Excerpt:

S T A I R C A S E

I saw red while you held my hand

on that hill in a castle of sand

being nice, coming out of the blue

you were losing me, undeniably true

I was just another trophy for your shelf

overloaded by the further rusty twelve

Dissociating from this charming place

you are a mess inside, I know it’s the case

this romance had better leave no trace

but at sunset we sat here on the staircase

THE HIGHER THE STAIRCASE, THE CLEARER THE VIEW.

Dear The Avid Reader,

Thank you so much for having me today :) I’m so glad to e-meet you and really appreciate your choice of excerpt. STAIRCASE offers a glimpse into those moments when we ignore our inner voice and try to make the best of a situation because sometimes it is too painful to let go of hope or we just do not feel ready to move on.

I hope you will enjoy the book and later on the songs that will arise from it. I look forward to your thoughts and to singing your favorite lines at the top of our lungs one day :)

United in intensity,
Intensia

Thank you, Marcy! So glad to hear that :) It’s not exactly poetry in the classical sense, since the book offers poetic lyrics snippets from pop songs in progress, to be released one at a time over the years. But “modern poetry” felt like the closest category for it :) Enjoy the read, and if possible, let me know what you liked most :)

Question for Author--What inspired you to become a writer?

INTENSIA said...

Thanks so much for this great question Sohamolina! You know that feeling when a certain song plays in a room full of perfect strangers and everyone instantly feels a connection, sometimes even starting to sing along by heart? That's exactly why I wrote this book, sharing poetic lyrics from my pop songs in progress :)

This looks like a very good book.

Thanks so much Sherry! Enjoy the read, I would love to know which lines resonate most with you :)

How did you come up with the idea for the book cover?

INTENSIA said...

Thank you so much for this thoughtful question, Kim! I wanted to keep the design modern and minimalistic (like the verses) while also reflecting a certain variety in music. I found that unsorted, colorful music notes on a white background could represent, at a glance, different nuances of moods and people resonating with the work. Since it's not precisely about contemporary poetry but a collection of lyric excerpts from pop songs in progress, I found it really crucial to have something that truly represents the primarily artistic aspect of the project, far away from traditional graphic elements you might expect from more typical book covers. I hope you get the chance to discover the inside, and maybe one day we can even sing together your favorite lines from it! :)
