Release Blitz: Miracle Grow of the Mind by Carol LaHines @Clahines @RABTBookTours

Literary Fiction, Family Fiction

Date Published: October 13, 2026

Miracle Grow of the Mind is a funny, heartbreaking exploration of parenthood, disability, medical bureaucracy, Big Agro, food allergies, and environmental pathogens. When Amy and Michael’s son is born prematurely, they are thrust into a world of pediatric neurologists, sensory reintegration therapy, and endless evaluations.

Michael also struggles with a mother suffering from dementia, who insists he is the grown-up version of a brother who died in infancy. When the Kafkaesque Bureau of Preschool Special Education threatens to make their son repeat kindergarten, the family must confront how they are living and decide which therapies—everything from Mel Finkelstein’s sensory reintegration sessions to pediatric neurologist visits—are worth the emotional toll.

“Everyone should read this miracle of a book. Carol LaHines is a fearless writer. With brutal honesty, laugh-aloud-humor, faultless dialogue, understanding, and ultimately with great empathy and compassion, she portrays all our misguided efforts to control our bodies, our children, and our lives.” —Sheila Kohler, author of award-winning novels including Bluebird, Cracks, and Becoming Jane Eyre

Her second novel, The Vixen Amber Halloway (Regal House 2024) was a gold medal winner in the Foreword Indies awards, a finalist for an American Fiction Award and the Pencraft Award, and a Shelf Unbound notable indie, and was featured on NPR and C-SPAN. Her fiction has appeared in literary journals including Fence, Hayden’s Ferry Review, Denver Quarterly, Cimarron Review, The Literary Review, The Laurel Review, North Dakota Quarterly, South Dakota Review, The South Carolina Review, The Chattahoochee Review, Sycamore Review, Permafrost, redivider, Literary Orphans, and Literal Latte. Her short stories and novellas have also been finalists for the Mary McCarthy Prize in Short Fiction from Sarabande Books, the David Nathan Meyerson fiction prize, the New Letters short story award, and the Disquiet Literary Prize, among others.

Ms. LaHines’ eldest son Dylan was born with Pierre-Robin sequence. His condition, which can lead to breathing obstruction and is potentially fatal, went undiagnosed and was compounded by other egregious medical errors, as a result of which Dylan was medically challenged and severely disabled, at least as defined by society. Having navigated these labyrinthine, Kafka-esque corridors herself, she was moved to write this book as a testament to him and all the other families like hers who have coped with an indifferent medical bureaucracy. Miracle Grow is also laced with the satire, acerbic commentary, absurdist subplots, and the tragic-comic sensibility Ms. LaHines is known for.

Salma Fuentes, known in Los Regalos as Salome, made her way offstage, tossing her crop onto one of the props tables as she went. Jerry, the stagehand, passed her a bottle of water. Ashley waited to help her into her short robe of crimson silk since all she was wearing at the moment were her nipple clips, four-inch stilettos, and diamond studded G-string. The backup dancers trotted along behind her, the applause beyond the curtains ringing out.

So went another night at the Ropacabana.

"Awesome show, Salome." Ashley smiled at her. "You looked so beautiful up there."

"Thanks." Salome nodded to the younger woman, hoping she could make it to the dressing room without being followed.

"Salome?"

Salome didn't stop, knowing Ashley wasn't likely to give up until she pled her case. "Yes?" Might as well get this over with.

"I was hoping to… um… talk to you if I could." The girl's tone revealed her anxiety. "If you have a moment, that is."

No matter how much ambition she could smell on Ashley, she just couldn't bring herself to be rude. She probably should have. Sure, her years in Los Regalos had made her cynical and jaded. Yet Salome wasn't so arrogant that she couldn't sympathize with the amount of courage it took for Ashley to approach her.

She was pretty sure she knew what the other woman wanted. It was always the same thing. Every year it seemed there was a new bright-eyed girl working backstage at the hottest club in Los Regalos wanting to be the new star.

She herself had once been one of those bright-eyed girls.

"I've just got a moment," Salome told her. "I have a meeting with Hamilton upstairs in ten minutes."

Ashley nodded, swallowing visibly in her nervousness. "Well, I was hoping you could give me some advice. I've been working backstage for the last year on all the shows I could get on with as an assistant. I guess I'm interested in doing more now. I'm hoping to become a dancer. You know, like you."

