Hattie and Gracie have received an invitation to take part in a local bake-off. They are experiencing a mix of excitement and anxiety as they compete in the event until the host, Paul, suddenly collapses in the midst of the competition and is taken to the hospital.

Was Paul's collapse merely a coincidence, or was there something more malevolent at play? Could it have been an act of revenge? Or perhaps Paul had information he intended to disclose, but someone intervened? These questions kept the narrative engaging right up to the conclusion.

However, there is no need for concern, as Hattie, Bo, and her three crime-solving companions—Moose, her Chow Chow; Mini Pearl, the spirited Yorkie; and Cecil, her crime-attracting British Shorthair—are on the case, diligently collecting all the evidence.

Some of the bake-off contestants quickly became suspects, raising significant alarm for Hattie, who found it difficult to trust them completely. She was wary of certain inconsistencies in their stories that did not quite align.
