The Heart’s Journey Home: A Layover in Doppelganger-Ville
Nikki Jackson
(The Heart’s Journey Home, #2)
Publication date: April 30th 2016
Genres: Contemporary, Young Adult
Picking up where The Heart’s Journey Home: California Blend Summer Vacation leaves off, book two in the series follows seventeen-year-old Tori Logan as she and her best friends, AJ and Kalea, accompany Tori’s archeologist father to Israel.
Tori Logan is used to her life looking a little different from the lives of other girls her age. She’s also used to having plenty of adventures, so when she and her best friends see an excavated quarry in one of Jerusalem’s most famous archeological sites, they waste no time checking it out for themselves. Adventurous and fiercely independent, Tori leads her friends into the quarry where they happen upon what appears to be a secret passageway. As the trio laughs and jokes, small rumblings turn into big quakes and the walls start to crumble around them. Kalea and AJ escape, but the site collapses before Tori can find her way out.
When she comes regains consciousness, Tori realizes she’s traveled back in time to ancient Jerusalem. With her quick wit and drive to survive, she concocts a story about why she, a foreigner, is there and finds shelter with a widow woman named Judith – who looks exactly like her father’s live-in girlfriend, Rachel.
As Tori encounters other people who are spitting images of loved ones back at home, she must reconcile truths about herself with the hard realities about the situation in which she finds herself. But will these lessons last once she’s back at home?
Will she even make it home?

My Weird Fascination….
I have a weird fascination and its scary movies.
I remember back in the day when the movie The Exorcist debuted. It was 1973 and no movie like it had ever really be made and it was the scariest thing in town. To this very day I’ve never seen that movie. I read the reviews and watched the news spots and that was more than enough to keep me away from it. There were reports of moviegoers crying, fainting and throwing up (especially during the head spinning around part), all because they’d been so affected by what was going on with the little demon possessed girl.
The scariest movie I’ve ever seen in life to date was The Ring. I got caught up in the premise: watch the video, get the phone call, dead in seven days. The curious side of my brain just knew there was a safe, logical way out of this and I wanted to see how the latest victim would beat the curse. I still don’t know how the movie ended. When that little kid came out of that well I started screaming.
I was screaming at the guy watching this play out on his TV to turn it off and get out of there. He didn’t hear me. He just sat there spellbound while that kid came out of that well and was moving, like some weird stop-action closer and closer, and then shocks of shocks….when that kid climbed through the TV set….I’m surprised the neighbors didn’t call the police, I was a hot screaming mess. It was like she’d climbed through my TV set and into my living room. That’s the last thing I remember.
I turned on every light in the house (why did I watch it at night, alone?), made sure all the doors and windows were locked (twice) and I spent the night on the sofa with a blanket over my head praying to still be alive with the new day’s dawn.
Here’s what’s so intriguing – that hot mess of a movie was first a writer’s creation. Somebody sat down and imagined it and then wrote it down. As traumatizing as that movie was to me, the thought that a writer wrote it is fantastic. Don’t you see? I was scared and traumatized and ready to throw-up and pee all at the same time – I was physically and emotionally and yes, psychologically effected and caught up and spent and I didn’t even last the whole movie!
As a writer I don’t want to scare the bejeezus out of anyone, but I want to take the reader on an exhilarating, crazy wild rollercoaster ride. I want the reader to be giddy, shocked, angry, moved, excited, teased, floored, bowled over – and happily spent when they finish reading a book of mine. I want to pull the reader out of their present setting and take them on the journey of a story with me and my characters. I want to give the reader a break from life as they know it and I want them to eagerly join me on an imagined adventure.
Sure, I’d like to make a million bucks writing, but when I really think about it? I’d rather prefer making a million friends.
Author Bio:
Nikki Jackson considers herself to be an Indie Writer, Journeyman and Traveler. She's camped out in the Grand Canyon just to see the sunrise over a stupendous backdrop and she yet dreams to travel to Mount Everest, not to climb any part of it but to simply stand at the North Base Camp and take it all in, in person. Nikki's love of adventure was inspired at an early age at the local library where she spent summers reading about young travelers going cross-country and around the world. She loved the adventures that took her out of the bottom bunk of her bed (her favorite reading spot) and had her soaring across the clouds to lands filled with wonderful and diverse people. It was then and there Nikki decided she wanted to be a writer - she wanted to have the same effect on people reading books had on her. The Heart's Journey Home is the beginning of the adventure.

