Past secrets haunt them. An angry demon stalks them.

Roman will do anything to recover what they once had. Though Stella's ruined childhood has made her close her heart and body to any man, he must get past the walls around her to gain her love and trust, for it will take their union to defeat an unexpected enemy sent from the Egyptian Gods. For the Love of Death
By Tamara Rose Blodgett
(Death #7)
Publication date: September 5th 2014
Genres: Adult, Dystopia

Description:

The year is 2049 and in the new dystopian order, the Randoms have risen to the top like cream. Earth faces dire consequences because of the Helix Complex and their illicit use of mass-sterilization. Many who could have children, were made into mules from the virulent Zondorae concoction of 2030.

Now middle-aged, Death's children do their best to move forward in a world where technology and paranormal powers collide in a mix of tragedy and circumstance. Zombies have been raised for the slave trade by those Randoms in power.

Paxton Hart and Parker's twin girls are grown and on the radar for those that understand how critical they are for the future. The tight-knit circle of friends continues to network for solutions to the depravity that has taken hold.

Can the original group right a tremendous wrong? Will the new generation of Randoms find a solution for propagation, or will their power base cannibalize those who choose harmony instead of greed?

Quote:

"... Scalps litter the torn wounds of the driveway, some of them stuck between the gaps like raw meat caught in cement teeth...."

Excerpt:

"Hello?" Gramps voice bellows into the phone like falling gravel.

"Hey Gramps, it's Caleb."

"I know who it is. I've got caller ID as part of my bundle, ya know."

Caller ID. The most archaic thing on the planet.

Jade's lips quirk, easily making out his side of the conversation.

"He needs another ear replacement," she says quietly. I nod, putting a finger to my lips.

"Right. Listen, Gramps... Deegan and Paxton are MIA. Ya know where they are?"

Jade and I stopped at two kids. Felt like ten. There wasn't enough protection in the world for our kids as Randoms. We still worry.

The open line buzzes. "Both the kids were here. Pax and I changed the oil out on the Camaro..."

Good, Pax needs that connection.

"There was a little incident with Deedie."

Jade covers her mouth with a hand, eyes wide. I wrap her forearm with my hand.

Images flow.

She nods, taking a shaky inhale.

"What's going on?"

"Clyde brought her. Some ruffian is trying to vamp her psychic energy right out of her."

"Brad Thompson," Jade says, throwing her arms down by her sides, color spreading across her cheekbones.

I'm so pissed it should be illegal. I can feel my old friend Rage come knocking. I concentrate on my breathing.

I hate some of these Randoms. My prejudice is worse than everyone's because I was part of the problem.

Now we have abilities in the few kids who are left that aren't catalogued. Like trees, they have all kinds of branches.

This shitty Null is also a Drainer. Our government won't give them a name but us leftovers will.

What Thompson is doing is illegal. His father is also the head of the sanctions. He pulls every undead legislation he can.

The prick.

Jade plucks my sleeve and I take my free hand and cup the back of her head. "Is she okay, Caleb?" She worries at her lip with her teeth.

Gramps says, "She's okay, Caleb-just shook up."

A breath whistles out of me.

"Okay. So here's the $64,000,000,000 question: where are she and Pax?"

Silence.

I hear Gramps do a swipe of his face with his palm. Deep exhale.

"Should've been home 'bout now, son."

Jade shakes her head. "They're not," she whispers at my side.

"They're not, Gramps."

I don't ask why my zombie, Clyde happened to be corpse-on-the-spot for Deegan. I don't ask why her Null guard was absent. I don't ask any of that.

Instead I ask, "Gramps..."

"I'll find her."

"And Pax?"

"You don't worry about him. He needs to figure out his own way about Ali, son...."

Guest Post:

Zombie Romance; Death-Style

Did you read that title?

No one could love a zombie.

Well, I do. And so do a bunch of other peeps, apparently. Zombie fiction isn't all post-apocalyptic, disease carrying, mindless brain eaters. (Some of my zombies do get distracted by a tidy meal of brains. But that's for another guest post.)

As I write this, FOR the LOVE of DEATH is getting ready to blow up on Amazon for all the hordes of readers to descend and devour.

I'm all for that.

Is the Death Series about zombie love? Oh yes. But it's a bunch of other things too. It's dystopian. Dark fantasy ( a soft sort of horror, but horror nonetheless). Death is also suspenseful, witty and coming-of-age. My main demographic of readers is females ages 25-34. After that? It's post-60. Isn't that something? I never thought a teen male-POV would interest anyone except... you got it: a teen male-POV. Then Death got its teeth in the readers. Guys discovered it, middle-aged women (I'm one of those so no diss there, girls), teens and older people. Yes, I said elderly. They read and everything. (That's tongue in cheek, lest I get hate mail.)

