Excerpt:
When I reached the back corner of the four-story, brick building, I hesitated. The sun had dipped below the adjacent structure, leaving the alley in a gray haze and giving it a creepy vibe. My heart sped up as I replayed all the horror stories Mom had drilled into me. Though we tell everyone we're from El Paso, the truth is we lived in a small suburb outside the city. So Mom filled my head with tales about the dangers of living downtown in a city the size of Houston-muggings, assaults, drug deals, she'd warned me repeatedly, and now those cautionary tales were hammering through me with every beat in the music spilling from behind the building.

Pressing my back against the bricks, I felt the heavy thump of the bass in my chest. The music issued out, echoing around me, like a rhythmic call to battle. I stood there long enough for one song to end and another to begin. Then, clutching my bag to my side, I peeked around the bend and was surprised to see a group of about a dozen people gathered in a loose circle. A mixture of ethnicities, some shuffled and shimmied, while others bounced and popped to the music's time.

When their formation shifted, I could see into the ring of figures. A young African-American man danced there, arms snaking in and out and legs nimbly swirling. After several steps, he twitched his head toward someone in the surrounding group, and a woman laughed uproariously before jumping into the center as he sauntered out. She jiggled and jolted to the music in a way that was captivating. It was as if the music emanated from the dancer, rather than the big boom box sitting on the trunk of a car.

Their laughter was exhilarating, and I could see that taunting and bragging was a part of the performance. Completely engrossed, I became careless and before I knew it, I'd drifted from the safety of the building's shadow to stand in the open. Then someone spoke, and I knew I'd made a horrible mistake.

About the Author
I'm not the typical author. I didn't always enjoy reading or writing. While in school, I found it to be a chore I'd just as soon skip. I would rather have been daydreaming, my favorite past time. It wasn't until I grew up and didn't have to, that I realized reading was fun. I soon discovered that reading fueled my daydreaming. So, remembering a short story I'd written in high school, I began imagining expanding that story into a book. Before long I found I had loads of ideas for not just the short story but other books and stories as well. Fast forward a few years, a lot of studying about writing, practicing my writing, studying some more, taking classes from people who knew what they were doing, studying and practicing yet more, and ta-dah, author! In the same way I had learned I loved reading, I learned I loved writing, too. It's just that writing is a lot harder than reading.

Deception Al Dente
José Picada, P.I., Book One
By Heather Fraser Brainerd and David Fraser
Paranormal Mystery
Published: February 22nd 2013
Publisher: MuseItUp Publishing

Blurb:

Having left the dull life of workers' comp insurance behind to strike it out as a private detective, things aren't going well for Josie P. Cates. Her new career isn't as exciting - or lucrative - as she thought it would be. As her bank account dwindles, her first major client finally walks in the door. Chef Marco, a successful local restaurateur, hires Josie to find out who's skimming money from his business. It doesn't take long for Josie to discover that things at Bistro Italiano aren't what they seem. Secrets seem to cling to Chef Marco like splattered marinara sauce. With the help of friends both old and new, Josie unravels a case that takes her from the bistro to the world of deadly dark magic. At least it keeps things from being too boring.

About the Authors:

Heather Fraser Brainerd is a renaissance woman. After earning a degree in Anthropology, she embarked on an incongruous career as a workers' compensation insurance adjuster. She rapidly climbed the claims-handling ladder before surprising her colleagues by leaving the high-powered world of lumbar strains and carpal tunnel syndrome to run a child care center. Thousands of dirty diapers and gallons of strained peas later, she decided that maybe the insurance industry wasn't quite as bad as she remembered. Unfortunately, it was. Fortunately, a few years later, she met the most wonderful man in the world. Now a stay-home mom to three amazing boys, she is able, at long last, to focus on her writing. Heather lives in New York with her family and their crazy pug/terrier.

David Fraser was born on March 25, 1973. March 25, incidentally, is International Waffle Day (Varfudagn in Sweden) and Tolkien Reading Day (The Ring was destroyed on March 25). Elton John shares his birthday. So next March 25, you should eat a waffle while reading Lord of the Rings and listening to Rocket Man. I know Dave will. Before deciding to become an internationally-famous author, Dave held a number of different jobs. He processed small business insurance policy changes, tested software on digital copier/printers, put out little orange flags in pick-your-own strawberry fields, installed internet cable in schools, shelved books in a library, taught college calculus, and handed out raffle tickets at a Barry Manilow concert. Granted, this last job was a one day temp job, but it was awesome. He currently does little fix-up jobs around his house and chauffeurs his kids while trying to find time to write.

