Blog Tour + Review + #Giveaway: Curse of Stars by Donna Compositor @dcompbooks @XpressoTours

Curse of Stars
Donna Compositor
(Diamond Crier #1)
Publication date: February 19th 2017
Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult

Sabi Perez is the last Diamond Crier, only she doesn’t know it. Not until a crazed ruler from another world comes to collect her priceless tears and won’t take no for an answer.

Living in New York, Sabi’s seen some nasty things, but the lengths to which her captor will go to keep his crown are things found only in the darkest nightmares. Afraid and alone, Sabi finds solace in her cellmate, Anya, and Cabal, a fellow Crier who also has powers, a rare combination that buys his favor from the ruler. Only it’s a favor he doesn’t want.

In a fit of rage, power erupts out of Sabi, the same power Cabal has, and a spark of hope ignites. Together they may have a chance at escape, something no other Crier has done. Except a ruler hellbent on draining them of every last diamond tear isn’t their only hurdle. If they escape they’ll be hunted to the ends of the earth, if they survive the trek to safety. If they stay the ruler will leech them dry. Sabi would rather die trying than lie down and die, even if that means running away into even more danger.

“. . . vividly imagined and deftly plotted dark fantasy . . .” BookLife Prize in Fiction

My Review:

Sabi Perez along with her parents and little sister find themselves on the run from a man from another world. Sabi has no idea why this man is chasing them or what he wants. Sabi soon learns that she is a diamond crier and that this man, Jeviar wants her tears.

Later Sabi finds herself in a cell with another girl Anya whose tears this guy Jeviar is taking as well. She finds out that they are not the only ones that Jeviar has taken. Sabi finds out later that Jeviar has more in store for her than just draining her tears things that Sabi wants no part of and has no intentions of being this man’s prisoner for the rest of her life or until she is dry whichever comes first.

After Sabi discovers her powers and learns that another prisoner; Cabal is from the same place as she is and that he has powers like her they start to make plans to escape. They know once they escape that their lives will never be their own as Jeviar will hunt them down and they will be on the run and hiding till the day they die or he does.

If they can make it to sanctuary, their home maybe they can find the help they need to stand up against Jeviar and put a stop to what he and his wrong doings. Can they find their safe place? Can they find someone to help them? Can they find someone to stand up for them? Will Jeviar find them and take them back?

Come take a journey with Sabi, Anya and Cabal as they face their many obstacles while they are imprisoned; on their planning and escape from Javiar. If you like books that are filled with action and adventure and are very mysterious then Curse of Stars is just the book for you.

Author Bio:
Donna has been writing since she was in the single digits when she first realized she needed to do something about all the thoughts in her head. After a stint with bad poetry she finally found her way to novels, mainly of the young adult fantasy variety. When she’s not cranking out more stories she works a regular 9 to 5, reads anywhere from 2 to 3 books a week, drinks copious amounts of tea, eats way too much, and makes her own beauty products because her skin turns into a sentient hive if she uses anything else. This is mostly because she lives in the desert where the air siphons water clean out of her. She lives with a man named Steve and several quadrupeds: three cats named Renfield, Sam, and Dean; and a MinPin named Malfoy.

by Wendy Qualls

Pub Date: 8/15/2017

But when an old college crush shows up on campus—looking more gorgeous than ever—Paul’s long-suppressed urges are just too big for one little closet to hold . . .

Brandon Mercer has come a long way since his freshman year fumblings with Paul. Now he’s confident, accomplished, proudly out—and the sexiest IT consultant Paul’s ever seen. When Brandon asks Paul to grab some coffee and catch up, it leads to a steamy reunion that puts their first night of passion to shame. But when Paul’s longtime crush turns into a full-time romance, he receives an anonymous email threatening to expose their secret to the world. If Paul stays with Brandon, his teaching career is over. Yet if he caves under pressure, he risks losing the one true love he’s been waiting for. . .