What makes Death different? For starters, it's male POV. And there's just not much lit out there that is. There's even less from a teen boy's POV. I didn't know any better. I have four sons who complained endlessly about all the "drivel" of chicks who thought they could write like a guy thought.

So this chick thought: why not? It's certainly harder to speak from a teen girl's POV as there aren't any of them galloping around the house. I went for it, and the rest is history.

I thought I'd "grow" the teens through high school and be done at book six. But they kept talking, and readers kept asking for Death (I love how that sounds). Now they're all grown up with some kids of their own. It's a futuristic setting so I've taken liberties with some of the characters as you'll see if you begin the Death odyssey. I know it's a little weird, but my fave character is the MC's grandpa, "Gramps." You ever meet anyone that knows who they are to the marrow? And they're simply indifferent to change or compromise? Filter-less? Yes, that's Mac O'Brien. And I simply can't seem to "retire" him. I also adore the MC zombie, Clyde. He died in a post-depression America and has not let his principles slide. He and Mac get along great.

I threw romance in Death #7, parallel earths, horror, action, comedic dialog, agony, drama and suspense. The pace is fierce (I guess I'm not terrific at slow pacing), and some resolution takes place, along with questions.

Does Deegan's zombie survive? Will Paxton save his Gram? Is Brad Thompson and his dad going to corrupt another earth through Zombie slaving? It's a new earth with the same problems. Where there's power, there is also greed. I had a terrific time writing Death. So much so, I'm already devising a Death 8. Since Death 7 is a spin-off; a case of the "stales" shall not be had.

Book one, Death Whispers, is currently in audio production and I have to say, it was in the top ten surreal experiences of my life to listen to my own words. What I really got out of listening is how mature DW is in some respects. It captures the changes teens experience on the chasm of near-adulthood. Death began as a YA crossover series and is now firmly in the new adult/adult genre. Fans of dystopian, hard sci-fi, paranormal romance, fantasy and action with snappy dialog should dig death.

If you're looking for a unique narrative, jam-packed with action and fast pacing, Death just might be for you. Especially for if you have a crush on zombies....

Review: Torrent (Condemned #1) By Gemma James @CJMichaels80 @DarkWorldBooks

Torrent
Condemned #1
By Gemma James

Blurb-

I've been obsessed with Rafe Mason since I was thirteen. The twisted part of this story is that I still want him, even now.

Now that he's holding me captive on an island.

Rafe has his reasons for doing what he's doing, and if I'm honest, I can't blame him. I'm the girl who sent him to prison for a heinous crime he didn't commit.

But now he's free and the tables have turned…now he's the one driven by obsession.

TORRENT is a new adult dark romance with disturbing themes and explicit content that includes sexual situations and violence. Intended for adult readers 18+ only. Part one of the CONDEMNED series. This is not a stand-alone read.

 photo bnicon.png photo ibooks.png photo kobo-icon1.png

My Review-

I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Alex sent an innocent man to prison eight years ago for a very violent crime that he did not commit. Alex has had a crush on this man since she was thirteen years old. Now this man is out and he is coming for her. This man Rafe intends on making Alex tell him why she lied and sent him to prison. He also has plans to make her pay for what she did while at the same time take eight years of her life away from her.

Alex has always felt guilty and bad for what she did to him but Alex has secrets of her own. She has been through a lot of pain too. Alex's adopted/step-brother has always been jealous of her and any other man. He has done some awful things to Alex and she is afraid of him and what he would do to her if she told anyone how bad he is to her.

When Alex finds Rafe's note saying he is coming for her she packs her bags and is on her way out the door no longer caring or worrying what her "brother" will do to her for leaving when Rafe shows up and takes her away. Rafe takes her to an island where no one will find them and keeps Alex locked up like a prisoner. For some reason Alex has kept what her "brother" did to her a secret from the whole world, not wanting anyone to know because she is ashamed of what he did to her. She has kept her secret for so long that she can't tell Rafe the truth as to why she sent him to prison. She feels guilty and honestly believes that she deserves whatever he decides is justifiable punishment. She will endure and except all and any pain that he gives her.

