(Bound #2)
Publication date: March 19th 2015
Genres: New Adult, Paranormal

Synopsis:

Aidan Montgomery hadn’t been prepared for Amelia Bradbury to walk in and then out of his life. He also hadn’t expected to find the powerful magic hidden deep within him for the last nineteen years, but he’s embracing it — finding more control and more answers every day. Now, with the help of Amelia’s best friend, Bethany, Aidan is on a quest to understand his destiny and find Amelia.

Amelia decided to stand by her duty, which meant walking away from her first chance at love. Trapped in Cresthaven at the Queen’s mercy, she spends her days with Micah — an ally she still holds at arm’s length — struggling to manage her heartbreak while keeping her mind focused on the task at hand. As she continues to unlock the secrets of the Keeper power, Queen Julia’s true motives reveal themselves, forcing Amelia to decide, yet again, how much she’s willing to sacrifice.

Will Aidan get to Amelia before it’s too late, or will the very power that sustains them keep them apart?

Blog Post:

It’s always fun to talk about a second book, but we never want to spoil anything about the first one for you, so today, we have a special treat from Stormy Smith, author of the Bound Series. Right now, BOTH Bound by Duty and Bound by Spells are on sale for just 99 cents each on Amazon (US and UK).

To set this up, the Bound Series is a coming of age story. A clean, new adult, urban fantasy that has wracked up 190 5-star reviews between both books. Bound by Duty is the story from Amelia, our main character, and Bound by Spells alternates between Amelia and Aidan.

Right now, Bound by Duty is nominated for “Best Book Hangover” in the UtopYA 2015 awards and Bound by Spells was endorsed by USA Today’s Happy Ever After blog as “paranormal gold.”

Our treat, however, is an alternate POV scene from the swoon-worthy Aidan, our main man in the Bound series. This scene happens near the beginning of Bound by Duty and gives you a glimpse into what’s to come without spoiling anything. Consider it a teaser of the man you’ll get more from in Bound by Spells!

 Excerpt:

Bound by Duty – from Aidan

What in the hell am I doing here? The thought raced through my head for the hundredth time. I scrubbed both hands over my face and back through my hair, yanking on it a little and trying to reason with myself.

You’re going to freak her out.

She doesn’t even know you.

‘Oh, hi, Amelia. I know you don’t know me but I’ve been watching you the last few weeks and I think we’d get along great. No, I’m not a creeper. Trust me.’

I groaned and dropped my head down. I was sitting under some kind of beach pergola on a picnic table that had seen better days. If I even took a deep breath it might crumple under me. I was hiding and I knew it. It’s bad enough I heard Amelia and her friend talking about this party and then psyched myself into showing up, but now I have totally chickened out. I wasn’t interested in the party or the drunk chicks upstairs. Just her.

I don’t normally get worked up like this but she has me all turned around. I’d been watching Amelia Bradbury since the first day of class. I was the charmer. I knew from years of experience with foster families how to make sure people liked me, but she never even gave me a chance. She wanted to hide and never once even looked my way. I could see it in the way her eyes darted all over the room without making eye contact with anyone. And in the way she wore her hair down, trying to hide behind the long, dark strands. She sat in the back, forcing me to the outer edges of the room so that I could keep watching without making it obvious. When she got up she would often run into things, but never people, clutching her backpack before hustling to the next place.

The first time I saw her relax was by accident. I was in the commons eating and suddenly, there she was. Her eyes lit up and her posture straightened. She yanked the band from her wrist and flipped her head down, coming back up with it in a ponytail. It was the first time I’d been able to truly see her and I was captivated. Her eyes couldn’t decide what color they wanted to be and floated between brown and green. Some people would call it hazel but they didn’t mix so much as shift as the light hit them. She was thin but curved. I wanted to run my hands from her shoulders to her hips just to feel the dip and flare. I turned, anxiety flooding my system, and found the source of her joy…another girl. I let go of a breath I hadn’t known I was holding and couldn’t stop the laugh the erupted from my chest. Amelia strode up, gave the blond a hug, and they immediately started talking. Then the blond spoke and Amelia laughed. It was music to my deaf ears and something inside me came alive. I wanted to be the one to do that. I wanted to make her laugh. For the first time in my life I was jealous of a girl.