Conquered
LeKrista Scott, Vampire Hunted Series #3
By Tyffani Clark Kemp
Published: August 15, 2014 by SideStreet Cookie Publishing

LeKrista never thought Roman would kidnap her, but it seems there's no depth to which he won't stoop. She's stuck in a fortress in the middle of only God knows where with no way to contact her family or her new fiance and let them know she's alright.

To add insult to injury, Roman has brought her arch nemesis to keep her company. Forced to make friends with Eddy, the man who has made her life miserable for years, she bides her time until a rescue can be arranged.

But unrealized feelings for her vampire captor make things complicated. Or perhaps it's Stockholm Syndrome. She can't really be sure.

Just to make matters worse, the vampires are ready to go through with their plan to rule the world with an iron fang, and once again, she's caught in the middle of the war for power. The truth of her involvement is becoming clear, but she may lose more than her freedom in her quest to stop the the powerful undead on her own.

Excerpt-

I think Roman was literally dead to the world when I woke the next morning. He was pasty white, unmoving, not breathing. His arms around me were cold and stiff.

Maybe it's a vampire sleep thing. They don't need to breathe when they sleep.

I rose up on one elbow and stared down at him, holding my own breath as I waited for him to breathe. Before long, my lungs screamed for air and I couldn't deny them the oxygen they so needed.

I touched his face, tracing a finger down from his temple to his jaw. Compared to last night, his skin was cold and hard, maybe because he needed to feed. I traced his chin and lips.

Fingers wrapped around my wrist and teeth clamped gently down on my fingers. I gasped, startled at the sudden movement. I hadn't even seen it coming. Roman's eyes opened, but it was like he didn't recognize me at first.

"Tell me why I agreed to this again?" His voice was deep and thick.

"Because Cynric-"

"Ah, yes. No need to speak of it. How are you this morning?"

"I'm okay. I think."

Roman grinned, flashing so much fang that my jaw dropped.

"You have never seen me first thing in the morning," he said. "I forgot what a shock it would be for you. I am simply irresistible before I feed."

"And ten times more charmingly arrogant than when you're trying to be a good little boy."

"There is nothing little about me." He pressed his hips up. I was leaning over him so that he pressed against my hip. "Not even before I feed."

"Yes, I see that. Wow. Uhm…"

The door opened.

"Not what I expected," Eddy said from the doorway. "Not what I expected at all. I'm telling Pierce."

"Edgar, I will kill you!" I shouted.

Book Soundtrack--

The perfect soundtrack for Conquered would be anything that sounds like Skillet. Most of their music is what I listen to when I'm writing this series. Their music is dark and hard and hopeful and that's how I feel about these books.

An Interview with Tyffani Clark Kemp-

What inspired you to write Conquered?

It's the third book in the series, and quite honestly, it's not what it was SUPPOSED to be, but these books ever are. Book two took me somewhere I hadn't intended. It ended with the kidnapping of my main character and book three is about her during her kidnapping, but it's not what it seems.

When or at what age did you know you wanted to be a writer?

I was eleven when I started writing seriously.

What is the earliest age you remember reading your first book?

Oh goodness. I have no idea. I do remember when I was younger, my grandparents read to me every single night. I think that was integral in my development.

What genre of books do you enjoy reading?

Sci fi, fantasy, paranormal. Sci fi is my first love.

What is your favorite book?

I hate this question. I always say The Princess by Lori Wick, but I think I will change it up and say A Long, Fatal Love Chase by Louisa May Alcott.

You know I think we all have a favorite author. Who is your favorite author and why?

Hm… Ted Dekker has always been one of my favorites. His work is just so amazing to me.

If you could travel back in time here on earth to any place or time. Where would you go and why?

Victorian England...because it was all steampunk then...right? Right?

When writing a book do you find that writing comes easy for you or is it a difficult task?

Usually it comes very easily for me, but that doesn't mean it's not hard work. It's mentally and emotionally draining and when your imaginary friends aren't talking to you it can be kind of miserable.

Do you have any little fuzzy friends? Like a dog or a cat? Or any pets?

I have two dogs. =) Both mutts. One is 8 and one is 1 and I love my fur babies.

What is your "to die for", favorite food/foods to eat?

It depends on my mood at the moment. I would love someone to make chocolate covered sour punch straws and chocolate covered sour patch kids. I think I might die if that happened.

