Rhodi's Light
Megan Linski
(Rhodi Saga #1)
Published by: Gryfyn Publishing
Publication date: September 4th 2016
Genres: Dystopian, Fantasy, Young Adult

Flight. Hyperspeed. Clairvoyance.

These are some of the powers gifted to the Rhodi, an ancient sect of assassins who defend Crescentia, a dystopian world with a dying hope.

Dyliana Fairsson is one of them. After losing her parents to a suspicious accident, she and her twin brother, Devin, join the Rhodi to avoid starvation. Under the direction of her master, Dylan struggles to learn the strength of her magic …as well as hide the growing scars on her wrists. Can Dylan become the warrior, the hero, she’s destined to be? Or is she fated to fall from the light into the darkness?

The first installment in the epic fantasy series by bestselling author Megan Linski, Rhodi’s Light is an action-packed thrill ride that will leave readers begging for more.

My Review:

After losing their parents Dyliana “Dylan” Fairsson and her twin brother Devin in an accident they find themselves homeless and getting by with any means afforded to them. Until the day they are caught by a couple of Rhodi, who are also twins, Talidin and his sister Tavana. After some consideration Talidin and Tavana decide that Dylan and Devin are worth saving and take them in so they can train them to be Rhodi like them.

All their lives Dylan and Devin’s parents have kept them on the road and in hiding. Their parents never told them why or who they were running from or why it was so important for them to stay hidden. They never had friends growing up because they never stayed in one place long enough.

Devin loves his new life with all his new friends and gives it everything he has. He wants nothing more than to please his masters and to do that he must excel in his training and in school. Dylan on the other hand is a different story. While she is very grateful to Talidin and Tavana for taking them in and giving them a place to lay their heads at night and food in their belly’s she is not giving her training or schooling her all.

Dylan has a lot of stuff going on in her head. She blames herself for the accident that they were in that killed her parents. Dylan just doesn’t care about life or anything else at the moment. She has no room in her heart and head for all the sadness and hurt that is filling it up. Until she can release some of the guilt and pain in her heart and forgive her self then there will be no room for anything else. Besides all the suffering that Dylan is going through she has to worry about the Hunter’s Guild finding them.

I have really and truly loved reading Dylan’s story and following along with her on her journeys. I can relate to Dylan on certain levels and sort of know what she is going through and how she feels. I love that Dylan has so many people that care about her that will help her get through it all. She has friends and a new family that cares about her and will do anything to keep her safe. Rhodi’s Light has been an amazing journey and has taken us down so many different roads with lots of twist and turns that will keep you hanging on for more. And now I can’t wait to start the next book Rhodi’s Rising to see where Dylan, Devin, Talidin and Tavana take us on next. I hope to see you there.

Rhodi Rising
(Rhodi Saga #2)
by Megan Linski

Genres: Dystopian, Fantasy, Young Adult

Forced into hiding.
Desperate to find their masters.

In the past few months since the attack on their home, twin assassins Dylan and Devin have grown restless. With the Rhodi facing extinction, they search for their masters Talidin and Tavana, only to discover they’ve gone missing. With nowhere to turn, the twins seek help from a pair of mysterious spies, only to find the trail gone cold, marked by hints of torture and destruction.

Dylan and Devin piece together the events that led to the disappearance of their fellow Rhodi. As their enemies close in for the kill, Dylan discovers that some things are impossible for a Rhodi…but not for a tigress.

The stakes and romance are heightened in this epic dystopian sequel to Rhodi’s Light. Bestselling author Megan Linski brings readers a young adult fantasy with magic, mystery, and an epic adventure that races quickly to a breathless conclusion.

My Review:

When their Aunt and Uncle find them at the home of the Rhodi where they were staying after they lost their parents in an accident Dylan and Devin are forced to go live with them. Dylan and Devin do not want to leave their Masters Talidin and Tavana. Talidin has become like a father to Dylan. There is a bond between master and student that no one can break. The master will give his or her life for their student to keep them safe.

After their new home is attacked by the Hunter’s Guild and their Aunt and Uncle are taken captive. Dylan and Devin along with their cousin Tristen have nowhere to go except back home with their Masters. On their way back home they meet a very nice family with a boy about their age and a little girl whom they all become fast friends with.

