Blog Tour + #Giveaway: Secrets of Artemis by C.K. Brooke @authorckbrooke @yaboundtourspr

Secrets of Artemis (Teen Goddess #1)
by
C.K. Brooke
Genre: YA Romantic Mythology
Release Date: October 29th 2015

Summary from Goodreads:

Not even the god of gods could command my heart not to love…

In Ancient Greece, the goddess Artemis was venerated as a maiden huntress, swift with her bow and arrows, and eternally chaste. But could there be more to her story? Perhaps Lady Artemis had envisioned quite a different destiny than the one her father, Zeus, had chosen for her. What if she hadn’t merely pined after the giant huntsman, Orion, but had secretly partaken of a forbidden romance with him?

From prolific fantasy writer C.K. Brooke comes an original divine novel, in which Artemis’s classic myths are retold as never before, in her own voice, as the young goddess sets the record straight and reveals the true account of her immortal life – and love.

My Review of Midnight Prince:

Ari is still trying to fulfill her contract so she can save her mother.

But now Lucian has thrown a spin into the mist with another different contract.

Ari wants to save all the people of Inferna; the Fae, the Vampires, and the Shades from Lucian.

Fen is tired of fighting, tired of being the Prince of War, and the Prince of Death. He just wants to take Ari and go live out their lives in peace on Earth.

Ari is torn between the love of her life, Fen, her mother and the people of Inferna.

What should she do? Be selfish and go with Fen? Save her mother? Or save the Fae, the Vampires, and the Shade? What is a girl to do?

This is the last book in the Vampire Girl series and I must say I am so sad to see it end. I have read and loved all the books in the Vampire Girl series. I have loved following Ari on her journey through Inferna with Fen, Baron, Yami, Kayla, Asher, Ace, Dean, Levi, and all the Prince of Hell along with all the other characters. Ari is one of the most kind and soft hearted people I know and I am going to miss her, Fen, Barron and Yami very much. I have always loved how Ari sees everybody as one!

If you have not read Moonlight Prince: Vampire Girl #4 then let me suggest you pick up your copy today and begin! This has been the most epic ride of all! Hope to see you all in future books; The Princes of Hell, Air, Barron, Yami, Kaya….

A Sunset Reads Novel Book 1
by D.C. Triana
Genre: Romantic Suspense

Within the doors of Sunset Reads William Jameson has come home to take over his mother’s New York publishing house after her death. He’s ready to turn things around when an electrifying encounter with the company’s sexy bestselling author makes him change his priorities to more sensual plans. While his cruel stepfather has decided he wants control of the company, William tries to remain focused as images of soft brown eyes and sensual lips continue to keep him up at night.
Cristina Cruz suddenly finds herself with part ownership of Sunset Reads. Not only has the previous owner left her with part of the publishing house, but also at the mercy of her son William, the company’s handsome new CEO, who seems to be determined to drive her crazy. Not only is he annoyingly attractive, but his alluring blue eyes continue to send shivers down her spine. Working side by side with him becomes all the more torturous as his enticing looks and their heated encounters send her senses reeling.

Sunset Reads: Damian & Layla
A Sunset Reads Novel Book 2

One year.
It’s been one year since Agent Damian Trent left for Washington without a word.
One year since he’s seen her beautiful face.
One year since he’s heard his name on her lips.
He's been recently called back to New York City on assignment, to catch a criminal who’s trying to infiltrate Sunset Reads. The last thing he expects is to work side by side with the woman he turned his back on.
Having her close is an unwanted distraction that he’s more than willing to ignore, if only she wasn’t so damn tempting.
Everything seems under control, until a night of feverish passion has him abandoning all thoughts of reason. Now, he will do everything in his power to get her back, and even more so to protect her.

Layla Reece wants nothing to do with the man who left her a year ago.
The man who took her heart with him, leaving her broken.
After a year of trying to forget Damian Trent, she is finally ready to move on.
But trying to forget him becomes a tedious task when he suddenly reappears in her life.
Although she fights to stay away, his magnetism is too strong and she finds herself giving into the deep timbre of his voice, and the strength and safety of his arms.
Staying away from Damian turns out to be futile, especially when his kisses consume her and his heart shatters the walls she spent so much time building.
Finding herself in danger, she now has to turn to the only man she trusts to keep her safe, but can she trust him enough to give him her heart once again?

Damian and Layla Excerpt

As she hurried to the back of the tent, a hand reached out for her and pulled her into the bushes. Before she could let out a scream, her mouth was covered and a deep voice whispered in her ear. “Don’t scream. It’s me.”

She immediately recognized Damian’s voice and more so the feel of his body pressed against her back. He slowly turned her to face him, all the while making sure to keep her in his embrace.

Layla looked up at him with wide eyes, “What are you doing here?” she breathed. “You scared the crap out of me!” She smacked him in the arm with her purse.

“What are you doing here?” he returned.

“I work here.”

“What?”

“I’m Sunset Reads’ new PR Director.”