I was ready to call it. Being here on this picnic bench was ridiculous and there was no way I was going to have the balls to walk up to her now. I had completely psyched myself out of having any kind of shot at this. I was ready to get up and head for my car when I heard someone bouncing down the stairs. I worried first that something was wrong. Their feet pattered down so quickly I thought they might be running. I stayed in my spot in the shadows, but tensed my body in case I had to move quickly. Lately I had had way too much excess energy and I’d been spending a lot of time in the gym. I could do some damage if it came down to it. The last thing I expected was to see shoes flipping off and long legs soaring through the air as Amelia leapt from the last step and landed softly out into the sand. For just a moment she was suspended mid-air and I could have sworn she was flying. When she hit the beach she didn’t miss a beat, her feet moving her swiftly toward the water.

Her body was long and lean. A ballerina but with curves. She was so focused on the water that it wasn’t until she was ankle deep and had dropped her head back, a small satisfied smile pulling at her lips, that she realized she wasn’t alone. I had barely moved, a low groan coming from the bench underneath me. Her whole body stiffened in what I assumed was fear. I felt like an intruder. This was going to be a great way for us to meet, surely. But, you shouldn’t blow opportunities when they come. Or so said my last caseworker before I turned eighteen and had been accepted into Brighton’s community college. No sense in turning back now.

“So, you’re hiding from them, too, huh?” I was going for charming. Like I had some kind of game. But the words felt like peanut butter in my mouth and I was glad she couldn’t see my reddened face from where she was standing. Amelia slowly turned toward me, her voice small as she squinted and tried to see me better. “Do I know you?”

I felt like even more of a tool. She had no idea who I was. She stared my way for a few more seconds and then whipped around, facing back out into the water. I watched her chest moving quickly, her breaths coming too fast. I slowly started to move toward her, worried she might be getting a little too freaked out and wanting to reassure her that I wasn’t actually a sociopath.

“You don’t have anything to worry about,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady but soft. She turned to face me slowly and the full moon sliced its light just perfectly to illuminate me but keep her face mostly shadowed. She was close enough that I could see her eyes widen and roam from my nose to my knees, without ever meeting my own. I stood up a little taller and couldn’t stop the smirk as I realized I might have some of the same effect on her that she had on me. She raked her gaze up and down and it wasn’t until I tried to get her attention that her eyes finally snapped back to mine.

I couldn’t help but laugh as I waved a hand in front of her face and said, “Hello?” Then the Amelia I knew came back in a mad rush. She fumbled over her words, looking anywhere but at me. She tugged at the ends of her hair and a tried to walk away, but I couldn’t let her. I wasn’t ready to let her go yet and I needed to know her. I couldn’t stop myself from reaching out and taking her arm. It was our first contact and I don’t know what I had expected, but it wasn’t heat blooming under my fingertips or her heartbeat inside my head. In milliseconds of my skin on hers she was inside me, and I knew I’d never get her out.

“Wait. Just wait.” More quiet, controlled words. I couldn’t let her leave. I had to keep her there. I had to keep touching her. “I’ve seen you before. You’re Amelia, right?” Normal, Aidan. Act normal.

“Yeah,” she whispered. I had forced her to look at me and I would swear to any judge that we wore the same expression. She felt something. I knew she did.

“We have a couple classes together, but you always sit in the back and never say anything.” Dammit. So suave. So charming. You’re an idiot, Montgomery

I was instantly ashamed. I watched her reaction and I knew it too well. She squeezed her eyes shut and her lips smashed together, holding in the pain of not fitting in. I might be a charmer now, but I’d been sent away by enough families to know what I had just done.

“Oh, that was dumb. I’m sorry. Anyway, I’m Aidan. Aidan Montgomery.” I took advantage of the opportunity to trail my fingertips from her bicep down to her wrist and then folded her hand into mine, shaking it softly. I felt fire the whole way and judging by the widening of her eyes and the swift intake of breath, so did she. For a second, she gripped my hand, but as our eyes connected again and I couldn’t stop my grin, she dropped it and without a word took off running. I couldn’t move, my hand still in front of me and my jaw hanging open, as I watched her bound up the stairs and disappear. I dropped onto the hard-packed sand and didn’t bother to move as the tide rose and the salty water surrounded me.

Well, that couldn’t have gone better.

Review: The Last Book Ever Written by Jonah Kruvant @JonahK @GoddessFish #Giveaway

The Last Book Ever Written
by Jonah Kruvant

BLURB:

In a futuristic American society where all citizens have computerized chips in their brains and insert needles into their veins to enter a virtual reality, Victor Vale leads a fairly typical life.  He is an officer of the law with greater ambitions, a family man, and a dutiful citizen of the Nation.  Yet when The Chief assigns him a case to go undercover and expose a community of illegal “creators,” Victor finds himself strangely compelled to creative writing.  For the first time, he starts to question the world around him, and becomes involved in a web of lies, uncertain of whom to trust, and unable to distinguish between virtualism and reality.  As he searches for answers, Victor slowly begins to unravel hidden truths about the world, and even uncovers an astonishing secret from his own past.

