Blurb:
A locked house. A vanished intruder. A truth thirty years in the making.
When a dead man’s secrets seep through a shared wall in Eaton Terrace, Lady Theodora Ashcombe uncovers a mystery that refuses to stay buried, and a killer who refuses to be caught.
During Miss Clarissa Whitcomb’s flawless society debut, the unthinkable happens; she collapses in the centre of the ballroom. The physician whispers “fainting.” Lady Theodora Ashcombe’s spaniel, Pip, smells poison.
Within minutes, Theo is drawn into a dangerous investigation amid London’s highest society. Torn letters hint at blackmail. A missing bracelet hides damning secrets. A fencing master, a jilted suitor, and a furious milliner all have motives, and only one of them intended the poisoned gloves for Clarissa.
When the gloves prove to be meant for Lady Whitcomb herself, the case twists into something far darker. Someone wants the powerful Whitcomb family ruined… or dead.
With Inspector Hargrave trying (and failing) to keep her out of danger, and Pip tracking clues others overlook, Theo races to stop the killer before they strike again. But in a ballroom full of polished manners and hidden grudges, even the genteel wear masks—and some are lethal.
Perfect for fans of light Victorian mysteries, clever heroines, slow-burn tension, and an intelligent little spaniel who always sniffs out trouble.
My Review:
The Case of the Phantom Tenant is yet another fantastic addition to the eighth book in the Lady Theodora Ashcoombe Mystery series by Daisy Landish. I find myself completely engrossed in the adventures of Theo and Pip throughout this series. Once I dive into one of these tales, I simply cannot put it down; they are so enthralling that they hold my attention from the very first page.
From the outset, I am spellbound by the narrative, filled with numerous twists and turns that keep coming. There are always mysteries for Theo and Pip to unravel. I truly believe that Theo wouldn’t be able to crack these cases without Pip’s assistance. Pip excels at uncovering clues and guiding Theo to the next lead. This adorable and clever pup adds an extra layer of excitement to the stories.
The Case of the Phantom Tenant uncovers a multitude of secrets and betrayals that have remained concealed for years following Mr. Drysden’s death. The revelation of these truths could lead to significant pain and turmoil. For many years, ghosts have lingered in the adjacent room, waiting for someone to finally acknowledge their presence.
The Case of the Phantom Tenant kept me on the edge of my seat from the very first page to the last, with no dull moments in between. I eagerly anticipate the release of the next installment in the Lady Theodora Ashcoombe Mystery series. I am excited to discover what mystery Theo and Pip will tackle next.
I wholeheartedly recommend picking up a copy of The Case of the Phantom Tenant today!
