Excerpt:
As she helped me reveal the code that I had unknowingly written into my subconscious human operating system, I started to understand the separation between my conscious desires and the relationships that I was attracting in my life. The habits that kept me safe, disempowered, and limited were the not-love subconscious beliefs that were controlling my conscious mind. My conscious mind desired happiness and peace, but my subconscious mind was filled with self-beliefs that conflicted with what I said I wanted. How could I feel peace when my subconscious mind believed that I constantly had to prove that I was enough for myself and those that loved me? My conscious mind said I wanted to speak my truth and to be empowered, but my subconscious mind was filled with self-beliefs that kept me afraid to say what I wanted to say. How could I say what I wanted to say when my subconscious beliefs told me that I wasn’t lovable unless I was pacifying and pleasing? In fact, some of those subconscious self-beliefs were so powerful that certain triggers would cause my physical body to react with fear-induced adrenaline, which made my ears buzz and my heart beat fast. There was a raging river that separated my conscious mind and my subconscious mind.
Interview with Paige Farrington
How did publishing your first book change your process of writing?
Writing my first book shaped the way I approach writing today. Until then I had never thought of myself as a writer, but as the words flowed from my mind through my fingers, I fell in love with the process. That experience also made me realize how important quality is, especially as a non-fiction writer. More than anything, I want my readers not only to connect with the stories, but also to see themselves reflected in the narratives.
What was an early experience where you learned that language had power?
In my early twenties, I learned firsthand how language can erode confidence. Through a romantic relationship, I discovered its power to either build a person up or tear them down. Experiencing this made the phrase “language has power” undeniably real for me. The idea that language shapes our self-beliefs is a major theme in Love Ignites Peace: Our Next Evolution. Whether we like it or not, we are all products of language’s influence. Part of our next evolution is learning to speak words to ourselves and others that carry love’s life-giving energy, rather than what I define as not-love (the words and actions that diminish happiness and potential). Using Love’s 6 Actions as a framework to guide our communication helps us move away from not-love’s wounding and integrate love’s uplifting beliefs.
What one thing would you give up to become a better writer?
There is nothing I feel like I have to give up, because for me writing is about experiencing life. It is my continuing education that makes me a better storyteller and observer. Discipline to sit down and write is key for me. I love the creative process. Writing never feels like giving something up. It is the coordinating conjunction “and” that adds even more joy to my work days.
Tell us a little about yourself? Perhaps something not many people know?
Brutal honesty here: I hadn’t written anything significant since a college term paper when I decided I wanted to become a better writer. Determined, I hired a writing coach and began putting my thoughts to paper. Her guidance was instrumental in helping me shape my ideas with more texture and color. Over the last seven years, I discovered a voice I didn’t know I had.
If you had to do something differently as a child or teenager to become a better writer as an adult, what would you do?
Write more and be encouraged to write more. I was so afraid of being creative because of an early childhood experience that made me believe what I created wasn’t any good. My biggest takeaway is never squash someone’s creativity! Allow everyone to create/write/paint/sing/act for the pure joy it brings.
What is the biggest surprise that you experienced after becoming a writer?
The outpouring of love and support from my community. They’ve blessed me more that I could have ever imagined.
Could you tell us a bit about your most recent book and why it is a must-read?
Love Ignites Peace: Our Next Evolution is more than a book; it is a movement. Love has the power to reshape our world into something far better. Division, fear, and conflict, the qualities associated with not love, have had their chance, and they do not work. Real change begins within. This book shows you how to embody love rather than chase it, breaking free of the beliefs and patterns that keep you trapped in fear and old drama. Through Love’s 6 Actions, you will discover a practical path to deeper self-awareness, stronger relationships, especially the one with yourself, and a ripple effect that can transform not only your life but also our shared human future.
Like a single candle lighting thousands without ever losing its flame, your words and actions hold the power to spread endlessly. Choose love. Ignite Peace.