Salome smiled patiently at her, looking her up and down. As far as wereleopards went, Ashley was a fine specimen. A lovely girl with cocoa colored skin, gorgeous dark hair, and a thirty-nine inch inseam unless she missed her guess. Nice slender build but not too skinny. She had large breasts but not too large. They didn't look like they'd pull the rest of her willowy frame over with their weight.

Ashley's best features were big, dark eyes that were very trusting and open. Maybe a little too open. Ashley had always been a friendly girl, like a puppy. If Ashley had been a real bitch, Salome wouldn't worry so much.

She shook her head. Had the girl already been there for a year? In two more years Los Regalos would tear Ashley apart no matter what path her future took.

That or it would make Ashley a cynical asshole like she was.

"Why?" she had to ask the younger woman. "Why would you want to do what I do, Ashley? You're smart, right? You're educated."

Ashley nodded again, wringing her hands in front of her. "Well, I do have a degree from the real world but… there's not a lot I can do with that here."

"Sure there is." Salome sat on the edge of her dressing table for a moment, opening the bottle of water to take a long drink. "You could get an office job and work for one of the admins. You can make as much money there as you could doing this. Someone has to keep the books in this place. And trust me, you'd be a lot happier."

"Happier? Being a paper pusher? Sure, the money might be good but I'd die if I had to do that every day. Locked in an office, away from the shows? I could have done that in the real world. No, I came here to do more."

"You could still see the shows," Salome pointed out. "You could afford to come and see all the shows you wanted."

Turning to the mirror, Salome hurried to put herself together to meet with her supervisor. She didn't have time to change clothes or shower. There was really little point. He probably had a client he wanted her to fuck waiting up there right now. If she looked sweaty and disheveled, it was all for the better.

"You don't think I'd m-make a good dancer?"

Salome took a deep breath. Somehow she knew the girl wouldn't give up that easily. Turning back, she took in the girl's unease as she stood there, her little hands still busy knotting and unknotting.

"Ashley, I don't know if you can dance or not. I do see a woman who could do anything she wanted. I'm just trying to tell you to consider carefully what you choose."

The girl's eyes widened a little at that.

"How old are you?" Salome asked.

"Eighteen."

It figured. "I was your age when I started dancing up here."

"You're still so young and you're the star here."

Salome didn't miss the enthusiasm in the girl's voice. Enthusiasm was a great thing but there was something Ashley didn't quite grasp. "I'm twenty-five. I've been here for eight years and yes, I worked hard to get where I am. But where I am isn't exactly what you might think."

"What's to think about? Everyone knows who Salome is. Everyone comes here to see you dance. You look so gorgeous up there, so sexy. That's what I want. I don't mind dancing nude or suggestively. It's an art, a celebration --"

"There's a price," Salome warned.

MOM

I remember hearing stories of distant aunts and uncles who were afflicted with the Devil’s Dance—a colloquialism used in some circles to refer to those who were afflicted with HD. They were said to have the Devil’s Dance because of the chorea—a movement disorder causing involuntary spasmodic movements—that looked like an awkward, uncontrolled dance. Chorea is a primary symptom of HD. The Devil’s Dance was whispered about because of the shame, stigma and fear of this disease no one knew much about.

Times were different back then. There was no genetic testing or genetic counselling. Families just waited to see if symptoms would appear in them or in loved ones. Not much was known about the genetics of this disease or what the probabilities were of being affected if a parent had the disease. All I knew was what I heard about family members being sheltered and, in some instances, locked up so they wouldn’t harm themselves. They were deemed to have the Devil’s Dance, and not everyone behaved the same way. There was shame among afflicted families. There was also incredible fear.

This was in the early to mid-1900s in a remote community in northeast Newfoundland, where not many people talked about HD. Partly because there wasn’t much known about it, and no one in these small towns knew what to do anyway, especially if the afflicted person had rage tendencies and dramatic outbursts. My aunt Edna, who, along with my aunt Marg, helped in raising me after my own mother died, often became quite violent and would hit her husband, and hit him hard. She was sent away periodically for shock therapy because that was the preferred “treatment” of a disease that no one knew much about. I had an uncle who took his own life after he started exhibiting symptoms.

I suppose they call it the Devil’s Dance because those who are afflicted can’t keep still, legs going, feet going, torso bending. And the devil part? Well, that probably doesn’t need much explanation or observation. Only the devil could conjure such a tragic infliction. Some days I do feel like I’m in hell, to be honest. Fitting, I suppose. Not like I have a choice to dance with anyone else except with this devil of a disease.

