EXCERPT:

Commotion with the wolves pulled me from my thoughts. The poop shoveler was gone, and something was transpiring on the other side of the tents to my left where I couldn’t see. The wolves became extremely aggressive, growling as each wolf saw what was coming around the bend of tents. His or her posture would change to attack mode, accompanied by snarling and snapping teeth. I was so scared to see what had them this upset that I backed away from the front of my cage, crab-crawling to the rear corner.

At first, all I saw was the backs of four guards coming around the bend, aiming guns at someone or something that made them nervous, a reaction I had yet to see from the cocky pros. The men’s backs blocked my view of what six more guards were doing, but every confinement they passed had a wolf viciously attacking the front of their cage.

Then I saw a sight that brought terror to my soul.

Romy was unconscious, being dragged by two loops or nooses around his hind legs, two nooses around his front legs, and two around his neck. Romy’s tongue hung out the side of his mouth, possibly from the ropes tightening due to pressure, and his beautiful gray fur was matted in blood. His injuries looked worse than the bullet wound. Two more gun-toting men followed, ready to shoot if Romy stirred. Six guards had removed the wolf next to me. Twelve delivered Romy.

I got up and ran to the front corner of my cage and screamed, “What did you do to him?” I rattled my fencing with my enraged hands, not caring that I was breaking my silence.

Romy looked awful; he looked… dead. This was what they’d reinforced the cage for?

“Is he alive?” I shrieked in horror.

No one would take their eyes from their captive to answer me. Men opened the chain-link door to the empty cage next to mine and crudely dragged Romy inside. The other wolves gave voice to their feelings. Gunmen circled the cage as if the half-dead wolf before them had another fight in him. I’d never seen Romy more than irritated, but with how these men were behaving, I wasn’t sure I ever wanted to.

Nooses were released, men ran out, and the gate slammed shut, locks nervously secured. That was when I noticed how each man had bandages somewhere on his body. Romy must had done a real number on them all.

“He’s alive,” one guard practically spat at me, he was so angry, “but maybe this time, he’ll think twice before attacking us.”

A guard high-fived him. “Showed him.”

Another guard, looking braver now that Romy was locked up, sneered. “Damn Lycan.” His voice rose to be heard over the howling wolves. “Needed to learn his damn place.”

Lycan? I thought back to the research Romy and I did on my computer. The hunters from the woods had known exactly what they were hunting and capturing.

A guard turned to the other wolves, yelling with frustration, “Shut up!”

As he and the other horrid men retreated into the tent in front of me, most of the outside lights were turned off, leaving us in the dark. Only the moon gave us light. I dropped to my knees, stretching my arm through my chain-link fencing to my bloody wolf. I didn’t want to give any details away, but these men knew I was with him, so I took a chance and called out to him as quietly as possible. “Romy?”

Instantly, it went quiet. Every wolf I could see now stood in silence, watching me.
For a moment, I held still, arm extended, turning to look at all the wolf eyes on me—on Romy and me. But the need to feel my wolf overpowered my questions about the other wolves’ behavior, and once again, I reached for Romy.

It was pointless. The aisle in between us meant his cage was two inches from the tips of my fingers. I grunted as I forced my arm to accomplish something it couldn’t. Unraveling, I cried out, “Romy, I’m here. Please, wake up.” I didn’t care anymore if someone heard me use his name.

Romy didn’t move.

“I need to know you’re alive, Romy.” Tears choked me before I even realized I was crying. The female wolf whimpered in her cage behind me. I begged, “Please, Sebastian.”

Wolves paced their cages with their tails tucked and shoulders tensed, but when Romy’s paw twitched, we all froze, intently watching for more. When Romy did nothing, I whispered, “I’m here,” with my battered arm stretching again. Heart-wrenching desperation came out in every word I spoke. “I need to know you’re going to make it! Please, Sebastian, just one sign you’re going to live through the night…Pleassssseeeee—”

His eyes opened. They were exhausted but open.

My body collapsed into the fencing in utter relief. My exasperated lungs were finally getting the oxygen fear had denied them. “Thank you, oh, thank you, Sebastian. You can rest now. Heal, heal.”

Romy’s eyes closed.

I whispered, “I love you.”