I felt bad for both Alex and Rafe with all the pain they had endured through the years and neither one of them having any control over it. Rafe had no control because he was behind bars and Alex had no control because she was afraid of what her "brother" would do. If she hadn't did what he told her to do would he have killed her?

Torrent is filled with dark violent and mind twisting evil. Not all of the people were evil just some of the things they did were. In Torrent hearts are broken and lives are destroyed. Parts of lives are taken away, never to be returned. If you like dark, violent, painful erotic books then Torrent is the book for you.

Review: Minstrel's Serenade By Aubrie Dionne @AuthorAubrie @GHBTours

 photo MinstrelsSerenadeReviewBannnerSeptember012014.jpg

Minstrel's Serenade
By- Aubrie Dionne
Genre- Fantasy/Romance
Expected Publication Date- July 21, 2014
Published By- Lyrical/Kensington

He's sworn to protect her, but can he save her from himself?

Danika Rubystone has hated the minstrels ever since her mother ran away with one. As Princess, she's duty bound to marry Valorian, a minstrel from the House of Song. But problems in the kingdom are mounting. With her father dead she's the sole heir to an imperiled throne, and wyverns attack Ebonvale's southern shores. But after Danika finds a lone survivor of a wyvern's attack who holds the key to protecting the kingdom and she finally meets the enchantingly sly Valorian, everything changes.

As Ebonvale's Royal Guard sails with the minstrels to smite the uprising of wyverns, Danika dances a line between sticking by duty like her father, or following her wild heart like her mother.

My Review-
I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Ebonvale is being attacked by Wyverns and it is up to Princess Danika to save her kingdom. She must find a way to defeat the Wyverns. With the help of her chief of arms of her royal army, Bron they set out on a quest to find the answers they are looking for. On their journey they meet a little boy, Nip. He is the lone survivor of his village. He lost his family and everyone he knew in an attack by the Wyverns. But this little boy Nip knows the secret to defeating the Wyverns. He has heard his father talk of the secret for many years.

After they gather everything they need to hopefully defeat the Wyverns Danika, Bron with their royal army and Valorian with his army of minstrels without Nip (who is not too happy about this but has no choice in the matter because the adults as spoken) is safely left behind at Ebonvale start out on their quest to kill the Wyverns before they kill them and hundreds more. They have a long road ahead of them to travel to find the Wyverns and kill them. They have decided that it would be best if they went to the Wyverns instead of waiting for them to come and attack their kingdoms. If they attack the Wyverns on their own turf instead of Ebonvale or the House of Song they will save a lot more lives.

Danika is torn between her heart and her duty to the people of Ebonvale. As the princess she is duty bound to marry the minstrel to join together the House of Song and Ebonvale. But Danika's heart lies elsewhere; her heart belongs to her chief of arms and bodyguard Bron. Bron would give his life to keep the princess safe even if it means he would have to see her with another man day in and day out. Bron not only has a duty to protect the princess he also has a duty to protect the people of Ebonvale as well. Bron doesn't think that he is worthy of the princess and tries to keep his feelings a secret from the princess and everyone else too. But neither one of them is very good at hiding their feelings from everyone. Oh they can fool each other or at least keep the other one wondering. So who will the princess choose to spend the rest of her life with? Will it be her body guard Bron or will it be the minstrel from the House of Song? Will she follow her heart or will she follow her head? Will she choose the one person that will make her happy or will she choose what will make Ebonvale stronger?

I have enjoyed and loved everything by Aubrie Dionne that I have read and the Minstrel's Serenade ranks right up there at the top with her other books that I have read. I have read almost everything she has written. If I have not then that is my quest to read everything she has written. With Aubrie Dionne's work who needs to read the summary? Not me. Thanks Aubrie for being such a great author and artist.

I would like to share a quote with you from Minstrel's Serenade that really touched me and that I truly love and believe. Before I share the quote I would like to say that I am not much of a music person. What I mean is that although I do like music and I like different kinds of music like country, classic rock, hard rock, alternative rock and some heavy metal and rap. I love school bands. Hearing the bands play at half-time was or is my favorite time at a football game. And now for the quote:
“Music is a universal language understood by all.”
“Everyone cares for music, even a newborn baby or an elder too old to remember anything else. The trick is finding the right chords to strike to find their innermost desires and open their heart.

Minstrel's Serenade is for anyone who loves mystery, fantasy, music and adventure with a little romance thrown in or anyone who just loves Aubrie Dionne's wonderful writing.

