Free Until the End of 2016
Imagine yourself, born into the suburbs, your parents working class people, your school nothing special.
Imagine that, for some reason far beyond your understanding as a very young child, a god that you didn't even know existed ear-marked you as his bargaining chip in a trade across realities.
Imagine that, from the time of that first first meeting and for your next eighteen years, that god - Anubis - threw everything he could think of at you, to break you, to torment you, to forge you into this thing to be traded.
And imagine that, at the end of it all, you passed all of the tests, leaving your life in a shambles, never knowing that you were being tested at all and, when the time came, Anubis appeared and tricked you into giving up your soul to him, only to make the trade and give you over to another god, named War, who by comparison made Anubis seem like a pretty nice guy.
I'm Randy Morden - welcome to my world. A world named 'Fovea,' where magic is real, technology the stuff of fantasy, and warriors with swords ride horses into battle, trying to stay one step ahead of their gods' will. I didn't ask for this life, but I promise you: before anyone ever knocks me down again, I'm going to have their blood on my knuckles, because a man can only be pushed so far!
Other books in the The Fovean Chronicles Series:
King Glennen of Eldador gave me a job to do - avenge his wife's death - and hey, you know me, I am to please!
So maybe he didn't say, "Attack the invincible city, sack it and pretty much slap the faces of every important person on Fovea," but then again I never went to charm school. I kind of do what I do.
But you know what I wish he had said? I wish he'd said, "Lupus, if you do plan to go sack the invincible city, you better make darn sure you have a way out of there, because the Uman-Chi are the most powerful Wizards on the planet, and every other nation is a friend to them.
Yeah, that would have been pretty good advice.
These are the continuing adventures of Randy Morden, a man from our world thrust into another where magic is real and technology sounds pretty far-fetched. As the chosen of a god named 'War,' Randy has a mission to fulfill a destiny that he doesn't understand and, incidentally, to keep himself and his family alive while doing it.
In Indomitus Vivat, the stakes are raised
as War drives Randy to greater stakes and greater consequences, and pathway that could lead to empire, or straight to hell!
To say that Randy Morden had an effect on Fovea is an understatement. More than ten years after his arrival, the Fovean High Council is in a shambles, the supremacy of the Uman-Chi is a memory, and Eldador is an Empire, not a kingdom.
An Uman-Chi girl finds herself with a song to sing, a song which is a gift from the goddess Eveave. When she sings it, another call will come to Earth, a new call for two new champions, a young girl and an old man, for the world where magic is used like technology, and technology is just starting to appear.
Now War is about to rage across Fovea, and the greedy Eldadorian government is at the center of it. These two champions from Earth have a decision to make - one not so easy as they might think:
Which side are they on?
Travel with Bill and Melissa in the footsteps of the Conqueror and the shadow of the Wolf, and ask yourself: how do you fight the invincible warrior, especially considering that your failure is already foretold?
The battle for Fovea is on, and a girl named Raven and a man named Jack aren’t even sure of which side they should be on. On one front is the Emperor, Rancor Mordetur, from their home planet of Earth. He seems to have a lot on this side – a massive army of highly trained warriors, the most feared witch on Fovea as his wife and superior technology born of another world. On the other is every Fovean Nation; savage Men and wild Uman, long-lived Uman-Chi and merciless Swamp Devils and Slee; all of them unwilling to be subjects of the Empire. But is the Empire evil, or do Raven and Jack not yet have the whole picture? And what of the song that so few people can hear, sung to them by an Uman-Chi girl barely 167 years old? If they can find the weapons mentioned in the song, can they win the day? Or, as the song says, are they doomed to fail?
Indomitus Sum is the conclusion to Indomitus Oriens. Now you can finally learn the fate of those who have no faith, but who instead know the will of their gods.

Between one moment and the next, he was right there next to her, kneeling so they were face to face. She let out the air in her lungs in a rush, not sure of what she wanted to do or what he was planning to do. She parted her lips but didn’t say anything, didn’t want to put another question out there for him to address before he answered the one she really wanted to know.
Praise
for Absolute Trust:
"With an action-filled plot
riddled with suspense and tension, Drake’s latest in her True Heroes series is
the best one yet. Steady pacing, engaging storytelling and genuine,
vulnerable characters (coupled with the endearing heroic dogs that protect and
love them) make this romance shine." ~ RT Book Reviews
Excerpt from Absolute
Trust:
Between one moment and the next, he was right there next to her, kneeling so they were face to face. She let out the air in her lungs in a rush, not sure of what she wanted to do or what he was planning to do. She parted her lips but didn’t say anything, didn’t want to put another question out there for him to address before he answered the one she really wanted to know.