About the Author:

Corinne was 10-years old when she told her teacher that when she grew up, she was going to be an author. A few decades may have passed since then, but the author dream was realized with the publication of her debut novel, Me, Mom & the Monster in the summer of 2026.

Corinne, a native Newfoundlander, grew up surrounded by books, newspapers and magazines. Her environment must have had some impact since she graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland with a Bachelor of Arts and then went on to pursue a Journalism diploma at Mount Royal University in Calgary, Alberta.

Although her initial intention was to write fiction, Corinne says the story of Me, Mom & the Monster needed to be told first. She says sharing the intimate story of being part of a Huntington’s disease family opened the space for other ideas.

When she isn’t creating characters, and envisioning scenes and scenarios, she finds comfort in being outside. She lives in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada where she is continuously adding to her To Be Read stack and where she is currently writing her second book.

Dane

The long ribbon of highway carried me south along the riverfront before the sun had cleared the mountain tops. Cold air bit through my coat collar and hit the back of my neck. My bike thrummed under me, a steady vibration through the handlebars and into my palms.

Three blocks later, I noticed a dark blue Fusion behind me. It held my pace at two car lengths, never dropping back. I watched it in the side mirror without turning my head. The driver kept a distance but didn’t seem to be trying to hide as they followed. So, I promptly ran the next light. If the cops had suddenly taken an interest in me, I wanted the biggest head start I could get. Not because I’d done anything, but because right now, I could pretend I didn’t see them and speed back to the compound. Once inside, the guys could call the lawyer who sometimes helped us out. If they blue lighted me, though, it was over. So? I did ninety.

The compact waited at the intersection. A couple seconds later, I slowed down. I still kept an eye out but went much slower so I could take my eyes off the road and glance back occasionally. I thought that might have been the end of it, but a half mile down the road, I spotted the same car. OK. I’d play.

Instead of continuing to evade, I led the fucker straight to the compound. If someone was after me, I’d need backup. It’s what Knuckles and Gunnar stressed when I first came here. If I got into trouble, my first call or my next stop would be the Kiss of Death compound.

It didn’t take long until I reached the warehouses by the dock where the compound sat. A few minutes later, I pulled up to the gate and waited. Sure enough, shortly after, the little blue Fusion rolled up to the entrance and stopped.

I swung off my bike and crossed the fifteen feet between me and the car in long, threatening strides. My fist came down on the compact’s roof hard enough to feel the metal give. The sound cracked through the predawn quiet like a gunshot. Inferno and Oktober stepped just outside the gate where they’d been on watch and waited to see if I needed backup.

“Who the hell put you up to this?” Cold air snapped at my coat’s collar. “Why are you following me?”

The driver’s window rolled down. A woman’s face emerged from the shadows of the car interior, pale in the gray light, dark hair pulled back, and she trembled visibly. Her gaze found mine and held.

At first, I was just annoyed. Then my brain finally caught up with my eyes and pushed away from the car like she struck me. All of a sudden, the past came back to punch me in the balls.

The woman at the bank. She’d been the one to testify against me. Her testimony had been crucial to putting me away, so her face wasn’t one I ever wanted to see again.

She exhaled. Her breath misted between us. An envelope sat clutched in her hands, pressed against the steering wheel like she was afraid to let it go.

“I -- I’m Brielle Sloan.” Her voice shook as if she were nervous or scared. Good. I hope she was scared. “I saw that charity-run article in one of the city’s online papers. I wanted to find you at your clubhouse and didn’t realize who I was following.”

“You saw me in town and followed me.” Not only was she a bitch but she was a stupid bitch. “You thought it was safe to follow a strange man affiliated with any kind of MC to their clubhouse? Is that what I’m hearing?”

She blinked up at me, shivering now in the October wind. “I…” She swallowed. “I guess so.” When she spoke that time, her voice was soft and subdued, likely knowing she’d fucked up.

“You’re not here about a fuckin’ charity run.” I held her gaze, letting my anger bleed through so she knew exactly what she was dealing with. “What the fuck do you want?”

She took a breath before opening the door and stepping out. She was smaller than I remembered from the courtroom. In fact, she looked like shit with her cheekbones prominent and her skin almost sallow. She looked like she’d missed more than a couple meals and ran herself ragged. Outside the car, her breath came in short white clouds between us.

“I’m sorry,” she blurted out. “I didn’t want to testify against you, but I was being threatened.” She held out the manila envelope she’d been clutching to her chest, offering it to me. “This proves he built that robbery around you.”

