Marriage Isn't For You: It's for the One You Love

What is the best wedding advice you ever received? For author Seth Adam Smith, it was the advice from his father who said, Marriage is not for you. It is about the person you marry. These few words completely changed the way Seth looked at his relationship with his wife-to-be. Because at that moment he realized that an expression of love is not about the person expressing it. Rather, it is about the person they choose to be with. It is about making the person you marry feel loved. Seth's blog post on the subject was viewed by more than twenty-seven million people, and he has been featured on several national TV programs including The Today Show. Now released as a hardcover book, these sage words make the perfect gift for newly married couples, those who have been around the block a few times, or anyone who wants to learn how to make their relationships stronger.

    The Concealing
    Spirit Warriors #1
    By D.E.L. Connor
    Release Date: 11/24/13
    191 pages

    Summary from Goodreads:

Sixteen-year-old Emme Belrose has it all: four best friends, a horse of her own, a hidden tepee hangout, and a blossoming romance with tall and handsome Charlie. These friends also have a secret. They can move their spirits into animal bodies: an osprey, a mustang, a grizzly, a mountain lion and a coyote.

But when Charlie, who has a gift for seeing the future, has a vision of Emme drowning in the icy Yellowstone River, the Spirit Warriors must train their animal bodies to kill an enemy they know is coming… but know nothing about. Suspenseful, romantic, and awash in Native American magic, Spirit Warriors captures the tragic enchantment of the American West-and confirms the power of friendship.

    My Review:

I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Emme and her friends Lily, Bets, Ollie and Charlie all love going out on the Arrington ranch and doing reenactments of the Civil War. After they get through acting out the war they then go to their place in the clearing and camp out in their teepees. Charlie's grandfather Archie stays with them when they are camping. Everyone loves Charlie's grandfather Archie. He is real cool for an older guy. Emme actually met Archie before she met Charlie.

Emme met Archie one day when she was out riding her horse Gus and fell off. Archie stops and ask her if she is ok? Emme bounces back on her feet quickly to prove that she is ok. Archie offers to give Emme riding lessons at the Arrington ranch for free. Emme and her friends all love being with Archie.

Emme met Charlie right after he started going to her school when they were in elementary. Charlie had a seizure, the teacher was in the process of trying to put something in Charlie's mouth when Emme ran over and pushed her out of the way and laid on Charlie trying to hold him still so he wouldn't hurt himself while at the same time talking to him calming him down and just letting him know that someone was there with him. Later after Charlie stopped seizing Emme was asked how she knew what to do? Emme explained to them that she had a horse that had seizures and that is what they do for him. Everyone in the whole class including the teacher and the nurse laughed at Emme. Emme and Charlie were best friends from that day forward after looking into each other's eyes.

I love all the characters in Spirit Warriors: The Concealing. We have Emme, Charlie, Lilly, Bets, Ollie, Jack and Raymond who are all the greatest of people and friends. I don't think there is nothing that either one of them would do for the other including give up their own lives. Each and every one of them would die if that meant the other would live. The things that they do for each other are out of this world. It would be so nice to have friends like that. They spend the majority of their time with each other at one of their homes if they are not in the clearing their own private place that only they know about. The only time they are apart is if they are a sleep but even then they are all together most of the time.

The Concealing is one of the best books that I have read in a long time. The Concealing will touch your heart deeply. It will make you happy but it will make you so sad that you will need at least four or five boxes of Kleenex. Parts of The Concealing had me laughing right along with all the characters and then parts of it had me crying my eyes out. You will fall head over heels in love with all of the characters and the plot as well in The Concealing. Each and every one of the characters all reaches out and touch the hearts of just about everyone they come in contact with. The Concealing is definitely one book that I highly recommend to everyone. I don't know how I am going to stand waiting for the next book to come out..

    My Review: Mind Games

I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Mind Games starts out with action right from the very beginning with Evan who is Cassie Scot's friend. Evan is trying to save a young woman from a group of magical beings and to keep them from using her as a human sacrifice. Evan has his hands full trying to get through all of the magical beings when he runs into a vampire and is wondering why a vampire is there with them but he has no time to dwell on that fact while trying to stay alive. While Evan is fighting with these people Cassie's cousin Jason a vampire himself shows up to help Evan with his battle. Somehow while fighting with these people Evan has time to think about his friend Cassie and the wrong he has done to her. He feels bad and wants to tell her but has not had the nerve as of yet to tell her. And the guilt is eating him alive.

