10 favorite places to visit

Please tell us why you would like to visit each of these places. They can be from today, the past or both.

1)       My absolute, all-time favorite place is sitting in my living room with my laptop on my lap. I can write and edit, yet still be in the center of the family going-ons. I have a husband and four kids and I love hanging out with them. It’s a happy balance.

2)       The basement in our old house in Jefferson City. It’s where I wrote A Second Chance when my four kids were toddlers. I had built my own desk in the toy room. When I wasn’t playing Barbies, Hot Wheels or dinosaurs, I was writing about Raven and Matthew.

3)       Table Rock Lake by Branson MO. Inspiration for the Luciano series (Book 1 comes out in July 2017-a murder/mystery) came from there. The architecture of some of the houses, the water, and the beaches, all helped bring that book to life.

4)       Any coffee house. To sip on a half-caf mocha with my computer out and headphones on is heaven. I can write for hours and drink lots of coffee.

5)       The beach for obvious reasons. So relaxing. Great ideas come from laying on a beach and listening to the ocean.

6)       Mountains, again, obvious reasons. God’s beauty is always inspirational!

7)       Standing in front of the kids I teach at church. I’m a totally honest person. I love to share what God has taught me throughout the week. After testing it out on them, I usually blog about it.

8)       Disney World. I was mesmerized how it mentally took you back into another time. I felt like a ten year old again, meeting princesses I was dumbfounded and often didn’t know how to act. I’m sure they all thought I was an idoit. Ha ha. But I was intrigued at how Walt Disney made you feel that transformed, because it’s what as an author, I want the reader invested in the characters, so much so that they come to life.

9)       Hawaii. I was blessed with a trip as a sponsor with my son and rest of the high school band. Want an inspiring and relaxing place. Nature inspires me to write and going to new places always gives me new ideas to write.

10)     Iowa. My birthplace. I grew up in Des Moines but we had a farm outside of town. I moved to Missouri when I was seventeen to go to college, but Iowa holds a special place in my heart. Like Raven, I’ve walked through tall fields of corn and weeds. I’ve seen the beauty of the state. It was my inspiration for the setting of A Second Chance.

Stay away from the window, don’t go outside when it’s storming and whatever you do, do not touch the orb.

Twelve-year-old Joshua Cooper’s grandpa has always warned him about the dangers of lightning. But Joshua never put much stock in his grandpa’s rumblings as anything more than the ravings of an old man with a vast imagination. Then one night, when Joshua and his best friend are home alone during a frightful storm, Joshua learns his grandpa was right. A bolt of lightning strikes his house and whisks away his best friend—possibly forever.

To get him back, Joshua must travel the Lightning Road to a dark place that steals children for energy. But getting back home and saving his friend won’t be easy, as Joshua must face the terrifying Child Collector and fend off ferocious and unnatural beasts intent on destroying him.

In this world, Joshua possesses powers he never knew he had, and soon, Joshua’s mission becomes more than a search for his friend. He means to send all the stolen children home—and doing so becomes the battle of his life.

Guest Post:

Characters That Create Themselves!

Characters can definitely arrive of their own will and on their time! Two examples of this happened in my book, Joshua and the Arrow Realm. The first is the character Oak. He suddenly appeared to me a third of the way through writing the book. His rough voice rang out and I saw him clearly as if he was sitting across from me. Here is what the main character, Joshua, sees when he first meets him:

“At the table sat a man with long, red, wavy hair tied behind his neck and a full mustache that curled up on either side of his mouth. His baggy yellowed shirt emphasized his thin arms, and a chain hung from his neck across sharp collarbones. A black square pendant with braided edges and a lion etched on the front dangled from it. One bony hand fingered a huge hunk of bread, green with mold. He ripped off a chunk with his chipped teeth and swallowed it in one bite, then he picked up a small rusty knife and twirled it in his hand as if debating whether to cut open one of those nasty looking potatoes. His eyes were like shards of amber glass, gleaming luminescent in the golden candlelight. They tightened as he studied us.”