An Eye for an Eye

As owner of Dirty Deeds, a tech-savvy company specializing in the age-old art of revenge, Eden Smith knows first-hand that secrecy is critical. But when a dead body washes up on the shores of Lake Michigan clutching her business card, Eden’s well-constructed world begins to fall apart. A Game for a Game
Hardened homicide detective Kelly Riordan is convinced Eden Smith is hiding more than she’s willing to admit. Years on the force have taught him that nothing is what it seems, and that couldn’t be truer than when it comes to investigating the alluring owner of a revenge-for-hire business. But revealing her past could put everything Eden has worked for in jeopardy. And trusting a man like Riordan goes against the very instincts that have kept her alive this long.

NBTM + #Giveaway: Call to Honor by Tawny Weber @TawnyWeber @GoddessFish

Call to Honor: A SEAL Brotherhood Novel, #1
by Tawny Weber
GENRE:  Contemporary Romance

BLURB:

“No man left behind” is inscribed in the DNA of every SEAL and Lieutenant Diego Torres is no exception. But with a team member killed—and the body missing— Diego’s honor is sorely tested. Now his career and reputation are on the line, and a traitor is hiding among them. Diego wants answers...and only one woman has them.

Single mom Harper Maclean has two priorities—raising her son Nathan and starting a new life. Her mysterious new neighbor may be impossibly charming, but Diego asks too many questions about her past—and about the father of her child. Questions she fears will reveal her burning attraction for Diego, and ultimately put them all in danger’s path.

Excerpt:

Harper’s frown intensified. All of this dating and sex talk was stupid. All it did was stir up thoughts of Brandon, bad memories and hurt feelings. And like anything to do with Brandon Ramsey, the second one thought occurred, a million followed. He was the poster boy for taking a mile when an inch was all she’d offered.

No more, she ordered herself. He wasn’t a part of her now, and her past was over.

“Registered letter for one Mr. Nathan Ramsey, care of Harper Maclean,” Andi said, coming back waving a large envelope. “Who’d get his name wrong?”

The bowl of cleaned berries suddenly shaking in her hands, Harper set it on the bar with care and stared. Her chest hurt. She couldn’t think for the buzzing in her ears.

Ramsey.

Harper’s heart raced so fast, it tripped over itself. How was that possible? Why would Brandon contact Nathan? As far as he knew, she’d followed his instructions to end the pregnancy. How did he know she’d had the baby? How did he know Nathan’s name? Had he always known?

The air locked in Harper’s chest, vicious and tight, cutting off her breath, sending shards of pain knifing through her.

Why was he contacting her? Contacting Nathan?  Was he going to try to get custody?

Or had his parents gotten wind of unaccounted Ramsey DNA and tracked down their heir apparent?

Harper looked toward the stairs with a desperate gaze. She should get Nathan. They should go. Now.

As soon as she thought that, Harper squared her shoulders.

To hell with that. Nathan was her son. This was her home. She’d be damned if Brandon or his rich parents were going to screw with either.

Still, her hand trembled so much as she took the letter that she dropped it onto the marble countertop as if it were on fire.

“Harper,” Andi moaned. “You’re killing me. Open. Open. Open.”

Knowing Andi would keep it up until she did, she huffed out a hot breath. Sliding her thumbnail under the flap, Harper reluctantly tugged the paper out.

She noted the official-looking insignia and the fancy lettering denoting it to be from Admiral H. M. Cree, Special Ops commander.

Her brow creased as she read.

The room narrowed, and all the air disappeared. The words spun into a swirling blur of black on white. She needed to sit down. But she managed only a single step before her legs gave out and she sank to the floor, the letter clutched in her hands.

“What is it?” Instead of pulling her back up, Andi dropped down next to her, gathering Harper into her arms. She tried to read the paper, but Harper couldn’t let it go. “Sweetie, what does it say?”

“He’s dead,” Harper murmured, her voice sounding as if it were coming from the other end of a long tunnel. “Brandon is dead.”

Interview with Tawny Weber

Do you ever wish you were someone else? Who?

I’ve made a lot of wishes over the years, but I don’t think I’ve ever wished to be anyone else.  I’m pretty happy with who I am.  Now there are plenty of times I’ve wished I could have someone else (Yes, Johnny, I’m talking about you!) or done something fun (or someone fun).  Those are fun wishes!

What did you do on your last birthday?

On my last birthday, my husband gave me an iPad Pro so I spent the day oohing and ahhing and playing with it’s awesomeness. I adore anything techie and was so excited about it. Its still my favorite gift, and I’ve written my last 3 books on it!