Cassie has had a lot of heart break in her short life span. Cassie's family all have magical powers of some sort except Cassie herself. Cassie's Dad broke her heart by disowning her and throwing her out of the house. Cassie and two of her best friends Kaitlin and Madison have moved in together. Kaitlin is pregnant with Cassie's cousin Jason's baby and Kaitlin is always upset because he left her and she believes that her baby will grow up without a father like she did. Her other friend Madison is dating Cassie's brother and they have a lot of fun together even though Nicolas is a few years younger than Madison. But Nicolas is very good for Madison. She needs someone in her life like Nicolas who can show her how to laugh and have a good time. She needs someone to show her how to be happy since her father threw her out as well. Cassie tries very hard to help Madison and Kaitlin with their problems. She also tries to help take care of all of her brothers and sisters as well. She tries so hard to take care of everyone else that she hardly has anytime left for Cassie. So they all three make for good friends. They are all always trying to help the other to be happy and help each other get over losing the love of the life.

A new guy Matthew who can read people's mind has taken an interest in Cassie and wants to spend time with her. Cassie is not sure she can trust anyone who can read her mind or if she wants to trust him. But she kind of likes him and is attracted to him so she decides why not go out with him and give it a chance. Evan has left town and took her heart with him not to mention the fact that he broke it before he left. So now she figures she may as well get on with her life and try to not feel the hurt that is in her heart. Dwelling on it is not going to get her anywhere. If she keeps dwelling on it, it is just going to cause her more and more hurt.

Cassie finds out that her best friend since childhood and now her ex-boyfriend has something that belongs to her and refuses to give it back to her. He broke her heart when he broke off their relationship and left town for a few weeks. Evan is so very much in love with her and Cassie loved him just as much or more but now that she has found out that he has something that belongs to her and will not give it back. Cassie's heart is crushed all over again but Evan is not the only one that has taken her heart out and stomped on it. There are other people in her life that she loves very much that had a hand in Evan having what belongs to her.

Mind Games is filled with so much suspense and mystery from the very first page until the very last page. Half the time I didn't know what was going on but that is not a bad thing that is a good thing. When you don't know what is going on in a book just means that the author is a very good writer that knows how to keep her readers wanting more and wanting to keep on reading because you just got to know what is going happen next. The Cassie Scot series is one of the best series around. I have truly enjoyed reading each and every one of them and can't or hope I get to read more of Cassie's adventures.

Praise for the Cassie Scot Series

    From Publisher's Weekly:

"Amsden continues the story of the only mundane member of a supernaturally-gifted family in this middling sequel to Cassie Scot: ParaNormal Detective. Cassie, stubborn and proud, is bravely trying to live on her own after her family disowns her. Struggling to make ends meet, she accepts a case involving a pair of magical girls who disappeared from summer camp. With the aid of the handsome Evan Blackwood, to whom Cassie is attracted despite her family's disapproval and her own better judgment, she follows the trail of the missing girls. What she finds is a dark side of the magical world, and the hidden depths of her family's past force her to reconsider long-held assumptions. The growing complexity of Cassie's world makes this an entertaining installment, focusing as much on the will-they, won't-they romantic chemistry between Cassie and Evan as on the primary mystery. An inconclusive ending is clearly intended to feed into the next volume."

Kim Falconer, bestselling author of The Spell of Rosette, Quantum Enchantment Series, had this to say:

"When sorcerers call the shots, what's a girl without powers to do? Get ready for a ripper of a murder mystery full of romance and intrigue, where magic potions bubble, passions spark and vampires are definitely not your friend. Cassie Scot: ParaNormal Detective grabs you by the heart and won't let go until the very last page. Well written, immersive and unputdownable. This is urban fantasy at its best. More please!"

WOLF'S STRENGTH - CAEDMON SERIES BY AMBRIELLE KIRK

     photo WolfsStrength500x750.jpg

    Genre: Paranormal

    Tension grows between old rivals...

Cold-blooded murder sparks a feud that could lead to the deadliest civil war in Pack history. Alpha Devin Caedmon and his council are tempted to risk all that is precious to protect their bloodline. Tristan Arnou, the rival Pack's leader, isn't the only force trying to tear down the unity holding them together. All threats must be eliminated before their entire race is destroyed.

Forbidden love burns like a wildfire... There is one woman who Blake DeLuca loves more than anything else: Naomi Valentine. Despite the escalating battle and power struggles among their leaders, the erotic fire between these two lovers has yet to be extinguished. Naomi's heart belongs to Blake, but her allegiance lies with Arnou. She's left with two choices...assume her duty or accept Blake's eternal bond?

In Wolf's Strength secrets are exposed, and memories that were buried long ago have resurfaced. The game of deception is a deadly one. There can be no peace until the bloodshed ends.

    Excerpt:

"Why, Naomi? Why do we have to go on like this?"

She swallowed. "There are a million reasons why, and you're aware of every single one of them."

"Let's run away. Somewhere far…and then we won't have to worry about it."

That had been the plan when they were young, but now they were adults with important responsibilities.

"Stop talking nonsense. You know that's impossible. You have your duty and I have mine." As she said this, she glimpsed a bit of remorse in his eyes, but there was something strange mixed with it. "You're different.

