Reason and Romance
by Jenn Young
Release Date: 12/09/14

Book Summary:

Being stuck in the godforsaken desert is Adrian Blake’s worst nightmare come true. Senior year is all about making fun memories. It’s not about starting over at a new school and navigating a new Brady Bunch family. It’s really not about living with a sexy, arrogant would-be stepbrother who knows how to push her buttons.

Alex Montgomery is the very definition of a player. The only thing he commits to is a one night stand. He’s exactly the kind of guy she hates. When she sleeps with him, it’s the biggest mistake of her life. Now she can’t stop thinking about him. Not at school. Not at home.

Sometimes the best mistakes are the ones that you make over and over again…

GUEST POST – YA/NA ROMANCES:

I constantly read because I can’t not. I’m a huge fan of the YA genre, although my tastes are pretty diverse. I love romance, drama, steampunk, paranormal, whatever have you. All I just want is a great story with great characters with great writing. Easy, right? For this post, though, I thought I’d list a few YA/NA romances that I’ve read recently.

Sarina Bowen – Her Ivy Years series is set in college. The characters are sympathetically portrayed with various struggles. Despite the things they go through, they are essentially warm and likable, and I think that’s what I love the most about them. You can actually root for them and like them as actual people. Plus, the romance’s great!

Kristen Callihan – Most people know her for her paranormal series, but recently she’s branched out to New Adult. Her first foray “The Hook Up” had me enthralled by Drew and Anna’s romance. You will end up rooting for them (and for football too!). This is one of the few NAs that I’ve really liked.

Miranda Kenneally – This is a recent find. I’d heard buzz about her, but I finally managed to pick up one of her latest books, and I was just really won over by the sympathetic characters. The heroine is a real girl with up-and-down struggles and the hero is sweet and swoonworthy. I’m now working my way through her backlist.

Katie McGarry – I recently discovered McGarry last year. Her first book was good, but it was her second book that blew me away. I was swept away by the intensity between her fictional couple and the struggles they had to go through. The third and fourth books sucked me in, and now I just gobble up every McGarry book.

All Beatriz “Bia” Fernandes wants is to prove herself—to her family and friends—though it’s hard to prove anything with an overbearing father and three famous polo-playing older brothers. After her acceptance into college results in a heated family argument, the Brazilian girl leaves everything behind to find her own American dream.

College life away from home is perfect until the people she believes to be her friends turn on her. With lies and rumors threatening to suffocate her, Bia turns to her only freedom. Riding. But one thing gets in the way of her escape. Garrett Blackwell and his bad cowboy attitude. Working at the ranch is his obligation, bugging Bia is his newfound hobby. His thick skin and easy grin don't hide what Bia already knows—this misunderstood and lonely cowboy fights his own demons. Brushing horses’ coats and mucking out stalls shouldn't be this sexy, and it isn’t long before he becomes a part of her distraction.

However, escaping won’t solve her problems, and it’s up to Bia to break down the fences around her and prove her strength—not to her family and friends, but to herself … and for Garrett. Because standing on her own doesn't have to mean standing alone.

Release Day Blitz: This Broken World by Eric R. Asher @ericrasher

Vesik, Book 4

An ocean of darkness lives in the journal of Philip Pinkerton. Ancient things with no place in our world are rising from the Abyss. Ezekiel, the arrogant, mad god has called us into battle. Does he think we can't touch him, or does he know we can't? I wish I knew. The world's only hope lies in a forgotten weapon, the strength of our allies, and one necromancer of questionable ancestry. Yeah, this is going to end well.

"When did you learn to scale an incantation without a modifier?" the Old Man asked. His tone was full of humor. He wasn't expecting an actual answer. He already knew the damned answer.
"I …" I stared at the frozen earth, speechless.
"You didn't use a modifier, and yet you clearly used a minas art."
I looked up at him with wide eyes. "I could have turned this entire field into an ice rink."
"And yet, here we are."
"Crazy old bastard," Dell muttered as he stretched out on the rock again. "He could have killed us all."
"Have you ever seen your master do that?" the Old Man asked.
"No," I said. "You and Ezekiel and Edgar are the only people I've seen use non-verbal incantations."
"You still spoke, but you internalized the modifier. Even that could be enough to give you an advantage in a close contest. And the sword." He nodded at the blade.
I let it collapse in on itself and stared at the old hilt.
"Admittedly," the Old Man said, "that is not likely to damage a demon to a significant degree. There are still times where a soulsword is your best bet. I would suggest using someone else's soul for that."
"That's the path of a dark necromancer," I said.

"That is the path of a man who survives."

Eric is a former bookseller, guitarist, and comic seller currently living in Saint Louis, Missouri. A lifelong enthusiast of books, music, toys, and games, he discovered a love for the written word after being dragged to the library by his parents at a young age. When he is not writing, you can usually find him reading, gaming, or buried beneath a small avalanche of Transformers.