Another example is Ash, leader of the Wild Childs. She magically appeared in the first scene literally from the snowstorm that blew in! She lives in tree houses as a Wild Child to escape the hunt of Queen Artemis. Here’s Joshua and his first encounter with her.

“The girl looked older than me, about seventeen, and as skinny as Charlie. She was dressed in snug pants and a tunic made of animal skin that fell above laced-up, fur rimmed boots. Her right leg twitched, revealing the top of a knife glinting from a leg holder with a handle wrapped in an oily rag. The girl shook her dripping hair, and a tangy smell of dying leaves and wet leather lifted from her. She leaned forward. Her suede satchel slid off her shoulder and down the arm of her baggy coat lined with buttons made from birch bark cut into ragged squares. A closer look at her lopsided clothes made me think they’d been cut from a crude pattern and unskillfully sewn with crooked black stitches.”

The first thing that appears to me when I write a book is dialogue. I think this is why characters pop to me out of nowhere! They appear and start talking to me without any prompting. It’s up to me as the scribe to tell their story. There is a scary outcome to this. In reading through the first draft of Joshua and the Arrow Realm, there were many scenes with characters I did not even recall writing! I contribute this to being in the “fiction dream” while writing as my characters literally speak through me. My husband knows I need to run off and be with my “other people”.  I’m sure glad he’s okay with that.

Book Blitz + #Giveaway: Draw Play by Tia Lewis @authortialewis @XpressoTours

Draw Play
Tia Lewis
Publication date: September 5th 2016
Genres: New Adult, Romance, Sports

Jake:
I can’t believe my coach assigned me a tutor. I’m all that on the field and between the sheets — who cares about my stupid grades?

But Claire doesn’t treat me like I’m dumb. When we’re not busy fighting, she actually encourages me. And with those sexy curves of hers, I know just how to thank her.

Claire:
I hate football players, but I need the money. Jake is just as cocky and arrogant as the worst of them … but his touch sets me on fire.

I have to believe he’s different, that he won’t use me and break my heart. Because I can’t stop wanting him. I just hope I survive the ride.

Q&A with Tia Lewis:

What inspired you to write Draw Play: A Sports Romance?

I wrote the story back when I was in college so it was pretty easy coming up with the characters. I, of course, love sexy football players so everything seemed to fit together.

When or at what age did you know you wanted to be a writer?

There wasn’t a particular age since I’ve always been interested in storytelling. However, the last few years was when I thought I could make a career out of it and actually went for it this year.

What is the earliest age you remember reading your first book?

Gosh. Probably when I was a toddler. I definitely didn’t know exactly what I was reading since I was so young but books were everywhere in the house. My mother is an avid reader and had piles of books all over the place so I would pick up one her books to read or one of the many in my children’s book collection.

What genre of books do you enjoy reading?

Anything erotic! I also LOVE dark romance!

What is your favorite book?

Hmm… That’s a tough question. I honestly can’t say what’s my favorite book because I have so many I love.

Who is your favorite author and why?

Another tough question! Off the top of my head, I’ll say Stephen King because that’s my mother’s favorite author and she got me hooked on his books at an early age.

When writing a book do you find that writing comes easy for you or is it a difficult task?

At first easy because I have so many ideas. It’s when I’m done writing and re-read it and think, “What the heck is this?” I have a tendency to go on tangents so the tricky part is staying focused.

Do you have any fuzzy little friends? Like a dog or a cat? Or any pets?

No pets but I do want a puppy.

What is your “to die for”, favorite food/foods to eat?

I love sweets however I can’t stand candy. My kind of sweets are pies, brownies, cakes, etc.

Do you have any advice for anyone that would like to be an author?

I’m still new in my author career, but I would say just go for it. Don’t be like me who waited years and years and let their stories pile up. Just do it and learn the ropes throughout the way.

Excerpt

“Where are we going?” she asked breathily as I literally dragged her toward the back of the bar.

“I don’t know yet.”

“We can go to my place.”

“Later.”