What part of the writing process do you dread?

I dread writing the first few chapters of a book.  It doesn’t matter how much I think I know the story when I start, or how well I’ve thought through the characters, those early chapters are never easy.  Inevitably, they are rewritten a dozen times, changed, edited, deleted and revised.  Because no matter how well I thought I knew the characters and story, they always change once they hit the pages.

Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? If so, what do you do about it?

I don’t think I’ve ever suffered from writer’s block, per se.  I’ve hit burnout a time or two, though.  When I do, it’s like the words just aren’t there and every sentence is hard fought.  If I can, I take a break.  Just a day or so away from the keyboard to celebrate life and appreciate everything else always seems to respark that creative drive.  If I’m tight on a deadline, I take at least an hour and sometimes that’s enough to get me going full steam ahead.

Tell us about your latest release.

I’m so excited about my latest release!! CALL TO HONOR is the first book in my TEAM POSEIDON series.  These books are bigger, deeper, more intense than any I’ve ever written and I have so loved diving into the suspense and emotions.  As the blurb says,  “No man left behind” is inscribed in the DNA of every SEAL and Lieutenant Diego Torres is no exception. But with a team member killed—and the body missing— Diego’s honor is sorely tested. Now his career and reputation are on the line, and a traitor is hiding among them. Diego wants answers...and only one woman has them.

This story has the same heat level as my previous books, but it takes the emotions and the risks to a higher level.  I loved being able to explore that, and the various relationships between the SEAL team, the hero, Diego and his heroine Harper, and Harper and her adorable son, Nathan.  I’m so excited that this book sets the tone for the rest of the series, too, with CALL TO ENGAGE picking up the suspense in July.

Excerpt:

We meander back to the hostel in the wet sand, the surf to our left. The moon is full and bright, bouncing off the gentle waves that roll into the bay.

My first few months in Costa Rica were rich with the exhilaration of my new environment. I landed in the lap of a whole new life, just like that. After working all month in Pacifica without him, being with Diego again sends those early memories bobbing up to the surface. He’s got this sharp energy beneath the layers and layers that make up a man. Intimidation is what he inspires, followed closely by strange physical sensations that spell your undoing. He triggers an energy in me that could tear the hood off a car. And I’m sure as hell not on flakka.

He slides his arm around my waist like he can hear me. We walk a few steps before he stops and turns to face me.

“I wouldn’t hate it if you’d let me hold you.”

The waves crash endlessly behind us, a soaking wet heartbeat. I’m still strung up in his words when he closes the empty space between us.

“You’re on fire,” he tells me, hands making a ring behind my back so we’re suspended in some kind of stained glass embrace.

“Hey, thanks.”

“You sure know how to put yourself together, gringa.”

Blush.

“I’m not the only one.”

He sighs and I wait patiently. Indecision slows his expression, crystalizing in his delay.

Whatever it is goes away.

“Did you enjoy your time, you know, without me distracting you?” he asks.

“It was busy, but we got a lot done at the new school. I can’t complain.”

“I wish you would.” He pulls me in closer.

That one gets me. His slow kiss disappears everything around me before I’m even sure it’s happening. Lips softer than I remember, the light scrape of his chin on mine. A rugged feeling so welcome it can stay for dessert.

“You’re trouble,” he breathes.

“The best kind of it,” I reply.

“There’s nothing I can do about it, is there?”

“I doubt it.”

Bowing his head, he lowers his eyelids.

“I forgot what this is like,” he laughs tiredly, rubbing his cheek with his hand. “You still take me by surprise.” He tilts his head, considering me tenderly but wincing, like it hurts to admit it.

Watch and see my defenses lower to unprecedented depths.

I press against him, not sure whether I’m teasing him or me. His palm is warm on the back of my leg.

“How’d you get your skin so soft, anyway?” he whispers, stroking my thigh gently until it evolves into a grasp, the tips of his fingers pushing into my flesh.

“Magic.”

“It’s working.”

I laugh, breathless. “So what do you wanna do?”

“Right now?”

I nod.

He pulls me in by the bottom with both hands. “Get to know you all over again.”
