All Aaliyah had ever wanted was to be invisible…

To not be stared at. To not have to display her lifelong pain everywhere she goes. But society is too blind to see that beauty lies beneath the skin.

Aaliyah only reveals her special mark—a facial birthmark—to the closest people in her life. But when Aaliyah’s friend paints her in a portrait titled The Marked One?, her birthmark is exposed to the world. Now no amount of makeup can keep Aaliyah’s secret.

Tristan Gerardo appears to be a successful CEO, but he is hiding many secrets…

What many don’t realize is that his successful public persona is a mask for his own pain—both of losing a sibling, and his failed marriage.

Tristan buys a portrait called The Marked One?, and is shocked when the subject of the portrait arrives for an interview at his company. He pursues Aaliyah, and while she is cautious at first, she feels an ease around Tristan that she’s never experienced before.

Little by little, Tristan’s secrets are exposed…

While Tristan struggles to keep Aaliyah from finding out how his sister died, she discovers he is still married. He assures her she has his full loyalty and the divorce is just a matter of time, and she desperately wants to believe him. But his estranged wife re-enters his life, and Tristan must figure out how to convince Aaliyah that she means the world to him.

How can Tristan make Aaliyah realize that he loves her for herself, and not because of her notoriety as The Marked One?

My Review:

I don’t know which book I liked the best Into The Dark or Into The Light. I think I loved one just as much as the other. I’m not sure which one I actually devoured the quickest. Both were well written and had so many twist and turns I didn’t know which way was up or which way was down. I think I was at the end of the book before I even knew what hit me. I loved being right there with Mercy, Nathaniel and Gage as they went on their journey’s or at least that is how I felt. I would get so lost in Into The Light I would literally not know where or even who I was. Yes Into The Dark series is that good.

Mercy has such a big heart that she would give her own life for any of her family or friends. She cared for both Nathaniel and Gage but she soon realizes there may be more to her and Nathaniel’s relationship than just friends but she doesn’t want to say anything because she knows that would just break Gage’s heart and in no way does she ever want to do that. She is torn between what to do. She is very confused about a lot of things going on her life at the moment.

Mercy finds out about a lot of secrets about herself that her mother kept for her; her whole life. She has her mother back now after losing her when she was only ten years old. Mercy will keep her family together this time if it kills her. But Mercy soon learns that there are some people in her life that have betrayed her. Can she ever trust them again?

Mercy has Gage and Nathaniel chasing after her in more ways than one. Besides the fact that they are both in love with her they have to go chasing after her when she jumps from her body and then hijacks someone else’s’.

Mercy is new to this Breacher stuff and just goes flying all over the place not knowing where she Is going to wake up next. Nathaniel and Gage won’t leave her alone because they are afraid she will jump. But Mercy can jump with both of them looking at her and she does just that and lands herself in jail. Now how is she going to get out of this one? Want to know? Grab your copy of Into The Light to find out.

My Review:

Can you imagine waking up to everybody calling you by your best friend’s name? Well Mercy Clare did just that. She wakes up in the waiting room at the hospital and everyone is calling her Lyla. When she can’t take it anymore she rushes to the bathroom to see for herself and low and behold there is Lyla starring back at her. She is in shock and wondering what happen to her. What is going on? Where is her body?

After the initial shock wears off she starts to remember the night before. It was her birthday and they were all celebrating at a local club where Lyla’s sister Kate works. Lyla was there with her boyfriend Jay and Mercy had gone with the new guy from school Gage. Mercy needed to get some fresh air so she heads out back and that is when all h3ll breaks loose and her nightmares began.

Mercy learns later from Gage as to what is going on. But of course Gage is not telling her everything. It is like pulling teeth to get Gage to tell her anything. But luckily she meets Nathaniel who gives her more information about the whole situation and agrees to help her figure it out. Mercy doesn’t really care who helps her as long as she gets her body back and no one dies in the process.

When I first read the summary for Into The Dark I thought hmm that sounds so interesting and intriguing. I had so many questions. A girl wakes up in someone else’s body. Where is her body? How did she get there? What happened to the person whose body she hijacked? To get my answers there was only one thing to do and that was to read it and read it I did and boy am I ever glad I did.

