”

Zayden shrugs his sexy shoulders at me.

“So?” He grins at me. “You also met me three days ago.” I purse my lips at him and give the hairless cat a scratch near the base of his tail. His sweater today is red with a black guitar on the back. It’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen in my life.

“Five. And I don’t exactly make a habit of sleeping around. Virgin, remember.”

“Um, not a virgin anymore,” Zay says with a massive grin that I pretend I don’t find at all charming.
The thing is, he’s super charming. Crazy charismatic. It scares me a little to be honest. I almost wish he was more of a dick. “Anyway, that guy has ulterior motives. Big time. I can smell it.”

“Like you don’t?” I ask with a laugh as Zay moves around the couch and gets up close and personal with me. I’m not even sure he realizes he does that, gets up in other people’s personal space like that.

“I never tried to pretend I didn’t. See, that’s the difference between that guy and me. I’m telling you exactly what it is that I want.”

“Which is?”

“Well, of course, it’s you, Smarty-Pants.”

I take a step back, but Zay follows me in, pausing for a moment as the baby gurgles and then sighs softly in sleep. My heart is pumping furiously, my body tingling as I feel the warmth rolling off of him. I can still remember the way it draped across me, that heat, that hard hot body. I suck in a breath.

“I thought you said this was a casual, no strings attached sort of a deal?” Zay grins and brushes some hair away from my face with his tattooed hand.

“It is. Look, this is a perfect arrangement, don’t you think? You can experiment with me, get all those virgin mistakes out of the way early on, and then in a week and a half, I’ll be gone. Boom. Back to Vegas, baby. No worries at all, no awkwardness, no crossing paths.”

I narrow my eyes at him, but inside, I’m going completely crazy. I can feel butterflies and tingles and this weird sort of buzzing that I’ve never felt before. I guess I’m having some kind of … sexual awakening or something. I feel hot and squirmy with need. I’m aware it’s all basic human chemistry and hormones and pheromones and all of that … but damn.

“You’re offering to … teach me or something?”

Zay snaps his fingers and leans in close, the piercings on his face winking at me in the weak sunshine.

“Yeah, sure, why not? What do you have to lose?”

Schooling the Viscount: Cotswold Confidential #1
by Maggie Robinson
GENRE: Historical Romance

BLURB:

Welcome to Puddling on the Wold, where the sons and daughters of Victorian nobility come for a little rest, recuperation, and “rehab,” in this brand-new series of rebellious romance from Maggie Robinson.

After a harrowing tour of duty abroad, Captain Lord Henry Challoner fought to keep his memories at bay with two of his preferred vices: liquor and ladies. But the gin did more harm than good—as did Henry’s romantic entanglements, since he was supposed to be finding a suitable bride. Next stop: The tiny village of Gloucestershire, where Henry can finally sober up without distraction or temptation. Or so he thinks…

A simple country schoolteacher, Rachel Everett was never meant to cross paths with a gentleman such as Henry. What could such a worldly man ever see in her? As it turns out, everything. Beautiful, fiercely intelligent Rachel is Henry’s dream woman—and wife. Such a match would be scandalous for his family of course, and Rachel has no business meddling with a resident at the famed, rather draconian, Puddling Rehabilitation Foundation. All the better, for two lost souls with nothing to lose—and oh so very much to gain.

Excerpt:

Schooling the Viscount

“Quite right. I haven’t the best reputation. A sensible girl like you is wise to be wary. See, that’s why I want to marry you. You’re sensible.”

Rachel curbed the urge to throw her inkpot at him. She didn’t want to be sensible at the moment! But really, of course Henry didn’t love her. She didn’t love him either. She hardly knew him, and she wasn’t even supposed to know as much as she did. She’d be getting a visit from members of the Puddling Rehabilitation Foundation any second to accuse her of sabotage.

Someone would have noticed him walking down the hill to the school on such a filthy day, and would blame her for being some sort of Circe. Unless he was planning on plunging into the stream and getting even wetter, the school as the final destination.

