Interview with DeCarol Jovanovic
Could you tell us about any research trips you took for this story?
Research trips consisted of going to the bathroom at home and public restrooms.
What's the strangest thing you've ever had to research online for your book?
Nighttime potty training
What research (history, mythology, science) goes into your world-building?
American Academy of Pediatrics website and healthychildren.org
Have any of the people you've known, past or present, left a lasting impression on your writing journey? If so, we'd love to hear about a memorable experience that stands out to you.
A little boy in my care proved to be a stubborn child. He understood the concept of potty training but I had to get creative to truly get him interested in going to the potty. For some experts, rewards are discouraged but they were absolutely necessary for this little one. The rewards helped build interest in using the potty and were always kept simple.
Do you write in the same genre all the time?
Yes
If so, have you ever consider writing in another one?
I would like to write in another style if I venture into topics geared for a more mature audience.
Which character, supernatural or human, do you enjoy writing the most and why?
I enjoy writing about the common topics that arise during the parenting process. Whether it’s safe sleep or potty training, these are issues that every parent has to tackle.
