Review: Dragon Reborn (The Ochre Dragon Shifter Series #2) by Lilliana Rose @LillianaRose2

Dragon Reborn

by Lilliana Rose

Published: October 29, 2024

Genre: Science Fiction, Fantasy, Dragons, Mythical Creatures, Dragon Shifters

Blurb:

Trapped in a cavern, bound to a dragon. This wasn't the future I'd planned.

The silence is deafening, the loneliness a constant ache. Roran, my dragon, is frozen in stone, a prisoner of his love for me, his warmth a distant memory. The dragon eggs, our only hope, pulse with a magic I don't understand.

Fear whispers in the shadows, a prophecy unfolds, and a darkness I can't comprehend threatens to consume us all. I'm just a human, caught in a world of ancient magic, a world where love is a curse, and destiny is a cruel master.

But the bond we share, the fire he ignited within me, refuses to be extinguished. And as the line between our worlds blurs, I must find the strength to face my fears, to embrace the unknown, to fight for a future I never dared to dream of.

Because even in the darkest of nights, a dragon's love can ignite a dawn.

Note to Reader: This book follows on from Dragon Bond. While Dragon Reborn can be read as a standalone it would be more enjoyable journey to read Dragon Bond first.

My Review:

Dragon Reborn is the second installment in Lilliana Rose’s The Ochre Dragon Shifter Series. It further develops the romance between Roran and Lila. Roran faces punishment for forming a bond with a human, which is prohibited between humans and dragons.

His consequence for loving Lila is being transformed into a stone statue of his dragon self and confined in a concealed cave that safeguards three dragon eggs. Lila’s affection for Roran is so profound that she decides to join him in the cave.

They have the opportunity to be together for one day each month when Roran can assume his human form. They cannot share moments when Roran is in his dragon shape. The vivid descriptions were so masterfully crafted that I could sense the emotions and love flowing between Roran and Lila. I felt like a hidden observer in a dark corner of the cave, witnessing their connection.

I was enthralled by every word, with all the intrigue and tension that kept me engaged until the very last page. This narrative is one that I believe will linger in my mind long after I turn that final page. I am eagerly anticipating the next chapter in The Ochre Dragon Shifter Series, titled Dragon Desire, to discover the adventures that await in this magical dragon realm.

I wholeheartedly recommend Dragon Reborn to all enthusiasts of dragons and romantic tales. The intricate world-building and multifaceted characters set a high benchmark for future releases. As I reflect on my journey through Dragon Reborn, I can’t help but feel thrilled about the potential surprises in Dragon Desire.

The author’s talent for intertwining magic, romance, and adventure promises an unforgettable continuation of this enthralling saga. I can’t wait to dive back into the exhilarating escapades and romantic encounters in the upcoming book. Make sure to grab your copy of Dragon Reborn today!

EXCERPT:

“All we have to do is confidently walk to the door like we’re supposed to be here,” Nari said under her breath.

She and Jennifer argued in the parking lot of Omaha’s largest mansion as glamorously dressed revelers approached the entrance, arm in arm.

“I’ll enter five minutes before you. When they ask for our names, remember that I’m Doris and you’re Béatrice. After that, everything will be easy. No big deal,” Nari explained.

Right. It was no big deal to Nari because she was endlessly charming, constantly meeting new people, and making loads of cash from random schemes that took her all over the world. Jennifer, on the other hand, was great at petting her neighbors’ dogs and getting lost mid-conversation in daydreams about faraway lands she’d never visited.

Doris Huang and Béatrice Boivin were wealthy business-women who were actually invited to the gala. Jennifer had helped Nari find an Asian and black woman on the guest list that they could impersonate. Doris and Béatrice looked enough like them, although Doris was in her fifties. Luckily, Doris wore glasses, so Nari could hide her youth behind a pair of round black frames that complemented her off-the-shoulder, gold metallic gown.

“Honestly, Nari, I don’t think it’s going to be that easy.” Jennifer tapped her fingers nervously on her arm. “What if Doris and Béatrice are inside already? Why don’t we look for a back entrance to sneak into instead?”

At least there would be fewer witnesses if they got caught at the back entrance. Maybe they could even pretend they were lost, ask for directions, and then decide to scrap the whole mission and return to their cozy apartment. “Oh well, that didn’t work. At least we tried!” Jennifer would say peppily. Nari would shrug. They’d end the night bingeing on popcorn and singing nineties hits into their TV’s karaoke app.

But Nari would never give up that easily. “Nah, we’re early. We’ll have at least an hour before these two fabulous women show up. They’re always late for events like this. Besides, our target is already inside.”

Jennifer groaned. “This is nuts. I’ve got to pretend to be French like Béatrice.” She shook her head. “I can’t even tell the difference between a good macaron and a bad one. They’re all delicious to me. I don’t know why I let you talk me into this.”

“I know why you said yes, mon amie,” Nari said, grinning. “Remember, you’ll be getting twenty-five percent of whatever deal we pull off after today. If I can close this deal, it could be worth half a million dollars.”

Jennifer had almost forgotten about the payout. Normally, Nari compensated her for these wild rides with chili cheese fries. She sucked in air through her teeth. “I… I can’t really say no to that,” she said, goosebumps covering her arms.

With that kind of money, maybe she could travel far beyond Omaha’s borders. She’d meet wonderful, surprising people. People who spoke five languages, painted in their spare time, and effortlessly rode their electric scooters through crowded street markets before arriving at home to make love to their beautiful spouses. Maybe she could even quit her job as a marketing analyst.

Nari swept her arm out in front of her, as if she were showing off her kingdom. “Welcome to the business world. There’s tons of cash just waiting for you.”