    Your eyes are…"

"Then the news hasn't reached your Pack?" he inquired.

"There are traitors among Arnou. Tristan and his Council are selective about whom they share information with." She peered across the other side of the building, sensing her brothers had not left the area. "I have to go."

"Wait!" He tightened his grip on her hand and lifted a brow. "What do you mean traitors?"

She nodded. "Real traitors. Apparently, vital secrets were released about Arnou's plan for our Pack. Tristan has interrogated many suspects. He threatens the life of any who cross him."

Blake's nose flared and his fingers tightened on her waist. "Get out before it's too late."

"It is too late," she said firmly. "Back to the subject. What news are you referring to?"

    "I don't want you concerned."

"Really? Or is it because you think word will reach Arnou after you've told me?"

Blake grinned but only for a split second. "Trust me, your leader knows what happened. Maybe he's ashamed to admit his failure to his followers."

    "What failure?"

In that moment his eyes grew red and he stared at her under heavy dark eyelashes. She tried to pull away, but his firm hold on her prevented them for parting.

"What's been missing for centuries that both Alphas want?"

Naomi narrowed her eyes. "They both want absolute power of the North American territories. But what do you mean? What has been missing?"

"It's been so long, but have you forgotten already?" He lowered his voice as he spoke this time.

"As an Elite we're handpicked to guard the Alpha, eliminate his threats, and clean up after his messes. I'm not paid, nor do I make it my priority to delve into anything else."

"Ah…is that so? You and I both know you don't follow Arnou's rules to the T." He slid his nose against the side of her neck, causing her to shiver against him. "I'm a threat to your leader and the pledge you made to him, am I not?"

Naomi bit her bottom lip as Blake's canines replaced his nose against her throat. "Just tell me what the fuck you're talking about. What is missing?"

His manhood hardened against her belly. "What should I do with that naughty mouth of yours, huh?" He pressed his hot tongue against her pulsing jugular.

Her knees buckled as he released the pheromones from his tongue and awakened her wolf. It was his way of marking her internally, and her hungry pores absorbed all of it.

    "Tell me," she urged.

    "I-"

A long howl from the distance startled them both. It was Nathan warning her she needed to hurry.

"Come with me-permanently," Blake demanded without releasing her. "And you'll know everything."

"No." She pulled out of his embrace. "I have to go before someone discovers us. Why are you still here?

    You'll get caught too."

"I know the sheriff downstairs. We'll handle the cover up."

"Must be nice to have ranking in the human world."

His lips spread into a smile. "The sheriff isn't humankind."

"Figures." Caedmon royalty had connections like that inside as well as outside the shifter world. It almost made her think they had more of a chance than her Arnou leader.

Blake frowned. "How do you expect me to protect you from so far away?"

"You left me years ago." She pointed at his chest. "You should have thought about that before you made that decision."

"Don't…" He tried to reach her, but she continued to back away. "You still want to use that against me? We agreed to a plan years ago. You didn't follow through."

She swallowed. He was right. At the last minute she'd all but betrayed him. "I would go with you, but just like it was years ago, there is more than my life at stake."

    Excerpt:

I pull out my notebook and doodle his name all over the page while I wait for him to walk in the room. The saxophone players are the closest to me, and they're smack-talking the flutists. I'm stifling my laughter when one of them makes a comment about how Sammy's (flute chair one) blow form is all screwed up and she needs practice.

"How she got first chair is beyond me. She has no embouchure."

"And she needs desperate help with her fingering."

"Yeah, and Ms. Hamilton wants her to take Levi 'under her wing.' Seriously, I can teach him better fingering than she can. And I'm a sax player."

"Flutists get special treatment. It's a bunch of crap."

Wait, back it up. They said Levi somewhere in there. My eyes flick up to the three saxophonists, or whatever they're called. One of the girls is looking straight across the half circle of band players. I follow her gaze to the flutists, and right there in front, is Levi pulling out this teeny tiny stick from the small case he's been carrying around all day.

Is that an instrument? It's like the size of my forearm. Maybe not even that.

    What happened to his drums?

Amazon multi-category and international bestselling author of HOW TO DATE A NERD, HOW TO SEDUCE A BAND GEEK and HOW TO HOOK A BOOKWORM

Cassie Mae is a nerd to the core from Utah, who likes to write about other nerds who find love. Her angel children and perfect husband fan her and feed her grapes while she clacks away on the keyboard. Then she wakes up from that dream world and manages to get a few words on the computer while the house explodes around her. When she's not writing, she's spending time with the youth in her community as a volleyball and basketball coach, or searching the house desperately for chocolate.

Cassie Mae is an Amazon.com bestselling author of the teen contemporary romance novel REASONS I FELL FOR THE FUNNY FAT FRIEND, which she self-published. In addition to publishing with Swoon Romance, she is published by Random House Flirt.
