Review: The Path By H.K. Savage @HKSavage @GHBTours

The Path
By- H.K. Savage
Genre- Paranormal Romance

Magick is real. And there is a secret world complete with its own agency, Veritas, to control those who would wield their power over "regulars", or threaten the secrecy that keeps them all safe from the persecution that nearly destroyed them. For Cassie, a mixed blood witch, it's the only world she's ever known though she's never embraced her role as agent for Veritas. For Drew, a witch born to a non-magickal family, it answers so many of his questions. It is also the cause of so much loss and pain. And now, as he and Cassie attempt to find his missing brother, rumored to be working with a rogue witch and cult leader, it threatens to take the last of his family. Or will magick save it?

My Review:

I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Cassie Porter is a witch in training well actually she is an investigator in training for the Veritas agency. She has two partners who have taken her under their wings to help train her how to use her powers without them getting away from her and she loses control of them. Cassie has tried so hard to learn how to control her powers and to make something of herself. She would very much like to make her family proud of her especially her father since her mother is no longer living. She will do whatever it takes to keep her job as an investigator and to help her family. That might not be as easy as she thinks with a heart like hers which is made of gold.

Cassie is on what just may be her last assignment for the agency if she doesn't learn how to use her magic without it getting out of control. So with this job she will go beyond the call of duty if that is what it takes to come out on top. But things are not a simple as she really wanted them to be. This guy Terry Pritchard is a witch also may have turned out to be a lot stronger than they anticipated. He takes and uses powers from other witches to make him stronger. He has plans to take over the whole world.

Cassie and her partners get a clue that he hangs out at this night club on occasion. This night club is owned and operated by two brothers who lost their parents when they were young. The oldest brother has for whatever reason gotten himself involved with this Pritchard dude. Most of the time his brother Drew has no idea where he is, what he is doing or when he will or if he will ever see him again. Drew will do anything for his brother Brandon even if It cost him his own life.

When Cassie goes to the club undercover looking for Pritchard or trying to find a clue as to his whereabouts. She meets up with Drew and boy do the sparks start flying. Only Cassie is not sure if what she is feeling is her or Drew after she finds out what Drew's magical powers are. Beside all that sometimes they have to cross the line to find the bad witches before they kill or ruin more people's lives.

Cassie is determined to save both of her partners Julia and Quad's life as well as Drew's life and Drew is determined to save his brother and Cassie both. So who will save who? Will they all make it out alive or will someone die while trying to save someone else? Who will live and who will die? Well I could tell you I guess but as I say "that is not my story to tell". That is H.K. Savage's story to tell. And if you pick up a copy of The Path today you will not be disappointed that is if you like witches and magic. Which are two of the things that I can't get enough of.

I hope this is not the last book in this series. I would very much love the opportunity to read more about Cassie, Drew, Brandon, Julia and Quad. I just know they have a lot more that they would just love to tell us about. I can't wait to read more of H.K. Savage's stories. I think I have found another favorite author to add to the top of my list.

About the Author-
HK lives in the frozen hinterlands of the far North.  The long, cold months provide ample opportunity to hunker down with her computer and create adventures far more enticing than scraping ice and getting frostbite.

Between books HK reads voraciously.  Anything with a good plot and compelling characters are her broad parameters.  One is as likely to catch her with a copy of Don Quixote as with the latest Kristen Ashley.

When not writing or wowing the corporate world by day, HK practices martial arts, plays with her dogs and matches wits with her teen. Next winter she intends to brush up on her Spanish and escape the cold for somewhere more tropical.

On top of tip toeing around egos, discretion needed to be maintained while feeding Walker's infamous sexual appetite.

She never expected Walker to focus his wandering eyes on her. When her past returned fighting Walker didn't seem as vital as keeping him alive. Walking away should be easy, but first they must all make it through unharmed.

Excerpt:

Charlie grinned at me as he was walking in and at least held the doors so I could get out. I jogged across the lot and back up to the bus. I could hear the shouting within three feet of the door.
“You’re not my fucking boss,” a very angry Nicholas roared.
Rolling my eyes—this was the worst first day of tour I’ve ever had—I painted a smile on and climbed back onto the bus.
“I’ve got dinner guys, and turtle cheesecake blizzards.” I pretended to be surprised to see Nicholas out of his room. “Hey. Guy said you’d be okay with a bacon burger and a baked potato but I can go get something else if you’d like. There’s ice cream here too. And I’ve got this box of Joe and a bag full of coffee condiments if you prefer.”
“I could go for some ice cream,” Nicholas muttered and took the DQ carrier and wandered over to the kitchenette counter to dig for a spoon. “Cool, chocolate and caramel.”
Arc grinned at me—his back was to Nicholas—and took the coffee and condiments.
“Smells good, Stilts.” Max set the table.
“If you want coffee after dinner, I make a cup that rivals Starbucks.” I offered.
“Yeah?” Guy sat and began opening the bags I set down.
I wrung my hands and watched them unload the bags. Arc and Max sat devouring their meals in great gulping mouthfuls.
“Why aren’t you eating?” Nicholas asked and I jolted.
I turned to see him leaning against the counter and licking ice cream off a spoon. His eyes narrowed and focused on me. My stomach tightened and I quickly looked away. Why was watching the man eat such a sensual act?
“I will. Once I know everything is good and I don’t have to run back for anything. Did you want something specific? I can go get something else. I’m sorry, we were only guessing at your meal, I should have asked but you seemed put off so I thought—”
“You’re babbling, Songbird.” Nicholas tossed the empty ice cream cup and picked up a second one.
“You’re going to get sick if you eat all those without eating a meal first,” I chided lightly. Grabbing his plate from the table, I held it out.
“You going to feed me too?” He lifted a brow.
I didn’t sigh, but it was a close call. Why was he so much like my brother, Benjamin? I picked up the fork, dipped into the loaded potato, and held it out. “Do you want the airplane noise too?”
“Do you make good airplane noises?”
I sighed. “Yes or no, Walker.”
He studied me. “You’d do it. If I asked.”
“Walker.”
“No.” He leaned forward and took the potatoes off the fork. He chewed and swallowed. “These don’t taste like fast food.”
I held out another forkful. “As long as it’s good what’s it matter?”
“Touché.” He took the plate and began to feed himself.
Score. Me—one. Nicholas—zero.