This was not on my bingo card. “Evidence I was set up? The fuck ‘er you talkin’ about?” Twelve years. Twelve years I’d spent on the inside, just trying to survive in an environment not in any way shape or form friendly to a lone white boy. The lessons I’d learned had to be learned hard and fast.

She took a tentative step forward, insisting I take the envelope. “It’s all in there.” Brielle’s voice changed. The level quality thinned at the edges. “I’m sorry, Mr. Rourke. I never meant to be the bad guy in all this.”

Wind cut across the service road. Cold river air, carrying the scents of diesel and mud. Her hair stirred at the edges with a couple of strands catching on her eyelashes. She didn’t push them away, instead held the envelope.

I took the envelope from her just as I noticed another car. I’d been so focused on the blue car, I ignored the other car following. This was a gray sedan. Seeing it now triggered the memory and I knew I had more than one person following me. When Brielle got out of her car, she’d turned the engine off. I’d been waiting for her at the clubhouse gate with my bike shut off. Which meant, the gray sedan I’d seen earlier couldn’t see our lights and didn’t have a warning we were around the next bend.

As the car rounded the curve and finally saw us, the driver let off the accelerator a moment before continuing on as if nothing had happened. Admittedly, the driver could have lifted his foot on reflex. But I had a tingle between my shoulders I’d learned never to dismiss offhand.

Out of the corner of my vision, I saw Oktober and Inferno ready themselves. Inferno actually started toward me, though Oktober held back. Likely to have the wider angle, and to call for reinforcements.

The car continued on and had to pass close enough for me to see the outline of the driver behind the windshield. I thought the guy had a phone in his hand, but it was hard to tell as the floodlights glared against the windshield and the driver’s side window.

Brielle didn’t seem to notice the other vehicle. At least, she didn’t glance at it. Instead, she seemed so focused on me nothing else around her seemed to register. I could see her hands shaking, but she didn’t tuck them away or try to hide it. Which meant, she likely hadn’t known who was in the sedan or knew she’d been followed. If she had and this was a setup, she’d have shifted her gaze to the car on instinct.

Just as I thought the car would roll on and keep going, it stopped a few car lengths away from us. I could see the driver aiming his phone at his side mirror. Taking a picture?

“Don’t move,” I said to Brielle.

Oktober and Inferno both now moved to cover me and Brielle, between us and the sedan. The sedan stayed a moment longer. I caught the outline of the driver through the back window. Great.

“What’s going on?” Oktober looked from me to Brielle and back.

“Not sure,” I muttered. “But someone just photographed me and the woman whose testimony put me in prison. I doubt my parole officer would be impressed to find out we’d had contact of any sort.” I scowled, stepping backward so fast, Inferno had to stop me from knocking him down.

“Easy, man,” he said softly. “What’s going on?”

I pointed at Brielle. “If you’re trying to get me tangled in something to get my parole revoked, you can just take your sweet ass back to wherever the fuck you came from.”

Gravel sprayed from the rear tires as the sedan hurried out of the area and faded as the car swung onto the main road and disappeared toward Nashville. Still, that itch between my shoulders became more insistent and bothersome. Something wasn’t right at all.

“Who was in the gray car, Brielle?”

Her brow wrinkled in confusion. “I… what?”

“The car that just stopped and took our picture. Who was following us?”

She shook her head, a helpless expression on her face as she looked at Oktober and Inferno, then glanced around the area. She turned her head to look down the road opposite where the car had been. Could the woman be that clueless of her surroundings?

Fuck. “So fucking stupid,” I muttered. I didn’t know if I meant Brielle, or me. Because I was about to do something so incredibly stupid as to not even be believed.

I tucked the envelope inside my coat. “Get in your car, Brielle.”

Brielle didn’t move. “OK. I’ll leave.”

“No,” I snapped. “Follow me to the compound. Follow me and don’t stop for anything.” I moved back to my bike and climbed on.

“Everything OK?” Oktober followed me, Inferno hanging back to watch over Brielle.

“I don’t know,” I admitted. “I’m taking her to the compound. I’ll let Knuckles and Knight sort this out.”

“Sort what out?”

I met his gaze. “I’m pretty sure trouble just came crawling to our doorstep.”

Oktober nodded at the little Fusion as Brielle climbed back inside. “Someone was interested in whatever she brought me.” I indicated the envelope. “It might be nothing, but if she’s not actually working to wrap me up in some kind of trap, then she could be in some serious danger.”