His brow furrowed at her news, and then his eyes traveled lower, down her throat, over her collarbone, to the low-cut of the dress and the tempting view of her full breasts. He swallowed hard and it took everything in him not to take her deeper into the park and have his way with her.

“What the hell are you wearing?” His voice came out deep and husky.

She looked down at herself, and realized that Damian had a lovely view straight down her dress. She quickly squirmed out of his grasp and took a step back. “It’s called a dress, and stop looking at me like that!”

“Hey, it’s not my fault you look sexy as hell in that thing. It’s barely covering anything!”

Layla was grateful for the lack of light; that way Damian couldn’t see the bright blush on her cheeks.
His eyes were all over her, but she secretly enjoyed the appreciation in them. It brought hot tingling sensations across her lower abdomen, and erased any semblance of Gus Schwartz’s dark leering glare.

She shook her head, trying to clear her lust-hazed thoughts and said slowly, “I asked you what you were doing here.”

He pressed a finger to her lips as a couple passed by and she stared at him with dark eyes. After a moment, he looked down at her. Seemingly distracted, he grazed her plump bottom lip with his thumb.

“I’m undercover,” he whispered.

A slight thrill ran up her spine and she looked around them into the dark night. “Are we in danger?”

“If Schwartz keeps staring at you like that he will be.”

“What do you care if he stares at me?”

“I care. I care a lot,” he said calmly but tightened his grip on her arms.

“You didn’t care for a whole year, Damian. What does it matter now?”

“Stay away from him, Layla, he’s not a good man.” He looked down at her once again, his eyes intense and his jaw held tight. After a long moment, he stepped around her preparing to leave.

“Wait!” she whispered, grabbing his arm.

He looked back at her, an eyebrow lifted, waiting.

She quickly released his arm. “Does William know about this?”

He shook his head. “No, and I prefer to keep it that way for now.”

“What? You have to tell him. He’s about to do business with him!”

She now had his full attention. “Are you sure?”

She nodded. “They were just talking about it. William wants Skyline to manage the technological advances at Sunset Reads. We’ve set up a meeting.”

“We’ve?” he asked

“I’m the Director, Damian. Who else is going to be his contact if not me?”

Damian frowned. “I’ll talk with William, but you… I need you to remain as far away from Schwartz as possible.”

She looked behind her towards the party. “I had a feeling he couldn’t be trusted. Tell me,” she turned back to Damian, “what did he do?”

Damian shook his head, looking off into the distance as if in thought. “Nothing that can be proven yet, but I have a feeling he’s connected to someone big. Someone who can hurt William and Cristina.”

“Damian?”

He looked at her. “Just do your job and forget I was here.” He quickly went back to the party, leaving Layla alone.

“If you only knew how hard that is,” she whispered in the empty space.

EXCERPT:

Minerva (2016)

“The accident is a lie.”

“What do you mean? You keep saying that.”

The face staring back at her was the same one she remembered from all those years ago. Kind, caring, patient. But older now. The playful smile the boy had once worn had vanished behind a mask she couldn’t seem to penetrate now that he was a man. She hadn’t seen him for years, but this was how she’d always imagined he’d look all grown up: the soft brown eyes, the pale complexion just brushed by a touch of sunshine, the auburn hair unkempt and uncut, cascading down across his left eye. She’d always stared at that; it distracted her. And he’d always noticed, brushing it back the moment she became aware of it.

His brow lowered slightly, as if to say, “You’re staring.” But he said nothing. Even the words he did speak seemed silent to her somehow, as if she were in a dream …

She moaned in her sleep and tried to turn her body, but the vice grip held her, the paralysis that had been with her since the accident.

In her dream, concern flitted across his face, apparent even in the dim glow of the candle that burned beside her bed. Its light had always comforted her, and at times, she’d stared into the flame as it flickered for moments on end, imagining she was a part of it. The thought of that soothed her, one of the few things in this world that did.

“Stay with me,” he said, his tone resolute.

“I can’t move,” she protested.

“Yes, you can. All you have to do is remember how you felt before all this. Before the accident and the lies it’s telling you.”

“You’re the liar,” she whispered, her voice whispered venom.

He looked hurt now, and pulled away from her, that resolve appearing to evaporate at the sound of her voice. In the same moment, he seemed farther away, the reflected candlelight that had danced in his eyes a few moments earlier now a fading glow that illumined little more than his forehead and the tip of his nose.

“I’m telling you the truth,” he said, but she could barely hear him. A part of her wanted to believe what he was saying. Not a part – all of her. But in the instant she acknowledged that desire, she was aware it could not be.

She tried to turn her body again.

Nothing.

Her jaw clenched tight, and she began to tremble with the effort.

“Not that way,” he said.

“Then … how!” Her voice was louder than she intended, and he pulled away further into the shadows.

“Wait,” she said, softening her tone. “Don’t go. You have to tell me … about the accident.”

“It’s not important now,” he said, moving forward slightly again, into the candlelight.

“Not important? Then how do you explain this?” She nearly spat the words at him, and he averted his eyes.

“See?” she said. “You can’t even bear to look at me. If the accident didn’t happen, how did I get like this?

