Blending fiction with fact, 50 Dinosaur Tales imagines the way 50 newly described dinosaurs from the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous lived in their natural habitats.
Also included is a list of fun facts for each dinosaur story, and facts about 108 additional dinosaurs.

Thanks for having me on your blog! I had a great
time answering these questions.
As a
writer, what would you choose as your mascot/avatar/spirit animal?
I think I’d have to go
with a dinosaur! My favorite is Brontosaurus, probably because it was so
huge, and I like the idea of having something so large be my “spirit animal.”
How many
hours a day do you put into your writing?
I try to write a half hour to an hour every week day, and more on
weekends. Some of writing goes into the weekly dinosaur podcast I co-produce
with my husband, I Know Dino.
Do you
read your book reviews? If yes, do they affect what you write in the future?
Yes, I do read them, and when possible I take the critiques into
consideration and incorporate them into my future books, to make them stronger.
Do you
leave hidden messages in your books that only a few people will find?
No, but I like that idea!
Can you tell us a
little bit about the characters in 50 Dinosaur Tales?
50
Dinosaur Tales
is a compilation of short stories, so there are no main characters. But it does
imagine the behavior and life of dinosaurs that have been discovered in the
past 5 years. These include carnivorous and herbivorous dinosaurs, and in these
stories they have their own personalities and motivations (sometimes it’s food,
sometimes they’re looking for fun, and sometimes they just want a little peace
and quiet).
Can you tell us a
little bit about your next books or what you have planned for the future?
I
have a few things in the works. One is a middle grade novel about two atoms
that meet at the Big Bang and live together for a few billion years (and yes
they get to hang out with dinosaurs). Another book in the works is the first in
a series tentatively called Dino Wars. It’s like Game of Thrones but all the
main characters are dinosaurs and it’s set in the Jurassic.
Do you allow yourself
a certain number of hours to write or do you write as long as the words come?
I
tend to write in up to one hour spurts, and then I often need a break.
Sometimes though, I’m on a roll and lose track of time.
Do you have a certain
number of words or pages you write per day?
Depends
on the project I’m working on and the timeline I have. But in general, no.
What inspires you to
write?
I’ve always loved writing, and I enjoy reading all genres. For 50
Dinosaur Tales, paleontologist Bob Bakker and his book Raptor Red
inspired me. Raptor Red tells the story of
a Utahraptor, told through the eyes of the dinosaur. I loved the details
about her life with the storytelling aspect, and I wanted to see more of this
type of dinosaur fiction out there.