Inferno instructed Brielle which way to go once she passed through the gate. As I watched, her eyes grew round and wide. Her already pale face seemed to lose even more color as fear settled into her expression. She looked almost haunted, like she knew it was only a matter of time before the bad guys caught up to her.

She pulled up beside me, just inside the gate. “What’s going on?”

I gave her a hard look, hoping I got through to her because, while I might be angry with her, none of what happened back then had been her fault. And even if it was, I knew the kind of man Grant Sutton was. Brielle had been little more than a teenager when it had all gone down. He’d likely blackmailed her or threatened her. Still, I couldn’t help my harsh tone. “Does Sutton know you’re here?”

“What?” Her eyes widened and she started trembling even more. “Why would he know I’m here?”

“I don’t know what your game is, but I’d bet my ass Sutton has had you followed. He now knows you’re not playing by his rules anymore. Whatever protection you thought you had just evaporated. Follow me and don’t stop until I do.”

I rolled toward the compound, my brothers at my back. I knew one of them would have contacted Knuckles. Both of them probably called their old ladies because neither man would want the woman following me to be thrown to the wolves without some backup. Whether she deserved that backup remained to be seen. Either way, I’d get to the bottom of this. And I really hoped Brielle Sloan was on the up and up.

Review: Murder at Marchmont & Bell (The Bloomsbury Bookshop Mysteries #1) by Imogen Penrose @imogenpenrose

Murder at Marchmont & Bell

The Bloomsbury Bookshop Mysteries #1

by Imogen Penrose

Published: July 29, 2026

Genre: Mystery, Thriller, Suspense, Short Read, Cozy Mystery, Animals, Ghost

Blurb:

The bookshop comes with a cat. The stairs come with a ghost. And the Russian literature, this morning, comes with a body.

Cleo Marchmont came home to Bloomsbury for a quiet bookshop and a quieter life.

She did not expect the cat and the ghost that came with it.
She really did not expect the dead collector among the Dostoevsky on the morning she meant to reopen.

The police call it a sad accident. Cleo, who spent eleven years telling true first editions from clever fakes, does not.

The book by the body is a forgery. The cellar is full of stock that was never her aunt's. Her shut shop has been a warehouse for eighteen months.

That leaves no shortage of suspects, and the quiet man at the centre of it has been nothing but kind to her.

A careful man does not leave a loose end on the shelf.

Murder at Marchmont & Bell is the first Bloomsbury Bookshop Mystery. For readers of Lucy Connelly, Verity Bright, and Jackie Baldwin.

My Review:

While Murder at Marchmont & Bell is technically book one of The Bloomsbury Bookshop Mysteries by Imogen Penrose, I actually started my journey with the delightful prequel novella, The First Edition. I fell completely in love with the characters there and couldn't wait to continue the series. I am thrilled to say that this first full-length novel did not disappoint—if anything, it made me love the series even more.

The story connects beautifully to the prequel. Cleo Marchmont inherits both a Sussex cottage and a struggling London bookshop from her Great-Aunt Vivienne. While packing up the cottage, she is immediately adopted by an opinionated tabby cat named Boswell and discovers that her aunt's ghost refuses to cross over. Rather than selling the business, Cleo decides to move to London to run the Bloomsbury bookshop herself.

On reopening day—after the shop has been closed for eighteen months—Cleo stumbles across a dead collector stashed in the Russian literature section. The police rule it a tragic, accidental fall, but Cleo’s eleven years of experience as an antiquarian book expert tell her otherwise. Spotting a forged book next to the body, she knows instantly that foul play is afoot.

The bibliophile elements of this mystery are fantastic. I loved learning about the technicalities of rare books, first editions, and the competitive world of collectors. The pacing kept me turning the pages late into the night as Cleo uncovered astonishing secrets hidden in the shop's history. Vivienne's ghost is a brilliant addition to the investigation, and as a dog person who doesn't know much about cats, watching Boswell steal the spotlight was incredibly fun.

I can’t wait to read the next book in the series! I highly recommend Murder at Marchmont & Bell to all cozy mystery lovers. Grab your copy today!

My Review:

Poisoned Stars is a captivating sci-fi series that completely pulled me into its world with the first book, Shattered Gravity, and continues to mesmerize me in the second installment, Nebulous Affairs by Jina S. Bazzar.

