Her father disappeared years ago under mysterious circumstances, but Sophie is still haunted by memories of him that seem so real she swears she feels his presence one night as she drifts off to sleep.

Realizing that somehow her missing father is trying to send her a message, Sophie decides to take a big risk.

With her friend, Eli, Sophie must discover what strange experiment her father did and understand the startling impact it has on her world and another, just across the membrane dividing the multi-verse.

My Review:

Sophie’s Dad disappeared several years ago under mysterious circumstances. Sophie has not seen nor heard from him since. No one knows where he went or what happened to him. A few years later Sophie’s Mom remarried to a guy named Ted. Sophie tries her best to stay out of Ted’s hair as he is insane. He tends to talk to people that are not there or at least no one that she can see.

Sophie misses her Dad so much that one night as she is about to fall asleep she sees her Dad and she talks to him. He tells her he is trapped and the place where is, is a very bad place. She doesn’t get much from him as he keeps breaking up. She is more than ever determined to find him now.

She soon learns that her Dad traveled to an alternate universe and is trapped there and needs her help to get back. How she is to help him she has no clue. All she knows is that she has to follow him to this other world so she can talk to him and maybe he can help her to figure it all out.

When she gets there she finds out that more is at stake than she ever thought possible. She learns that her world and this other world are both in very bad danger of being destroyed unless she can find a way to stop it. She also has to find a way back home to her world. She also learns that her father just may not be the person she thought he was or is he?

Membrane has been a very interesting read one that has opened up a whole new world to me and has left me doing some very heavy thinking. I have enjoyed the world that the author has created in Membrane and would love to read more about Sophie, Eli and the other worlds plus a whole lot more too. Membrane is a very fast read. It will grab you from the very first page and will not let go until the very last word has been read and even then it doesn’t let go.

Blog Tour: Bittersweet by Tyffani Clark Kemp @TyffaniCKemp @HelpingHandsMel

Title- Bittersweet
Series- The Kaveesh #1
By Tyffani Clark Kemp
Publication Date- October 15th

Blurb-

She'd reconciled her life without him. His return would be Bittersweet.

Welcome to Mother Cora’s, where the offspring of the Kaveesh learn to coexist with humans.

One hundred and twenty years ago, the Kaveesh came to Earth to save the dying planet from a disease that gorged itself on anything in its wake. Buildings crumbled to dust. Soil and plant life were consumed. Two-thirds of the Earth’s population perished.

The only thing the Kaveesh asked in return was to help save their dying race. Breeding programs began and the half-breeds were born.

Lirabel is a half-breed and an overachiever. Despite a few setbacks, she’s scheduled to graduate early from Mother Cora’s and become the Half-breed Ambassador to the Humans.

Enter Jonas. They were best friends until he broke her heart and disappeared five years ago. Now, he’s back, but Lirabel couldn’t care less. There are more important things to worry about…

Like finishing her last year of school and becoming ambassador. Or the half-bred students losing control of their Kaveesh strengths who are being sent into quarantine. Or how the breeding programs are still up and running.

And somehow, Jonas’ bittersweet return is connected to it all.

An Interview with Tyffani Clark Kemp

If you could describe yourself in only 5 words, what words would you use?

Ambitious, organized, silly, quiet, teachable.

Tell us about Bittersweet-how was it different telling a YA story?

Well, I am an adult, so when I write for adults I think “How would I, if I were this character, solve or react to this problem?” Writing YA I had to think, “How would I, as a teenager, solve or react to this problem?” For teenagers, there are so many hormones and feelings running through them that their responses are so different from an adult’s. Trying to remember what that was like wasn’t the easiest.

Who is your favorite character from Bittersweet? Why?

I think Shock is probably my favorite character, followed closely by Solamine. I think they are my favorites because I know what’s in their background and I know what’s in their future and they kind of need the love. *insert evil laugh here*

Where did you get the idea for Bittersweet?

