Blurb:

Noodle, Izzy Harper’s golden retriever, sensed trouble before the café door opened.
Spencer Reed was known for destroying reputations—he’d come for seconds.
By morning, the critic was dead.
And Izzy—the prime suspect.

The real suspects? A five-star lineup of secrets.
A doctor with a family legacy, a spotless lab coat, and a reason to silence Spencer forever.
A famous chef with a temper—and a motive marinated in betrayal.

A single scent takes Izzy back—
to the moment it was made, detail by detail.
One trace held the proof: Spencer’s death wasn’t an accident.
That proof just put Izzy in the killer’s path.

Now, the closer Izzy and Noodle get, the more dangerous it becomes.
And if they don’t solve it soon, the next chapter might be Izzy’s last.

My Review:

Harper Burton’s Murder at Buttermilk Cafe, part of the Windmere Cozy Mystery series, captivated me more than I expected based on the summary. The more I read, the more eager I became to keep going. I was kept in suspense from the first page to the very end.

The mystery grew more complex with numerous twists and turns that kept appearing one after another. I was amazed by what I was reading. At one moment, the story was headed in one direction, and suddenly, it veered off in another. It was almost like watching a tennis match.

Spencer Reed was one man Izzy probably hoped she would never see again. Spencer had destroyed Izzy’s career on live TV—something he was notorious for doing to many people. Izzy moved to a new place for a fresh start and opened Buttermilk Café.

Spencer shows up and intimidates Izzy into doing another taste test. Izzy knew she shouldn’t, but she couldn’t resist, since Spencer was really skilled at what he did to people. During the taste test, Spencer collapses; paramedics are called.

Spencer’s collapse puts Izzy on the list of suspects. As the story unfolds, I quickly realized that Izzy wasn’t the only one who disliked Spencer. Several people surfaced who had reasons for revenge.

I can’t wait for the next book in the Windmere Cozy Mystery series. I highly recommend Murder at Buttermilk Cafe. Grab a copy today!