In order to prove to the “creators” that he is genuine, Victor writes a manuscript, at great risk to his wife and son.  When books are banned and ultimately destroyed, Victor realizes that his book alone has survived.  Only then does the reader come to a startling realization in a unique narrative twist.

EXCERPT:

Not long after the Cleansing Act, I was promoted to Detective. I was thirty-four. I had a wife and child to support. A career to pursue. My son wanted things, my wife wanted things; hell, I wanted things. I had worked on the force for thirteen years and it was time I got my detective badge.

That was all I could see back then. I didn’t care about creators.

Then I was assigned to the case. But even before I stepped into the Chief’s office, events began taking shape that marked both the beginning and the end of a new chapter in my life. It was on my way to the police station, wading through the unbearable stench of the dirty human flesh of the Slums, that I began to question things, what I thought I knew about the world … and about myself.

So this is where I start my story. This is where I begin my book.

That day, for whatever reason, I felt conscious of my surroundings. The beggars were pushing each other out of the way to get under awnings and balconies of restaurants and apartments as it started to rain. The restaurants were filled with shattered glass, moldy kitchens. The strongest beggars lived in cramped apartments with cockroaches and termites. The ones that couldn’t find shelter that morning just lay there, shivering from the cold. Some would let raindrops fall from the sky into their open mouths. Two naïve children were chasing each other around bodies and
giggling, cleaning dirt out of each other’s hair. The bright lights of the skyscrapers, the swiftness of the skytrain, the convenience of the airpath—all a beggar had to do was look up and he would find himself in a fantastical world of dreams.

MY REVIEW:

I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Victor Vale is a detective in a futuristic society where it is against the law to be a creator of any kind. The world Victor lives in is divided into several different classes. Victor himself hit it lucky by marrying into the upperclass. His wife is a lawyer and is very rich because her father was a famous lawyer. Victor's world could very easily be our future. In our world most of us are addicted to smartphones, computers, iPads, tablets, kindles ect.... Where we have all of these different devices Victor only has a tiny chip in his body that can do way more than all of our devices put together. All of this technology is bringing Victor's world down.

In Victor's world it is against the law to write, draw, paint or do anything that is creative. If anyone is caught doing anything creative then they will be in real big trouble. More trouble than you can image. But just about everyone knows that there is a secret society where people that are creative go to meet and do what it is they love to do whether it be writing, painting or making a sculpture or whatever. They know it is dangerous but they still go because doing these things comes from deep inside of them and they can't keep it in they have to let out or go crazy.

Victor's boss sends him undercover to this secret society to infiltrate their compound and catch all of the creators and put a stop to what they are doing. Victor is different than most of the upperclassmen. Most of the upperclass only care about themselves and making their selves richer and richer no matter what it cost them or who it hurts. But Victor is not like this and he doesn't know why he is different he just knows that he is. Victor cares about the people that doesn't have as much as he does and always wants to help them if he can. When Victor goes undercover in this secret society he finds that he is more like the people there than he is with the people in his own world.

I really loved the world that the author has created in The Last Book Ever Written. It will make you stop and think about where our own future made be headed if we don't stop and take notice to what we are doing with our lives. We need to stop spending so much time with all of our gadgets and spend more time without families before it is too late and we are living in a controlled society like Victor's. I can't wait to read more from this author and I would like to read more about Victor and his world. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good dystopian/si-fi/futuristic books. It has so many twist in it that you won't know where you are going to come out next. You will be flipping the pages so fast that you will think that you are a robot. So go grab your copy today!

EXCERPT:

“I’m not going to have sex with him,” said Anastasia.

“With who?” said Beth.

“With him,” Anastasia repeated.

“Who him?” asked Mare.

“Him, John,” Anastasia said.

“John?” Mare bit her lip, confused.

Beth sighed. “Who’s John, Anastasia?”

“John is what the men who have sex with prostitutes are called.”

“What? All of them?” Mare asked.

Anastasia nodded.

“No,” Beth said. “They are not all named John. Not only men named John have sex with whores.”

“Language!” said Anastasia.

Beth groaned. “That’s quite enough, Anastasia. If we’re going to do this you’ll have to get far less prudish about many things. Language is the least of them.”

“I’m not going to do this,” Anastasia said. “I already told you. I’m not going to have sex with him.”

