Interview with Alicia Sedgwick.

How did publishing your first book change your process of writing?

It gave me confidence and the knowledge that I could write and publish a book.

What was an early experience where you learned that language had power?

I was a lawyer before becoming a Communication Coach and Writer, and I found that language was very powerful, as it could be used to defend or prosecute a person, and could be used against you with mighty effect. Words had to be chosen very carefully so as not to be misinterpreted.

What one thing would you give up to become a better writer?

I do not think as a writer we need to sacrifice anything – all experience helps writing.

Tell us a little about yourself? Perhaps something not many people know?

I think as I mention in my book “BEING” that I was very shy and nervous especially as a teenager when I used to perform as a singer. I learned why from my singing teacher because singing is like standing naked in the middle of the road. One is vulnerable and exposed. This helped me to understand my clients and students lack of confidence when Speaking and Presenting now I am a Communication Coach and to empathise, and support them through their experience.

If you had to do something differently as a child or teenager to become a better writer as an adult, what would you do?

I would not change anything because it all led to my experience and knowledge which I can share now as a writer to help people through the same or similar experiences.

What is the biggest surprise that you experienced after becoming a writer?

That I could write, and my words would help people so significantly in the way I had always dreamed.

Could you tell us a bit about your most recent book and why it is a must-read?

I want to help people always through my work as a Communication Coach, and through my writing. This day and age is so busy, unsettled, unstable and stressful, and my book “BEING” is to help people to find calm, peace and the ability to deeply connect.

People will be reminded that we are human BEings and not human Doings.

My book offers perspective, and guidance to be, and all the ways that being can enrich your life and bring calm and peace. This book will help readers to quieten their mind and live according to their most important ways of being. It is full of personal anecdotes and real-life experiences to give the reader practical help to be. There are uplifting affirmations and life lessons to support readers as they find their way to being and no longer feel compelled to be doing. The reader will find their raison d’etre through the guidance contained in every chapter.

As one reviewer said “this book is exactly what the world needs in this moment.” (Kathy Pickard, California, USA.)