Do you have any advice for anyone that would like to be an author?

Don't give up. When you get to the middle of your first book and it's hard and you're tired and you feel like it's shit and you're shit and what the hell is this shit?! Keep going, because when you get to the end you'll never be the same person again. You'll never write a book the same way again, because you're no longer a beginner. You're an accomplished writer.

About the Author-

Tyffani Clark Kemp has been writing since she discovered in the sixth grade that it wasn't enough just to read about fantastic places, but she could create her own. She weaves small bits of herself into everything she writes whether it be a science fiction piece about aliens or a dramatic romance fraught with conflict and love. She lives in South Carolina with her family and her fluffy shii tzu-mix dog who thinks he's a Saint Bernard.

Review of The Space In Between By Jen Minkman @JenMinkman

The Space In Between
by Jen Minkman

Blurb:

When Moira helps out her sister and brother in a Wiccan ritual on Halloween, the last thing she expects is to be swept away to a mystical wilderness. Sitting within the stones of the ancient circle of Penmaenmawr, Wales, she's convinced it's an illusion. But the dark-haired, handsome man with amnesia that Moira meets during her trance cannot be blinked away like a dream.

Hayko, the mysterious stranger, won’t let go. After returning home from her stone circle adventure, Moira is beckoned back night after night to the outlandish dreamland by an invisible force. But the hardest part isn't having to fight the terrifying creatures of these nightmares--it's realizing she’s falling for a guy without a past who isn’t real.

What if you really can fall in love with the man of your dreams?

    photo bnicon.png

Excerpt:

Moira opened her eyes, but the darkness wouldn’t subside. She was standing in an obscure, pitch-black landscape, the only source of light a small strip of light at the horizon. Had it suddenly turned evening – or morning?

Dai and Tabby were next to her, looking around them with mouths agape.

“Uhm... where are we?” Moira inquired anxiously. Her voice sounded weird – like she was stuffed inside a box of cotton wool that dampened all sound.

“I haven’t got the faintest clue,” Tabitha admitted truthfully . She took a step forward and kneeled down. “Not on the moors, that’s for sure. This is sand.”

Were they in the middle of a desert?

“You think this is the Summerland?” Dai asked, flummoxed . “I’m not too stoked about the levels of sunlight, to be honest.”

Moira giggled nervously. “Isn’t this just a dream, though?”

“A dream all three of us are having at the same time?” Tabby shot back a bit crabbily.

“Well, how should I know? Maybe you two aren’t even here and I’m making this all up.”

Out of the blue, Dai pinched her in the arm. “Ouch,” Moira grunted. “What are you doing that for?”

“Oh, just checking if it’s really you.” Moira landed a vindictive punch on Dai’s shoulder, making him groan. “It’s really me,” she replied.

My Review:

I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Moira studies art and art history part time at Bangor University while working part time at a hotel. Moira loves going to college and getting credits for something she really loves doing. She likes to spend as much time as possible with her mom, dad, her brother Dai and sister Tabby. Dai and Tabby are twins and they go to the same University as Moira. She also likes to spend a lot of time with her best friend and Dai's girlfriend Holly.

Sometimes Moira has a hard time keeping up with her studies and working. She has ADHD and takes Ritalin. Sometimes she can't focus on her art without taking her pills. Holly is a very good for Moira and helps her out a lot when they are at school or wherever they may be. Dai and Tabby is the best brother and sister a person could have. Moira loves spending time with all three of them because they understand her and know how to help her when she gets frustrated with life.

Moira has a boyfriend whom she loves and who loves her very much or at least that is what he says. I am not so sure that he really loved her or cared about her. I guess he did love her in his own way. Patrick was very controlling and always telling her what to do; he treated her like she was his child instead of his girlfriend. He thought he knew what was best for her and what she wanted. He was always trying to change her into the person he wanted her to be, the person that he was in love with. Moira's heart was so big that all she wanted was to please everyone else. She cared about others so much and wanted to make them happy that she lost track of what made her happy. I guess it she became easier for her to do what Patrick told her to do than argue with him and end up hurting him or making him mad.

Tabby asks Dai and Moira if they would help her with a ritual on Halloween night. Tabby wanted to see if she could open up a portal so that she could talk to her grandparents one more time. After Tabby made the circle and cast her spell strange things started happening and the next thing they knew they were in a different place than they were before. At first they were not sure where they were or if it was real or not they thought they were all having the same dream. But they finally realized that the spell had worked and they were in the space in between worlds. While they were in this world they met this guy Hayko who couldn't remember who he was or where he was from. From then on when they went to sleep they would end up in the same dream together dreaming about Hayko.