“Who?” Mare asked again.

“Anyone!” Anastasia said.

“You’re not going to have sex with anyone?” asked Beth. Her voice sounded mocking. “Ever?”

“Maybe,” said Anastasia, “Maybe not, but I’m certainly not going to have sex with anyone in this century. Do you have any idea how filthy they are?”

Beth laughed. “No filthier than you are,” she said.

Mare grimaced. “She has a point, Anastasia.”

“I know,” said Anastasia, looking down at herself. She had a strong desire to pinch her nose. She was dirty, absolutely covered in dust. To see it, to feel it on her skin, made her cringe. She hated, HATED, being dirty, but here she was dressed in a ridiculous gold-rush era dress that somehow collected every speck of soil, decay, and body odor around and on her.

AUTHOR BIO:

S.E. Burr wrote Time Traveling Hookers over the course of a weekend at a Tom Bird writing retreat in Santa Fe, NM. It is based on a dream she had a few weeks prior to the retreat, but she did no advanced planning of the plot. She was very surprised to discover that the story was a romance, as she did not often read romances, let alone write them. She quite enjoyed the experience and intends to write more romances in the future, but cautions that what she intends to write and what she actually writes can be two very different things.

She is the author of the young adult novel, Goblin Fruit, inspired by the poem “Goblin Market” by Christina Rossetti.  The sequel, Goblin Girl, is coming soon. It was inspired by her desire to find out more of the story.

A nearly lifelong resident of rural New Mexico, S.E. Burr loves the desert, her family, and her cat.

Blog Tour: Madman Across the Water By Caroline Angel @ucat42 @GHBTours

Madman Across the Water
By- Caroline Angel
Genre- Horror

For generations one family has been haunted by something... something that stalks. It sees and listens, it watches and follows. In the shadows and mist it waits, to take you, to hurt you, perhaps to kill you. And if it doesn't kill you, you'll wish it did.

A creepy, suspenseful saga of family, horror, and mystery, this is one story sure to leave you frightened of the woods at night, fog, and all things tall and slender.

An Interview with Caroline Angel-

What inspired you to write MADMAN ACROSS THE WATER?

I had been writing short stories, and was always asking people 'what gives you nightmares, or what scares you the most? My nephew told me about The Slenderman and I was intrigued. Also many (many many) years ago I had been obsessed with the Elton John song Madman Across the Water, and had always intended to write a story based on that song. Once I married the two together the story took on a life of its own.

When or at what age did you know you wanted to be a writer?

I honestly don't remember. I always had a very active imagination and used to run little stories in my head. They made their way onto paper soon enough, and I have stories that i write when I was about give still folded up in my diary.

What is the earliest age you remember reading your first book?

When I started school. It was Black Beauty. My parents were in a religious cult and I didn't have access to books (other than their cult ones, or the Bible) until then. The next book was a Star Trek novel.

What genre of books do you enjoy reading?

Horror, Science Fiction, Adventure, mainly

What is your favorite book?

Lordy, I don't know! I like so many. Lord Of The Rings, The Talisman - I could go on forever.

You know I think we all have a favorite author. Who is your favorite author and why?

I really don't have one. Truthfully. My likes jump all over the place and change depending on the mood I am in or what I am reading at the time.

If you could travel back in time here on earth to any place or time. Where would you go and why?

I'd go back to when i was maybe 12 or so, and explain that it's okay to dream, it's okay to stay at school (cult would not allow this) and to move out of home. Of course, I'd tell myself to keep writing!

When writing a book do you find that writing comes easy for you or is it a difficult task?

Usually it just flows, I almost zone out and the words just appear. Lately I've been having a difficult time at work and this has made the words slow down, stop, even, so I guess my mood affects my writing a great deal

Do you have any little fuzzy friends? Like a dog or a cat? Or any pets?

Four horses, eight dogs, three cats, two chickens and four peafowl I live on a farm

What is your "to die for", favorite food/foods to eat?

CHOCOLATE CAKE

Do you have any advice for anyone that would like to be an author?

Write! I know that's what everyone says, but it's true. Get those words out of you. You'll never know what coulda been if you don't try

About the Author-
Caroline wants to live in a world where it's always acceptable to bring your dog with you, wherever you go.

As an author she's had the most read stories on several sites, won competitions and challenges with her short stories and web based novels.

When she's not selling cable TV, you can find her riding one of her horses, walking her dogs, or sitting in the local café drinking copious amounts of hot beverages and writing up a storm.

Her first book, a creepy horror novel titled "Madman Across The Water" hits shelves May 2015.