Excerpts from a couple of books included in this boxed set:
SANDS OF SEDUCTION
She took a deep breath; was there ever a good time? She must do it; accept it, not hide away anymore. Right now she needed a roof over her head and a job far away from the taunts and stares.
Clary heard the letterbox of the front door, snap shut. The post, it was never ending; every day she gathered up over half a dozen envelopes and yet more leaflets, more dead trees. As she slammed the spam into the recycle bin, a glossy photo caught her eye. Her heart leapt, just what she was looking for; a cottage for sale in a picturesque hamlet, nestling at the foot of a forest in the South Downs. It was half way across the country, but the further the better. She frowned reading the message, maybe it was just a general advert, but it seemed personal.Delighted you are reading this. I invite you to make an appointment as soon as possible. Your dream cottage by the sea is waiting for you; within easy reach of Brighton and London.
Phone or email Cecil Partridge now, don’t hesitate.
02890 760723 cpartridge@tellomail.co.uk
After pouring a fresh cup of coffee, she picked up the leaflet, taking it to the small dining room, serving as an office. Sitting at the PC, she bent to stroke the head of her white retriever, gazing up at her with those brown soulful eyes. ‘Would you like to live by the beach? Run on the sands, swim in the sea?’
Lila raised her head, with a huge smile, a pink tongue lolling out of her black lips. ‘Yes you would wouldn’t you. Okay – let’s do it. Right now.’ Clary googled ‘MoveNow’, the best website for buying and selling houses or apartments. She tried to swallow the hurt; it seemed so strange searching for property without Theo by her side. It was impossible to ban the memories, the grief. Clenching her teeth, she rubbed away the tears stinging her eyes; dread welled up. Fight it Clary, fight it. Her chest tightened, as she forced herself to search the list of properties for sale. After only a few seconds of scrolling along, she recognized the hamlet. There was more information on the list; it was near a medieval market town with an ancient castle. The tiny village was a picture postcard, composed of cottages either side of a cobbled street, with a village store. The price was low and within her range. It was all she needed or wanted.

THE GEEK GETS THE GIRL
According to the wrinkled strip of paper taped over the original brass placard on the office door, Rachel Parker was the manager of the Paris Haute Heels office. Zac assumed Miss Parker was the woman who strode down the parquet-floored aisle between cubicles with the air of a confident runway model, red heels clicking smartly. Not even the weight of the office supplies she carried could lower her proud jaw. Juggling a coffee cup in one hand, file folders, binders, purse and briefcase in the crook of an elbow—not to mention a mouthful of pink phone messages—she shrugged by Zac where he stood in the doorway to her office, and lunged toward the glass-topped desk to release her burden.
Those breathy pants ceased, and the woman whose curves he’d just mastered in a matter of three fantasy seconds stood staring at him, green eyes narrowed in stern summation.
Conjuring a save to cover the distraction that had almost netted him the yellow flag, he tapped the paper taped over the door’s nameplate. “Snazzy décor you’ve got here, Miss Parker.”
“Cutbacks. Tightening the proverbial office belt. It works for me.” Long coils of chestnut hair danced over the spill of office ephemera as she nestled the paper coffee cup into a nook amidst the scatter.
“And you have finally arrived.”
She caught his surprise and reacted, propping a manicured hand on her hip. “Seriously? How long does it take for IT to process a call for help? I know all eight private offices in this building share one tech department, but you must have more than one guy to handle service calls.”
“IT?” Nowadays, he generally put his fingers on sales figures, outlook charts, and the butter-soft leather in the company jet. Zachary Cosgrove had moved up from humble IT guy. Way up. “Oh, you assume—”

Calling the Reaper
by Jason Pere
GENRE: Dark Fantasy
BLURB:
The
time of the Unity has ended. Now, the realm of man is stranded between Paradise
and Purgatory. The Valkyrie and Reaper battle over the fate of all who pass from
the land of the living and into the afterlife.
Eight mortal spirits from vastly different worlds tread the same, inevitable path toward their last, crucial decision. Within them all exists the defining conflict every man must face—to look upon the end of their life with glory and honor, or to give credence to their baser longings, calling the Reaper to their own demise.
In this rich, harrowing tale of pride, deceit, honor, vengeance, and redemption, each individual must battle their inner turmoil, facing the sacrifices they have made before their unavoidable end in the land of the living.
But their last day in life is also their first day of death amidst the terrors of the underworld. Lord Master Death wants them all…and the real battle has only just begun.