The wolves, softly and mournfully, howled into the night.

My Review:

My Wolf and Me is about a little girl about five years old name Marlena. Marlena loves playing in the woods behind her house. She likes to make up her own stories when she is playing. One day while she is out playing in her fantasy world two wolves come to play with Marlena in her make believe castle. Marlena makes the wolves the guards of her castle. The wolves are real and they play along with Marlena in her pretend world.

Then one day her two wolves don’t show for duty. Marlena is so mad that she fires them for not showing up. But when they do finally report for duty they have a baby wolf with them. Marlena is so happy to see them and their baby that she forgets all about firing them. Marlena and the baby wolf roam the woods so much that Marlena decides that she is going to name the Romy.

Romy and Marlena are in their little cave resting one when Mother Wolf shows up without Father Wolf and she is injured. She shifts into a human and tells Romy that is Father is gone. She tells Marlena everything she needs to know to help Romy when he is older and he sifts for the first time so she can help him.

Marlena is all that Romy has now so she takes him home with her and he becomes a part of her family. Marlena’s Mother and Father take in Romy and helps Marlena to care for him. They soon see the bond between the two and how Romy watches over their little girl and fall in love with Romy themselves.

I honestly and truly loved reading My Wolf and Me. I loved following along with Marlena and Romy on all of their adventures from the time they met until they were captured. I read My Wolf and Me in one day. Once I started reading I couldn’t put it down. It was definitely unlike any book I have ever had the pleasure of reading. I started reading it after we went to bed. Some of things that Marlena and Romy did had me literally rolling and laughing. My husband was asleep so I was trying so hard not to make any noise and disturb him. It was all I could do to laugh and not making any sound. I also cried with Marlena and Romy on occasion as well. There were times that would just rip your heart right out.

My Wolf and Me will hit you right in the old heart making you feel loved and warm all over. You will be thinking of My Wolf and Me long after you have read the last word wanting to go with Marlena and Romy on more of their adventures. My Wolf and Me is definitely one book that I would recommend to anyone who loves a good book. It will definitely leave you wanting more. I can’t wait for the next book. I hope there is more to come.

Excerpt:

As the fog in my brain lifted and I climbed towards consciousness, it was as if I could feel every cell in my body, and they were all throbbing. There wasn’t any real pain; it was more like every nerve ending in my body was on high alert. I tried lifting my eyelids and was surprised to find they were working properly. The room was dim, yet I could see everything clearly—not that there was much to see other than a darkly painted ceiling. When I turned my head, a sharp pain stabbed through my brain.
“Ouch,” I said, my voice coming out in a loud croak.
“You’re awake,” a familiar voice said. Pinky’s face hovered over mine. “Welcome back, darling girl.”
His voice was breathy as if he were whispering, yet it was so loud I couldn’t help but wince. Pain and worry etched his face, and he looked tired in a way I’d never seen before.
“What happened? Where am I?” My voice sounded dry, cracked, and a little panicky. I couldn’t help it. Fear was starting to bubble up inside my stomach, churning it. I felt so odd. So much of my body hurt, and then there was the pain that wasn’t pain, but more of an odd sensation. Where was I and why was Pinky staring down at me as if I’d just come back from the dead?
“Shh, it’s okay,” Pinky said, trying to soothe me.
He laid his hand on my arm, but it hurt and I flinched away. “Ouch,” I said, tears filling my voice. “Pinky, what’s going on? Why does it hurt?”
“Shh, don’t talk. I need to get you some tea to soothe your throat. Lie there and rest.”
Too weak to argue, I did as he bade, closing my eyes as I waited. I didn’t drift back off to sleep, though. I was painfully aware of Pinky moving around the room. It was as if every sound was amplified, and every shift in the air blew across my skin. From the sounds, I’d guessed there was a teapot and crystal warming plate in the room. The scent of herbs and something else I couldn’t name burst into the room as he slid the lids off glass containers. The odor grew stronger before softening as he combined them and poured hot water over the mixture.
Within a few minutes, Pinky was back by my side, though he had never actually left the room.
“Are you ready to try to sit up?” he asked, placing a mug on a table near my head.
“I think so,” I said, opening my eyes and gazing up at his concerned face. I wasn’t completely sure I was telling the truth, but curiosity was gnawing at me. I wanted to know what had happened, but I knew Pinky wouldn’t tell me anything unless he thought I was doing better. Though better than what, I had no idea.
Several minutes later, I was cursing my curiosity and wishing I’d just told Pinky I wasn’t ready to sit up yet. But I hadn’t, and I was sitting up. If you could call propped against six pillows that forced me into a sitting position ‘sitting up’. I wasn’t even sure propped was the correct word because the moment Pinky let go of me after putting the last pillow into place, I’d collapsed back onto them, heaving from the pain and effort of getting into the position. Even with Pinky’s help, it had been excruciating and exhausting.
“Here, this will help,” Pinky said, holding the mug of warm liquid to my lips.
I sipped it, the strong flavor exploding in my mouth. “What is that?” I asked after swallowing several mouthfuls.
“An herbal tea from River’s garden. Chamomile, I think. There’s some medicine to help your pain mixed in,” he answered, setting the empty mug down. “Are you feeling any better?”
The medicine must be why it tasted so strong, but I was feeling a little better. “My throat doesn’t hurt as much.”
He smiled. “Good.”
“Pinky, what happened? How did I get sick? What’s wrong with me?” As I asked the questions, I watched my father’s face grow serious, dread filling his eyes.
“I’m not sure right now is the best time. I think you need more rest.”
“No,” I said. It took every bit of energy I had, but I pushed his hand away as he tried to pull the blanket up around me. “I don’t want to rest. Please, what happened? Why does everything hurt? Why are you the one taking care of me? Where’s River and Fiona?”
With every question, my voice got more and more shrill. As I asked about my sisters, I realized just how strange, how wrong, it was for them not to be in the room. Were they sick too? Had something happened to them?
“Shh, Anya, calm down, baby. Fiona and River are okay,” Pinky crooned as he gripped my hands between his. I realized I had been screaming out the thoughts in my head and that I was sobbing. “If you’ll drink another mug of tea, I’ll tell you, okay?”
I nodded, the motion making my head ache. “Okay,” I said, trying to stop crying now that I realized I was doing it.
Pinky prepared another mug of tea, and we sat in silence as I drank it. The drink soothed me, sending a warming calm throughout my body. I suspected Pinky had put some sort of sedative in it that would knock me out soon, but I wasn’t about to be deterred.
I held the mug out. “It’s all gone. Now tell me what’s wrong with me. I don’t want to wake up again feeling so confused and scared.”
The moment I spoke the words, I could see the determination to keep me in the dark fade from Pinky’s demeanor. “Okay. I suppose knowing will be better than the fear of not knowing. What do you remember?”
I shook my head, grateful that the last cup of tea had taken away the stabbing pain behind my eyes. “I don’t know. What do you mean?”
“Before you woke up here, what is the very last thing you remember doing?”
I thought hard, trying to focus. An image of Farrah and River formed in my mind. They were laughing. “I was at the market with Farrah and River. We were having lunch.”
“You don’t remember anything else? Do you know what you did after you left the market?”
I tried to think. I remembered telling River goodbye and walking towards the bridge with Farrah, but as we neared the bridge, everything got fuzzy, and then it was black. I couldn’t remember. As I concentrated, another sharp throbbing started behind my left eye. I rubbed at my temple.
“I don’t know, Pinky. I can’t remember.” My voice was nearing hysteria.
“Shh, it’s okay,” Pinky said, sitting on the edge of the bed and pulling me into his arms. “I’m going to tell you what happened, but I need you to promise to try to stay calm. You are safe and loved, and no matter what, you will be okay. Promise to remember that?”
I nestled my head against his chest, much as I did when I was a child. The comfort of his arms was accompanied by the feeling of dozens of tiny bees stinging my skin at every point where we touched, but I ignored it. A sense of dread was slipping over me, but I needed to know. “I promise.”
As my adoptive father cradled me in his arms and rocked me like a baby, my entire world was pulled out from under my feet. He told me Farrah and I had been attacked, and that Farrah was fine, but I’d been kidnapped. He didn’t have any other details except that Jarrett and Fiona tried to get me back, but the kidnapper, some woman named Cora, had cut my throat. I’d been dying and the only chance they’d had to save me was to infect me with the N-V virus.