She clutched my hand as we passed the billiard room, the bathrooms, and an office. The narrow hallway had a few more doors before it ended with an exit door, which I assumed led to the back alley. We turned each doorknob we passed along the way, and the last one before the exit finally opened. I cut my eyes to the right to be sure no one saw us and pushed her inside, firmly shutting the door. As I fumbled on the wall for a light switch, my hand landed on the plastic toggle and I flipped it on.

We were standing in a storage closet lined with shelving. It was so small there was barely enough room for the two of us. Her pale eyes landed on mine, adjusting to the dim light.

What was I doing?

Doubt began to fester until I witnessed a stunning smile slowly spread across her face. My eyes watched her hands skim my chest to land on the waistband of my jeans. Our foreheads touched when both of our eyes focused on the motion her hands made, first unbuttoning and then unzipping.

Before my zipper hit the last tooth, my doubt took a hike.

It was hard to wrap my drunken brain around the fact that I had her with me for the taking in a supply closet. Just as her hand slipped inside the waistband of my briefs, the switch that controlled me for so fucking long flipped in my head, causing all hell to break loose.

I grabbed her hands and pushed her back against the door. The sudden shift in our bodies forced a gasp just before I crashed my lips to hers. Every moan she made I swallowed with my mouth. Our tongues frantically danced with the many years’ worth of pent-up sexual tension between us.

VBT + #Giveaway: Love Painted in Red by Cristiane Serruya @CrisSerruya @GoddessFish

Love Painted in Red
by Cristiane Serruya
GENRE:  Romance

BLURB:

Tavish MacCraig, thirty-three-year-old Highlander, forsook his medical and military career, after being a POW for 6 months in Afghanistan, to run his family’s internationally renowned art gallery in London, The Blue Dot. Despite being surrounded by wealth and beauty, Tavish’s days are bleak, his nights, living nightmares, and his heart, an empty shell. But when he meets Irish painter Laetitia Galen, a powerful and sizzling attraction ignites between them.

Laetitia, who fled hell on earth when she was sixteen, now works as a well-paid housekeeper in a forsaken country manor in Warwickshire and sells her paintings in an obscure gallery. To preserve her new life and recently found peace, she resists Tavish and The Blue Dot's fantastic offer of an exclusive contract.

Laetitia becomes Tavish’s obsession; Tavish, Laetitia’s unattainable dream.

Meanwhile, a man with a burning grudge plots his long-awaited revenge, which could destroy them all over again.

Excerpt:

The unusual sound of a motor rumble coming from the security system broke Laetitia’s concentration, making her frown at the new stencil.

On the camera she saw a car, its license plate unknown, coming down the lane toward the house.

Damn! I forgot to close the gates and turn on the alarm. Again!

Her carving knife clattered on the ground of the studio as she ran out. Pulling off her gloves, she entered the house by the kitchen and hurried to the hall.

A man was crossing her pebbled driveway and entering the front garden.

Laetitia knew that there were things in life that took their attraction from intricate symmetry, delicate structure, and innocent nature: rare orchids, unbroken seashells, and icy snowflakes; and those that were irresistible for their great power, refusal to be tamed, and dangerous potential: active volcanoes, huge waves, and craggy precipices.

And there were things that were simply too immense, too savage, or too intense to be contained in a single image or explained in mere words, even if there were a thousand of them.

The tall, powerfully built giant of a man walking toward her door belonged in the latter category, she was sure.

Wearing a tailored charcoal three-piece-suit, a baby-pink shirt, and a dark-gray tie, he was frighteningly male, terrifyingly beautiful, and vitally imposing.

His skin was an exquisite shade of the lightest coppery-gold. His mane was made of the darkest midnight-black silky locks, which shimmered under the soft sun. Wind-blown strands brushing against his forehead and wraparound glasses did nothing to diminish the sharpness of the man.

Who are you? By his firm strides, he wasn’t lost, which in her suspicious mind was not a good thing.

A funny flutter began in her stomach when he climbed the three steps to the double doors. His forehead creased for a moment, his ink-black brows going down, as if he was carefully weighing his next move.