She stood up. “While I am grateful for both your offer of escort and of marriage, I must decline both. Good day, Lord Challoner.”

He rose too, with a blinding smile. “At least take my umbrella.”

“Did you hear me?” Rachel cried.

“Yes. I have my good ear turned toward you. And I’m getting better at reading lips. Of course, when I look at yours, I forget what you’re saying and just want to kiss you.”

Well, that was almost romantic. Rachel tried not to feel a pleased flutter.

“I insist you take the umbrella.” Henry propped it against her desk. “I assume you don’t wish to be seen with me.”

“You assume correctly.”

“Very well. Shall I leave first?”

“Don’t you have a hat?”

“No, I hate them.”

Blast. He would be soaked by the time he climbed back up the hill.

He was probably used to marching in the rain. Beneath the scorching sun. Under conditions in countries she couldn’t even fathom or find on a map. It wasn’t as if it was an Indian monsoon out there—just a heavy warm English rain. Rachel had not been looking forward to it herself, but hadn’t been afraid to brave the elements. Why should she worry about a strong, healthy man?

Yet she did. She’d worried last night when she’d left him unconscious in the cool night air. Henry needed someone to take care of him. Care for him.

No, Rachel. No. But she picked up the umbrella and took hold of his arm, ignoring the warning voice in her head. Sometimes being sensible was overrated.

Maggie Robinson

Maggie Robinson didn’t know she wanted to write until she woke up in the middle of the night once really annoyed with her husband. Instead of smothering him with a pillow, she decided to get up and write—to create the perfect man—at least on a computer screen. Only to discover that fictional males can be just as resistant to direction as her husband. The upside is that she’s finally using her English degree and is still married to her original, imperfect hero. Since she’s imperfect, too, that makes them a perfect match. Until her midnight keyboarding, she had been a teacher, librarian, newspaper reporter, administrative assistant to two non-profits, community volunteer, and mother of four in seven different states. Love has never been Cheryl Brigham’s plan. She’s not cut out for second dates, relationships, or happily ever afters.

All that changes when she’s on vacation in Paris. First dates lead to second dates, which leads to a whole lot more than she ever bargained for—but she knows it's all over when she returns home. That’s okay with her.

Until it’s not.

When it’s no-strings-attached, what will Cheryl do when her heart gets tangled up?

I’ve heard it said that vampire romances are over.

Teenage, angsty vampires that sparkle in the sun, sure. Those can be so over, put a stake in their hearts, chop off their heads, throw water on them—whatever we can do to make them die a horrible, grisly vampire death.

No, seriously. Don’t. (Down vampire hunters, down.)

Judgments about the story, the characters, and writing (and believe me, I’ve heard it all) about Twilight, I think it ushered in the era of the paranormal romance.

It’s always been there. People have been writing about vampires (Anne Rice, anyone?), shifters, and other paranormal creatures forever. I think, though, we can actually thank Anne Rice and Stephenie

Meyer for making it more mainstream.

Mainstream does not equal bad or sell-out either.

It means making it more accessible to those who would normally look at a paranormal and toss it on the floor as if it were the devil itself.

Has paranormal peaked? I certainly hope not, considering I write it!

Peak or no, there will always be a place for it. (Hear me out.)

We, as a whole, turn to fiction as a means to escape. It’s the very reason we love books, movies, television shows—they transport us somewhere else, anywhere else. For a brief time, our problems are not our own and instead we’re taking that ride with Louis and Lestat, Edward and Bella, or heck, even my Sera and Cheryl.

Paranormal has the unique ability to take that entire escapism a step further. It’s fun to imagine a world where these things are possibilities, a world where magic, vampires, shifters, or angels exist. With all the problems facing the world today, who doesn’t want to escape into another world? I know that’s one of the reasons I like to write it so much. I like tiptoeing around this world I created where my characters can fly; can hold out her hand and take someone’s life; can touch a stranger with grace and change that person’s life forever.

