Blog Tour + #Giveaway: Iniquity by Melody Winter @MelodyWinter @XpressoTours

Iniquity
Melody Winter
(Ascent, #1)
Publication date: October 25th 2016
Genres: Fantasy, New Adult, Romance

Athena Harrow is about to turn twenty-one, but there will be no celebration. What is there to celebrate when the world is ruled by demons?

She hates the darkness the demons brought with them and longs for the light to return to the world—a world she only vaguely remembers. The people in her forest village blindly accept the life the demons forced upon them, even tolerating the yearly ascension ceremony where all the girls who have turned twenty-one are either sent away to serve the Master Demon or left in the village and forced to procreate.

But Paymon, the assigned village demon, selects a different role for Athena, a role that pits her against the village. While she adapts to her new life, Erebus, a younger, more powerful demon, arrives, and Athena must play a dangerous game with his emotions in return for information about the demon’s reign of darkness.

As Athena’s dreams of restoring the light begin to fade, her life with Erebus takes an unexpected turn, and this time it’s her life being put to the test.

Set in the forest around Buttercrambe in North Yorkshire, England, INIQUITY explores the frightening, darker side of romance and the uncontrolled emotions it can unleash.

An Interview with Melody Winter

What inspired you to write Iniquity?

All the natural disasters happening around the world. I was watching the news after another earthquake and I found myself thinking, what if this is a warning that something even bigger is going to happen? We seem to have more earthquakes, tsunami’s and volcanoes spewing ash these days then we ever did when I was younger.

When or at what age did you know you wanted to be a writer?

I was a late starter. It was after I’d read Breaking Dawn, the last book in the Twilight series. I hated the ending and immediately searched on-line to see if any other people had felt the same. That’s when I came across the Twilight community on Fanfiction, and that’s what made me want to write my own books

What is the earliest age you remember reading your first book?

I was around five years old. I had all the Beatrix Potter books and loved them so much, although it was probably the illustrations that caught my attention more. But I do remember trying to read them.

What genre of books do you enjoy reading?

All sorts really, but the main theme seems to be romance. I like any book centring around a romance story. It can be anything from historical, contemporary, fantasy, or even erotica.

What is your favorite book?

I think my favourite book will always be Twilight. (Not so much the rest of the series) I love the emotions it manages to stir in me whenever I read it, and of course, I credit it with being the book that started my writing career J

You know I think we all have a favorite author. Who is your favorite author and why?

I think Tiffany Reisz is an amazing author. The Siren, from her original sinners series showed me how a BDSM book can be written and the love still shine through. I really felt I understood how someone who could physically hurt you could still love you, and you love them. No other BDSM book has ever managed to do that for me.

If you could travel back in time here on earth to any place or time. Where would you go and why?

I’d love to travel back to the Medieval times in my home city of York. There is so much history in York from that era, and it would be fascinating to see how York was back then, although probably not very pleasant, so I’d only like to visit for a short time J

When writing a book do you find that writing comes easy for you or is it a difficult task?

When I’m in the zone it comes easily. But, like now, I’ve been editing for so long that I’m a little worried about whether I’ll easily slip back into writing again. I’m sure I will, but time will tell.

Do you have any little fuzzy friends? Like a dog or a cat? Or any pets?

No pets L

What is your "to die for", favorite food/foods to eat?

I love a home cooked roast lamb dinner, preferably cooked by someone else. My mother-in-law cooks the most amazing roast dinners.

Do you have any advice for anyone that would like to be an author?

Keep writing and don’t give up. It’s not the easiest hobby/career to pursue. You need to believe in yourself, your characters, and your story. Network, reach out to other authors on facebook, twitter and get talking with like-minded people.

Difficult to place in the world when she graduated, she pursued a career in teaching, but ended up working in finance. Melody is convinced the methodical times she spends working with numbers fuel her desire to drift into dream worlds and write about the illusory characters in her head.

When not dealing with football, rugby, and a whole plethora of ‘boy’ activities, she will be found scribbling notes for her stories, or preparing for another trip to the nearby beaches at Scarborough and Whitby. Book Blitz + #Giveaway: The Boyfriend Whisperer by Linda Budzinski @LindaBudz @XpressoTours

The Boyfriend Whisperer
Linda Budzinski
Published by: Swoon Romance
Publication date: November 15th 2016
Genres:
 Contemporary, Romance, Young Adult

As President and CEO of Boyfriend Whisperer Enterprises, Lexi Malloy is Grand View High School’s undercover Cupid. One problem: She’s stuck in the friend zone when it comes to her own crush, Chris Broder. She and Chris have been best friends since the third grade, and he doesn’t even seem to realize she’s is a member of the opposite sex.