When their Masters Talidin and Tavana come up missing Dylan, Devin, Enfys and Jenna go with them back to their home to help them find Talidin and Tavana. Enfys and Jenna are Searchers who can find out anything you would what to know or need to know.

Talidin and Tavana are very lucky that they have such caring and dedicating students as Dylan and Devin that will not let anything get in the way of them finding their masters and bringing them home. Dylan and Devin are very lucky to have such wonderful and amazing friends as they have in Enfys, Jenna, Tito and Tristen to help them with their mission of rescuing their masters.

I have enjoyed following along with Dylan and Devin on their journey of finding Talidin and Tavana. Sometimes they make you laugh but then sometimes they make you cry. Dylan and Devin will take you on some bumpy roads but in the end the ride will usually level out. Dylan and Devin have some pretty amazing and fun friends.

Can Dylan and Devin find Talidin and Tavana before it is too late? Can they stop the war between the Hunter’s Guild and the Rhodi before more people are tortured and killed? To find out all the answers pick your copy today!

Rhodi's Lullaby
(Rhodi Saga #3)
by Megan Linski
Published by: Gryfyn Publishing
Publication date: September 4th 2016
Genres: Dystopian, Fantasy, Young Adult

Cities burn.
Governments fall.
Lives are lost in a desperate war...one the Rhodi are losing.

The world has been devastated by the tyranny of the Red Huntress. To save Crescentia, Dylan and Devin attempt to decipher the mystery of the ancient letter their ancestors left behind, the only hope of salvation for their kind. Dylan continues to fight foes both on the battlefield and within her own mind, all while wrestling with the confused feelings she has for Enfys, the alluring spy who has become devoted to her cause.

In the epic conclusion to the thrilling Rhodi Saga, one brave warrior will stand in the way of corruption, to take place before her destiny…or her death.

Rhodi’s Lullaby is the third installment in the suspenseful young adult dystopian series fans and critics are calling an original masterpiece in the epic fantasy genre.

Rhodi’s Light and Rhodi Rising are also available. Catch up on the entire series today!

My Review:

Dylan and Devin are back home after rescuing their masters from the Hunter’s Guild where their leader and Queen the Red Huntress Rachael was holding them captive. Rachael wants nothing more than to take over Crescentia and make all the people her slaves. She also wants to use the Rhodians as well for her own proposes. The Rhodians was created to help people and keep them safe and they will fight to the death to keep the people of Crescentia out of the hands of the Hunter’s Guild.

Dylan has had a hard life and hurts herself sometimes. Each time she does it and she is caught she says she is not going to do it again. But with war hanging over their heads and the stress that goes with it hurting herself is the only way that she can handle it and make the hurt go away. Dylan thinks no one cares about her or wants her around even though Talidin, Devin Enfys, Tavana, Tito and Jenna are always showing her and telling her differently.

Enfys has feelings for Dylan and wants their relationship to be more than just friends but Dylan is afraid with the war hanging over their heads that if she gets involved with Enfys that she will hurt him or she could lose him and it would break her heart if she allowed herself to love him and then she lost him.

I have really and truly loved following along with Dylan, Devin, Talidin, Tavana, Enfys, Jenna and Tito while they fought Rachael and the Hunter’s Guild. There were times while I was reading Rhodi’s Lullaby that I would find myself crying because I was happy and sometimes because I was sad.

I have enjoyed reading all three books in The Rhodi Saga and hope to read more. I am not sure which book of the three books I liked the best but if I had to choose I think it would probably be Rhodi’s Lullaby. The Rhodi’s Saga is going to be with me for a long time to come. I think I may take a piece of The Rhodi’s Saga with me always.

What is your writing process? For instance do you do an outline first? Do you do the chapters first?

All my books--every single one--start with a long walk.  Plotlines come to me on my feet, nowhere else.  Once I get a basic idea for a book, I head outside then talk to myself on a walk in the woods for a couple hours.  When I come back, I sit down and write a careful outline, often thirty or forty single-spaced pages. The outline contains every detail of every storyline.  A total stranger could read that outline and write the novel in my place!  Once that's done, I let it sit for a while.  Then I come back and revise it for holes and new ideas and stuff.  When I'm satisfied the outline will work, I condense it down to eight pages for my agent and get to work on the actual prose.  All this takes a couple-three months.

