What if the Future of Faith Depended on a Song?

DelivRus, a world-famous Christian rock band, confronts its darkest threat—from the world outside, and from the pride within.

It’s 2041, and a single world government is striving to strip nations of sovereignty and faith. But the music of DelivRus has been a bulwark against the global attack on faith. That has made the band and its leaders a target for destruction.

Tarnished drummer Charley Austin, 21, and untested songwriter Mia Johansen have been called to reunite the famous band for a high-stakes comeback tour that could ignite widespread spiritual revival—or end in catastrophe.

But as they prepare, supernatural forces infect Charley and Mia with pride, turning ambition into arrogance, loyalty into rivalry, and every creative difference into a potential fracture.

What begins as personal tension threatens to destroy DelivRus on the inside, even as external forces are being directed to end the band’s existence in a two-pronged attack of destruction.

With political intrigue and spiritual warfare raging in the shadows, the stage becomes the ultimate battleground—not just for a fractured world, but for the souls of Charley and Mia as faith and pride collide in heart-pounding suspense.

Interview with Charles Besondy

Could you tell us about any research trips you took for this story? Which places did you visit, and what made them essential to your writing?

For Spotlight, my schedule and budget didn’t permit travel to the two main locations in the book: Washington, D.C., and the Nashville metro area. For my purposes, I was able to virtually tour the areas online. The third location, on the Washington coast, is fictional, but having grown up in the Pacific Northwest, I am familiar with small coastal towns.

What's the strangest thing you've ever had to research online for your book?

For Spotlight, I was appalled and saddened by the research I did about child grooming by online predators.

What research (history, mythology, science) goes into your world-building?

My novels take place in a contemporary world, therefore I just look out the window. The last three, including Spotlight, take place in the near future, which gives me the freedom to imagine what could be 20 years from now. Each of my books refers to scripture when appropriate, therefore the Bible is always close at hand when I write.

The antagonists in my books “work” on earth, but often retreat to another dimension, which I call Sheolus. I didn’t pattern Sheol on anything I’ve studied or read. Pure imagination.

Have any of the people you've known, past or present, left a lasting impression on your writing journey? If so, we'd love to hear about a memorable experience that stands out to you.

My wife. When I read an early draft of a chapter to her, and it brings her to tears, I know I’m headed in the right direction.

Do you write in the same genre all the time?

I’m called to write within the Christian fiction genre. I consider my work to be Christian fiction “with an edge.” Most of my titles are nail-biting thrillers. All for Clay is contemporary women’s fiction, and Painting for a Stranger is a Christian allegory.

If so, have you ever consider writing in another one?

No. As I said earlier, I feel called to write what I’m currently writing.

Which character, supernatural or human, do you enjoy writing the most and why?

I’m going to dance on both sides of this question. I love digging deep into my characters, revealing flaws and fears. I love exposing the unearned blessing of grace as it heals and transforms. Having said that, I admit to having a lot of fun with my antagonists, who are dark angels with supernatural powers (but they don’t look like angels).
