Historical Fantasy

Date Published: 02-26-2026

Publisher: Sword and Thistle LLC

In World War 1, it’s not the tanks or soldiers that will determine the victors, it’s the magical tattoo ink.

The Mages who can bear that ink have special weapon and beast tattoos that can come to life.

Jack is an infamous Mage, called into a covert mission to rescue a missing scientist. If he can do this, he will ensure the balance of power with the magical ink distribution is not stolen by other countries who look to gain the upper hand during the war.

As he searches for the renowned Nikola Tesla, Jack assembles a team of Mages and soldiers as they scramble against time and powerful Russian enemies, who also have their own magical tattoos. Their enemies will use those powers not only to win the war but take over the city where all magical ink is created and distributed, thus ensuring global domination.

But Jack has a personal vendetta against one of those enemies, payback for the death of his father and other loved ones. If Jack can use his ink magic and overcome the insurmountable odds to succeed, he just might keep the ink safe, maintain the balance of power, and defeat the men who have plagued his family for decades.

This action-packed alternate history novel will keep readers on the edge of their seats! If you love the Pale Rider Second Chance series by Michael Roberts, you will love his new Ink Magic series!

Interview with Michael Roberts

Could you tell us about any research trips you took for this story? Which places did you visit, and what made them essential to your writing?

I’ve always been a fan of history, so most of it is from what I knew, plus a lot of documentary shows and fact-checking to get it right.

What's the strangest thing you've ever had to research online for your book?

I had to research the spittoon flower for this book.

What research (history, mythology, science) goes into your world-building?

A lot of historical research on Mount Manaslu in Tibet, and a lot of world mythology for the monastery and its travels.

Have any of the people you've known, past or present, left a lasting impression on your writing journey? If so, we'd love to hear about a memorable experience that stands out to you.

I’d have to say my wife. She is an author and writing instructor, and she told me, “Show them, don’t tell them.” And that’s been my philosophy ever since.

Do you write in the same genre all the time?

All in the sci-fi genre, but one series is more urban fantasy with werewolves, one is time travel, and Ink Magic is Alternate history with a touch of steampunk.

If so, have you ever consider writing in another one?

I might consider western, but it would still have to be historical.

Which character, supernatural or human, do you enjoy writing the most and why?

Thomas Cain/Nelson from my Pale Rider series is the epitome of the dark hero.

Book Tour + #Giveaway: In Her Own Backyard by Ashley Hanna-Morgan @RABTBookTours

Thriller

Date Published: March 26, 2026

Publisher: Acorn Publishing

New to the neighborhood and reeling from the traumatic birth of her second child, Marlowe Moore is barely holding it together. Battling postpartum depression and anxiety, she’s desperate for stability.

But when she learns that a woman who once lived in her family’s new home vanished without a trace, Marlowe becomes obsessed. As strange things happen and neighborly smiles feel like veiled threats, Marlowe can’t shake the feeling that someone is hiding something.

She spirals further into paranoia, fixated on the abandoned case and determined to seek justice. But how can a woman who feels lost find a missing person?

Juggling the demands of her beloved family and her harrowing mental illness, Marlowe doesn’t realize she is caught in a cat-and-mouse game that could cost her everything … including her life.

Interview with Ashley Hanna-Morgan

Could you tell us about any research trips you took for this story? Which places did you visit, and what made them essential to your writing?

Yes! I lived in Reno, Nevada for 7 years and I had never read a novel with Reno as the setting. Called the “biggest little city,” it is a gorgeous place in every season—spring blooms, summers at lake Tahoe, autumn leaves, and snow-capped mountains. I thought Reno would be a fantastic backdrop for a mystery that can only take place in a small town. The fun part was putting real places in the book for readers to enjoy and really get a sense of place, almost like Reno is another character. See the back appendix for the real places to visit in Reno list!

What's the strangest thing you've ever had to research online for your book?

Researching human remains search and rescue dogs was fascinating and a little queasy at times! Dogs are incredible creatures and I love how they help us humans discover things we’re not capable of detecting. The strangest part is their training… how can they tell between scents of placenta and decay? Truly amazing.

What research (history, mythology, science) goes into your world-building?

In this case, a lot of walking! The main character’s experience of walking the streets looking for relief from her anxiety and depression then gave me the idea to have where she is influence what she is thinking about in the case, and what she takes action on. I imagined important scenes taking place around Reno in particularly interesting spots—at the Nevada Museum of Art, at the Playa Art Park, and along the Truckee River—that would heighten the suspense or the intensity of what is happening there in the story.

Have any of the people you've known, past or present, left a lasting impression on your writing journey? If so, we'd love to hear about a memorable experience that stands out to you.

