The ringing telephone woke me up. Without opening my eyes, I felt around until I touched the nightstand and finally, my phone. “Hello.”

“Wake up.”

I groaned. “Alex, what do you want?”

“I need you to wake up.”

I forced myself to sit up. The clock on the radio said it was after ten. “This better be important.”

“Something is terribly wrong,” Alex said. “It’s the thirtieth and nobody’s dead.”

“Hallelujah.” I hung up and dived back into my pillow. The phone rang again, and I groaned. Only Alex would think that no dead bodies meant something was

wrong.

I rolled over and grabbed the phone. “Now what?”

“No one’s dead.”

My Review:

A man is found guilty of murder and sent to prison. The members of the jury are dying one by one. The jury doesn’t believe their deaths are accidents; rather, they suspect that they are being killed off one at a time. Four members of the jury unite to figure out who is targeting them before they become the next victims.

JURY DUTY IS MURDER is one of the best books I’ve read. I enjoyed getting to know CeeCee, Helen, Alex, and Howard, the four jurors attempting to uncover the mystery behind the threats to their lives.

Told from the perspectives of CeeCee, Helen, Alex, and Howard, JURY DUTY IS MURDER reveals their lives before the trial and illustrates what being sequestered together for four months can do to a person’s existence. Life on the outside continued without them, leaving their lives altered forever.

JURY DUTY IS MURDER kept me engaged as I tried to help them solve the case. I loved witnessing their interactions. The jury members' investigation held my attention and entertained me from start to finish, with no dull moments in between.

This is the first book by Kate Damon that I’ve had the chance to read, but I’m sure it won’t be the last—at least, I hope not.