Once I get going on the prose, I can whip right along because I know exactly what's going to happen.  I never have to stop to figure out plot points.  That work is already done!  I can finish a novel in a few months this way.

As a result, I have a reputation for speed.  But it's all fake!  I actually take quite a long time to write a novel, about a year from idea to finished manuscript.  Since no one knows I'm working on a novel until I've already gotten all the details worked out, it looks like I'm pounding things out at warp!

I'm heavily dependent on the outline process.  It gives me security.  I have written two novels by the seat of my pants.  Under deadline pressure, I wrote my third steampunk novel The Dragon Men on an "outline" the length of a paragraph, and I wrote The Havoc Machine, my fourth steampunk book, with a three-page outline.  I came out of both novels with a wild-eyed look and shaking hands, however, and I prefer to avoid it!

EXCERPT:

Tess had made a lot of mistakes in her short life. She thought she got it of her system after high school, but apparently at twenty-five, she was still as dumb as she was at eighteen. Maybe more. This was definitely the stupidest thing she’d ever done.
After the plane touched down on the nearly frozen northern Michigan runway, she turned her phone on and discovered twenty messages from her mother and four sisters. They all said the same thing.
“Come home.”
She’d lived in Southern Florida her entire life. But she had to get away from there. Though she sure picked a crappy time of year. The second week of January wasn’t exactly smart.
Passengers at the tiny airport disembarked down a stairway instead of into the airport. As she stepped off the plane, she knew she made not one big mistake, but two. Prior to this moment, she’d never been in weather under forty degrees. This was probably below zero. She wasn’t prepared for cold like this.
The wind bit at her face and hands as she ran for the airport. She had gloves on, but they were useless against the chill. Lost in thought, she waited for her bags. She would need to stop at a store to get a better coat before she headed to the island. Never mind that she blew most of her savings on the best winter weather gear she could find in Miami, which wasn’t the place to buy for a Michigan winter.
A hand tapped her on the shoulder. She turned and found herself having to look up at a man with chiseled features. She sucked in a breath. She always had a weakness for tall, dark, and handsome.
“Are you Tess?” he asked.
She nodded. If this was her boss, she was in so much trouble.
“Are you Dr. Jorgenson?”
He chuckled. “No, I’m Lukas, and I’m a little young to be the superintendent of a school. Doc doesn’t leave the island during the winter. I’m your landlord.”
She nearly burst out laughing. She was so in for it.
“How’d you recognize me?” she asked.
“You’re the only one not dressed for the weather. Doc said you were from Florida, but I thought you’d have more sense than this.”
Tess wore a wool coat over a sweater dress, ankle length leggings, and knee high black boots. She was more covered than she’d ever been in Florida. Yet she was still freezing.
Before she could answer, he continued speaking.
“Do you have a heavier coat and gloves in your suitcase?”
Tess shook her head. “I bought the best I could find.”
He frowned. “The shops are closed. You’ll have to come back to the mainland later and get more gear. In the meantime, you’re gonna lose a couple of fingers. Seriously, are those the only gloves you have?”
She nodded and looked down at her thin gloves that matched her dress. She had four other pairs, but they were all the same kind, and trying to layer them didn’t make much sense. She knew he was right; her fingers were in danger.

