Taylor Momsen would be great at playing Riley – I’m sure of
that after seeing her performance on Gossip Girl. They have the same build and
hair color, although Riley rarely uses make-up, and Taylor usually does. But
that’s easily fixed.
My Review-
I received a free copy of the book from the author for my
honest review.
Riley is just a sixteen year old girl with some great
friends and family. She finds out that she is half human and half angel. She
has a hard time dealing with it and finding out that her mother may have
cheated on her father and he is not her real dad. She realizes that her mother
could have been raped and she didn't cheat on her dad but she is upset mainly
because the man she grew up with thinking he was dad and now finds out he is
not hurts her so much. He has been a great dad to her and has spent a lot of
time with her where some dads don’t do this they leave the kids to the mother
to deal with especially if they are a girl.
After finding out that she is half angel she has no idea
what to do how to handle it. But she is assigned a mentor an angel to teach and
train her about who she is now and what to do. This angel is all hotness and
when Riley meets him her chin drops to the floor and her tongue comes out and
slaps her brain out.
But she gets herself under control as much as possible that
is. Her angel, Leander tells her that she is an angel of death and her job is
to help people's souls make it to the right place. Leander also helps her with
her new powers that has just awoken.
Riley has three great friends who are always looking out for
her; for her own safety and because they care about her a lot. They all care
about each and will do the same for anyone of their friends. All of her friends
are great people but like all of us they each have their own little perks. They
are always trying to get her to dress up a little especially when they go out
but Riley is just a plain Jane kind of girl and clothes and make up is just not
her thing. But Katie is all for her dressing up more but when she starts dating
this guy at first she won't let them meet him. She wants to keep him all to
herself but after she has been going out with for a while she decides that it
is time to let her friends meet him. But she tells Riley to dress up a little
bit but not too much because she is afraid that her boyfriend will see Riley
and fall in love with her. She doesn't know Riley as well as she thinks or she
would know that Riley is better than that and know she wouldn't take her
boyfriend away from her. undoubtly she thinks Ryley is way prettier than she is
or she wouldn't have this hang up about Riley over dressing around her
boyfriend.
Now her friend Michelle is different she knows and pays more
attention to her. She knows that Riley has changed and confronts her about it.
Michelle is very determined to find out what is going on with her. She cares
about her very much and wants to keep her safe.
Riley has a lot on her plate right now with just finding out
who and what she is along with everyone and everything else in her life that is
happening now. Someone is going around killing teenage girls. Riley and her new
angel friends are going to help her find out who is killing these girls and why.
I loved reading The Soul Thief and learning about the angels
of death and the reapers. I loved the comparison and the difference of the two
and how they balanced each other out. Riley was a great person and I loved how
plain Jane she was. I especially loved Michelle’s personality and her attitude
as well. I loved how she could read Riley and could tell right away if she was
sad, sick or hiding something. The Soul Thief is a must read for anyone who
likes reading about angels, reapers, vampires or just about any kind of
paranormal creature you can think of.
About the Author-
Majanka Verstraete begged her Mom to teach her how to read while she was still in kindergarten. By the time she finished fifth grade, she had read through the entire children's section of her hometown library.
She wrote her first story when she was seven years old, and hasn't stopped writing since. With an imagination that never sleeps, and hundreds of possible book characters screaming for her attention, writing is more than a passion for her.
She writes about all things supernatural for children of all ages. She's tried to write contemporary novels before, but something paranormal always manages to crawl in.
Majanka is currently studying for her Master of Laws degree, and hopes one day to be able to combine her passions for law and writing. When she's not writing, reading or studying, she likes watching "The Vampire Diaries" and "Game of Thrones," spending time with her friends, or playing "World of Warcraft."