Guest Post

Ten Things I've Learned Since I Started Writing: Kira Adams

1. Beta readers are invaluable. One of the first things I did when I decided I wanted to write more seriously was join the site, Goodreads. There are hundreds of people on there who are interested in beta reading, and they all do it out of the kindness of their heart-asking for no monetary compensation. Each and every one of my books went through multiple rounds of beta readers who helped me address problems with the plot, flow, characterization, and even sometimes, spelling and grammar. I honestly believe if it were not for Goodreads and the beta readers help, I wouldn't be the author I am today.

2. Where is the rush? I hastily made the decision to publish my first book after being fed up with my life in general-I would not recommend this. I missed minor formatting errors and settled for the story as it was even though I had inner doubts about it. Although thousands of readers were happy with the version that was published, I have already edited it once and will probably revise and update the published copies once more if I decide to delve back into the story. I also missed the opportunity to promote at all. Even though I have found book bloggers (and thank God for them), it is still very hard work. I would recommend taking your time to publish your novel.

This is the format I would follow if you are interested in self-publishing: Write the story, edit the story, have the story beta read, put the story away for a little bit of time to breathe while you begin something new, edit the story again, have it beta read one more time, edit it for the final time, format it for e-books and paperbacks, promote, promote, promote, publish.

3. Join online writing communities such as Wattpad, Figment, Authonomy, Scribophile, etc. Joining a site like Wattpad has been life-changing for me. It is a website that merges readers and aspiring writers with published authors and even agents sometimes. You are able to post your stories chapter by chapter and others have the opportunity to read, comment, and vote on your works as well as follow your profile and add your books to their libraries. There are also forums you can join that give advice on the ins and outs of the industry. A majority of the website is the younger generation, tweens and teens, however Wattpad is filled with aspiring writers and published authors of all backgrounds.

I joined the site in September 2013, and since then I have 645 followers, over 7000 votes, and upwards of 35,000 reads on some of my stories. Even though I have not and will not ever receive any monetary compensation from having my stories on Wattpad, I will be a lifer. I cannot tell you how much of a community it is and how supportive my followers have been for me as well as advice I've been given on improving my novels; I cannot say enough great things about Wattpad. I think I should be their mascot!

4. Your friends and family will come around. Don't be offended if your friends and family don't read your stories right away or even bother to buy them when they are released. Things to keep in mind, everyone has their own life and are busy living it-they will support you when they see the hard work. Also, factor in what genre you are writing in because not everyone will be interested in Young Adult or New Adult Romances.

5. If you have the opportunity to have a critiquing partner who will swap a few chapters at a time, TAKE IT. While beta readers can be helpful to no end, a critiquing partner can and will become passionate about your work; they will push you to write new chapters and even though they won't go easy on you just because you've built a rapport, they will support you to no end.

6. Go with the flow. As much as I love outlines and have used them plenty of times in the past, I have always been a firm believer in writing what you feel is right in the moment. My stories with the biggest recognition have not been planned out, I believe that's what kept the intensity building from start to finish. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying there is anything wrong with outlines, I am just saying if your gut is telling you to write something, don't feel confined to your outline.

7. The ups and downs of Print-on-Demand. When I published my first two novels, I chose the website Createspace to help with the paperback copies I would be needing. I love how self-sufficient their website makes you feel and how quickly they can approve everything for publishing (within 24-48 hours). Pros: Createspace is very easy to use and navigate. Cons: The royalties are about 30% your book price, which in the grand scheme of things isn't much.

8. You do not have to pay a fortune for a cover that could compete in the traditional publishing world, trust me. One of the best decisions I ever made was asking a peer on Wattpad to make my covers professionally for me; little did I know, she actually wanted to be a cover designer! I approached her and we worked out a 6-book deal for a VERY affordable price. She not only works with me to make sure I am satisfied in full, but she has a ridiculously fast turnaround. Sometimes it's as quick as 24-hours. Her name is Emmy Logan and she is the creator of Cover Me Designs, do yourself a favor and check out some of her creations-you won't regret it.

9. Find Book Bloggers who review self-published titles. Reach out but be respectful, some of them may agree to review your book even though it doesn't interest them. Be content and satisfied with each one that that takes the time. They are essentially who is going to help create buzz and build an audience for upcoming titles.

10. If you do not want to deal with the hassle of formatting the eBook-DON'T. I'm not going to release her name in fear she may get too booked up for me to use her on future projects; but, I found a decent eBook formatter who gets it ready for both platforms, Epub and Mobi within a week or two for $20. Twenty dollars is nothing compared to the headaches and hours you'll spend trying to get everything right.