I really loved the whole idea behind someone jumping from body to body. I don’t think I have ever read anything close to this concept if I have it was nothing like this. Into The Dark is a world all its own. I got so caught up in the story I was half way through before I knew it and then the next thing I knew I was almost through and I was like no way I can’t be almost done. I love books where you don’t realize how fast you are reading it. I can’t wait to get started on the next book Into The Light.

I would recommend Into The Dark to anyone who loves a good story. If you would like to read about someone hijacking someone else’s body then you will love Into The Dark. Grab you copy today!

Release Day Blitz + #Giveaway: The Fall of Lord Drayson by Rachael Anderson @toobusyreading

The Fall of Lord Drayson

The Fall of Lord Drayson by Rachael Anderson

Who is he really? A high and mighty lord or a lowly servant?

When Colin Cavendish, the new earl of Drayson, informs Lucy Beresford that she and her mother need to vacate the house they've called home for the past two years, Lucy is fit to be tied. They have no money, no relations they can turn to for help, and nowhere to go. How dare the earl break the promise his father had made to the Beresfords without so much as a twinge of conscience?

Fate plays her hand when Lucy discovers the earl unconscious and injured in the middle of the road. When he awakens with no recollection of who he is, Lucy seizes the opportunity to teach the earl a much-needed lesson in humility and tells him that he is nothing more than a mere servant. Her servant, in fact.

And thus begins the charming tale of a pompous lord and an impetuous young woman, caught together in a web so tangled that it begs the question: Will they ever get out?

He stared at her incredulously, as though she had escaped Bedlam. “Are you in your right mind, woman?”

Lucy leaned forward and planted her palms on his bed so that her eyes were level with his. “My name is Lucy Beresford. I have lived in Askern all my life. I’m the sole daughter of a vicar and a seamstress who lived most happily despite their differences in station. When my father passed away, I came here, to this dower house. So yes, I am in my right mind. It is you who are not.”

The earl’s jaw clenched, and Lucy took some pleasure at the sight. Perhaps he would come down off his high horse and show at least a small amount of kindness or respect.

“I may not know who I am or where I came from,” he finally said, “but at least I do not feel the need to tell tales.”

“Tell tales?” Lucy gaped at him. Was he accusing her of telling untruths? Her, of all people? What untruths? How dare he!

Lord Drayson glanced down at his fingers, frowning when he spotted grime under his nails. He began to scrape it out as he spoke. “Claiming to be the daughter of a vicar and seamstress is all very romantic, but it cannot possibly be the truth.”

“And why not?” she asked.

His gaze returned to hers. “In my experience, the daughter of a vicar would behave with more decorum, would know how to make a palatable broth, and would never allow herself to be alone in a room with a man who is not her relative. If there is one thing I know with absolute certainty, it is that you are no relation of mine.”

Lucy’s jaw clenched as she fought to control the rage building inside her. Ever so slowly, she pushed herself up to standing and glared down at the earl. “You are correct in thinking I am no ordinary vicar’s daughter. I do not love unconditionally. I show decorum only when I wish to. And I despise those who care for no one but themselves. But I do not tell tales.”

He actually chuckled, but it was more of a scoff than a show of humor. “Did you learn those traits from your father?”

“Do not speak of my father.”

“I would prefer to speak of myself, but you do not seem to share that preference, so perhaps we should speak of your father instead. Where is he, by the by? I would very much like to meet him.”

Lucy’s fingers became fists while her conscience became a battleground between all that was good and evil inside her. It was a short battle, with evil making a quick triumph.

Ever so slowly, her body still trembling with anger, she lifted her chin. If he was going to accuse her of telling tales, then tell them she would. “Very well, Collins. If you must know, I am your employer. And though you may not remember me, or this house, or your position in it, or the fact that you are perf

ectly susceptible to coming off a horse, just like any other human, I still expect some kindness and respect from you.” “What on earth are you talking about? What position?”