The only way to save my life had been to change it forever. To change me forever. I was now a vampire.

Defending Hayden Teaser 9

EXCERPT:

Guilt plagued me and I felt sick. Getting out of bed, I paced the room, running my hands angrily through my hair. I didn’t want to hurt Hayden. Keeping her away would protect her from my life. She was bound to leave me anyway. I’d fuck up somehow and it would ruin her. What the hell was I talking about? I’d already fucked her up.
“Derek?” Her voice was like honey, silky and sweet. I’d imagined what it would be like to hear that voice screaming my name as I fucked her over and over. Last night had been the best night of my life, but it had scared the shit out of me. I couldn’t shake it. “Derek, are you okay?” she asked. Stopping midstep, I turned to face her, and her eyes widenened when she got a glimpse of my face. I could only imagine what she saw. So many emotions battled inside me. She held the blanket to her chest, and her lips trembled. “Please tell me this wasn’t just a game to you,” she whispered.
Swallowing hard, I sat down on the edge of the bed and reached for her. She recoiled from my touch. “None of this was a game, Hayden. Last night was fucking amazing.”
Her eyes glistened, but her jaw was firm. “Then why are you looking at me like that? Like you regret what we did.”
I wanted to touch her, but last night had been my only chance. She’d never let me close to her again. “I don’t regret it, but eventually you will. You’re not the only one who’s lost someone they cared about. I can’t go through it again. It’s best to stop this before it goes any further.”
“Any further?” she scoffed. She waved her arm around the room, her anger so thick I could cut it with a knife. “If you didn’t want it to go any further, then why did you bring me here? Why would you do that to me?”
“Because I care about you,” I said, knowing it made no sense to her.
“Then why are you pushing me away?” she cried.
Standing, I got up and walked over to the window. “You wouldn’t understand.”

Lena has two months and few options. She needs to find a husband, fast before she’s forced into a situation she can’t live with.

Authors Note:

While my other books are mostly erotic romance, this one is not. Although, yes, there are a few sex scenes and yes there is coarse language. It is geared toward a mature audience. Her Choice is the first in a Trilogy called Family Ties. Each book is a complete novel, focusing on a different couple who will each have their own HEA or HFN. The main characters will make appearances in the other books. However, there is a story line that traverses all three books and comes to its own conclusion in Book 3. For that reason, these books will be best if read in order. I hope you enjoy my new venture.

EXCERPT:

Gingerly and as graceful as possible in the back of a limo while wearing running gear and stinking like the three miles she’d run, Lena crossed the short space and settled next to Gage. His sheer size and presence overwhelmed her. She quivered in excitement.
She tried to keep as much distance between them as she could. She didn’t want to mess up his uniform. Unfortunately, the bench seat was smaller than the other one and he took up lots of space. No matter how she moved, some part of her left side rubbed against him. And wow, did he smell so much better than her. Whatever scent he wore, she could spend the next hour with her nose wedged into the center of his chest or the curve of his neck. Which only edged the heat surrounding her up higher by a notch, or ten.
Her phone, tucked into her back pocket, rang out a melody indicating she’d just received a text message.
“Ignore it,” Gage murmured. He faced her and stretched one muscular arm along the top of the seat. He twined his fingers through her damp hair.
The play of his fingers created a tingle under her flesh. He was actually making her job easier by making the first move. She would start there. She could do this. She only needed it to be short lived anyway. She didn’t plan to keep him.
With time not on her side, she’d work with what she had. She needed a husband before her father forced her into a marriage she didn’t want. Gage Barrett was the best choice available for the position. Moreover, judging by the expression on his face, the flaring of his nostrils, and the way he kept shifting to get comfortable, the attraction was mutual. But she didn’t want to appear too easy. “I’m not sure this is appropriate.”
“Is the lady of the house lowering herself to play with the driver?”
She winced. “I don’t consider you the hired help, Gage.”
“That’s exactly what I am, Princess.”
She scowled. “I’ve asked you not to call me that.”
He narrowed his eyes, but not before she gasped at the intensity of the interest burning there. “Prove I’m not the just the hired help,” he whispered into the silent interior of the car.
Lena hadn’t realized just how well the car blocked all exterior noise from entering the sanctum of the lush leather and carpeting. A hundred yards away, down the curving driveway, cars zipped by on the street. Each week a landscaping crew mowed the lawn and weeded the gardens, but today wasn’t that day. No staff, no expected deliveries, nobody to question her motives. Other than herself.
He sat there, staring at her. His eyes dark, hungry orbs. He sucked in a breath. So did she, to capture that clean scent of his again. It was like an aphrodisiac. She watched him watching her, as each waited for the other to initiate contact. Her gaze dropped to his lips. His kissable lips. There was a hardness to his jaw, his whole face, but his lips looked soft. Wanting. Tasty.
Lena canted forward, closing the distance between them. He was the one to beckon her over, but he hadn’t attempted to bridge the gap.
She licked her lips and had the satisfaction of seeing his gaze dart to her mouth. She ran her tongue over them again, just to tease. To tempt. His breath fluttered over her eyes, down the curve of her nose, she was that close to him now. She lifted her lashes, and caught him staring at her. She saw her reflection in his pupils.
Shutting her eyes, she summoned her courage and removed the last remaining space between them. She pressed her lips to his.