Because she was hoping he was here for her—not
his childhood friend—but for the very adult version of her who’d been waiting
for him all this time.
Faster than she could react, his lips caught
hers. The contact rushed through her in a lightning shot of surprise. Years of
bottled-up frustration bubbled up and she leaned into him with a soft gasp.
And then he pulled back and she was left trying
to catch her breath.
Slowly, carefully, he slid his arms around her
back and under her knees. He cradled her against his chest and tucked her head
under his chin. Circled as she was in his embrace, he held her close. He
pressed his lips against her hair.
“That was too close yesterday, Sophie.” His voice
was low, gruff, and almost cracked with emotion. “The thought of losing you
just about killed me.”

My Review
Fire HD 8:
I
knew when I first saw the new Kindle Fire I had to have it. Not because I
needed a new one. I wanted it for its size and because of its battery life. It
will stay charged for up to 12 hours. I only use mine for reading and it
actually stays charged for a few days well that is if I only use it at night
and when we have a doctor’s appointment. I just love it I can read for hours
and hours before the battery goes dead.
I
still have my Kindle Fire 7 that I bought in 2015 and I still love it as well
but the battery does not last as long as the 8 but when the battery goes dead
on one I still have the other. With two kindles you can charge one while
reading on the other. I take one or both of my kindles everywhere I go. I never
know when I may get a few minutes to read. I wouldn’t take anything for my
Kindle well maybe a new one. Ha Ha…
Oh
I thought I would just throw this one in I also still have the first kindle I
bought in 2013 and guess what it still works. I gave it to my husband and he
uses it now.
Kindles
are more than just a reader. You can also check all your social media sites and
keep up with family and friends. You can also go online. Kindle has Alexa now.
Alexa is an app where you can ask her certain things and she will give you an
answer. You can check the weather on a kindle. You can do almost anything on a
kindle that you can do on a pc but of course there are still lots of things you
can’t do as well. But you can get an app for just about anything. You can play
games if that is your thing or listen to music or audiobooks.

My
Review of Moko Cover:
I
absolutely love the Moko Cover for Kindle Fire 8!!! When I first started using
it I was like I am not going to like this no way no how. But it didn’t take me
long to fall in love with it. I bought the Moko Cover like two months ago and I
loved it so much that I bought another one for my Kindle Fire 7.
These
covers are just so amazing. I can’t give them enough praise. If I could give
them more than five stars I would. I love that it wakes up when you open it and
goes off immediately after closing. You don’t have to hit the on and off
buttons on your kindle. Amazing!!! It is also very sturdy and your kindle sits
up very well. It also seems to be very strongly made and won’t wear out quickly.
I
definitely would recommend the Moko Cover for your kindle fire. It is amazing.
Did I mention how amazing I think they are?

The Mirror of Doom
by Bailey
Baxter
GENRE: Middle
Grade
BLURB:
What
would you do if you got stuck in another world? 12-year-old Tim Hunter and his
two older siblings panicked. Just a little. (Can you blame them?) Unfortunately,
the only way they can return home is to steal a magic mirror from an evil
queen. Yes, that’s right. Evil! To make matters even worse, enemy soldiers,
horrible creatures called galrogs, and even a dragon will do anything to stop
them. Do they have what it takes to make it home alive? There’s one way to find
out. This fun, fantasy-adventure for middle-grade readers is available on
Amazon.com.
Excerpt:
Ron started down the hallway toward
me. “Timmy, give Kat her diary back, or I’ll take it from you myself.”
He would, too. But I wasn’t about to
give him the chance.
I turned and threw myself against
that mysterious closed door, giving the glass knob a big twist. It opened suddenly,
and I found myself stumbling forward into a dark room. Quickly regaining my
balance, I shoved the door closed. It took a bit of fumbling in the darkness,
but I found the key and quickly turned it.
Locked. And just in time, too.
The doorknob jiggled.
“Timmy, open this door,” Ron said.
“Nope.”
Ron’s fist slammed into the other
side of the door with a loud bang. “Open the door, runt!”
“Go away. I’ve got some reading to
do.”
“Timmy!” Kat practically screamed my
name through the door. “If you even open my diary, I will kill you. Do you
understand?”
Oh, I understood all right. But come
on! Kat’s diary was usually guarded more closely than Fort Knox. This could be
my ONLY opportunity to see what’s inside. I’d be crazy NOT to read it!
I slid the little book out of my
pocket and stretched out my other hand to feel for a light switch — and froze,
my heart pounding. I heard a noise. It sounded like a footstep.
And it seemed to come from inside
the room.
Interview
with Bailey Baxter
What inspired you to write “The Mirror of Doom”?