Laetitia didn’t move but held her breath, waiting for him to leave, as she did whenever people came probing for information—when and if they came.

She didn’t know if she was afraid or excited, when, using one of the old iron lion knockers, he banged twice and called, “Ms. Galen?”

Even muffled by the old oak-carved doors and thick brick walls, his voice was a deep baritone, rich and sensual. It seemed to wash over her like warm rain on a summer night.

Damn. He knows me. She frowned and walked stealthily to the front door.

Cleopatra entwined around her calf, purring as if approving of the man outside.

Laetitia debated with herself: she had been careful ever since she had left Ireland in the dark of night, and she’d never had contact with such masculine power, yet there was her matured, innate sense saying that the danger he posed was not the one she feared.

Cleopatra tilted her head at her and lazily walked back to the kitchen, giving her a last look, encouraging her to open the door.

“Traitor,” she whispered, yet agreeing with her in some measure. She wanted an opportunity for a bit of unruly emotions to let her unthawed heart beat again.

He knocked again and called louder, “Ms. Galen.”

There was a quiet command in his deep voice. It compelled her.

Laetitia opened her door. “May I help you?”

Guest Post:

Hello Nancy, and thanks for hosting me. I’m so happy to be here with you and your readers today.

What is your writing process? For instance do you do an outline first? Do you do the chapters first?

I am a multiple-genre author. I’ve published a philosophical essay, contemporary romances, an erotic novella, and my first kid’s story in the oven will be published by the end of 2016.

There is not exactly a why I write them. Although I try to plan the plot, it usually gets out of my hands while I’m developing it and the same occurs with my characters.

For example, Tavish Uilleam MacCraig, the lead male character of Love Painted in Red appeared on my first release Entwined Fates, TRUST Series #1. The sour brother of the lead charcter—Alistair Connor MacCraig—he was supposed to be a secondary character. Yet, my characters are kind of rebels and very opinionated and sometimes they don’t like to follow my outline and planning for them, demanding more. Tavish grew so much as a character during TRUST Series that he demanded his story to be told. *smile*

He was a great character to write, but as the plot unfolded, I realized I didn’t want him being a war hero and a veteran just as a background for his love story with Laetitia. I wanted the readers to feel his pain and I wanted him to be a believable veteran dealing with PTSD. So I interviewed many veterans online. It was an enlightening and heartbreaking experience and it helped me create new scenes and developments, which were not planned at first.

He came out beautifully—or so I like to think—with his physical and psychological scars and yet full of life strength and vigor. Love Painted in Red is my homage to those who dedicate themselves to make this world safer.

Another example? The Diaries Series. FROM THE BARONESS’S DIARY: The erotic escapades of Baron Beardley’s wife is its first installment and it started with a single diary entry I wrote and was supposed to be a bonus scene for the print version of my contemporary romance Love Painted in Red, where Laetitia, the female lead character used the late Baroness’s diaries to develop a series of erotic paintings. I realized I would be doing a disservice to my readers if I didn’t develop Lady Chloé Beardley’s own story, so many new characters appeared in my life as Lady Chloé began to tell me her story. The Diaries Series is a 20th century romantic erotica and FROM THE BARONESS’S DIARY is already on pre-order on Amazon and it will be released on September 13th, 2016.

Book Blast + #Giveaway: Domestic Discipline by Cara Bristol @CaraBristol @GoddessFish

Domestic Discipline
by Cara Bristol
GENRE: Erotic Romance

BLURB:

Love, desire, domination, and submission. Two domestic discipline romances by USA Today bestselling author Cara Bristol in one volume.

Wife on the Lam

Janelle wants to take a luxury vacation for her wedding anniversary. Despite numerous hints, husband Brent misses all the clues and plans a business trip! Miffed, she flies off alone to a luxury resort. She’s going to celebrate—with or without him.

Brent didn’t have to work. He’d planned a second honeymoon to the luxury Cabana Resort. Janelle might have ruined his surprise, but he’s not going to let her ruin their anniversary, too. He has a little trick up his sleeve to take his errant wife in hand and get their marriage back on track.