I wrote a short story for my fiance a long time ago. In it, Lirabel was first born. I’ve had the idea in my head for a long time. What would life be like for these hybrid humans? How would they be different from humans or even their own alien race? At that time, I wasn’t sure if they were aliens or people created in a lab. It was just something that I’ve kept coming back to for a long time and finally decided to focus on.

What’s coming next for you?

I have a time travel story coming in 2017 called The Canyon Edict. I’m also working on a dark romance right now and of course the second book in The Kaveesh series, Sanguine, is on the roster for this next year.

About the Author-
Tyffani Clark Kemp might be the quietest person in the room, but that just means she’s probably the biggest freak too. She is a multi-genre author with a gift for the written word and a desire to help all Indies reach their full potential. In 2012, she and her best friend Kimberly Fudge started SideStreet Cookie Publishing for authors who want to remain independent, but don’t have the time or the knowledge to do it all themselves. From the age of eleven she dedicated her life to writing and making sure she was good at her craft. Now, she passes that knowledge on to others. Her friends would describe her as determined and giving. She may be quiet, but she always has a story to tell.

About the Author

I was born and raised in Chicago. My father was a history professor and my mother was, and is, a voracious reader. I grew up with a love of history and books.

My parents also love traveling, a passion they passed onto me. I wanted to see the places I read about, see the land and monuments from the time periods that fascinated me. I’ve had the good fortune to travel extensively throughout Europe, the Near East, and North Africa.

I am a retired police detective. I spent twenty-five years in law enforcement with two different agencies. My desire to write came in my early teens. After I retired, I decided to pursue that dream. I write three different series. My paranormal romance series is called, Knights in Time. My romantic thriller series is Dangerous Waters. The newest is The Bloodstone Series. Each series has a different setting and some cross time periods, which I find fun to write.

I currently live in the Pacific Northwest with my husband and four wild and crazy rescue dogs.

Wilder’s wonderful grandfather is dead, and so is her mother, but Grandpa Willy gives her one final gift in his will – the knowledge that her father is only her step-father.

“Wilder” is the first in the Birds of a Feather series and a spin-off from the Dreughan trilogy. It’s set in modern time and can be read stand-alone.

Excerpt

“Let him go, Wilder,” a deep, gravelly voice rumbled.

Slowly, I turned my head to the side and realized immediately that I had been so very wrong. My father was not a fat loser of a drunk sitting in a corner drinking cheap whiskey.

My father was a tall, scary man with long, pitch black hair and tattoos slithering down his arms from under a tight t-shirt that showed off a lean muscular body. I realized another mistake I'd made. I'd thought that he wouldn't know who I was since I didn't look at all like my mother, but the man in front of me would recognize me anywhere because, except for the color of our hair, I looked just like him. It was like looking at a weird mirror where my face stared back at me from a man much older than me. He seemed calm, unnervingly so, but the two men at his sides were scowling angrily. At me? Or at the drunken man on the floor?

“I'll deal with Doug. Let him go now,” he ordered calmly.

“Shit,” the man beneath me whispered. “You're Wilder?”

“Shut up, Doug,” one of the two men flanking my father said quietly.

Slowly, I let go of the man, and he scrambled to his feet quickly, cowering as he approached the three men standing side by side, hands on their hips.

“I'm sorry, had no clue, wouldn't have -”

My father's eyes flicked to the side, one eyebrow went up slightly, but then he looked back at me. This was clearly an order because one of the men immediately moved over, grabbed Doug's arm and led him away.

“Willy's gone then?”

At first, I was surprised by the question, but then I understood. Willy had known this man. And he'd known him well enough to share the contents of his will, had told him that I'd know the truth once he was gone.

“Yeah,” I whispered hoarsely.

“Do you know who I am?”