Hayko helped Moira figure out who she was and what she wanted in life. He also gave her the courage she needed to stand up for what she wanted in life. He taught her how to be independent and to stand on her two feet. Moira didn't understand at first why she was dreaming about Hayko but after visiting and talking with him a few times she finally realized why she was there. Moira started to fall in love with the man of her dreams literally and the more time she spent with him the more she came to care about him.

Moira, Tabby and Dai had wonderful parents who loved them very much and taught their children to love and care for each other. They let them be who they were and trusted them enough to let them make their own choices in life. I love how Moira and her siblings cared for and would take up for the other one. They always had each other's back, they would stand up for each other and always helped each other with whatever it was they needed help with. I loved how they all got along and never argued with each other even if they didn't believe in the same things or the same way. If the world had just a smidge of what Moira, Tabby, Dai, Holly and Hayko had then ever one would be better off and a whole lot richer.

The Space In Between is not the first book I have read by Jen Minkman and it definitely won't be the last either. I have loved every book by her that I have read. Jen knows how to write a story and draw you into their world making you lose all track of time and where you are. If you have not read any of her work yet then go check her out. Trust me if you don't you just might end up regretting it because she is a wonderful writer who knows how to tell a story.

About The Author:

Jen Minkman (1978) was born in Holland, in the town of Alphen aan den Rijn. When she was 19, she moved between The Hague, Salzburg (Austria), Brussels (Belgium) and Cambridge (UK) to complete her studies in intercultural communication. She is currently a teacher of English, career counsellor and teenage coach at a secondary school in Voorburg, Holland. She tries to read at least 100 books a year (and write a few, too!). She is a published author in her own country, and translates her own books from Dutch into English for self-publication.

In her spare time, she plays the piano, the guitar and the violin. For every novel she writes, she creates a soundtrack.

'I have always been drawn to writing. My first book was a sci-fi novel at the age of eight, which I painstakingly typed out on my dad's typewriter and illustrated myself. Nowadays, I stick to poetry, paranormal romance, chick lit and/or fantasy. In my home country, I am the first-ever published writer of paranormal romance, and I will gradually make my books also available in English (seeing I have to re-write and translate the books myself, this will take some time!).

I gave him the best years of my online life and what did he do for me?

Ruined my social media experience one tweet at a time. That's what.

Excerpt:

My tablet dings with an incoming third-party Twitter notification.

@FilthyBlueBird has unfollowed you.

I laugh. "Oh, Grace, Grace, Grace. You think you can slip me that easily?"

Grace @FilthyBlueBird - 1s
OMG, I have a stalker! What do I do, #BlueBirds?

You'd think a woman using Twitter this regularly for a few years would understand how it all works. I can still see her tweets when she unfollows me. I have to stop and laugh a little.

MovieStar @VaughnAsher - 30s
@FilthyBlueBird Who is this stalker? I will set him straight.

And then the usual happens. Within minutes, there are dozens of @replies. Mostly from her girlfriends on the Dirty Heaven list, the #BlueBirds. But some random stalkerish fans of my own are in there too.

@VaughnAsher is @FilthyBlueBird your GF?
@VaughnAsher if you're the stalker, you can stalk me any time!
@VaughnAsher who is @FilthyBlueBird? Can I be your blue bird?

They get worse from there. Invitations to fuck them. Sit on my face. #SOHF is a code word for that on Twitter. @FilthyBlueBird uses that one a lot. And I've got to admit, that's something I'd like to imagine. More than imagine, actually. I'd like to lick that sweet little pussy until she's dripping down my chin.

Fuck. I'm horny. I reach for my phone and press Grace's number in my contacts. She picks up on the first ring.

"What the hell are you doing?" she growls at me.

"You left so suddenly, Grace. I didn't have a chance to-"

"Get off my Twitter feed, Asher. Now!"

I chuckle. It's one of those full-of-myself chuckles I do when my power is looming over people. "Now whyever would I do that, Miss Kinsella?"

"Because, Vaughn, I'm just a girl from Denver who has absolutely no interest in signing your contract. It was a fun fling, but it's over now. So leave me alone and stop stalking me on Twitter! My friends are all going to see-" She's interrupted by a continuous litany of pinging from my tablet and I admit, at this point in the conversation, I've got a hand over my mouth to stop the laughing. She screams on the other end of the line.

