Blog Tour: The Flip by Michael Phillip Cash @michaelpcash @WWVBT

The Flip By: Michael Phillip Cash

Blurb

Julie and Brad Evans are house flippers. They buy low, clean out the old occupants' junk, and try to make a profit. Enter Hemmings House on Bedlam Street in scenic Cold Spring Harbor, Long Island. Too good a deal to pass up, but with an ominous secret. The old Victorian Mansion has dwellers that do not want to be dispossessed. As the house reveals it's past, will the couple's marriage survive The Flip?

From Publisher's Weekly- The Flip

Michael Phillip Cash (Stillwell) again succeeds in setting an engaging supernatural thriller in the world of Long Island real estate, though he's stronger at depicting human relationships than he is at generating scares. Julie and Brad Evans have hinged their hopes of financial security on house flipping, a work-intensive strategy that offers them few opportunities for relaxation. Brad has misgivings about their latest acquisition, a creepy Victorian mansion, ominously situated on Bedlam Street in Cold Spring Harbor. Those feelings are validated when he's victimized by Tessa, a voracious female ghost with very carnal appetites. Cash is effective at creating his version of the afterlife, where ghosts like Tessa exist in fear of more powerful entities known as the Sentinels. His best work comes, however, in his plausible portrayal of a marriage under stress from the need to hustle to stay solvent. (BookLife)

Chapter Twenty

I said I'm not going back there. That house is haunted. There, I've said it. It's a haunted house." "Julie!" Heather protested. "Stop that. You are so much better than this."

Brad sighed. "Look, I'll call Sal. His girlfriend works or that medium you talked about. If she comes with us to the house, will you come home?"

"It isn't home, Brad. I thought you hated the house."

"I did. I do. Well, it's been kind to us," he said.

"Are you nuts? What are you talking about?"

"The crap we've pulled out of there. We stand to make a considerable amount of money. I feel like the house is sort of saving us. Come home with me, Julie."

Julie looked at his face, the lines of worry around his eyes. She put her hand in his, asking, "You'll call the lady, Georgia?"

Brad pulled out his phone and dialed Sal. "Hi. Yeah, fine. Listen, Sal, you think you can ask Molly if she can get the psychic out to Bedlam House? Just because. For Julie. OK, call me back." He turned to his wife. "He's calling. He said he's sure he can get her out there. She was interested in the house when he had coffee with her last week."

"He had coffee with her?" Heather asked. "Small world."

"What should I do?" Julie asked her sister.

"You know what you should do. You belong with Brad. Go home, Julie. Go confront your ghosts."

     "You don't believe me?"

"I think you believe you've had a ghostly encounter. But, honestly, I think you're just overtired."

"Come with us, Heather. Maybe if you're there, you'll see it, too."

"Just go with Brad. Call me." Heather kissed her sister. "It will be fun—the psychic—go on."

Brad's phone rang loudly. It was Sal. Georgia Oaken had agreed to visit them tomorrow morning. Everybody was looking forward to it. Sort of.

My Review Olivia Decoded:

Olivia is back Yay! She is living with her grandfather now. It has been eight months since she has seen Jack “Z” and Sam. Jack and Olivia decided with living so far apart they would not try to have a relationship. That way they could spend all their time concentrating on school, graduating and then college. Olivia misses Jack but this is for the best for both of them. They have been through a lot in the past and they both need to grow and move on and leave the past behind if possible.

Jack misses Olivia something fierce but he knows living with her grandfather is the best thing for Olivia right now is to be with family. Besides he still has a lot on his plate that he needs to deal with before he can be with her. Jack wants and knows that his family at the group home and still needs him to help out with things like food, clothes, bills...ect.

Jack also still has this problem hanging over him. Yeah Jack is having a hard time with hacking. He is not quite ready to give it up and Olivia knows this and that is why she has let him go so he can deal with it. She can’t make him do it he has to do it on his own.

But when Olivia starts receiving gifts from a secret admirer on Valentine’s Day she turns to Jack and Sam for help. At first she thinks the gifts are from her grandfather but when he tells her that he didn’t send them. She then thinks they are from Jack and that is why she contacts him in the beginning.

Now the race is on to find out who is sending her gifts and stalking her. The question is who would want to hurt her? Why are they sending her gifts? What do they want with her? Can Olivia, Jack and Sam find out who is stalking her before it is too late and someone ends up dead?

If I was asked to choose which book I liked the best, Olivia Twisted or Olivia Decoded I don’t think I could. I loved both of them equally and am so glad I had the opportunity to read them. I think I cried just as much or more with Olivia Decoded as I did with Olivia Twisted. I loved the computer stuff and hacking in both books but I also loved reading about Olivia and her life. I loved Jack and Sam’s story too although I would like to have known more about Jack. What is his story? What is Sam’s story? I would love to have known more about a lot of the characters. What about Maggie? What is her story as well? And then there is Nancy, Dutch, Jen and all the other kids at the group home.

I am so glad that I got to read both Olivia Decoded and Olivia Twisted and I hope this is not the last I have seen of Olivia, Jack and all of their friends. If you have not read Olivia and Jack’s story yet; then I would like to suggest that you do but I would say start with Olivia Twisted first as you don’t want to miss how it all started.

Read below for an excerpt from Olivia Decoded:

"Wow, who gave you that?"

"My grandfather. He left it on my car seat this morning."

"Oh, boo. I thought maybe you had a secret admirer or something." I try not to smile at her obvious disappointment. Emerson's been on me to date for months now. She knows I had someone back in Richmond who was special, but only that we broke it off before I moved here. She doesn't know anything else about Jack. No one does, because what would I say? The last guy I dated is a criminal, and the last time I saw him was right after we got kidnapped by his horrible boss and almost died trying to escape. That'd go over really well.

