Author, Casey Griffin's thoughts on the cover:

Talk about punch! The colors immediately grab my eye and the font is so fun and unruly. I feel like the combination of those two things makes the cover of Secrets of a Reluctant Princess striking. With the simple yet powerful design, I think it will scream out from the bookshelf "pick me!" Or maybe that's just because I love pink. And glitter? What's not to love? I'm so happy with the results.

Review: I, Bathory, Queen of Blood by Carole Gill @carolelynngill

I, Bathory, Queen of Blood
by Carole Gill
Published August 6, 2016
Publisher: Creativia
Genre: Horror, Paranormal, Vampires, Fantasy, Dark Fantasy

Blurb:

In present day New York, a woman is writing her memoirs...

Born in 16th century Hungary, Damita wasn't always known by her current name. A human monster with absolute power, she murdered and tortured for pleasure.

After her confrontation with Darvulia, she thought that blood could reverse any sign of aging. And in her death, she was raised by her vampire lover, Anton.

Spanning centuries and concluding in modern day, this is the story of Damita, previously known as Erzsebet Bathory - The Blood Countess.

Excerpt:

“Bathory, now an immortal vampire, has existed for centuries. In modern day New York, she and her lover and creator, Anton, own clubs that offer unusual entertainments. After World War 2 vampirism was made legal. This excerpt concerns an interview at her club:

I was to interview new performers for our blood club. You had already interviewed them. I was pleased for I knew if they got past you, they would be suitable. They looked attractive. Full-lipped and sensual, both of them. They greeted me respectfully, which I liked. “You wish to work here?” I asked. They did. “You must be up to it.”

“We are,” they assured me, speaking in unison. I invited them to perform an audition.

“There is a girl waiting. She knows what is expected.” Then, glancing at you, I smiled. When you smiled back, I knew it was going to be a successful audition. The girl was lying on the bed, naked, patiently waiting. We sat at a table. “You may begin,” I spoke pleasantly, and not with the tone of an order, which in reality it was.

After a few moments, our applicants appeared. I was pleased they’d shed all their clothes. Some vampire actors really are a waste of time. These two weren’t. They were handsome, too. The woman had full breasts, not artificially enlarged but naturally full, which is so much better for our purposes. The man was already erect and holding himself. He was quite endowed, but not too big.

Then, in the most graceful of movements, they fell upon the girl, their hands and mouths moving slowly over her body, paying particular attention to her breasts and the area between her legs. I began to touch myself as I watched, aroused.

You leaned over and whispered, “Je t’aime,” as you reached into my blouse to touch my breast. “Not now,” I said. You sighed to show me how disappointed you were. You are such a manipulator. They would feed now. Some blood oozed out as they bit into the girl’s white flesh. She responded by crying out in a mixture of pain and pleasure. That was good. I made a note. They knew enough to feed gently. She started to tremble and moan but that was because Danielle was always responsive. I had taught her to be; that is, you and I both did. These applicants fed for quite a while. I stood up to catch a better view. We didn’t want something untoward happening.

You realized I was worried and mumbled something that sounded reassuring. They changed places once again; this they did a few times. The feeding had excited them and they were in no rush to finish. I went to make certain Danielle was all right because there was a great deal more blood now. She saw me and smiled. “I feel good,” she said.

I smiled, grateful to have such a professional human performer in our special theater. You were watching us. When I looked up at you and saw your demeanor, I understood. “If you would care to spend the evening with us, Danielle,” I said, “it would be a pleasure to have you. Lucerne will be there.” What a leading comment that was. She was delighted. The two had been lovers for a long time. As for our new performers, they had already been summoned to see you. You would tell them when to report and how they were going to be compensated. As vampires they not only fed pleasurably, but they would be financially compensated..."

NOTE: The novel is written by Bathory to jolt her lover and creator, Anton’s memory. He has gone into a semi unconscious state after one particular horrendous murder.

My Review:

In I, Bathory, Queen of Blood we have the pleasure of meeting and reading the memoirs of Erzsebet Bathory known as The Blood Countess as told in her own words. At a very young age Erzsebet is married to Ferenc Nádasdy who takes her name after they are married as her name is more well-known and higher up than his. They have three girls and two boys before he passes away around the age of forty three.