Money came easily to Nari, even though she had the attention span of a gnat. She could have her own massive condo if she wanted to, but she chose to live with Jennifer to feel a sense of home so far away from her family. Jennifer, however, was thirty-six years old and broke. If she didn’t live with Nari, she would have to start a window washing side hustle to be able to afford her student loan payments.

“It’s my favorite business world, the one where we have to sneak into galas to close deals,” Jennifer snorted.

Cover Reveal: Adélaïde by Janell Strube @RABTBookTours

Painter of the Revolution

Historical Fiction

Date Published: forthcoming January 13, 2026

Publisher: Acorn Publishing

In a world where women are seen but rarely heard, Adélaïde Labille-Guiard refuses to be silenced.

The daughter of Parisian shopkeepers, Adélaïde dreams not of marriage or titles but of earning a place among the masters of French art. With Queen Marie Antoinette on the throne and a spirit of change in the air, anything seems possible. But as revolution brews and powerful forces conspire to deny her success, Adélaïde faces an impossible choice: protect her life—or fight for a legacy that will outlast her.

Inspired by the true story of one of the first women admitted to the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture, Adélaïde: Painter of the Revolution is a sweeping, evocative portrait of ambition, courage, and resilience in the face of history’s fiercest storm.

About the Author

Janell Strube makes a mean barbecue sauce. She’s also a world traveler, a baker, and a bicyclist. But when she writes, her identity as an adoptee often steers her attention to topics of alienation, erased history, and displacement.

In 2024, a personal essay of hers was published in the anthology Adoption and Suicidality. Her work has also appeared in Shaking the Tree: brazen. short. memoir and A Year in Ink. Her short memoir, “Taking my Blonde Daughter to a Black Lives Matter Rally,” was selected for the 2020 San Diego Memoir Showcase, an annual live storytelling event.

While much of her writing is personal, she enjoys the freedom that comes with crafting fiction. Her desire to learn about forgotten female artists who shaped the French revolutionary period motivated her to write Adélaïde: Painter of the Revolution.

When not crunching numbers as a tax executive for a hotel chain, she can be found hanging out with Shiloh the Wheaten and plotting her second book.

Review Tour + #Giveaway: Unbowed by M G da Mota @GoddessFish

UNBOWED

M G da Mota

GENRE: Psychological Thriller

BLURB:

Alexia Jewel, a beautiful, intelligent, famous classical music conductor, approaching her 50th birthday. She had to fight against convention for years to follow her dream.

Four men who all desire her. A mysterious great-grandmother. An antique, rare, green diamond ring.

And a stalker.

Only six months but six tumultuous months in Alexia’s life.

Alexia is invited to participate in the BBC’s show Who do you think you are? and through it, she slowly uncovers the mystery of the diamond ring and her great-grandmother’s secret. The stalker makes her life hell but she is determined to continue her successful, celebrated music career in Europe and the States without disruption. While Alexia bows to the music and her audience, she vows never to bow to the stalker and to face consequences head on.

Excerpt:

The room was in semi-darkness but he liked it that way. Should anyone peer inside at night he or she would see nothing but a person’s silhouette. A figure with no face and moving like a ghost among the undefined shapes of the furniture.

Opening the magazine on his desk he admired her photograph. A coloured headshot clearly showing her green eyes. He liked her eyes. Two emeralds on her lovely face. He followed the shape of her mouth with his fingers.

Turning the page he looked at the second image. A full size portrait picturing her in a figure-hugging royal-blue gown, flaunting her curves beautifully. She was smiling, about to bow to the audience at the end of a concert. He held the magazine carefully, then took a pair of scissors from a drawer and for a moment let them catch the faint moonlight coming through the window, as if performing a sacred ritual. Respectfully he began cutting out both pictures and then repeated the procedure with the third and final picture where she appeared in front of the orchestra while conducting. Her arms seemed to float towards the musicians like an extension of the score. She wore an elegant navy-blue trouser suit with a pearl coloured silk blouse. He preferred to see her in a dress, a long evening gown, sleeveless and slickly wrapped around her body like a second skin. She owned a variety of evening dresses but his favourite was the dark claret red, embroidered with same colour sequins. In the stage lights it literally made her shine.

My Review:

Alexia Jewel, the principal conductor of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and music director at the Munich Opera House, has returned to her hometown of London to lead a series of concerts with the London Symphony Orchestra in celebration of her 50th birthday.

Additionally, Alexia has come back to London to go through her late parents' possessions. While there, she accepted an invitation to join the BBC for an interview about her life. Alexia plans to share stories about her great-grandmother and the mystery surrounding the vintage diamond ring she found among her parents' belongings.

Furthermore, several men from Alexia's past have reappeared in her life. Someone has been following her and sending her notes. At first, she ignored them, but she soon realized that facing the situation might be necessary before it escalated, as her stalker posed a real threat.

Unbowed slowly revealed its mysteries, keeping me hooked with each chapter as I wondered about the origin of the diamond and the identity and motives of Alexia's stalker. What do they want? Are they trying to hurt Alexia?

Unbowed drew me in from the very first page to the last. The mystery kept me turning pages as I hurried toward the ending, eager to piece everything together.

Although Unbowed is quite long, I couldn’t put it down, driven by the need to understand the unfolding story. The complex plot twists and compelling character development made it a true page-turner.

Each new revelation pulled me deeper into Alexia's story, leaving me eager to uncover the truth behind the shadows surrounding her life.

I wholeheartedly recommend Unbowed to all fans of romantic psychological thrillers! Be sure to pick up your copy today!
