Interview with Satya V. Nauth

How did publishing your first book change your process of writing?

I began writing in larger pockets of time, with a clear schedule and deliberate intent. I discovered that while the writing flowed, the editing process was truly transformative. Each round of edits revealed there was always more in me, and the creativity just kept unfolding.

What was an early experience where you learned that language had power?

When I was a child, I placed second in an essay-writing competition. That moment gave me the confidence to keep writing — I started keeping a diary and filled it at every opportunity. It was during a difficult time in my life, and writing became a form of therapy. It was cleansing, a release, and a way to process emotions I couldn’t always express out loud.

What one thing would you give up to become a better writer?

I would sacrifice sleep, even though it’s precious to me. If it meant growing as a writer, I’d be willing to give up the comfort of rest to put in the time and dedication needed.

Tell us a little about yourself — perhaps something not many people know?

I grew up in the only English-speaking country in South America: Guyana. As a teenager, I was an avid reader — I’d even sneak under the covers with a torchlight and read into the early hours of the morning. That love of books never left me. Today, I still read about one to two books a month. Another little-known fact: I begin every morning by reciting affirmations, a daily ritual I’ve practiced joyfully for over 15 years.

If you had to do something differently as a child or teenager to become a better writer as an adult, what would you do?

As a child, I used to read the dictionary to learn new words, then try them out in conversation. My friends and relatives often gave me odd looks, but I loved experimenting with language. Looking back, I wish I hadn’t cared at all about being judged. If I could change anything, I would have leaned even harder into my curiosity and love for words without fear of standing out.

What is the biggest surprise that you experienced after becoming a writer?

I discovered that I have supporters in unexpected places! I’ve been overwhelmed by the positive feedback and encouragement, not just from people close to me but also from those I’ve recently met — people who believe deeply in the message of my book. That kind of support has been one of the most humbling and uplifting surprises of this journey.

Could you tell us a bit about your most recent book and why it is a must-read?

Mom, Take Center Stage is my debut book, written for moms who are tired of living in the background of their own lives. So many women give their all to everyone else but forget themselves in the process. This book is a reminder — and an invitation — for moms to stop shrinking, stop shelving their dreams, and finally step boldly into the spotlight of their own lives.

It’s a must-read because it speaks to a universal truth: when mothers thrive, families and communities thrive too. My goal is to give moms both the inspiration and the practical encouragement to reclaim their sense of self-worth, pursue the goals they’ve put aside, and live unapologetically. It’s not just about motherhood — it’s about womanhood, identity, and the courage to say: This is my time. Time to take center stage.