He sat up straighter and held her gaze again, his eyes locking on hers so that, this time, it was she who wished to glance away. But he held her there by force of will. “Min, you’re beautiful.”

No one ever called her that but him.

Review + #Giveaway: Captain Hawkins by H. Peter Alesso @GoddessFish

Captain Hawkins
by H. Peter Alesso
GENRE: Sci-fi

BLURB:

Jamie Hawkins was living on an obscure planet in the twenty third-century when on one fateful night--his life changed forever. His heroic effort to save the lives of innocent women and children, caught in the cross-fire of war, placed him squarely in the cross-hairs of avenging soldiers.

Hawkins was stunned when his rescue effort was seen as treachery. Unfairly convicted of treason by a corrupt judge, he was sentenced to life imprisonment at hard labor on an infamous penal colony.

Once in prison, his courage and perseverance won him the admiration and trust of his fellow convicts. While he was plotting his escape, an enemy attacked the planet--giving this daring warrior his chance. Together with his fellow prisoners, he launched a bold assault and high-jacked an enemy warship.

From then on, Captain Jamie Hawkins and his ship the Indefatigable fought against a corrupt government--only to discover a mysterious alien presence behind the war.

Excerpt:

“Sir, I was working with the data techs trying to analyze the communication patterns of the enemy fleet,” said Joshua, licking his dry lips, excitedly. “And I’ve came across a very unusual signal.”

Hawkins gave him an encouraging nod.

“It was a burst of radio signals from deep space. I traced it to either a 4 billion-year-old star in a constellation 44.4 light years away, or to another star in that same constellation, but much farther away. That means that the radio waves have been travelling to us for at least forty-four point four years.”

Hawkins said, “Deep space radio signals have many plausible explanations, such as radio interference from planets, or rogue signals caused by local planet microwave devices.

“That’s true, Captain. It could be just the effect of a natural space object like a pulsating quasar, but it’s also possible . . . I think maybe . . . it could be a message from another civilization.”

Now smiling broadly, Hawkins said, “Given the unlikeness of that, why are you concerned?”

“Because it was not a one-off event,” said Joshua excitedly and then pausing to catch his breath. “I’ve recorded a half dozen repeating signals from the exact same source.”

Nodding, Hawkins said, “That’s a little more interesting, but there are explanations for that too.”

“But Captain, the implications could be mind-blowing. Imagine, what if it was an alien civilization, and they were far more advanced than us, and they were trying to make contact? After centuries of fruitlessly scanning the stars and finding no evidence that anyone else is out there, this could be . . .  could be . . .”

Joshua became paralyzed by his own imagination.

“Joshua, even if this signal were not natural, it might still be the product of one of Earth’s colonies—not aliens.”

“No sir, I’ve checked. There were no Earth colonies in the vicinity of the signal’s star cluster when we last had contact with Earth, fifty years ago,” said Joshua.

Joshua wanted to argue further, but couldn’t offer any additional proof for his cause.

Hawkins said, “I agree, we should continue to monitor this frequency, but for now, it’ll have to remain a mystery.”

It was only a few days later that Joshua returned to argue, “I’ve been working to decrypt the deep space signal using our AI computer with the help of a data tech.”

Hawkins was surprised, but also impressed with Joshua’s initiative.

“What does a deep space signal have to do with our enemy’s Top Secrets communication network?”

“Everything.”

“You’ll have to explain that.”

“Let me give you a metaphor for how I solved this puzzle, because it is a puzzle.”

“Go on.”

“Think of a portrait of a woman, say the Mona Lisa. Now consider a jigsaw puzzle of the Mona Lisa—a picture of a woman cut into a thousand irregularly sized pieces and spread out for someone to reassemble.”

“A kid’s game.”

“Yes, sir.”

My Review:

Captain Jamie Hawkins sets out to help innocence people at a hospital who are under attack and soon after finds himself in prison for treason. After he is attacked in prison and almost loses his life Jamie along with other inmates escape. Captain Hawkins runs into a group of rebels who are fighting the government. Jamie can’t resist stepping in and helping the rebels out once he sees they need his help. Now he finds himself and escaped convict and a rebel too.

Captain Hawkins was once a Marine and never thought he would find himself in the predicament that he is in now but he can’t seem to mind his own business or keep from helping innocence people. Captain Hawkins is very courageous man who will always be on to stop and help the innocent in any way he can. He may be a big Marine but he has a soft heart when it comes to kids like Joshua.

Joshua is the one who sort of helped Jamie get where he is today when he showed up at his house that eventful night asking Jamie to come to the hospital where his mom worked to help save the people who worked there and the patients; innocent women and children.

Will Captain Hawkins, Joshua and the rest of the rebels win their fight against the government? Will they make their voice heard? Will the stand that they are making change anything? How many lives will have to be lost before they will see a change in their future?

Captain Hawkins will take you to worlds you have not visited to before. Captain Hawkins will take you on the adventure of a lifetime. Come join Captain Hawkins on his journeys through space. If you love Star Trek then you are going to love Captain Hawkins.