When pretty and popular cheerleader Lindsay LaRouche hires Lexi to whisper Chris, she has to decide whether to place her commitment to her company—and Chris’s happiness—before herself.

EXCERPT:

Principal Cho calls my teammates out one by one at the pep rally. He announces my name last, and I dribble across the court, through a tunnel made up of the cheer squad as well as both the boys’ and girls’ teams, and stop at the top of the key to throw Chris an alley-oop.
He sails toward the basket, his muscles rippling as he reaches out, snatches the ball out of the air, transfers it from one hand to the other, and stuffs it through the rim. Magnificent.
I remember the precise moment I fell in love with Christian Broder. It was this past October when a bunch of us decided to play a pick-up game at the courts down at Claymore Park. It was a warm day, and Chris took off his shirt. I vaguely wondered when he’d developed pecs. I tried to defend against him on a drive to the basket, but it seemed he’d gained six inches on me overnight. He swerved around, up, and past me, and … wham. His first dunk shot.
It was perhaps the most beautiful move I’d ever seen on a basketball court. Or anywhere. Ever. I could barely breathe. Had to fake a cramp in my leg and take myself out of the game. Now, watching him soar through the air again, I have that same gut reaction. I struggle to pull myself together as he runs up and gives me a high-five.
“Nice toss, Malloy.”
“Nice tip in, Broder.”
He laughs. “Yeah, right. Tip in. I hear you.” He drapes his arm across my shoulder. “I have a great feeling about this weekend.”
I nod, unable to form words, and the rest of the pep rally swirls by in a whirlwind of pompoms and victory chants.

Excerpt + #Giveaway: The Ticket by Debra Coleman Jeter @DebColemanJeter @GoddessFish

The Ticket
by Debra Coleman Jeter
GENRE:  YA Suspense

BLURB:

The Ticket

She hoped winning the lottery would solve her problems.

Her problems have just begun....

It is 1975, an ordinary year for an ordinary Southern family. TRAY DUNAWAY, like thousands of other teenagers around the country, longs to be part of the popular set at school. Tray’s mother, EVELYN, lies in bed most days with a headache, and her bipolar tendency toward extreme highs or desperate lows veers more and more often toward depression. Tray’s grandmother GINNY, who lives with the family, still grieves the loss of her husband, Brook. She believes it’s time for her to move out, if she could afford to, and find a place of her own, maybe even a new romance. This doesn’t look likely, given the state of the family’s finances.

Then something extraordinary happens. A down-and-out friend of the family, PEE WEE JOHNSON, buys an extra lottery ticket. He gives it to Tray’s dad as a thank-you for driving Pee Wee to Hazard, Illinois, where he purchased the tickets. And what do you know?

When Johnson demands his cut, Tray’s dad refuses. As Evelyn’s illness spirals toward madness, Johnson turns threatening, and Tray makes some poor decisions, what initially seems like a stroke of good fortune suddenly triggers a disturbing chain of events.

EXCERPT:

A corner of my brain registers that PeeWee’s grammar isn’t usually so bad. Or is it? Maybe he’s posturing for the camera, too? Silence falls, and the cameras point once more at Jesse. “Is that true?”

Dad hesitates for just an instant before nodding.

The cameramen glance at each other. Then a tall man in a tee-shirt and jeans makes a brief motion with his forefinger. At this signal, they all move toward Pee Wee. Quickly. As if capturing an action sequence in a war zone. One of them asks Pee Wee, “Tell us—tell us everything.”

Pee Wee talks, his expression a little smug. I notice, as I have not noticed before, that he speaks with a strong southern twang. There’s no question now: we will all surely come across as a bunch of loony hicks. Longing to escape to my room, I instead remain frozen in place, listening to Pee Wee’s story. It has the ring of truth.

“See, I always buy the numbers from my mother’s birthday for myself,” he explains. “Usually my buddy Jay-bird drives me and him to Hazard, Illinois, to buy our tickets. But Jay-bird’s car was in the shop, so we asked Jesse—he’s Jay-bird’s brother-in-law—to drive us over. I don’t drive m’self. A lousy couple of tickets and they’ll take your license away, you know? Anyway, riding my bike keeps me fit. To make a long story short, ole Jesse said okay, he’d give us a lift. But when we git there, Jesse says he’ll just sit in the car. He don’t even want to go in and buy a ticket. Are you sure, I ask him, not believin’ my ears. He says he is, he don’t believe in throwin’ his money away on no lottery ticket. So to thank him an’ all, I bought him a ticket. But for Jesse’s ticket, I just changed one number on my mother’s birthday, making her a year younger as it were. So when I heard the winnin’ number announced, I knew right off it was the one I bought. So I called ole Jesse right away—he never would-a even knowed he
won if I hadn’t, not bein’ a lottery man hisself—and I told him the good news. I ain’t thinkin’ he believed me at first. But I just told him, like I’m a-telling all of you out there in television land … I only want a little share.”