Rahm’s Way

Before her military husband left for his tour of duty, Cadence Simmons relied on Rahm’s love, direction, and protection. His absence forced her to become more independent and make decisions for herself. After serving his country, he’s home for good and eager to resume their marriage as it was before. Only Cadence isn’t quite sure she wants things exactly as they were. Can domestic discipline guide this couple through some major changes?

Excerpt:

Could she call the States from Isla Island? Because Brent traveled so much they had a comprehensive cell plan. She powered up her phone. Seconds later a text message beeped through. Her hand shook as she recognized Brent’s number.

Can’t believe U did this. Where R U?

She texted him back. Cabana Resort, Isla Island. I’m sorry.

She widened her eyes when seconds later a response popped up. He must have been waiting for her message. She could imagine his fury. Fortunately she was hundreds of miles away. Of course, if she hadn’t been hundreds of miles away, he wouldn’t be mad. With any hope, he’d cool off some by the end of the week. Or would he be angrier by then?

U R in so much trouble. B there Thurs.

Did that mean what it sounded like? She gulped. U R coming here? Yes. We’ll talk.

Talk was often a euphemism, but of course she wanted him to join her. Her heartfelt wish had been for her and Brent to take the trip together. And she was ninety-nine percent sure he wouldn’t spank her at a resort.

A young couple bounded onto the van. They greeted her with a hello and settled into a seat near the front on her side. Two women, arm-in-arm, wheeled their suitcases to the curb and boarded. More hellos. Of course everyone would be paired up. Cabana Resort promoted itself as a couples’ getaway.

Can’t U come sooner? She texted Brent.

Got the mtg.

Oh, right. His meeting. This wasn’t all her fault. He’d provoked her by his cluelessness.

Fine! She punched in her response.

This was Saturday. She’d make the most of the next five days before Brent arrived and she gave him a piece of her mind.

Teaser Tuesday: Icarus Rising by N.W. Moors @antrimcycle @RABTBookTours

Paranormal Romance
Date Published: 9/6/16
Publisher: Sunday Morning Publishing

 photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

After his fall to Earth, Icarus has been in Hell, punished for his hubris. When he wins a chance at parole, he's thrilled - except for the set of wings attached to his body.

Eve Gregory runs a small bookstore in northern Connecticut. When she hires the handsome stranger to work for her, she doesn't know the secrets he's hiding. Or that becoming involved with him will embroil her with the Greek gods and goddesses.

Icarus and Eve must perform a quest set down for them by Zeus. If they are successful, will that be end of their relationship? Or will love teach them a new way to soar?

Teaser

Athena sat on the edge of the bed, going through her purse. Icarus grimaced, but went to his bag and pulled out a shirt and pair of jeans that weren't too wrinkled. Athena was right—he did need some new clothes—but he was not going shopping with her looking over his shoulder. He grabbed his shaving kit and the clothes and headed for the bathroom.
The shower was hot and worked surprisingly well. Once Icarus had finished washing, shaved, and dressed in his clean clothes, he felt much better. He came out of the bathroom to find Athena had opened his laptop and was typing away. Apparently, passwords were not a problem for ancient Goddesses of Wisdom.
"What are you doing?" he asked.
"I'm updating my Wikipedia page. Some of this information is incorrect," she replied absently.
Icarus laughed. "Don't you think they might find it odd if you add material that the modern world doesn't know about you?"
Athena pouted. "I have added it before, but they keep removing it since it doesn't have proper sources." She shrugged and closed the laptop cover. "Ready?"
"I guess so."
Athena waved a hand, and he was back in front of the bookstore. No one on the street seemed to notice his sudden appearance.
Icarus was abruptly nervous. He was not worried about the job; he was pretty sure he was more than qualified for making lattes and recommending books. Eve Gregory was the object of his concern. Petite little Eve with her golden eyes and black hair framing her oval face. Pretty, too-trusting-for-her-own-good Eve. Whatever scheme Athena had in mind also involved Eve, and that was worrisome. He straightened his shoulders, opened the door, and walked into the store.