Of all the paranormal creatures out there, why did I choose angels? I get this question. A lot.

Truth be told, I didn’t choose angels. Angels chose me. Virtue of Death was going to be contemporary. No, really. I decided to give her an angel wing back tattoo, and then I said, “Well, what if she really was an angel?” Thus, my entire outlook—on the book, on my career, on everything—changed. (For the better, I think.)

Is it a challenge? Absolutely. But I love it for several reasons.

One, it’s not common. Who wants to do something everyone else has done? I pride myself on walking to beat of my own drummer, out of rhythm though that may be.

Two, it was a challenge. It still is a challenge. Being one of the lesser used paranormal creatures, I had a little bit of leeway with the way I wanted to handle them. (Case in point: my angels don’t have feathers! I was adamant about that. My creatures, my rules.) But I also run into religion. A lot of it.
That’s not to say there’s anything wrong with religion. However, how much of it do I want to keep, and how much do I want to fictionalize? How do I write angels without any major religious overtones? (My answer: take everything you knew about angels and throw it out the window.)

In October, I was at a convention and people would pick up Virtue of Death, compliment the cover (as well they should, it’s gorgeous), and then ask what it was about. With each sentence in my elevator pitch they’d step farther and farther away, “she’s going to hell” painted on their face. (Sometimes I forget I live in the Bible belt. Oops.)

Three, why not?

My mom has read both Earthbound Angels books, and the first thing she said to me after reading Virtue of Death was “You’re going to pay for how you wrote Gabriel.”

*shrug*

I’m not scared.

After all. It’s just fiction. Just escapism, and we all need that. Probably even Gabriel.

Cover Reveal + #Giveaway: Blindsided by Ava Ashley @AuthorAvaAshley @XpressoTours

Blindsided
Ava Ashley
Publication date: March 6th 2017
Genres: Adult, Romance, Sports

One night, two men and a parting gift…

I’ve always wanted to scoop the hot stories, not become one of them. But that’s exactly what happened after I spent a hot and steamy night with bad-boy football star Lennox Hardy. Just a one-night stand and move on, right? Wrong. Now I’m carrying his baby and my life just fell apart. But the worst thing?

Lennox had nothing to do with it.

Suddenly, I’m not dealing with just one man, there are TWO! One who doesn’t give a damn about anyone but himself and another who always fixes his brother’s mistakes.

One night, twin brothers and whole lot of secrets and drama. Things can’t get any more complicated than this, right? Yeah, that’s what I thought too… until I fell in love with one of them.

Damn… what's a girl to do now?

EXCERPT:

Carefully, I slip out from under the covers and drop to my knees on the floor. Maybe I can find some sort of evidence before he wakes up. Something that will appease Giselle, but not something that could hurt Lennox in any kind of way. I slowly turn and start to crawl away from the bed. Lennox rustles behind me. I freeze. I dare a slow head turn in his general direction.

The rise and fall of his chest is steady. Even. Rhythmic. A peaceful, contented smile curls along the edges of his mouth. For a half a second, I take a little bit of pride that I may be at least partially responsible for putting it there. He has one arm crooked, hand tucked beneath a tousled mop of sheepdog blonde. Long, golden lashes brush his high cheekbones as he sleeps undisturbed.

I exhale a heavy, but quiet, sigh of relief and continue my subtle egress. I get halfway across the room when I freeze in my tracks.

What am I doing? This isn’t me! What are you going to do? Dig through his trash? Root through his mail?

On hands and knees in the middle of the floor, I start to give myself a well-deserved mental ass chewing.

“Well, now there’s a position I could get used to.” Lennox’s voice teases in a sleepy drawl behind me. My head droops in embarrassment.

Lennox yawned like lion as he stretched his toned arms over his head. “So, I’ve heard of the ‘walk of shame’, but I gotta admit. I’ve never seen a ‘crawl of shame.’ Where are you off to?”

Alright, Sloane. Suck it up.