I can see why. She just got bombarded with tweets asking about me.

"Oh my God. What do I tell them? What the hell am I going to tell them?" She screams again. "Fuck! Bebe just found out, thanks a lot! I never told her about you, now she's going to know I was with you on the island."

"So?"

"So? Jesus, have you no sympathy for me at all? She's my best friend and I lied to her! I fucked a goddamned movie star and I didn't tell her! How can you-"

"Grace?"

"-be so fucking cold, you jerk!"

"Grace?"

"Oh. My. God. Do you hear that? That's her now! She's calling on the other line!"

"Answer it, I'll wait."

"Answer it? No! I'm-"

"Grace?"

"What?"

"I'll tell them all it was a lie if…"

"If what?" she growls at me through the phone.

"If you have phone sex with me, right now."

Excerpt:
Suddenly, the café had become suffocating and Bobby felt the urge to run. Anywhere. But he wasn't ready to go hanging around the laundromat and increase his odds of running into Gabe. Instead, he took a huge bite of sandwich to keep himself from blurting something rude.

Dana pulled the newspaper toward her, a cascade of stringy hair hanging in her face. Between the strands, Bobby could see her pouty lips move as she read. "My cousin Rosemarie knows this girl," she said finally, her gaze still trained on the article. "And now the State Police have pulled Daddy into the case…whoops!" Dana clamped a hand to her mouth. "I shouldn't have said that. Daddy told me never to talk about official police business."

Bobby leaned forward, angling the paper so he could look at it again. "Why? Is it a murder investigation now?"

"Let it go, Sherlock." Coco said. "She said she can't talk about it."

Bobby rolled his eyes. "Figures. The one time Dana Barclay has something to say, she's under a gag order."

Dana's eyes flashed to his, something cold and sharp behind the softness, like a needle tucked inside a cotton ball. "Why are you so interested, Bobby?"

"Why not? Nothing ever happens in Graxton."

"You think a girl disappearing is cool?" Dana stared at him, the corners of her mouth tugged downward. It was a known fact that her father, Sheriff Barclay, hated Bobby's dad. Chuck Barclay and Sam Pendell had been bitter rivals in high school, a feud that continued into their adult years. Somehow, Dad had always managed to keep a step ahead-until he landed in a wheelchair. Hate like that, Bobby thought, doesn't just go away. It goes underground and festers, eventually seeping into everything.

Dana stood abruptly. "I have to go. Daddy's picking me up in five. Movie night in Kingston."

"Have fun," Bobby said under his breath. Dana glared at him, face flushed, nostrils flared.

After Dana had left, Coco drummed his fingers on the tabletop. "What the hell was that? I know you two aren't best friends, but can you at least try to be civil?"

"Sorry. I don't know what's got into me today."

Coco frowned. "You sure you're feeling okay? You look pale, like the skin on your ugly mug is pulled too tight around your skull."

Bobby cleared his throat and wondered if the day's strains showed that clearly on his face. "I'm fine. I was just curious, is all. It's weird, isn't it, that they're keeping it all hush-hush? I wonder what's really going on."

Coco slanted his head, still gazing at Bobby with his piercing stare. Bobby knew the prospect of a riddle would be too tempting for his friend to pass up. But just why he was so curious, Bobby couldn't begin to explain.

"I can ask him for you, if you like," Coco said. "Barclay's always tripping over himself to be nice to me. I'll just kind of mention that Dana is upset by the whole thing. See if he bites and throws me some inside info."

"No! I mean, never mind. I just thought, if you'd heard chatter…"

"So now I'm Homeland Security." The glint in Coco's eye was back and Bobby knew he was forgiven. Coco never stayed mad long.

Bobby threw a piece of lettuce at Coco's head. A crust of bread sailed back at him. Pete started barking and then Aaron rushed over, picked up a napkin and put it over Coco's eyes, yelling, "Pirate attack!"

Bobby laughed hard as the memory of their years of zaniness washed over him in a warm wave. He joined Aaron in the attack, and helped pull Coco from the chair to the floor. Pete got busy licking everyone, the three of them wrestling and laughing on the floor like puppies.

Jerry's voice cut through the mayhem. "Excuse me, boys. We seem to have another customer."

From the tangle of bodies, Bobby looked up. Arms folded, Gabe stood smirking from the doorway. In the confusion, he hadn't heard the jangle of the door opening. "Looks like fun. Mind if I join in?"