EXCERPT:

Cara’s POV:
“You’re damn determined to get frisked.” The stranger called Bulldogger by the soldiers standing next to him held his hands loose but ready at his sides.
“And you’re determined to lose a part of your manhood.” Cara glared.
Bulldogger stepped into the line of the lasers dotting her stomach. His angry green gaze left her and found his cohorts. He raised his index finger and whirled it. She looked back long enough to see the two men frown and then give her their backs. “You too,” he barked. Luck and Rin balked. “Now.”
When they turned, Cara faced the cowboy. “What about you?”
“So you can sever my spine? I don’t think so.” His nod was slow, his eyes steady.
He’d demanded more privacy for her than she had reason to expect, and they’d wasted enough time. Cara unbuttoned the snap of her slim fitting tact pants, freed the zipper, and pushed them over her hips. Gravity made quick work, plunging them to her ankles and giving her access to all her weapons. Too bad they didn’t work anymore. The black lace of her bra hadn’t enticed him. She doubted the matching boy shorts could. At forty-five, she’d officially lost her touch.
Ever the gentleman, the stranger didn’t leer, but then again, his gaze didn’t leave her body either. Probably scared of losing a ball. And rightly so.
She unbuckled the double straps from her taut thigh and tossed the sheath and two small knives to the floor. Cara hitched her shirt, unwound that strap from her middle, and tossed it and the single blade down with the others.
“Satisfied?”
“Turn.”
Cara glared a hole through his forehead. He whirled that index finger again, while his neutral visage maintained a clinical interest. Still, it felt too intimate to be standing before only him in an open room full of people and guns. She slapped her long blond ponytail over her shoulder and swiveled on her heels, determined not to make anything of her unusual vulnerability. When her gaze lost his, and the mostly bare ass cheeks leveled on him, the humid air inside the old warehouse condensed on her back once more, threatening to give her away. Her feet shifted to complete the 360 with her pants around her ankles. The sooner, the better.
“Stop,” he ordered.
Damn.
“I charge by the minute,” she growled.
“Huh.” The rumble of his harrumph rattled its way across the shell of her ear from mere inches away. Her ruffled ponytail shot over her shoulder and smacked her collarbone. Heat centered her spine as the back of his hand clamped the dagger strapped to the clasp of her bra, running up the center of her back.
“I charge by the inch.” The rumble of his growl reverberated against her cheek. He dragged the hot metal from its sheath, pulling the damp material away from her skin. Gooseflesh spread across her shoulder blades. The sharp point skimmed along her spine.
A shiver zipped every which way, except the way it should’ve…which was no-damn-where.

Blurb Blitz + #Giveaway: The Dream Walker by Michelle Murray @murray_mlmurray @GoddessFish

The Dream Walker
by Michelle Murray
GENRE:  Middle grade fantasy

BLURB:

Miranda is plagued by vivid dreams of a another world. A world of castles, forests, Ice Caves, and dragons. She goes to a bookstore to see why she is having these visions, and learns she is a Dream Walker. Miranda heeds the call of need, and travels to Mystica. For years, the wizards have been trapped in stone. Now, one curious boy has released Midnight. Midnight gathers an army, and prepares for war. Miranda needs to find the white wizard Lightning and free from his stone prison. Can Miranda free Lighting and save Mystica?

Excerpt:

The spell book was worn and torn at places. It was musty and full of mildew. Yet, Midnight could make out one spell. This spell was all he needed. The spell trapped people’s souls in stones.

Midnight traveled Mystica looking for the ingredients for his spell. It made him giddy and somewhat impatient to have the spell he needed. Being impatient, he decided to travel in smoke form. It made for far faster journeying. A trail of  black smoke zipped through the air of Mystica.

His first landing was a waterfall on the west side of the Dwarf  Mountains. Materializing into his wizard form, he landed softly on the crevice of the mountain. His smoke form would not help him here, so he was forced to travel the rest of the way on foot. Precariously, he made his way across the slippery rocks to the back of the waterfall. Blue water splashed his robe, face, and hands. The sound almost deafened him, and drowned out everything else. Levitating himself to the other side, he only managed to hit his head on the cliff. As he rubbed his head, he landed with a splash in the cool water. He swam, paddling madly with his arms to fight the currents to the cave at the end of the waterfall.  Climbing out of the water, he reached the sandy terrain of the ledge. He shook the water off his robe, and gathered five stones. One stone for each of the wizards he wanted to entrap. The stones were clear, almost opaque. They fit in the palm of his hand, and were smooth and round. Polished by the water.