"I don't know, what do you think?" Emerson breaks into my thoughts as we walk down the hallway to our lockers.

"About what?"

She sighs. "Where Kade's taking me tonight. Girl, you are not with it today, are you? Are you doing anything tonight?"

"My grandfather's taking me to dinner."

"Sweet. Not so romantic, but sweet."

I smile. "Yes, he's sweet. But a little over the top on gifts sometimes." Even after eight months of living the wealthy life, I'd be happier if he gave me a gift card to a bookstore instead of extravagant jewelry I rarely wear.

My phone starts buzzing, and I pull it from my pocket. Grandfather's text reads: What gift?

I frown, typing, The bracelet you left in my car. I snap a quick picture of the bracelet on my wrist and send it to him. Maybe his text was a hint to send a picture, though I doubt it. He's usually pretty direct about things.

"What's up?" Emerson asks.

"Looks like Grandfather forgot he left me the bracelet." But even as I say it, it doesn't sound right. He's one of the sharpest people I've ever known, and he runs a financial institution.

"Maybe he gave it to one of his staff to put in your car." Her voice has the usual bitter tone whenever she's thinking of her parents. They're hardly ever around, and when they are, they don't pay much attention to her.

"Yeah, you're probably right." I don't believe that, though. Even though it's possible Mrs. Bedwin did put it there, I doubt it. Grandfather is the type to handle things himself when it comes to me. But Emerson's parents travel so much for their business that they often let their staff handle things like birthdays and other events they think aren't important. So as grateful as I am that Grandfather's always there for me, I don't like to rub that in Emerson's face.

"Maybe you really do have a secret admirer," she says hopefully.

I roll my eyes."I doubt that."

"Oh, really?" She stops in her tracks, her eyes fixed straight ahead. I follow her gaze, a sharp sense of dread creeping down my spine. A white rose is dangling from the vent in my locker.

A rose I know wasn't placed there by my grandfather.

Whatever You Call Me
Leigh Fleming
Publication date: September 20th 2016
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Annie Cooper is fed up with Washington. More importantly, she’s done with being Senator George Cooper’s daughter and all the expectations that come with it. She changes her name and tries to start fresh after quitting her job, but the only position she can find is in the political world she despises.

Kip Porter is a two-term congressman from a blue collar district along the shores of the Chesapeake Bay whose ambition leads him astray from the core values he—and his constituents—hold dear. He needs Senator Cooper’s backing to get his bill through the Senate and plans to use Annie to do it.

What starts out as a simple game of hidden identity soon becomes complicated. Annie wants to prove her worth on her own terms, but the closer she grows to Kip, the more she needs to come clean. With unexpected romance blossoming between them, will Kip keep his own secrets, or reveal the truth in the name of love?

(This is a stand alone romance – you do not need to read Best Friends Book 1 to enjoy this title).

EXCERPT:

Annie felt the sting and quickly slapped the mosquito nibbling on her calf. They’d been sitting in the grassy field for over an hour waiting for the tow truck to arrive. The subs had long ago been eaten, but they lounged on the trunk carpet sipping what was left of their fountain drinks.
“Damn, it’s hot.” Kip began unbuttoning his shirt and pulling the tail out of his pants. “I’ve got to get out of these clothes.”
Purposely looking the opposite direction, Annie fought the urge to take a glimpse of a shirtless Kip, but instead looked out at the baking weeds in the field. She jerked upright when she heard his belt buckle clink.
“What are you doing?” she shrieked.
“I’m getting out of these clothes. I’m burning up.” Kip tramped to the car, walking around to the driver’s side back door, and leaned inside where Annie couldn’t see. She strained her neck and rose up on her knees, stretching to see what he was doing. A few minutes later he returned to their makeshift picnic spot wearing gym shorts, a T-shirt, and sneakers. Annie dropped back onto the carpet and pulled up a few blades of grass as Kip dropped beside her.
“Disappointed?” he whispered in her ear.
“Huh?”
“You heard me.”
“Why would I be disappointed?”
“You were hoping I was going to strip down.” He wiggled his eyebrows and nudged his shoulder into hers.
“Oh, please.” She went back to weeding the field, furiously yanking blades of grass and letting them flutter in the humid breeze.
“Come on, Coach. I saw the look on your face when I started unbuttoning my shirt.”
“Get over yourself.” She shoved back and then stood up, brushing the dust from her dress. “Should you call them again to see where the truck is?”
“What, don’t you like our little picnic?”
“Porter…seriously, we need to get back.” Annie glared at Kip where he lay on the carpet, resting his head in his hands.
“Relax, it will be here soon. Come lay down with me.” He patted his hand on the carpet and gave her his most salacious grin.
“Not a chance.”
“Come on…what are you afraid of?”
Annie stared at Kip, taking a tendril in her hand and twisting it tightly around her finger. She glanced over her shoulder at the car and then back at him, now lying on his side with his head resting on his hand. He patted the carpet once more and invited her over with a swoosh of his hand.
“Fine,” she said, joining him on the carpet and mimicking his relaxed position.
“Tell me about the mechanic.”
“I already told you. We dated in high school and he taught me all about cars.”
“Nah…there’s got to be more to the story.” Annie watched Kip’s soft lips curl at the corners. The memory of him leaning in to kiss her earlier in the day flashed through her mind. She sighed and flipped flat on her back.
“Not really. My father hated him…thought he wasn’t a good influence. We didn’t date long.”
“This is the first I’ve heard about your dad. You’ve never mentioned your family, actually. What do they do?”
“Oh, um…” Annie closed her eyes against the bright sun. “My dad is an attorney and my mom is a professional party giver.” Not a total lie.
“Sound like interesting people. I’d like to meet them.”
