Until Lucian is truly possessed.
A powerful demon takes hold, twisting his body into something unnatural, horrific, wrong—and no priest, no con, no desperate lie can fix it. With time running out and Lucian slipping further away, Colton has no choice but to learn real magic, break every rule, and attempt the impossible.
Because if he fails, Lucian won’t just be lost. He’ll be something else entirely.
Interview with E.L. Deards
What is your favorite part of the book?
The characters, easily. I love watching them interact, hearing their voices, and just letting them play off each other. The banter between Lucian and Colton was so much fun to write; they have such a genuinely healthy relationship, apart from the whole demon possession thing. I never got tired of them.
Are your characters based off real people or did they all come entirely from your imagination?
Entirely from my imagination. My mom insists Lucian is based on my husband, but I don’t think he is nearly as eloquent or as dramatic. I am sure there are some influences from media I love, but no one is a carbon copy of anyone real.
Of all the characters you have created, which is your favorite and why?
It is probably Lucian. He is so over the top and ridiculous, but he is also gentle, intelligent, and kind. I worked hard to balance that combination, the melodrama with genuine heart, because I wanted the contrast to feel sharp when the possession happens.
What character in your book are you least likely to get along with?
Honestly, I like them all. But Lucian might only be fun in small doses. He is charming, but I suspect he would be exhausting if you were stuck on a multi-day trip together.
What would the main character in your book have to say about you?
Colton probably would not be that impressed with me after everything I put him through. Not kind words might be expressed, and our poor author might be fragile. On the other hand, I did introduce him to a total hottie, so maybe he would forgive me. I think he would find me a bit too princessy for his taste; Lucian is also princessy but he has the charisma and hunk factor to back it up.
Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book?
I would love to keep building on The Lavender Blade world. I do not think we have seen the last of my two goofballs, there is more trouble for them to get into, and I am not ready to let them go just yet.