There was not a hint of hesitation in her voice when she answered. “You are a servant in this house.”

Kaleidoscope

“Do you remember Emma?” Lucas asked.
“As a matter of fact, I do. It’s a pleasure to see you again.” Abe held my hand. I remembered meeting him at Ray’s auto body shop, although I could have sworn he looked different. Shorter hair, maybe?
“Nice to see you,” I answered, returning his welcoming smile.
“Lucas, did you ever meet my brother, Henrik?” Abe asked.
“Call me Henry,” he said. He shook hands with Lucas first, then reached for my hand and kissed it gently. “Very lovely to meet you, Miss Emma.” He had a hint of an accent. Even though they both looked like they were mid-twenties, Henry acted much older.
I blushed. That kind of attention might be common wherever he came from, but not here in Westport.
“You’re adorable. I didn’t mean to embarrass you, darlin’.”
Drew returned with a tray full of shots before I had time to answer Henry. After introductions, Lucas gave a toast and everyone drank back the whiskey. I didn’t want one, but I drank it anyway. Actually, I choked on it. I didn’t think any of the guys noticed until Henry put his hand on the small of my back and asked if I was okay.
“Yes. Thank you.”
When I looked up at him, I realized he had a beautiful set of ice-gray eyes. The colors were piercing. Shades of white intermixed with hints of silver and turquoise. The longer I stared, the more the hues changed. Blues faded and whites darkened. Chills ran up my arms, but I couldn’t look away. I strained to keep my eyes open despite how heavy my eyelids felt.
A tingling swept over me until I was completely relaxed.
Like a kaleidoscope, Henry’s eye colors swirled. His pupils dilated.
I closed my eyes and saw a young woman with long, brown hair running through tall grass on a sunny afternoon. I felt the warmth on my skin, tilting my head back to catch the rays. I was tired.
Was I floating?
“Emma, can I get you something to drink?” Abe asked. His hand was on my arm. Stunned, I stared up at him. Did I just fall asleep?
I shook my head quickly. “I’m okay,” I mumbled. My eyes were dry and sore, and the strange sensation, the warm, comforting feeling I had, was gone.
Did I just imagine that?

Blurb Blitz + #Giveaway: Recall by David McCaleb @McCalebBooks @GoddessFish

Recall
by David McCaleb
GENRE: Contemporary Thriller

BLURB:

Meet Red Harmon, a special ops veteran who learns he never left the call of duty . . .

To a trio of muggers, Red looks like just another suburban dad. But when they demand his wallet at knifepoint, something snaps. In the blink of an eye, two muggers are dead, the third severely injured, and Red doesn’t remember a thing. Once an elite member of the Det, a secret forces outfit whose existence is beyond classified, Red thought his active service was over.

But his memory is coming back—and a lethal killing machine is returning to duty . . .

Facing an unthinkable nuclear threat, a volatile international power play, and a personal attack against his family, Red has no choice. He must rejoin his old team, infiltrate the enemy camp, and complete the biggest mission of his life . . .

Excerpt:

Tony “Red” Harmon yawned as he rubbed burning, fatigued eyes with a palm. His cuff slipped back from his watch. 9:47 P.M. Too late for the family to be out. Nick dragged his feet on concrete, cheeks puffy, hand gripping Red’s index finger. So tired he didn’t even ask for a treat as they walked out of Walmart, past the candy machines. He looked up, snot glistening under a pink nose. Red winked at him, surprised yet again how his son looked like he’d cloned his mother’s eyes.

The shopping cart was full of things they needed, but didn’t want. School supplies and vegetables. A wheel with a flat spot clacked a steady cadence as Red pushed it under a rush of warm air blowing from above, into the January chill outside. How’d he always end up with the broken ones? He pushed with one hand, straining his wrist to keep the thing straight, pulling Nick with the other. He stepped slowly, careful not to slip on the frozen pavement. Just ahead, little Penny held Jackson’s hand so tight his fingers were turning blue. Her head was high. She was obviously pleased Dad thought she was mature enough to guide her younger brother through the perils of the parking lot.

Hope his fingers don’t go numb, Red thought.