With so many mystery-filled twists and turns, it was impossible to stop reading until I reached the final page; the more I read, the more hooked I became. Bazzar's descriptions are beautifully written, making it easy to visualize the story in my mind as if I were watching a cinematic movie or TV show. In fact, I would love to see this series adapted for the screen—it would absolutely make my day!

The story follows Dara and Tarin, two characters who have spent their entire lives fighting on opposite sides of a century-long war. Dara was once a dedicated soldier in the Vald army, but she has since been disowned, hunted, and stripped of her rank. Meanwhile, Tarin is the proud heir of the Dratos faction, carrying the immense weight of his people's legacy and future leadership on his shoulders. Driven by unanswered questions, this unlikely duo is forced to team up to uncover who is hiding secrets from them, and why. As they spend more time together, a slow-burn relationship naturally begins to develop.

In this sequel, the world-building explodes in scale. Bazzar introduces greater political depth and showcases the broader consequences of a manufactured war on everyday citizens. The lore brilliantly shifts from a localized conflict between two nations into a story about a vast, corrupt galactic economy built entirely on the industry of war.

I highly recommend Nebulous Affairs to all fans of military space operas. Grab a copy of both books in the Poisoned Stars series today for an unforgettable space adventure!

Review: Murder Leaves an Echo (The Alderfield Witch Mysteries #1) by Lucy Harrowell

Murder Leaves an Echo

The Alderfield Witch Mysteries #1

by Lucy Harrowell

Published: October 10, 2026

Genre: Cozy Mystery, Mystery, Woman Sleuth, Crime Fiction, Witches, Wizards

Blurb:

Mara Whitmore came home to Alderfield to run her family’s historic inn—not to solve a murder.

But Mara is a witch, and some objects remember more than people do.

Hours after respected civic leader Judith Prescott leaves Hawthorn House, she is found dead. Then Mara accidentally touches the dark green folio Judith left behind.

The echo hits hard: cold air, damp wool, paper pulled sharply against leather, a surge of panic—and a single word.

Tomorrow.

Mara’s gift doesn’t give her names, dates, or explanations. The fragments are real. What they mean is another matter entirely.

And the Alderfield Mara returned to after thirteen years away is not the town she remembers. Judith’s death exposes family resentment, an old professional grievance, hidden civic tensions—and more than one person with something to lose.

At first, the echo seems to point Mara in one convincing direction.

But the echo isn’t wrong.

Mara is.

With Detective Sergeant Daniel Hart following the evidence, Mara must separate what she sensed from what she assumed before a false interpretation hides the truth about Judith’s murder.

Because echoes don’t lie. They just don’t tell the whole story.

Murder Leaves an Echo is the first book in The Alderfield Witch Mysteries, a small-town paranormal cozy mystery series with a historic Vermont inn, a touch of slow-burn romance, a tuxedo cat, and a complete murder mystery in every book.

My Review:

Murder Leaves an Echo is a fantastic first book and a wonderful introduction to Lucy Harrowell’s The Alderfield Witch Mysteries series. The mystery and suspense kept me turning the pages as each new clue came to light.

Within three hours of leaving Hawthorn House, Judith Prescott is found dead. There are plenty of suspects to interview, and it quickly becomes clear that Alderfield is holding onto quite a few secrets—secrets that make you wonder just how far someone is willing to go to keep them hidden.

Mara Whitmore has returned home after thirteen years to run her family’s inn, Hawthorn House. A witch, Mara experiences an "echo" whenever she touches an object. The echoes are always true, though Mara's interpretations of them may not be. When Judith leaves a dark green folio behind at the inn, Mara touches it and receives an echo that complicates the investigation into Judith’s death and sends the mystery in a confusing new direction.

I thoroughly enjoyed this cozy mystery. The magical elements make the plot even more intense, interesting, and captivating. I’m already eagerly awaiting the next installment in The Alderfield Witch Mysteries to see what supernatural puzzle Mara has to untangle next.

It is a tight-knit community where neighbors look out for one another, ensuring that nothing endangers their sanctuary and their right to continue living there.

Antonio, a young lawyer, moves into the tower to care for his grandmother, eager to join this idyllic social experiment. But the veneer of perfection cracks when two young men—both considered bad apples and threats to the community's serenity—die in unusual circumstances within a single month. Despite warnings to leave well enough alone, Antonio suspects a connection and digs deeper. He discovers that, in a building designed for total harmony, asking the wrong questions can make you the next problem to be handled. Is there a killer hiding among the residents? Is the billionaire founder protecting his investment? Or is the truth far more terrifying?