Definitely my mom and my Nana, who taught me how to read. I’ve been writing stories and poems since I could read, at 5 years old. Nancy Drew books were a favorite back then, thanks to my mom, starting the lifelong love of mysteries! Poetry has also been a faithful companion throughout my life starting with my Nana introducing me to Shel Silverstein and Mary Oliver. My high school English teacher, Mrs. Ladd introduced me to Barbara Kingsolver’s book, The Poisonwood Bible, which was life-changing for me in high school. I had never read a book with a rotating cast of narrators to portray different perspectives about the same events, and I LOVED it. I thought, I want to write a book like that someday!

Do you write in the same genre all the time?

No, I’ve written three books that are all different! I wrote a volume of poetry, I Gave Birth to My Heart, and a support group curriculum called The Afterglow.  I feel like a parent trying to tell their children, “I don’t pick favorites!” Haha! Postpartum Depression is dubbed the “smiling depression” and people who have not been through it often wonder, “what are parents so sad about after they have a baby?” In I Gave Birth to My Heart, I wanted to draw back the curtains and give readers a glimpse into what recovery from Postpartum Depression and Anxiety actually feels like in this collection of poems. With or without Postpartum Depression, if you have had children and experienced the breaking down of your life and rebuilding from the ground up, you will find yourself in some of these lines of verse. If you have gone through infertility or the loss of a child through miscarriage, stillbirth, illness, or making an adoption plan for your baby, these poems reveal a process through grief and loss. Even if you have never had children, you will get a glimpse into the secret anguishes and innumerable joys universal to parents, and one mother’s reinvention of herself after Postpartum Depression and Anxiety. The Afterglow has allowed me to connect with folks all over world who have reached out about starting a support group. I’m so grateful for that opportunity and am so encouraged every time that happens! But during release week for the novel I spent 5 years working on, I have to say In Her Own Backyard is my favorite. I LOVE the five mama characters individually and collectively, and I LOVE the idea of a group of mom friends solving a cold case.

If so, have you ever consider writing in another one?

I didn’t consider it at first, but when my editor said, “you should definitely write a sequel from each of the mama characters’ perspectives,” I liked that idea! Amaya’s voice has already started talking to me as the narrator of the next book in the series and that is fun because she is spicy!

Which character, supernatural or human, do you enjoy writing the most and why?

Honestly, it was really fun to write a villain. I’ve never done that before! I can’t tell you who it is—no spoilers-- but let’s just say, it was fun to play around with the villain’s voice in a crucial scene at the end!

ZOG’S BIG QUESTION

by Adam Rice

GENRE: Children’s

Blurb:

Some answers change you forever.

Zog's Big Question: An interplanetary tale of wonder, belief, and big questions.

Follow Zog, an inquisitive young alien from the planet Luminos—where everything is tested, measured, and understood—as he investigates mysterious reports from a distant blue world called Terra.

With the help of his new friends, Sam and Max, Zog explores a park, a church, a library, and a university — meeting people with many different ideas about life's biggest questions.

Zog's Big Question is a thoughtful, gently humorous adventure for readers 8 and up — a celebration of curiosity, imagination, and the many ways people search for truth.

Excerpt:

A small smile crept across Zog’s face as Nara passed the Knowing Fruit Tree he had embedded in the ground nearly ten cycles ago. He remembered the pride that swelled in his chest when he first fused his seedling into the crystal lattice, marking the beginning of his journey from Questling to Inlightenment.

Just then, a beep snapped Zog out of his daydream. One of the many simulations he’d been running was complete.

His curious eyes widened as he manipulated his Datapad, zooming in on a distant blue planet wrapped in vast oceans and swirling with an intricate weather system.

What a strange and beautiful place,” Zog murmured, his antennae twitching as he sank deeper into a bean bag chair. His blue, luminescent body pulsed softly, in rhythm with the questions stirring in his mind.

Zog loved learning about new worlds. On Luminos, everyone—from the youngest Questling to the oldest and wisest of the Inlightened—was a seeker of knowledge.

As far back as he could remember, Zog had learned to make careful observations, propose hypotheses, and test them rigorously—never moving forward until he was certain his understanding was sound.

But this planet—Terra, as the Luminites called it—was different.

My Review:

Zog's Big Question revolves around a young boy from the planet Luminos who possesses a curious mind filled with inquiries about existence and a constant quest for the truth. His latest fascination is the planet, Terra.

Zog follows the path of his questions wherever they may take him, no matter how distant in the universe they lead. Zog's Big Question is a children's tale appropriate for those aged eight and above.

Throughout his quest for the truth, Zog encounters numerous new friends while exploring various locations and discovering their perspectives on different aspects of life. Zog's escapades will leave you with some questions of your own to contemplate long after you turn the final page.

Zog's Big Question might not be suitable for every child. Parents should take note; it might be wise to read it yourself before permitting your child to dive in to determine if it aligns with your values and/or your child's readiness. Your child might not be prepared for a book like Zog's Big Question.

