My
Review:
Suzannah
Commons has never been outside the walls of Home; the commune where she lives
and as far as she knows neither has anyone she knows; alive or dead. But she
has no desire to go outside the commune as the undead are out there and she has
no intentions of dying anytime soon. She is safe inside the walls of Home as
long as she follows the rules of the Deacon. If she breaks the Deacon’s rules….
The
women in the commune are taught their whole lives how to serve the men of the
commune. When she comes of age she is in training to be a good wife and mother
but mostly a good wife to the elders of the community. Suzannah tries very hard
to follow all the rules and not sin as she doesn’t want to be sent to the hard
labor whore camp to live until she dies. But when circumstance that are beyond
her control take place Suzannah is punished for her sins so she can redeem
herself to the master and hopefully will be allowed back into his good graces.
Suzannah
is made to do extra chores for the family of the boy who her sin manifested
with which was not his fault either but of course is not punished. Men do not
sin. Women make men do the things they do so therefore it is the fault of the
women and the one who has sinned not the man.
But
the family of this boy is unlike any other family that Suzannah has ever come
across. They are the only people left in the commune that will have anything to
do with her now even her best friends ignore her and call her names. This
family makes Suzannah feel loved where her own family never did and now even
her family has disowned her and want nothing else to do with her ever.
All
Suzannah wants is to do her punishment and get forgiveness and have someone
take her as their wife. But now after everything that has happened and getting
to know Silas and his family Suzannah starts seeing things in different light
and now wants to be with Silas but doesn’t know if that can ever be. But a girl
can hope or can she?
Home
was one of the best books I have ever read before. I loved the whole concept of
telling a group of people something to be the truth as far as anyone left alive
knows and they believe it. Not that I agree with any of it I just know that it
is possible and I think it has happened before. I really did love the world
that the author created even though a lot of things were very unacceptable and
dark but it still makes for a good story and one that hopefully will be an eye
opener. I can’t wait to see what is in store next for Suzannah, Silas and his
family. What roads will they take us on next? What kind of life is in store for
them now?
If
you have not read Home and love a good dystopian story with a little love thrown
in then I suggest that you give Home a try. But I warn you it is a little dark.

Eleni McKnight is a Murfreesboro, Tennessee native. She
graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville with a degree in Theatre
with an emphasis in Literature and a wild passion for creating clothes and
doing make-up. She's also an avid reader and loves music and theatre. She
started writing at age eight when she had read all the Baby-Sitter's Club books
that were out and wanted something new to read. It's never quite left her over