Coco was on his feet in an instant and, smoothing his rumpled clothes, lunged toward her in a few long-legged strides.

"Welcome! Can I get you anything, madam?" He pulled out a chair at the nearest table and gestured toward it. "Please, have a seat! I'm Coco, otherwise known as James Woods, no relation to the actor of the same name."

Gabe giggled. "Nice to meet you. I'm Gabriella. But call me Gabe." Bobby sighed. It was no contest. He could never outshine Coco when it came to charm. In this case, maybe that was a good thing.

Sky's End
by Lesley Young

Blurb:

A secret she must never share. A secret that two warring species are determined to control. A universe's future at stake.

Twenty-year-old Cassiel Winters joins Earth's new space academy in hopes of finding her brother, one of Command's top pilots and her only family, who's been reported MIA. But she quickly realizes she may not be cut out for life in space, where female cadets are outnumbered, competition's fierce, and she's already failed her hand-to-hand combat test once.

Even the station's most respected officer, Lt. Damian King, probably can't help Cassiel pass the second time around - so why is he so interested in her progress? If only one of her freaky de?ja? vu visions would offer an answer instead of mysterious messages like hide.

When Cassiel's manipulated into a perilous mission, she encounters a warrior species bred to protect the universe from an even greater threat. And she learns that her secret visions are at the heart of it all.

Now Cassiel must fight to control her own destiny and race to save her brother - even if it means pretending to be the pawn of Prime Or'ic, the cold-as-steel Thell'eon leader. Even if it means risking her life, facing hard truths, and making the ultimate sacrifice.

Excerpt:

I pry open an eyelid. Onegin's killing me. Thanks to his restlessness after my 'dream,' I slept horrible. He was in and out of his downcore. Pacing. Mumbling to himself. I guess that's how mad men sleep.

Come on, be positive. You get to fly today. Nope. No nerves. No excitement. Nothing. I head to the privy and put on the one outfit that's somewhat modest, a shirt that sits just above my navel and a long skirt with slits that I keep meaning to sew shut. Onegin seems especially agitated when I emerge. He tells my new aide to hurry through the door. When we leave my space, he grabs my arm, hard, dragging me with him.

"Ouch! Onegin, you're hurting me. I can walk myself!"

He's mumbling something about it being the right thing, his duty. What the hell? I let him manhandle me because I need to pay attention to the route to the hangar bay.

I smell the man sweat, hear the sounds of combat, and my stomach flips. I don't want to pass by the arena, let alone witness Lor being abused. I try to stare straight ahead, but I can't because Onegin's dragging me right into the arena.

That's when alarm bells start going off. "Onegin! What are you doing? Let me go!" Dozens of Thell'eons are already practicing in those barbed razor rings and in incredibly intricate obstacle courses. Some are sprinting, others wrestling. A few take notice, since at this point I'm shouting wildly at Onegin.

I look around desperate for another Kir. "Prime Or'ic!" I yell, relieved when I spot him fighting with Kell'an. They pause to take in the commotion. They're breathing heavy and drenched in sweat. The weapons they're using, whips that fire things, settle on the ground near their feet like pet snakes.

I expect Or'ic to be alarmed that Onegin has brought me here. I relax, confident that he will reprimand Onegin like he usually does. But, after a brief, blank stare, he turns back to spar with Kell'an again. My heart sinks. Onegin, not pausing once to check with his Prime, is hauling me toward an empty ring.

Holy stars!

Thell'eons spread apart to let him pass. Some keep watching instead of going back to their fighting.

I'm in real trouble. Yup. No doubt about it.

What can I say to stop him? Do something! My brain's screaming this, but my mind's coming up empty.

Onegin jumps up on the ledge, hauls me up with one arm, and tosses me easily over the barbed razors, like a bloody ball. I land hard on all fours.

I'm in a ring. In a ring. Oh, this is real bad. "Fight!" shouts Onegin, who's stalking me in rapid half- circles. I lean back on my ankles, crouched. I can't believe this is happening. Why's he doing this? Now, now I regret saving his stupid dumb-ass life.

I remember the look in his eyes as he watched that Aeon shake the crap out of me, frozen in time, helpless to help me. And last night, after my nightmare, staring down on me, angst-ridden, confused.

But . . . why would he want to hurt me? Is he ashamed that I saved him? Is this punishment?

No. Or'ic said he's indebted. He was mumbling something about duty.

Holy stars. He wants to show me how to fight.

"Onegin! I already know how to fight!" I shout at him, deciding I can reason my way out of this.