Pee Wee pauses and looks imploringly from one cameraman to another. “It’s only fair,” he says. “Don’t you agree?”

Okay, I have to admit it does sound fair. Mama lets out a small sound, her mouth round. I’m not sure, but I think it is the word “no”—or maybe it’s “oh.” Her face is about to crumple into tears, and the cameras are all over her now. The cameramen are intent, but there is a hidden smile in their busyness. They are eating this up.

I move quickly to Mama’s side, taking her arm and pulling her out of the line of flashing cameras. “Excuse us, please,” I mutter. Then, with as much dignity as I can muster—not just for me, but for Mama too—I escort her from the room.

Book Blast + #Giveaway: Angel Boy by Annalisa Russo @RussoAuthor @GoddessFish

Angel Boy
by Annalisa Russo
GENRE: Historical Romance (20th Century)

BLURB:

Private Investigator Meg Cavelli wonders why her traitorous family has trotted out the fatted calf for Seth Truitt, the boy who left her flat eight years ago. Now he’s back, sexier than she remembers, and needs her help. How can Meg accept Seth’s no-strings-attached deal in return for bringing a deranged predator to justice, when their steamy attraction to each other might very well get in the way?

Army Air Corps pilot Seth Truitt needs help to erase his dark-stained past, but soon realizes helping Meg Cavelli solve a dogged criminal case in return for salvaging his military career might be more dangerous than flying P-26 fighters for USAAC. But since Seth has no intention of letting Meg go again, he’ll stop at nothing to keep her safe from the twisted, unnatural threat they dubbed “the monster” as kids.

As the mystery unfolds, joining their minds and hearts might be the only way to stay alive.

Excerpt:

Well, fan my brow. He was back.

Margaret Cavelli strode to the back door of her small house on Green Street and yanked the door open. Miraculously, she’d gotten out of Bellaluna before she ran smack dab into him. The moron hadn’t had the decency to call or write her in eight years and there he was. Just sashayed back all ginned up in his fancy uniform and thought that was A-Okay. Well, he had another think coming.

She slammed down the book on poisons on her tiny kitchen table, shrugged out of her woolen pea coat, and hung it on the hook next to the door. Luckily, she’d spotted Seth from her old bedroom window at Bellaluna when his taxi pulled up. She made sure he didn’t see her and then snuck down the old servants’ staircase to get to her Coupe while Gwen gave him the feed in the kitchen.

A free meal—and probably his old room back if she knew her father. All the hoo-ha for the prodigal son’s return? Uh-uh. He wouldn’t get squat from her. And if they tried to force her to be nice to him—she’d eighty-six that idea. He could take a powder—again—for all she cared. She wasn’t the forgiving type.

At least, not in this lifetime.

She grabbed the book of poisons and climbed the stairs to her home office and her murder board.

Start the Stripped Series Today: http://www.skyewarren.com/books/

EXCERPT:

His growl makes the hair on my neck stand up.
“You’re not going anywhere.” He flicks the bathroom light on, revealing the gruesome spray of blood across his face. I cry out at the gash over his eye, the long ridge of dried blood along his chest. He looks like a gladiator after a long-drawn-out battle in the arena.
And he didn’t just manage to escape. He must have killed those men. That’s the only way he could have managed to leave that parking lot. All those lives on my head.
More pain. More death. No matter how fast I run, I can’t seem to escape it.
“I don’t understand,” I whisper. “Why me?”
In the world he comes from there are a hundred beautiful women. Women who know how to wear pretty dresses and put on makeup. Women who know how to please a man as rough as Luca. Candace used to live in Harmony Hills with me. She was the first person to ever get out alive. And she turned herself into a siren, someone who could command men with a single flick of her perfectly manicured nail. She did it to prove that she could. And I…well, I can’t. I haven’t even been able to cut my long hair.
He steps close, and I’m suddenly more aware of my naked tummy, my breasts covered only by a single layer of fabric. My chest rises and falls with heavy, panicked breaths.
“You captured me, little bird.” He trails a blunt finger down my temple, lifting a long blonde lock. It looks pale and silky against his scarred fingertip. “I follow you for the same reason you run.”
