In the beginning The Alpha created the heavens and the earth. This story takes place before that.

Interview with JC Worthington & R.G. Ryan

What is your favorite part of the book?

JC Worthington: So many fun parts of the book it’s hard to pick one. I do love the opening how the Alpha is introduced to the reader. The expression of the personality of the Alpha feels so good and right to me. I also enjoy the post death journey of Abel. It is the first real step into my original compelling of this adventure.

RG Ryan: I think it would have to be the insight into the relationship between Michael, Gabriel and Son of the Dawn (Lucifer). They were close once. Son of the Dawn’s rebellion didn’t just impact The Alpha (God), it broke their hearts as well. It was also fun to create the world before Adam’s fall—life in Eden, Adam and Eve’s relationship with the animals, etc.

Does your book have a lesson? Moral?

JC Worthington: My hope is that this is a new and eye-opening lens to familiar story. RG Ryan and I wrestle with a number of tough Biblical questions in story form. I think my favorite is tension created while evil is being birthed and the weight of how love requires freedom of choice.

RG Ryan: The issue of why God allowed evil is fairly prominent as well. It wasn’t that he allowed evil. He endowed his creation with free will, and as long as there is a choice to be made, evil will always be a possibility.

Are your characters based off real people or did they all come entirely from your imagination?

JC Worthington: Both. There are a number of the angels who are based off of real people in my life and several others who purely invented for the role.

RG Ryan: We explored a lot of historical records—some Biblical, some extra-biblical—in order to come up with the names of the five additional archangels as well as Apollyon’s (Satan’s) chief princes.

Of all the characters you have created, which is your favorite and why?

JC Worthington: It’s hard to beat Schindaug and his comic relief.

RG Ryan: Schindaug is a fantastic character, but for me it’s Rok. He doesn’t say much, but let’s his sword speak or him.

What character in your book are you least likely to get along with?

JC Worthington: I suspect Apollyon (Satan), although I respect his cleverness and persuasiveness. It’s just in the wrong direction.

RG Ryan: Well, yeah, obviously it’s Apollyon. He’s evil personified.

What would the main character in your book have to say about you?

JC/RG: I hope the Alpha would say that I have represented Him well and honored Him in the depiction.

Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book?

JC Worthington: This is the first book in the series of the RIP City Chronicles. This book is actually the prequel needed to establish the characters who tell the heart of the story.

RG Ryan: As JC mentioned, this is book one. Next comes, “Trouble on Earth: Book One,” followed by, “Trouble on Earth: Book Two.” After that will be “Trouble in Hell,” and then, “The End of Trouble.”