If you believe Zog's Big Question is the right story for you, then feel free to pick up a copy today and accompany Zog on his numerous adventures across the universe!

About the Author:

Adam Rice is a first-time author who believes that curiosity is one of the most important things we can share with our children. Zog's Big Question grew out of late-night conversations, big family questions, and a love for exploring new ideas together. Adam lives in Canada with his spouse and three kids.

The Path to Lasting Joy, Healing, and Love

Christian Theology • Philosophy • Contemporary Faith • Spirituality

Date Published: 03-01-2026

Publisher: Review Tales Editing & Publishing Services

God's Surprising Way: The Path to Lasting Joy, Healing, and Love guides readers into the upside-down kingdom of God, where human expectations are consistently overturned. In this transformative journey, the humble are exalted, the last are lifted, and true greatness is found through servanthood, surrender, and sacrificial love. Through Scripture, theological insights, and historical reflections-from Augustine and Luther to Bonhoeffer and Nouwen-readers discover how God's surprising ways cultivate lasting joy, deep healing, and authentic love.

Each chapter explores a distinct paradox of the gospel, demonstrating how humility, generosity, and obedience can transform relationships, communities, and personal faith. Practical reflections and prompts invite readers to integrate these principles into daily life-choosing forgiveness over resentment, service over recognition, and trust over control.

With accessible scholarship, devotional insight, and concrete application, this book reveals the practical power of God's reversals. It challenges conventional assumptions about success, power, and happiness, inviting believers to live counterculturally in alignment with Christ's teachings. God's Surprising Way is both an invitation and a roadmap: to encounter God's transformative presence, embody the values of the Kingdom, and experience joy, healing, and love that endure.

Interview with Jeyran Main

Do you have a routine or something you do to get you in the mood to write?

I don’t follow a rigid routine, but I do try to create a quiet, focused space. Often, I begin with a moment of reflection or prayer, which helps center my thoughts and align my writing with a deeper purpose. That inner stillness is usually what prepares me most to write.

Do you have a special song, drink, or food you enjoy while you are writing?

I tend to prefer silence or very soft instrumental music, as it allows me to concentrate more deeply. A warm drink—usually tea—often accompanies my writing sessions. It’s a small ritual, but it helps create a sense of calm and continuity.

How do you know what to write?

Most of what I write flows from themes that persist in my thoughts—questions, tensions, or insights that don’t easily leave me. When something continues to surface in both study and life experience, I take that as a sign it’s worth exploring more deeply in writing.

What does a typical writing day look like for you?

A typical writing day involves periods of reading, reflection, and then writing in focused segments. I don’t always measure progress by word count; sometimes clarity of thought is the real goal. I also revisit and revise frequently, allowing ideas to develop over time rather than rushing the process.

Do you do anything special to celebrate after writing “the end”?

Finishing a manuscript is always meaningful, but I tend to mark it quietly—with gratitude rather than celebration. It’s a moment of reflection, acknowledging the journey it took to get there and the message that has been completed.

How long does it take you to write a book?

It varies depending on the depth of the subject. Some books take months, others much longer. For me, writing is not just about producing content—it’s about allowing the ideas to mature, which often takes time beyond the actual writing itself.

What is the most difficult part of writing a book?

The most difficult part is ensuring that what I write is both truthful and meaningful. It’s not just about clarity of words, but authenticity of message. There’s a responsibility in writing—especially on spiritual themes—to be thoughtful, accurate, and sincere.

Trauma Memoir

Date Published: February 10, 2026

Publisher: Unbroken

“Unbroken: Life Outside the Lines” plunges you into Adriene Caldwell’s childhood—a world of grinding poverty, mental illness, and violence—then lifts you back out on a fierce up‑draft of resilience. Page after page, she peels back the polite veneer of society to reveal the systemic betrayals that let children like her slip through every safety net, yet she never relinquishes the fragile ember of hope that keeps her alive. Her voice is unflinchingly honest—at turns raw, lyrical, and darkly humorous—as she chronicles the horrors she endured and the instinct that urged her to fight for her little brother, and for herself, when no one else would. By the final chapter, you will understand why she can say, without irony, “We are not defined by our damage… We are Unbroken,” and you will close the book convinced that survival, in her hands, is its own quietly triumphant art form.

About the Author

Adriene Caldwell is an author and advocate from Houston, Texas. Her memoir, Unbroken: Life Outside the Lines, traces the quiet aftermath of childhood trauma and the long arc of healing. EXCERPT

"Over here."

There was an impatient huff before a woman said, "I thought you said you knew where it was."

Leah Spencer paused in the act of replacing a book into its proper Dewey decimal order on the shelf. She looked around but didn't see anyone. Still, the sounds of heavy breathing were coming from a nearby location.

