An Eye of the Storm Novelette

Ryan is the only one who fully remembers the series of events that took place five months ago, the night of Himet and Yemet's storm. Having experienced the death of two of his mates, having fought to keep his third alive, and having to overcome the realisation he unwittingly sent Hendrickson and Amelia into what would become their tomb, he finds himself battling flashbacks of murdering Nikolai and in doing so, forcing torturous pain – and perhaps death – upon Nikolai's mate, Carrie.

As Lydia goes into labour, the imminent arrival of their first three children – innocent of every dark thing in the world – has him questioning all his choices, and the need to find Carrie, whether alive or dead, becomes a thirst he cannot quench.

Publisher's note: After the Storm is a series of novelettes that take place at relevant points in the immediate months and years after Eye of the Storm. They concentrate on the healing our characters need to go through after everything that happened. They do not need to be read to understand the main story – they are additional reads for fans that also contain 'Easter eggs' for what is to come.

My Review:

Sins of the Father is the third book in the After the Storm series by Dianna Hardy. I was thrilled to reconnect with Lydia, Ryan, Lawrence, and Taylor once more. I fell in love with this universe in the first installment, Releasing the Wolf, which kicked off the Eye of the Storm Series.

In fact, I often measure every new werewolf novel against the Eye of the Storm series. I am constantly searching for the next tale that resonates like the one I discovered in Eye of the Storm, but so far, I haven’t encountered anything that comes close.

I’ve mentioned numerous times about books that linger in my mind for years, but with the Eye of the Storm series, this sentiment holds more truth than ever, as it has remained with me since I first read Releasing the Wolf. I still vividly recall Lydia leaving her workplace and catching a glimpse of her wolves while heading to her car. I can picture their first gathering when the lightning struck during the storm.

I have also enjoyed the After the Storm series and the chance to reconnect with our beloved characters, Lydia, Ryan, Lawrence, and Taylor. Each narrative in the After the Storm series reveals more about each character, with each book focusing on a different individual.

Sins of the Father centers on Ryan’s journey and the emotional turmoil he faces stemming from the events of the last book in the Eye of the Storm series, Reign of the Wolf. It explores Ryan's feelings and struggles in the wake of that dreadful night, as well as Lydia welcoming their three sons into the world.

I eagerly anticipate delving into the next book, Jewels of the Crown, to discover more about Lawrence’s experiences and challenges. Above all, I look forward to returning to this world and reconnecting with Lydia, Ryan, Lawrence, Taylor, and hopefully their three boys.

I strongly suggest picking up a copy of Sins of the Father today. I also encourage you to grab copies of all the books in both the Eye of the Storm and After the Storm series.

Check out all the books in the After the Storm Series I’ve read.

A peek into the Underground Railroad and the tumultuous period before the American Civil War.

In 1833 Philadelphia, the northern states of America were changing, and not everyone was keen on altering the status quo. Black slaves were being freed, and new slaves were no longer allowed.

But the southern states didn't always agree. Natives were being thrown out of their homes for living too close to gold, and escaped black slaves were being hunted down. Jesse Eastman controls the affluent Eastman Empire and frees a former slave, his half-sister Georgina. But some family members don't like it.

When an estranged brother gets the idea to let a ruthless gang of property buyers initiate a takeover, all hell breaks loose.

1833 Brothers & Sisters will pull you into an old western-style family saga, filled with greed, marital love, family conflict, and smoking gun shootouts

Excerpt:

Jesse grasped the large oak front door. “You are no longer an Eastman,” Jesse stated angrily. “Get out.”

I live here too,” Billy stated incredulously.

Not any longer,” Jesse replied.

I have my belongings here.”

I will have the servants collect your belongings and deliver them to you by carriage.”

You can’t do this!” Billy yelled, indignantly.

I sure can!” Jesse shouted back, systematically rolling up his sleeves. “I noticed that you signed this agreement today, probably at Bartholomew’s office, and you came here right after. Big mistake, Billy. You are officially estranged from the Eastman Empire as of today. Get out and don’t come back. Your signature officially means nothing as of today.” Jesse straightened his shoulders and braced himself for the physical fight. “We have witnesses to attest to this.” Jesse waved his arms around the room.

Billy’s eyes darted toward the stairs where Zee was watching the entire event unfold, and to the hallway where several servants gathered from the kitchen. Almost ten people stared at Billy, waiting for his next move.

You always were the one that Father hated,” Billy sneered, hoping that his brother would do something stupid.

Jesse leapt at Billy. The younger brother took a few steps back and narrowly escaped the range of Jesse’s arms.

Jesse came closer and growled in Billy’s face angrily. “If you don’t leave now, I will pick you up myself and throw you out.”

My Review:

1833 Brothers & Sisters is an excellent sequel in The Eastman Saga by J.A. Boulet. After finishing the first book, Whichever Way The Road Leads, I was eager to delve into 1833 Brothers & Sisters. I was excited to discover more about Jessie, Zee, and Georgina to find out their current situations and what challenges they are facing in their lives.

I take pleasure in reading novels like Whichever Way The Road Leads and 1833 Brothers & Sisters. I enjoy traveling back in time to explore our history and understand how events unfolded. I adore the era and their way of life, including the fashion of the time.

The imagery was so vividly described that I easily envisioned everything as if I were part of that world. 1833 Brothers & Sisters was crafted so effectively that I was drawn into the narrative right from the start and was instantly enchanted by it. The storyline kept me engaged from start to finish.

The characters are all delightful and charming. There are a few exceptions. Some individuals will go to great lengths to get what they want, leading to conflicts between brothers. Billy, Jessie’s sibling, wanted to sell off some of the Eastman property, but Jessie was firmly against it. He was determined to prevent it from happening during his lifetime.

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading all of J.A. Boulet’s works and am eager to see what she has planned for her next tale. I am definitely looking forward to discovering where she will lead us next in The Eastman Saga universe.

I highly recommend anyone interested in stories about the past and our history to grab a copy of 1833 Brothers & Sisters today!