I stared at him. Did he think I was stupid? Slowly, I pulled off my sunglasses and stretched them out in the general direction of where I thought Mickey would be. He took them, and when he did, he squeezed my hand a little. This calmed me down, and I raised my chin, holding my father's eyes. Eyes that were the same freakishly yellow color as my own.

“I buried my grandfather and my mother this morning. Then I went to the attorney's office and heard how Paolo Fratinelli became the owner of everything except our ranch and a small house in this village. Next thing, Paolo told me that he isn't my father and that I should go to this place to find the man who was. So yeah... It's been one of the worst days of my life. But I know who you are,” I said, slowly and succinctly.

About the Author

The proper way to put it here would probably be to describe how I love to play with our two big dogs, adore my fantastic daughters and how much I love to read.
Another way would be to use my imagination and then I would be a super powerful warrior woman, think Xena the warrior princess (though with less tacky clothes). Or when I think of it, maybe I’m actually more of a Hercule Poirot (sans the suit and moustache). Or maybe I’m like Aragorn, strong and cool and then I might get to meet Gandalf! Or I could be Bella’s pretty cousin and snap Jacob up in a second (yeah, I’m so not team Edward), or wait, maybe I could be like one of them heroines in historical novels who swoon all the time. I’ve always wanted to swoon…
Well, I guess you get how my mind is working (or not working, some say). Anyways, I like to write. Stories, adventures, romantic and happy stuff mixed up with sorrow and hardship, and bit of laughter here and there because the way I see it – life is way too short to go around feeling grumpy.

Will Rose finally get justice? If you love mystery and suspense, with an added romance bonus, this new novel by an Amazon bestselling author will keep you turning the pages all night long.

Excerpt:

It started to snow. Thick and heavy.

Deep in thought, she registered the brake lights of the car in front of her a nanosecond too late. Carola hit the brakes hard, and felt her truck fighting the slippery road. She managed to slow down enough to avoid crashing into the rear bumper of the car in front of her, but the right front wheel of her truck slid over the shoulder, hit the snow bank covering the ditch and came to a stop.

She moved into first gear and accelerated again. The truck buried itself deeper. Now both wheels, front and back, slid into the ditch. Leaning sideways, the truck would not right itself without being pulled.

Shit. Shit. Shit.

She hit the steering wheel with her bare hands.

She switched the hazard lights on, climbed out of the cab, walked to the side of the road to avoid oncoming traffic, and pulled out Maria’s cell.

No reception.

Shit, again.

Fat snowflakes danced around her face, seriously reducing visibility and muffling most sounds. Standing by the roadside was getting dangerous.

A pickup passed. A guy leaned across the passenger seat, the window slid down.

“Can I help you?”

Excerpt:

We headed for the bar in the informal restaurant and took a seat. Another bartender was on duty. He’d been watching a soccer game as he wiped down the top of the bar with a rag. Turning to us, he asked, “What can I get you folks?”

“Two pints of draft,” Ray said.

The hotel served great beer and you know the saying, ‘when in Rome…’

While we sipped our beers, Ray whispered into my ear, “Are you seeing what I’m seeing?”

“Are you referring to that couple sitting on the couch, namely the woman who’s been devouring you with her eyes?” I replied.

“I thought she was nearly salivating over you, too. But, the guy seems to be into you, as well.”

I laughed. “You think we should go over and talk to them?”

Ray grinned. “Sure. Why not?”

We slid off our bar stools and walked over to the thirty-something couple, who were most attractive in their own right.

Ray started the conversation. “We couldn’t help but notice that you both were staring at us. Is there something wrong?”

“No, mate, not at all,” the blond, blue-eyed hunk replied in a thick Aussie accent. “We just couldn’t help noticing how perfect you two complemented each other.”

“You’re quite an attractive couple yourselves,” I said.

The woman, a lithe, blonde beauty with long hair and legs to match, her eyes still running up and down the length of Ray’s body before finally settling below his belt, said in a similar accent, “Well, now, here we are, two attractive couples. Perhaps we should do something about that.”