"I do. It's right here." Teeth of a zipper were parted.

"That is not what I'm looking for." This time instead of sounding aggrieved, the female's voice dripped with amusement.

Oh, crap. Not again. Her section of the library had to be the hottest make out spot on campus lately.

"Suck me," a male voice hissed.

"Like this?"

"Oh, yeah. That's it."

He started to moan. Wet sounds slipped between the logically ordered tomes to reach Leah's ears. Her face heated, and so did her feminine core.

"Lick it."

Apparently his lover complied because inarticulate encouragement ensued. Leah considered peeking around the spines to catch a glimpse of their faces so she could give a description to campus security, but as soon as she moved, the book in her hands rasped against the ones on the shelf at her waist.

"What was that?" the woman asked, suspicious.

Leah froze, her heart beating frantically at the thought of being discovered. It would certainly get her fired if the administration learned she'd been listening to, rather than interrupting, the copulating couple. Assuming, of course, that she survived the humiliation of being labeled a sexual voyeur.

"It's nothing. Ignore it," her partner replied.

"I really think --"

He cut her off. "No one ever comes up here. No one except people like us. Might get crowded, but we're not going to get in trouble."

His partner seemed reassured by his explanation. "Yeah, I guess you're right."

Safe for the moment, Leah carefully stepped out of her shoes so her feet wouldn't make a sound as she dashed down the main corridor, away from the action. Once she'd reached her miniscule office, she picked up the phone and dialed a number she knew by heart.

"It's happening again," Leah said as soon as Campus Security Detective Samuel Zheng answered.

"Damn. That makes the fourth time today."

The husky tenor of his voice jumpstarted the lust already simmering in her veins. Leah wished she were brave enough to intimately touch herself during one of these conversations. So far, she hadn't dared. But to come to the sound of his voice, to be that close to him whether he knew it or not, would be... would be... pathetic.

"Leah?"

She sighed, dismissing the fantasy and zeroing in on reality. "Yeah, I'm here."

"I'm on my way. Don't let them leave."

Right, she thought as the dial tone echoed in her ear. Even if Sam ran the whole way, it would take him ten minutes to arrive. She was a five-foot-nothing couch potato. How was she supposed to restrain two healthy adults if they were determined to go? Keep them riveted with a discourse on the finer points of fellatio?

Assuming they hadn't already left, she'd have to stay where she could monitor them. Listening to their passionate directives. Picturing them...

Enough!

As quietly as she could, Leah tiptoed back to her hiding place. Again, somehow she betrayed her presence. Damn Sam for asking her to do his job!

"There's another noise," the woman hissed. "Someone's coming."

"No one is coming but me, baby. Suck me a little harder, would ya?"

The woman chuckled softly. "Mmm, you're such a big boy. Gonna have to find something special to do for you." In the quiet, close quarters, Leah detected the rustle of fabric, followed by the snick of a bra being undone. "How about this, stud? Does it do anything for you?"

"That... is so... hot."

Images of what they might be doing flickered through Leah's mind. She closed her eyes. Their out-of-sync heavy breathing fueled the white-hot lust pulsing between her legs. She envisioned a pair of plump breasts surrounding a hard shaft, the rosy head peeking up from the deep, lily-white valley.

"Gonna let me fuck you?" the guy panted out.

"No, I want you to come like this. All over my breasts."

"Oh, yeah."

The smell of sex permeated the air. Leah's clit throbbed. She didn't want to risk moving around too much for fear of scaring them off, but she had to do something to soothe the ache in her swollen clit. Using the only option that came to mind, Leah placed a heavy tome between her legs. As quietly as possible, she ground against it so the rigid spine rode over her pussy, sending ripples of pleasure through her body.

People often teased her about getting off on books, but this was the first time she'd actually attempted it. The thought almost made her giggle, but she choked it off.

"That's it. Fuck my tits, stud."

"Gonna come," he announced.

"Do it for me. Do it now."

Leah was near the edge herself. As he grunted through his climax, Leah rubbed the book between her legs. Given the volume's size, it took both hands although she badly wished one were free to pluck at her pebbled nipples.

She'd never felt so wanton in her life. She imagined semen coating the woman's breasts, his hands rubbing it in. Her mouth licking him clean. All the while, her BOB substitute stroked her into a frenzy of wet, hot need.

"Here, let me get that." Whatever the man's offer entailed, his partner seemed to enjoy it. Her cry of pleasure triggered Leah's release. It wasn't the best orgasm of her life, but her reaction was intensified by the fact that she'd made it happen at all. In the library. Where she could have been caught at any second.

What in the hell had she been thinking?

As she pondered the depths of her recent depravity, the lights overhead dimmed for a full ten seconds, then brightened again. It signaled the five-minute warning before the staff started herding students out of Loveland College Library. Shit! Where was Sam?
