Age of Magic is a dark fantasy story with a timeless fairytale vibe, set in a grounded but magical world.
Excerpt:
What is yer business in Istelton?” said a guard wearing a metal breastplate and half helm. As he said this, other guards started walking around the colourful gypsy wagon, opening the back and inspecting it.
“Bringing me great-great-granddaughter to look after me in me old age,” said Old Nell, exposing her a rotten-toothed mouth as she smiled at the guard.
The guard grimaced at Old Nell’s hideous smile. “Yer live in Istelton?” he asked.
“Born and bred is Old Nell,” she said and chuckled a wheezy laugh.
One of the men on horseback, wearing gleaming armour, had been listening but mostly paying attention to Selene. He spurred his charger forward to the gypsy wagon.
“Your great-great-granddaughter is most fair, old hag,” said the man on horseback as he rode up beside where Selene was seated.
The man was a knight in the Duke of Southreach’s service. He wore brightly polished armour that was embellished with gold gilding. A lilac lambswool cape hung from his shoulders.
His face was clean-shaven except for bushy whiskers below his ruddy nose. He was plain-looking, with cool blue eyes and thinning hair.
Old Nell immediately stopped laughing, the mirth draining from her face. Her head turned to the knight, and her dark, flinty eyes gazed at him.
“Sir Desmond, captain of the eastern road, at your service, my lady,” said the knight, as he bowed his head, but his wolfish gaze never left Selene’s face, which went pink, and she quickly lowered her gaze.
“And fair maiden, pray tell, what be your name?” said Ser Desmond, smiling gently.
Old Nell muttered something under her breath, and Sir Desmond’s horse suddenly reared up, snorting and whinnying, and the knight, taken unawares, was thrown, crashing down on the ground with a thud.
My Review:
After
reading the summary for Age of Magic, I didn’t know what to expect,
but I can assure you that what I found was not anywhere close to what I
expected. What I did find was a world of magic and suspense that kept
me hanging on every word from one time to another.
Age of
Magic took me on a whirlwind ride with all its magic and
numerous twists and turns that are sure to turn any head. I was taken
from one life to another in a swirl of magic. I was left with
question after question with each transfer of time and place,
wondering how each time was connected and by what character, if they
were connected at all.
Each time brought its own magic and
intriguing story that left me wanting more and hanging on each word.
The world-building was magical and engaging in more ways than one. I
couldn’t believe what I was reading most of the time. I didn’t
know if what I was reading was real or not, or just a dream.
Age
of Magic would make a great addition to any library. Grab a copy of
this magical story, Age of Magic, today and travel back in time to a
world of magic.