Author Bio:
Shoes are my addiction, but books are my passion. I grew up with a love for reading. I read constantly. Probably too much some days. I read many genres of romance, but prefer to write sexy stories. I try to add some humor, and certainly my stories come with a side of those sinful pleasures your mom never told you about. Oh, and always a happily ever after.

I juggle a full time job and a family. Not always successfully. Clean house? Who needs one? And what's wrong with cereal for dinner? I live in Ontario, Canada with my wonderfully supportive husband, three awesome kids who are growing up way too fast, and Rocky the bearded dragon.

Plenty of ideas are rolling around in my head all the time. So I can't wait to write that next story.

Patty is prepared to face the consequences and announce her relationship at her first public fundraiser with Carter. But when a strange woman makes a move on him, and she finds them in what appears to be a mutual, passionate kiss, Patty can’t believe she’s been so foolish. She should’ve known better than to trust a man.

Carter’s been set up, but he can’t get anyone to believe him…

Floundering under the stress of losing Patty, the PTSD nightmares start in again, leaving Carter no choice but to turn to the only thing that will numb the pain. Alcohol—and lots of it. His family quickly intervenes and takes him to the hospital to kick-start his road to recovery. Carter knows burying the pain isn’t the answer. He has to heal…and save his relationship with Patty.

Outside forces work to keep Patty and Carter apart…

Suspicious of her mother’s recent actions, Patty pushes her to come clean about the setup at the fundraiser. Her jealous ex, Ben, has been blackmailing her mother into helping him ruin her relationship with Carter, and it doesn’t stop at that. Ben shows up at the lake house unwilling to accept no for an answer.

Carter needs to piece his broken life back together, but he’s running out of time…

With so many who want to destroy their happiness, he has to be strong enough to save Patty from an empty, loveless future—or he’ll be nothing more than the broken soldier she used to know.

Author Bio:
Alison Mello is a wife and stay at home mom to a wonderful little boy. She lives with her amazing family in Massachusetts. She loves playing soccer, basketball and football with her son.
After having her son, Alison started reading again and fell in love with Contemporary Romance. Reading made her happy and gave her something to do when she had downtime. As she started to read more, she started to noticed things she really enjoyed in a book and things she didn’t. She began to have ideas for writing one of her own. One day she literally woke up and started writing. She realized that if there was ever a time for her to write, it was now. She had a part time job to give her something to do. The hours at work were slow and she was bored with what she was doing, so while her son was off enjoying his friends over summer vacation she got started.
Alison finished the first book in two weeks and decided that she really enjoyed writing, so she kept going. She already had ideas in mind for books two and three, so she kept writing. That is how the Learning to Love Series was born. Somewhere along the line, one of my Beta readers convinced me that Michael, a character from Finding Love, needed his own story. That is when Alison added the fourth and final book. Alison hopes you enjoy her books as much as she enjoyed writing them.
She’s so glad she started this writing journey and hopes you will stay with her for the ride. Chasing Dreams is scheduled to release in April and the first two books of the Love Conquers Life series will be out this summer!