Triumph filled him! Mystica would be his! A laugh, maniac in nature, escaped his lungs. Morphing into cloud form, he continued on to the next ingredient. He needed fire flowers next. Fire flowers were flowers with orange petals and a red center. They had double petals that resembled the two suns on Mystica.   They grew on the heart of an island in the middle of Lily Lake. Lily Lake breamed with seaweed, algae, and green moss. It was more of a swamp than a lake. Fish swam beneath the green slime, often biting each other. The island itself had sharp green thorny plants all around the perimeter. In the very center, was a clearing with the fire flowers. Midnight came down from his smoke form on the island, snatching his robe on the thorny plants.  Blood trickled down his arm from the thorns. He barely noticed. The blood dripped down into the water, making the fish hungry. Grabbing his cape from its entanglement, he strode purposely forward. Ripping the fire flowers from their beds, he added them to his potion bag. Fish from the water jumped from the lake and started attaching him. Swarms of fish with sharp fang like teeth came toward him. They bit into his skin leaving red marks and spilling more blood. The blood called more and more fish from the water. Surrounded by attacking fish, Midnight said a spell:
Clouds of dark
Clouds of black
Take these fish back!

Book Blast + #Giveaway: Pure of Heart by Auria Jourdain @AuriaJourdain @GoddessFish

Pure of Heart
by Auria Jourdain
GENRE: Historical Romance

BLURB:

A ghost child left to die in a French forest, Contesse Blanchefort seeks her long-buried past after her adoptive father dies at the Bastille. Embarking on a quest across England with a pagan woman and a rogue Gypsy, Contesse falls ill in London, and her companions are forced to seek help. With overwhelming compassion, physician’s apprentice Eric McEwan nurses Contesse back to health, but discovers that her exotic accent and pale features set his heart ablaze...her mere touch brands his soul. Passion blooms as the two discover their love for one another—with disastrous consequences.

Upon his expulsion from Cambridge, Eric must battle his domineering grandfather’s wrath. When family tragedy strikes, he must return to his provincial home and confront his abusive past. Carrying on with her quest, Contesse struggles to free herself from her childhood as sinister details are revealed. Without Eric, she’s lost. But love is strong...can they conquer their demons to find one another again?

Excerpt:

Eric wished the Earth would swallow him whole. He’d spent his entire life under the control of his father, and when he moved to London, he set out to finally be his own man. But here he was…still living under someone else's reign, always a disappointment and never able to please. His grandfather had the money and power to sabotage his entire future. And what did I do...a grown man? I stood there and let him berate me!  Eric hated his grandfather—but most of all, he despised himself.

Ripping the cravat from his neck, he jerked his overcoat and vest from his person and threw them to the hay-covered floor. Bellowing in fury, he picked up a stray horseshoe from the dirty straw, hurling it through a window with savage force. He sank to the floor and buried his head in his hands, anguish piercing his heart.

A few moments later, Contesse opened the barn door. Eric looked up at her, staring at her intently. Tears whispered at her lashes, and he chastised himself. Here he was, sitting on the dirty ground, feeling sorry for himself. She didn’t deserve a man as cowardly as him. Realizing he said the words out loud, he scowled.

With her head held high, Contesse padded over to him in her bare stockings and sat on her haunches, grabbing his hands. “You are more than worthy of me, Eric. Edouard Blanchefort would be proud I’ve chosen a good man with a pure heart.”

Eric Rutherford is a photographer at the top of his game.

Young, handsome, and rich, he burst onto the art scene like a rock star. His black and white portraits sell for massive sums, but Eric wants to take a new direction in his work. He longs to create erotic art. He wants to photograph the imprints of rope across a woman’s skin, and the red stripes left by a flogger on a pale bottom.

And so his search for the perfect model begins, and when blonde Anya walks into his apartment, his only fear is she’ll say no.

Art student Anya Rhinne knows all about Eric Rutherford.

She knows how he’d had every spotlight turned on him, only to fall from grace spectacularly with some kind of breakdown he only described in interviews as his ‘dark days.’

When he offers her the job as his model, and their sessions together grow more intimate, she struggles to divide what is professional from personal.

As his work takes a turn toward obsession, a desire to create perfection at all costs, she has to wonder if she’ll ever mean more to him than just a beautiful image on a photograph.

Will she sacrifice everything for his art?