EXCERPT:
It was said he could not be defeated.
It was said he had slain over ten thousand warriors. It was said he had lived
for nine hundred years and would live for nine hundred more. It was said that
his father was the strike of lightning and his mother the winter’s frost, that
he traded his spirit to a demon for the strength of twenty men. It was said his
blades were forged from the teeth of dragons and his armor fashioned from the
bones of giants.
No one knew how much was myth and
how much truth save for this: he was the Fist of the Shogunate, the finest of
warriors and the most brutal of killers. His thirst for blood and glory was
unquenchable. His name was Kenji Rei.
In the final days of autumn, the air
was filled with the crisp bite of the coming winter. The Emperor’s court found
itself covered in the shadow of falling leaves and petals as the morning wind
stripped the trees bare. Two men stood before an audience of some of the most
prestigious men in the empire, including the Emperor himself.
The first man was a formidable
bladesman of impressive lineage. Hoshi Okami was regarded far and wide as the
pride of the Kobiko Dojo, the oldest and most exclusive school in all the
empire. It admitted no more than four new students a year. Those Kobiko
students were all remarkably gifted and skilled warriors in their own right,
and they required not only one but two letters of recommendation from the most
venerable Senseis in the empire before they could even petition for admittance.
Above any living practitioner, and
arguably any practitioner of the Kobiko art who had ever lived, Hoshi Okami
stood a paragon of the way of the warrior. To date, he had never declined a
challenge and had fought precisely two hundred and eleven duels, winning each
and every one of them. He was about to fight his two hundred and twelfth. Hoshi
Okami currently served as the bodyguard and principle advisor to General Aiko
Mastay. Okami’s opponent, and the second man before the gathered audience, was
Kenji Rei, personal champion of the Shogun and Fist of the Shogunate.
My Review:
In Calling the Reaper we have eight different tales with
each character fighting battles of their own choosing. The Valkyrie and Reaper
are both fighting to get their hands on each character. Each of our characters
thinks they are making the right call in their decisions. They are doing what
is right for them. They believe they are making the right call for themselves
at that time in their life. The choices and decisions they make will determine
if they will end up in paradise or purgatory.
Each character is making the right choice for them. I have
always heard that everyone has a price and I use to always argue that point
saying that no everyone does not have price but alas I have discovered over the
years that I was totally wrong. Yes everybody has a price. Although my price at
the time may not have had the outcome that we were on the time of what we both
were discussing I still had a price. We set this price when making the choices
we make and then we pay the price whether we are aware of it at the time or
not.
Each of the characters was very strong and determined people
who set out to do a very good thing but may not have been good for them in the
end. They each have very big hearts and are set on doing what is right and
maybe it is the right choice for them no matter what the end results are.
The message in Calling the Reaper is a very good one and I
have enjoyed reading it. If you like a good story with a message attached to it
then Calling the Reaper is the story for you. Get your copy today!

Falling
for Shock
Oliver Hannel, England’s sexiest new star, has finally moved from the television screen to the silver screen, playing comic book hero The Shock in Hollywood’s upcoming blockbuster. While filming one summer night in the midwestern town of Greenfield, Indiana, Oliver finds himself witnessing a crime in progress. Will he embrace his inner superhero and save the day? Or will he remember he isn’t invincible and call for help?
Layla Brooks is a small town girl with a big spirited heart, especially when it comes to her twin sister, Lucy. She’ll rest at nothing to protect her from a casino mogul’s henchman bent on collecting a debt… even if that includes taking her sister’s punishment. But a strange suited man out from the shadows isn’t about to let that happen.
Oliver and Layla’s opposite worlds collide with a Bam! But are either of them ready for the lies, truth and lust that comes along with a relationship born of shock? Or will their love come and go as fast as a bolt of lightning?
Falling for Freedom
FBI Special Agent Cara Giosino is ballsy and relentless when it comes to justice. When she finds herself in London in furious pursuit of the notorious casino mogul and crime lord Feng Khai, she must give up her solo act and rely upon the fearless Interpol agent who caught Khai the first time.
Edward Hannel is not the man he once was. Tragedy has struck him down, leaving him a shell of his former self. He wants nothing to do with Interpol or the sexy Agent Giosino and her plan to take down the criminal who extorted his brother two years prior. That is until he discovers the madman’s vengeance is still focused on his family.
As they race to capture Khai and protect Edward’s family, neither Cara nor Edward realizes the depth to which this case will take them or how fast their partnership will bloom. And they certainly don’t expect to find such bliss in each other's arms when they finally give in to letting go and being free.

PROLOGUE
1997
Washington D.C.
U.S.A
“Hi. I’m Cara Giosino and I’m here
in the J. Edgar Hoover building learning how to be an FBI agent—Ugh! That
sucked.”
Cara clicked the remote to her dad’s
video camera so she could start all over again. She tossed her hair over her
shoulder, happy to see that it fluttered like one of those shampoo commercials
all black and flowy in the view finder screen. Maybe she could make her sixth
grade career day video on being a hair model instead. No, no, no she wanted to
be an agent just like her dad, a few doors down from where she was in the
conference room where she was recording. Everyone in her family worked for some
big government agency and so would she one day. Uncle Tommy worked in the Las
Vegas field office FBI and her grandpa was in the CIA, though no one knew where
he was at the moment.
Her eye caught the clock on the
wall. It was almost lunchtime. She had to get going. Her dad was taking her out
for pizza. Clearing her throat nice and loud, Cara clicked record and started
again, this time flashing a big smile for the camera. “Coming to you live from
the J. Edgar Hoover building, it’s the future Special Agent Cara Giosino.” She
tisked and shook her head. “That sucked too. I sound like a stupid game show
guy.”
She reset again, got serious and got
rid of her cheesy grin. “Hi. I’m with my dad, head of the D.C. Counterterrorism
Division, at the FBI. My name is Cara Giosino and when I grow up I want to be
just like h—“
RAT TAT TAT TAT TAT TAT!!
A ferocious, loud, mechanical noise
made her jump and scream, holding her ears. She dropped to the ground, landing
on her purple book bag. Other people were screaming and yelling too, the kind
of hollering that sounded hurt and scared. Was that gunfire?