Erzsebet has an addiction one of which she does try to control but that is one battle that she just can’t seem to get a handle on. You see Erzsebet has a very dark side to her where she likes torturing and killing people while having sex with them at the same time. She also likes taking baths in their blood she believes that it makes her skin look smoother and younger.

When she is finally caught she is locked up behind four walls for her heinous crimes and left there to live out the remaining days of her life. Right before she expires she is rescued by her creator Anton. After he turns her into a vampire Erzsebet continues on with her addiction. At first she tries to keep it secret from Anton but that seems to be impossible.

Anton wants to help Damita (What Anton calls Erzsebet) to gain control over her addiction and he does help her for a while but then it starts all up again. Anton loves Damita so much that he can’t refuse her anything so after the bodies start to pile up he decides to help her get rid of them. He has now become and enabler.

I, Bathory, Queen of Blood is not the first book my Carole Gill that I have read and I hope it won’t be the last. When Carole first contacted me about reading one of her books she told me they were very dark in case I wasn’t up for reading something of that nature well I don’t remember her exact words but I guess that one word will do. I was like ok I love dark, bloody and gory stuff the gorier and bloodier it is the more I like it and you know what Carole did not shock me in the least I loved every minute of it. Actually I could have dealt with it if it had been even bloodier and gorier.

Now I’m not a bad person I wouldn’t even hurt a fly well unless he got in my way or messed with my food that is then I might. The point being how could anyone that couldn’t hurt a fly like something of this nature? Well you know what I can’t answer that but one think I do know and that is that it is ok it is not a problem. But I was born in the horror month maybe that is what it is. Ok, ok enough about me now let me say if you like things of this nature; like a lot of blood, torture, lots of sex and killing then I, Bathory, Queen of Blood is the book for you. Meanwhile more war is in the works between the Fae and the Prince of Hell. The Fae, Druids and Shades all want their lives back and they want to be in control of their own destiny. Will Ari and Fen find a way to escape their impending doom or will they spend the rest of their days locked up?

I have truly loved following Ari and Fen on their magical journey through Vampire Girl to The Midnight Star and now to Silver Flame. Vampire Girl has a mixture of it all with demons, vampires, fae, druids with a few others as well. I can’t decide which one I like the best but I do know one thing they just get better and better. I loved watching Ari and Fen fall in love. I loved when Yami came into the picture. I loved Kayla’s little secret she threw on us. I can’t wait to learn more of Kayla and her little secret as well as her new guy Tavian. And of course there is Ari, Fen and all of his brothers; some of whom I love and some of whom I love to hate. Is that how it is said?

Ok let me say again that this is one amazing series with some amazing characters that are so very loveable. A series and characters that you are guaranteed to fall in love with. Especially Yami and Baron they are so cute and adorable. Have you read any of the books yet? If not what are you waiting for go grab your copy and put it on your TBR list today trust me you don’t want to miss out on this journey. Not only is it magical it is out of this world magical.

