Excerpt:
V A N I S H
Those words are hiding in the rain
even vanishing, the memories remain
those words are hiding in the light
even vanishing, I hope you are all right
Don't you need someone to take you by the hand?
don't you need someone to help you understand?
don't you need someone to stay until the end?
LIGHT AND RAIN NEVER HAPPEN IN VAIN.
Interview with INTENSIA
How did publishing your first book change your process of writing?
It actually did not, because my bigger picture was always about inviting music lovers into a special, poetic, unfolding journey for cinematic pop songs. One that begins with lyric excerpts and melodies in the becoming.
I would say it was more a change of perspective than of the writing itself, because I had to choose which fragments could express something meaningful and offer a glimpse of the adventure yet to come without overexplaining.
What was an early experience where you learned that language had power?
When I was a child, I truly believed that the blue-colored ice cream flavor called “Smurfs” was made from those little creatures. So, every time I saw it, I cried as loud as I could. I guess I might have been the only sad kid at the gelateria.
What one thing would you give up to become a better writer?
I had to give up people who, sadly, could not understand my vocation, vision, choices, or development. It might sound radical, but energy and peace of mind matter. It is still a lot of work and effort, even if you might already have many things figured out. Time and consistency are essential. A supportive and understanding environment is crucial, because in the end, art is also a matter and form of clarity.
Tell us a little about yourself? Perhaps something not many people know?
I believe there is no need to use harsh language or exaggerated metaphors in writing. On the contrary, the ability to craft meaningful and impactful pieces within a rich yet clean vocabulary is a form of respect and an honorable responsibility toward those engaging with art.
If you had to do something differently as a child or teenager to become a better writer as an adult, what would you do?
This might sound a bit fatalistic, but you never know if changing something would have led to a completely different situation. To be who you are right now, things must have happened exactly this way. Maybe I would not even be here with you today if a few details had been different. To me, it is not about regret, but about doing our best with what we have and what we might be able to control. It is about honoring the path, sharing emotions, and celebrating the experience. That is also why I chose to introduce myself by publishing a book of lyric excerpts from my poetic pop songs in progress.
What is the biggest surprise that you experienced after becoming a writer?
I have spent a lot of time preparing and skilling myself, both artistically and strategically. And yet, it is still a little scary to pursue, to put oneself out there, and to stay consistent, especially when it always seems to require more energy than planned. I truly and fully admire every single entrepreneur for continuing to build and pursue their goals. That kind of courage, passion, and stamina deserves more recognition in general.
Could you tell us a bit about your most recent book and why it is a must-read?
My most recent work is called Words to Think. Or to Sing. It is a collection of lyric excerpts from my poetic pop songs in progress. I curated it with the intention of inviting music lovers, passionate readers, thoughtful souls, and curious minds to a shared journey into sonorous artistry in the making. Being part of a developing and unfolding creative adventure connects more naturally and profoundly than any behind-the-scenes, throwback, or possibly viral content could offer. I will share the experience further on Substack, one fragment at a time, at a deliberate and soulful pace. This way, the lines can linger a little longer, and the words have the chance to resonate more deeply, doing what they are meant for: becoming emotional companions for life.