When
I was a kid, I loved to read stories that sent characters to other worlds.
Yeah, I was a huge fan of The Chronicles of Narnia series! So, when I decided
to write a book for middle-grade readers, I gravitated toward what I used to
love…
…Fantasy
and adventure!
But,
I must say I was also inspired by the Snow White fairy tale. Think about it…
what do we really know about the evil queen? What made her so vain and
cold-hearted that she would attempt to kill her own step-daughter – just for
being too pretty? That’s totally warped, if you ask me!
That
evil queen – and what became of her after her plans regarding Snow White were
thwarted – became the launching off point for my story. Add in three kids from
Connecticut who were “pushed” through a magic mirror into her world, and you
end up with a fun adventure.
When or at what age did you know you wanted to be a writer?
I
was 12 years old when I knew I wanted to be a writer. I remember creating mini
books, complete with pictures, and passing them back and forth with my best
friend during class. But, I think it was my English teacher, Mr. Torgeson, who
really got me going. He was the first one to recognize my writing abilities and
encourage me to pursue writing.
What is the earliest age you remember reading your first book?
Honestly,
I’ve been reading books for as long as I can remember. When I was as little as
1 years old, my mother would sit me beside her and read to me while she fed my
baby brother. So I was brought up on a steady diet of books.
What genre of books do you enjoy reading?
I
know I’m an adult, but I enjoy reading middle-grade fiction. There are some
real good books out there – like the Mysterious Benedict Society series. Novels
for this age group are (usually) fun and creative.
I
also enjoy Christian supernatural thrillers – like Rachel Starr Thomson’s
“Exile” book – and the occasional clean romance.
What is your favorite book?
I
really love “The Lord of the Rings” series. I’ve read all three books many
times. In fact, I like starting “The Fellowship of the Ring” in the fall – when
Frodo began his adventure in the book. Yeah, I’m a total geek.
You know I think we all have a favorite author. Who is your favorite author and why?
Of
course, J.R.R. Tolkien. He didn’t only write an engaging story – he created an
entire world and language (Elvish)! He was amazing.
If you could travel
back in time here on earth to any place or time. Where would you go and why?
I
think I’d go back to the 1920s and 1930s. They had electricity, which is
important. And cars. So, the transition wouldn’t be so much of a shock. But, I
like the dresses and the way ladies wore hats and gloves. And I like the
simpler pace of life.
When writing a book do you find that writing comes easy for you or is it a difficult task?
It
all depends. Sometimes, you get into the zone and the story just flows out of
you. Other times, getting words out is like trying to squeeze that last bit of
toothpaste from the tube! Either way, I wouldn’t trade the writing process for
the world. It’s one of the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done.
Do you have any little fuzzy friends? Like a dog or a cat? Or any pets?
I
have a dog named Lucy. She’s a mischievous, stubborn, loving little Shih-tzu
who keeps me on my toes. I never know when she’s going to sneak up on me and
attack my feet – wanting to play. She’s a lot of work, but she’s also a lot of
fun. She makes me laugh.
What is your "to die for", favorite food/foods to eat?
Chocolate,
for sure. Preferably dark. And, this will make me sound like I’m 12 years-old,
but I adore pepperoni pizza. It’s my Friday night reward to myself for making
it through a rough week of writing sales copy. (I make my living as a
copywriter.)
Do you have any advice for anyone that would like to be an author?
Read,
read, read and write, write, write!
And
never give up.
The
truth is… writing a book is tough. I worked on “The Mirror of Doom” on and off
for over 10 years. I have a full-time job, so I had to squeeze in writing time
at night and on weekends. I rewrote the book four times to get it where I
wanted it to be. It was a lot of work.
But,
if you have the desire to write… if you have stories to tell… the process of
getting that book out of your brain and onto paper is so rewarding. It’s
totally worth the sacrifices you make to get there.
I
also recommend to “follow” other authors and learn the most you can from them.
Most authors love to answer questions from their readers.
AUTHOR BIO:
Bailey
Baxter is the pen name of a somewhat successful copywriter who writes online
"junk mail” for health supplement companies. She's been writing stories
since childhood. In fact, when she was 12, Bailey wrote and illustrated tiny
books that she stapled together and passed to her friend during class. (She was
never caught.)
Bailey
grew up in Ellington, CT – a small town where cows outnumbered people 2 to 1.
She currently lives in Asheville, NC with a mischievous Shih-tzu named Lucy.
Fortunately, Asheville is weird - and proud of it - so it gives her plenty of
inspiration and plot ideas for new books.
Her
first book, The Mirror of Doom, was inspired by a certain pesky brother named
"Jimmy" and the childhood desire to find a wardrobe to a place like
Narnia.