Excerpt

"How old were you when you lost your virginity?"
I held back a chuckle. This game of war was starting to get serious. "Sixteen. How about you, Princess?"
She slapped a queen on top of my jack and pulled the pair towards her. "Fourteen."
Fourteen? That was the same age my sister had been when--
"Did you love her?"
"Uh…" She interrupted my thoughts and threw me for a loop with that question. What had we been talking about? Right, virginity. "No. I thought I did at the time. Did you love him?"
"I thought I did at the time but he broke my heart." She tossed a two in my direction and I scooped up the small win.
"What's his name? I'll kill him."
She smiled, her eyes twinkling softly as she met my gaze. "Garret Sothers. He's in Boyd County jail. Protected."
"For now," I said with a wink. We both set down a pair of aces and then proceeded to have a war.
"One, two, three. War!"
"Oh, come on!" she shouted as my other ace kicked her king's ass. I grinned as she settled herself back down and we proceeded to play. "Who broke your heart?"
My dad.
I glanced up, her gaze was down on the cards. Thank God I didn't say that out loud.
"Britney."
"You don't know her last name?"
"I do. Spears. She broke my heart when she started dating that asshole Justin Timberlake."
The front door slammed shut as James and Elly came back inside effectively cutting off Stacy's laughter. I was a little disturbed that I'd forgotten that they had been out there. No doubt James was near frozen. I swallowed back my unease and stood up from the table as they both entered the kitchen. Stacy looked at me with big, worried eyes. I offered her a smile which seemed to ease her tension a bit. She turned her in her chair, her eyes on James.
"So," James said, looking down at his feet. He looked every bit like a little boy who'd just told his mother to go screw herself. "I overreacted a little bit and I'm sorry."
"I forgive you, of course. I'm sorry too, for being such a klutz and ruining your drums."
She nibbled on her lower lip for a moment before she stood up and extended her arms towards him. I felt jealousy burning in my gut as James arms wrapped around her and pulled her body close to his.
"Okay," he said, ending the hug as quickly as it had begun. He stepped back and glanced between all of us. "There is more good news on top of that apology. The roads have been plowed and we are all free to get out of each other's hair.
I felt the snap of disappointment at the news. Stacy was more fun than I thought she'd be sober and although the sexual tension between us was high we were still able to hold a conversation. Perhaps we could make a go of things once my sobriety was under control and steady. I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to try.
I shoved my hands into my jean pockets and nodded. "Awesome. Let's all get showered and then we can go back to the bar.
"Dibs!" James practically pushed Elly out of the way as he ran towards the bathroom. I sighed heavily.
"We're not going to be getting any hot water, are we?" Stacy asked, crossing her arms over her chest.
I shook my head. "No. Probably not."
Elly shrugged innocently. "I already had one. I'm gonna go watch some TV. Wanna join?"
I looked between the two girls who were staring at each other. Stacy shrugged her shoulders. "Sure." And then they both looked at me.
"Uh, yeah, sure."

Book Blast + #Giveaway: Loving a Lawman by Amy Lillard @AmyLillard918 @GoddessFish

Loving a Lawman
by Amy Lillard
GENRE: Contemporary Romance

BLURB:

As cowboys, the Langston brothers of Cattle Creek, Texas, know it can hurt like hell to fall off a horse. But it can hurt even more to fall in love. . . .

Sheriff Seth Langston is head over heels for local wild child Jessie McAllen and has been for years. The trouble is she has eyes only for Seth’s rodeo star brother, Chase. Even though he considers Jessie his girl, Chase is an incorrigible ladies’ man with a wandering eye and no chance of settling down soon.

Jessie is ready to move away from Cattle Creek to put her feelings for Chase behind her, but after she shares a white-hot kiss with Seth, things get a little complicated. Jessie realizes her heart should have been his all along. And in the face of sudden tragedy, they’ll discover if their newfound passion will tear the Langston men apart or make the family stronger than ever. . . .

Excerpt:

Jessie sat at the end of the building farthest from the door. Her breathing had returned to normal and her head was down as she contemplated only heaven knew what. Her hands were braced her on her knees, and her hat was pulled low over her eyes.

Seth didn’t need to see them. He knew what color they were, had memorized it long ago—storm-cloud gray and just as dangerous, with dark rings around their irises that made them look twice as big as they really were and sooty lashes that should have belonged to a brunette.

“Jessie?” he said softly. It was the voice he used when talking to frightened mares and skittish colts and red-haired angels who had fallen from grace.

She didn’t look up, just raised her arms out in front of her, wrists lax, hands dangling, anger spent. “I’ll go peacefully. Just get it over with, Seth. Handcuff me and take me to jail.”
Handcuff her.

Now, there was an image Seth could’ve lived without.

He swallowed hard.

Despite his brother’s tomcat morals, and the fact that he didn’t deserve . . .

Well, despite everything that Chase didn’t deserve, including the sassy redhead, Jessie was Chase’s girl. Always had been. Always would be.

“I just want to talk to you about what happened tonight.”

She dropped her hands back to her lap and shrugged. But he still couldn’t see her face, couldn’t read what was going on inside that pretty little head of hers.

Uh-hum . . . did he say pretty? He’d meant . . . well, he’d meant something else, that was all.
